If McCain would have in fact put country first, he might have won. But clearly, the selection of Palin as his VP candidate showed that he wanted a gimick to collect some votes that were left hanging when Clinton was eliminated from the contest. He had only met her once. Honestly, don't you think the interview process for the second highest post in the land deserves more than ONE interview? In addition, the McCain campaign seemed unfocused in their agenda, and almost seemed to implode when times got tough. That's not the kind of team I want running our country. You'd think they would have learned by watching the demise of the Clinton machine at the hands of Obama (heaven knows McCain had PLENTY of time after clinching the nomination), but no. His campaign was a disaster. The best team won, and we will be better for it.

This election did seem to have a slight racial-driven feeling to it. Especially with Black Panthers standing outside voting stations not allowing McCain supporters to go inside and vote. That is a blatant constitutional violation. I didn't finish reading the article so I don't what, if anything happened to those bullies. The upside to all this, it is incredible that we have a black president less than a century after the civil rights movement. I would definitely have to say that is progression among mankind.

Palin. Many of us made sure we went out and voted for Obama , because putting Palin one 72 year old heartbeat from the Presidency , would have made us a bigger world joke than we are under George Bush and trust me thats not easy.

I remember as a kid I was campaigning for John Kennedy, and even felt the energy he brought in his speeches. I remember too when he was killed, asnd later while I was serving in Vietnam, when Bobby Kenedy was murdered -- all hope and real optimism seemed lost. I rmember too the visciouness of the unrlelenting personal attacks the GOP orchestrated against Clinton, especially in such a two-faced fashion. In retrospect, it is clear that It was the bush's who were undermining our nation for their own, their base of haves and have mores. Those days are over, the days of the neo-cons are also finished -- and hope for real change is here at last!

John McCain didn't do anything wrong. The media did. The media made sure for the get go that Obama was out there in front the whole time. Not once did they give John McCain equal time. Because if they had it would have a more fair race. I had to laugh at the media this morning how "classy" John McCain was in his speak over not winning. Where was the media earlier? Not only that where is Obama's birth certificate. Not just some lousy copy the media put out. Where is the original? A little late now isn't it? So get off the soap box about McCain's worst campaign ever! The media should look in the mirror!!!!

im aware that it states for the people by the people. these particular people that stated and document that phrase were a bunch of wealthy young land owners who were at the time trying to hang onto there wealth while the brits were trying to take it from them. it has been and always will be, for the rich by the rich, its what they meant when the wrote those words. the commoners were not the people,, the rich were the people. Obama is a very wealthy man, not a commoner, he will continute to preside for the rich. the entire republican/democrate party thing is just another way of playing good cop bad cop. dont expect to recieve checks in the mail from any rich folks any time soon. the more things change, the more things stay the same.

McCain did several things wrong, some noted above.

The moment McCain aligned himself witht he religious right (or some are calling it now the Base), it meant disaster. The fact of the matter is, people simply don't like the overly extreme judgment that comes with the religious right. Hell, they didn't like McCain fromthe start, and only voted for him b/c he was the available Republican.

McCain "kissed the ring" of old school separation, which does not always run parellel to race divides, but makes people start to wonder, "are you up to the same old tricks".. McCain no thought to the young vote or the moderatee vote. He didn't not even attempt to reach any of the minority voters (except maybe the hispanics in the midwest), so....It was the combined vote of all demographics that put Obama over the top, NOT ONE DEMOGRAPHIC...

Obama ran a brilliant campaign, not flawless, but brilliant and unfortuantely, amny are trying to place the loss on the "liveral media and blacks who supposedly voted for Obama b/c he is black (as if the Reps didn't vote for McCain b/c he is a Republican).

These and other thing contributed to his loss. Plus the fact that he is simply not informed enough on technology, the economy (which he admitted), etc. made him simply detached from the majority of the people of America.

    Shoals... nice post!

There is NO WAY that we will not all be paying more for taxes and energy. I just hope higher paying jobs start coming back....so we can all afford it.

    • Posted By: Sue228 @ 11/05/2008 1:20:31 PM

You are absolutely right IndianaChris! We all will certainly be paying more for taxes and energy under Obama...The news media and the left wing liberals got their wish..But, as the saying goes ( Be careful what you wish for). They bashed McCain and Sarah Palin ruthlessly. And our left wing college professors brainwashed our students to think liberalisim. They turned out in droves to vote for Obama. And add to that, thousands of our military's votes didn't even show up! What's that all about? Then we have Disney Characters and dead people voting all over the place! Now,that's how to run a campaign to win! And these same liberals talk about George Bush stealing the election? duh!!! And don't forget all you liberals, pay your higher taxes when they come, ( and they will ) because Joe Biden says that's your patriotic duty and do not be selfish!!! So don't complain and shut your mouth and pay them!!!!

    • Posted By: notjustamom @ 11/05/2008 12:09:09 PM

yeah, keep praying for those higher-paying jobs to help us pay for anything. it's much more likely that with "those greedy corporations" being forced to pay more taxes and higher costs for mandatory emissions reductions, there will be fewer jobs altogether. oh well, our government will take care of us. oh wait, that means me.

You're the only one in this room showing ignorance with those odious, repulsive, boorish, nauseating, malevolent and extremely hideous comments. Your mouth and mind need at least fifty cases of toilet tissue for the **** you're spewing. Obama may be your nightmare but for the MAJORITY of voters, he's the American dream come true. So if you want to stay asleep in fear, go ahead. One day you're gonna have to wake up!!!! Go and help Bush pack or something. Obama's moving in!!!! Gosh I can't believe in 2008 you're saying "stupid, ignorant black people". Did you recently inherit a plantation or something? You've got a slave master mentality. And guess what, isn't it about time that something GOOD happened to African Americans just because "they're black"? There might have been some people who voted just because he was black and good for them. Why did you all put George Bush in - twice?? Please for goodness sake, give me the rationale behind that. Give me a break!!! The only way to go from your last presidency is up, my friend. I still cannot believe you said that.

    • Posted By: politicianslie @ 11/05/2008 12:46:48 PM

There are plenty of other qualified black Americans out there who are more qualified than Mr Obama to be President. And if you are not an American (and canoot spell "love" or "the", then keep your comments to yourself.

      • Posted By: IamnotanAmericanbutluvdaUS @ 11/05/2008 1:20:12 PM

well, okay I decided to explain something to you. I am from the Caribbean and the "love=luv" and "the =da", is just a form of colloquialism, my dear. Hope that helps you.

      • Posted By: IamnotanAmericanbutluvdaUS @ 11/05/2008 1:13:12 PM

My dear, no need to get nasty or rude. It was only a typo and I was only defending the people of my race whom that particular blogger deemed "ignorant and stupid black people." No need to get yourself in a "McPinch" (deliberately spelt) over my comment. It was not directed to you, so calm down. Now, to address your comments. Please tell me where are the other qualified African Americans who were running for the Presidency of the United States on November 4th 2008? There was only one - BARAK OBAMA and he won. It's over. Get Over it. I am not celebrating with you. I am celebrating with those who supported the new PRESIDENT elect. That has such a good sound to it. PRESIDENT OBAMA. You will get use to hearing it over the next four years. Just get use to it and get over it. And the day I keep my comments to myself is the same day someone stops you from voicing your opinions. Now, my dear you go with God. May He bless you and your new President. I pray for your country's success under your new leadership and pray that you will be blessed by the ideals and leadership of your new PRESIDENT OBAMA. I hope your cup runneth over whether you like the new president or not. He's yours and whatever he does will affect you. Pray for him because the future of the next generation depends on his success.

They soon forget that they elected TWICE the worst president in history. Even his own party kept him in a closet these last days. Should have taken away their voting rights for such a lame pick as Bush.

      • Posted By: IamnotanAmericanbutluvdaUS @ 11/05/2008 12:44:49 PM

TWICE!!!!!! WHY??? Tell them to look around and see what voting/cheating for BUSH did for them for eight years. WHY DID THEY VOTE FOR HIM, TWICE??? Anyway which way you look at PRESIDENT OBAMA, he is going to be better than that. AMERICA CAN'T LOSE!!!! The only way to go is up and united. You have a new America now and I am so proud of your country!!!!

  • Posted By: newchange @ 11/05/2008 1:18:24 PM

John McCain destroyed his chance from the beginning. He caved under the threats that if he did not choose the "appropriate" running mate, he would lose support from both inside and outside influences . Obviously, Sara Palin was not his first choice and never should have been. Frankly, as a woman, I thought it was very insulting that she was chosen, for the most part, to serve an agenda.

Washington better wake up! The middle class are not a bunch of country bumpkins that they assume us to be. Please let me clarify... I am not Betty homemaker, or Joe the plumber's wife. I am a citizen of this country who believes in by the people, for the people and of the people. Not a bunch a rich, white middle-aged men amassing further wealth, perpetuating and allowing corruption while in office. Yes, I am caucasian by the way. Congratulations to Senator Obama!! It is our hope that he is the man who can turn this country around. We feel renewed by his victory!

once again,, some holy roller has forgotten his bible. jesus said give unto ceasar what is ceasar's, and give unto God, what is God's. jesus was refering to money, as the coins had ceasar's image on it much as our money has our leaders images on it now. this was plainly a statement by jesus of separation of church and state. this separation of church and state is a basis for our entire system of government. we need to continue to keep religion and politics separated, however, it seems we cannot do this. religion is obviously ingrained in our politics as well as printed on our money with the mantra "in God we trust". its time to honor jesus, and our own policies and get religion out of politics lest we become a nation of religious radicals just like the ones that attacked the trade center and thousands of other targets around the world over the last 2000 years. these are not the end days. the sun is young and so is our planet. it may be the end days for mankind if we dont get things together, but i promise you, mother nature will survive, thrive, and move forward. wake up morons, get back to basics.

The article is correct, apart from not mentioning the cowardness of Maca, who didn't dare to raise the Wright issue, out of fear that they would call him " racist "...

Maca looked old, apologetic & didn't distance himself from Bush...

What went wrong for Mc. Cain? It an easy answer:
    1) the leftist communist media which newsweek is a part of trashed Mc Cain.

2)The stupid idiot ADHD crack/ cocaine prozac suckers voted for so called "change we can believe",

    3) The black herd voted like robot because there wanted to make "history".

    4) The illegal hispanic mass illegally voted in places like California and Florida, hoping that they will have a free pass to US citizenship,

    5) Mc Cain was too coward to paint Obama as the radical con that he is.

    6) Crazy liberal white Americans felt that they had to vote for a black man in order to be free of the guilt of ancesters abuses during slavery that they seem to carry with.

Here is an honest answer to your questions. Let's have the same conversation two years from now when the honeymoon period will be well over and when Barack Hussien Obama won't be able to keep so many of his impossible promises.............

    • Posted By: coldcreek @ 11/05/2008 1:17:19 PM

Dear denmill: What went wrong with McCain is that he lost the vote of this crazy white Republican and people like me when we listened and heard too many voices like yours and those of people yelling "kill him" at a rally.

    • Posted By: JOEJOECO @ 11/05/2008 12:48:40 PM

denmill! Get a reality check! You seem to be ignorant or still in the KKK world! This country was founded because of all the immigrants who settled here hundred & hundred years ago. You have to thank Christopher Columbus that you have something to say today since he was the one who sailed accross the oceans and discovered this country. He never met your great-great great parents here, but he met the Aztecs, etc. Latinos exit in the Americas before your ancesters settled here in this country..SO GET A REAL! America have chosen a smart guy who can lead us into a new direction.

The thing that Americans should remember from this election is that the marginal ultra right wing spin faction of the republican party will be responsible for destroying the candidacy of an otherwise successful Progressive Republican for a second time. The only difference is, unlike in 2000 where they merely managed to sink McCain's ship, this time they have managed to sink the entire republican fleet.

  • Posted By: Del_Dude @ 11/05/2008 1:12:43 PM

He also sunk to scare tactics and defamation - people are tired of the divisive tactics of the Republican Party!

  • Posted By: Harleybikerbabe @ 11/05/2008 1:01:09 PM

Instead of pissin and moinin about who was elected lets get behind them and make America the greatest country in the world AGAIN, look around people the world is laughting at us.
