The Republicans got what they deserved.. a thorough thumping by a better organized, charismatic, youthful and inspirational candidate. I say this as a lifelong Republican and McCain voter. Offering up a "Bob Dole redux" standard bearer and an extremely questionable vice presidential running mate was an easy recipe for electoral disaster. George Bush had poisoned the well for sure. But he was aided and abetted by an appalingly biased press that fell in lockstep with the Democrat Party. That, and Bush's inability to even attempt to defend himself or his policies disheartened the Republican Party. I wish President-elect Obama well. His success is important to all Americans. I hope that the Republican Party will look in the mirror and re-evalute themselves. It must go back to the basic values and philosophy that served us well. We need a strong two party system to keep an eye on each other and maintain some balance in our national policy.

The election is now over, but the Democrats are continuing to "rub it in." This article was obviously written by a Democrat.

I want everybody to remember the day when Obama got elected as our 44th President of the U.S. Also I want everybody remember when Dr. King march from my hometown, which is, Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama.

If the GOP is to come back they must break with Wall Street and big business. Business has tried to turn the employee class in this country into peasants by flooding the labor market with illegals and visa abusers. They have shipped millions of jobs overseas through a perversion of free trade that allows Asian countries to rig currencies and prevent the natural balancing of trade deficits. Big business protected this perversion because they did not want currency fluctuations to wipe out their profit margins. This is not free trade, but crony special interest capitalism.

These two groups give more money to Democrats and cost the Republicans millions of votes. Cultural and economic populism will work. It is time for a change.

yes indeed, some checks and balances are needed...but the problem with the dems is that they tend to throw the baby out with the bath water, i.e. the capitalist baby out with the socialist bath water

I agree with the article that McCains biggest problem was picking Palin. She was unqualified and seem to be more concern about her celebrity status and let's face it , not bright! Amazing how she got that far but if Alaska re-elected a covicted criminal then that makes sense how she got to be Governor. I wish Palin would just disappear into the mountains of Alaska but I think she got the feel of being in the limelight and thirst for the attn. Let's face it, Americans make anyone a star! She needs to concentrate on her home life and empowering her brain and maybe come back into the limelight. McCain should have also stayed away from the negative campaigns unless they were factual like the one Obama did on him voted with Bush 90% of the time. Poor McCain, he seems like a nice person and his speech proved that last night. I am sure Palin was force upon him. I hope no one ever makes that mistake again. It's like when you make an ugly duckling a star and they just get caught up in the moment. She really needs to just go home and stay there.

Are you people on drugs? How can that be a serious question: worst ever? He kept it close in a year when the GOP should have lost by >10%. Is your memory too short to remember Bob Dole or John Kerry?

There are still plenty of the 'hackable' voting machines being used, time to put an end to them once and for all.

What went wrong with McCain's campaign? You have to ask. I believe the news meida had a lot to do with it and some crazy Americans that still have thier head in the sand. Let us Republicans hear from you when you get all that Obama promised. I can't wait to get the same insurance and benifts that congress gets. Don't want to miss it so post early.

The young people voted for change. The problem is as I've discussed with many young people, they truly think change means getting something for nothing. We can all laugh when they find out they will get absolutely nothing unless they stop working and become another generation of welfare recipiants. Those that study and work hard will end up with short paychecks and thoughts that someone is watching TV all day off of the taxes deducted from their salary each week. I hope they all get what they voted for - in spades!

like it or not he is going to be our next president and we as a nation will have to deal with it it's to late now to be crying over it. The best thing we can do now is pray for him that he will guide us in the right direction

          • Posted By: kcocinero @ 11/05/2008 3:15:15 PM

I agree completely. No one knows for sure where Obama is going to lead this nation. I voted for him because I feel like it is time for a change in the direction this country is moving. That being said I dont think that the country would come crashing down if John Mcain won the election. Now is the time for us all to move forward with hope. This is what is wrong with the 2 party system. It is always the other party's fault no matter what the issue is. Bush could have led us to the best economic time in history and there would still be those who said he was a terrible president simply because he is a republican. To all you people who are saying that this country is doomed now that Obama has been elected, shame on you! Give the man a chance. I am tired of the fear mongering and the all out ignorance. If we cant move forward, together as a country then if things do go bad we have only ourselves to blame. The election is over. One side won and one side lost but it is imperative that we put our differences aside and move together as a country.

Hey Desertbutterfly if you really want an answer to your question of how could a person born in Kenya become President of the United States of America, you will probably be able to ask him yourself in person when he is sworn in on January 2009 as the President of the United States of America.

No one yelled Kill him at a Palin rally. Secret service investigated and it was never proven.

Yeah, milions of people who heard it were temporarily delusional.

  • Posted By: texnewmex @ 11/05/2008 2:12:00 PM

Here's why McCain didn't win the Presidency. 1) Obama had countless millions of dollars in campaign funds to help him buy his way into the White House and as yet, no one has suggested hiring an independent forensic accountant to find out where the money came from, i.e. from those in this country and in foreign countries., 2) McCain had only honor and courage in his background, Obama had Wright, Rezko, Ayers and countless other left wing radicals in his closet which the liberal media helped him hide throughout the campaign, 3) Bottom line is that this WAS a race issue because 95% of the black population chose to vote for him because he was black. Many of these black voters didn't even know what his platform was and didn't care, they just wanted a black man in a White House, 4) Obama had ACORN in his back pocket and those that were involved with that unscrupulous group did their very best to ensure that the voter registration process was fraudulent and it gave them a platform to tell lies to the illiterate blacks about McCain.

There was no way McCain could win this campaign because Obama and his band of thieves didn't play fair and as the almost half of the American population who voted for him know, McCain is a man of honor who wouldn't stoop to the underhanded tactics the Obama campaign used. Obama and the Democratic Congress and Senate better watch their steps because there are huge numbers of us out here that will be sure you don't try and mess with our freedoms and liberties in this country. And if they don't think we'll take to the streets and take back our country, then they are dead wrong.

to: texnewmex In your rambling you mention point #2 that McCain had nothing but honor and courage, I guess you don't want to mention that he had a hand in the Keating 5 scandal? Of course not because you would have to add thief and liar to his resume, and then you would not be able to blast President Obama with the same ridiculous claims that your ex-presidential hopeful used. So Senator McCain helped pressure regulators from doing their job. So according to you Bravery and courage simply cancel out the fact that McCain took park in a large public scandal. Where as you folks continue to spout disinformation about President Obama.

You claim that President Obama has been linked with Ayers. He served on an educational board with Ayers. I am sure that if Ayers has not changed his ways and was still this blatant threat to the USA he would have been locked up by now, and that the school board would not have allowed him to be on it.

You complain that no one has looked into where President Obamas campaign money came from. Well I hate to say this but you republicans will no doubt have someone start an investigation about this. It will be just like when you republicans had the Clintons investigated for the ???White Water??? issue. They spent millions of tax payer dollars searching everywhere for some dirt on them. Even though they were found innocent of the any wrong doing in the White Water??? issue, you Republicans still dug and dug and dug for any scrap of dirt you could find. Only to have the famous ???White House blow job??? come up for the only thing you could pin on them. I am sure if you searched into anybodies past you can find something, no matter how trivial to try and smear them with.

I have to say I hope President Obama has Bush, Chaney and all of dubya???s cronies investigated. They gave out no bid contracts to Halliburton several times when that is strictly against policy. There is no telling what other activities they had had their dirty hands into. Not to mention the fact they LIED about every reason they gave for us to attack Iraq. They also lied about leaking information to the press in the Valerie Plaime incident. The investigators traced the leak back to the White House and were stonewalled because it would have been shown that Bush and Chaney were responsible for making the leak happen. They (Bush & Cheney) have done nothing but line the pockets of their cronies with cash, they screwed the American public so they could get richer than they were. Heck you can go back into dubya???s past and there is doubt that he ever served his term in the Air Nat Guard. You can find where Dubya was arrested for cocaine possession, but of course since he became a born again Christian everything is forgiven by you republicans. The fact that no one has any dirt on Obama other than innuendos and supposition drives you Republicans nuts.

Unable to figure out what Bush did wrong? Try walking on the constitution, invading a country without a plan, jailing, torturing people without due process....chew on those facts.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 11/05/2008 2:57:38 PM

Why hasn't Bush been charged with war crimes, anyway? I don't get it!

      • Posted By: leepdx @ 11/05/2008 3:07:51 PM

Because all through history the powerful have weak ignorant people who support them despite their evilness.

  • Posted By: fubi @ 11/05/2008 3:07:45 PM

Since some have missed the point. Had the Economy been good John McCain would have been elected since it tanked he was defeated. Everything else being discussed is only being said in hindsight. Stop making excuses for the fact that money means more in this country than morality. Personally, I thought McCain should have been the republican candidate fours years ago. Maybe we would not have gotten into this mess today. He was not selected because Bush was not unpopular enough and McCain was not popular enough among republicans.

    • Posted By: mpunfun @ 11/05/2008 3:06:02 PM

Begging for Bush? Not in this lifetime. He is the worst President in our country's history. He decimated the U.S. Constitution, tortured in my name, invaded a foreign country under false pretenses, spied on Americans, ran up the largest deficit in our nation's history, sunk us into insurmountable debt and padded Dick Cheney's pockets. Begging for him? I'd rather see a Labrador retriever in office.

Lets not forget the myriad of disasters he has failed to handle or avoid (9/11, Katrina, the ever so ELUSIVE bin laden). yeah, your so right. Let me beg for Bush.....what a joke. Why don't you educate yourself a little bit instread of just watching CNN and Fox News for all your information. Its called critical thinking. What a concept!

comment to chrissyv... I can't believe you're whining about symantics. The bottomline is Obama won significantly in the electoral vote and the majority of the popular vote. If the press want to use the word "landslide", that's their prerogative because that's the writers opinion. Besides, it great to see a clear winner in this, unlike the 2000 election between Bush and Gore where Gore clearly won the popular vote, but it was the electoral vote that won in for Bush thanks to his own brother in Florida. Now that was worth complaining about because look what the Bush W. administration left us with... NOTHING but a recession and debt to other countries!
