The biggest drag to McCain was his choice for VP. He threw out all his weaponry he had against Obama and it compounded his age disadvantage. Age would not have been a problem had he picked a qualified running mate. Him and Palin made Obama Biden look and sound very safe even though he was trying very hard to paint Obama as unsafe. He showed serious lack of judgement and the fact that she turned out to be so divisive at a time when Obama was preaching unity didn't dwell well with the electorate. She even managed to divide her own party and their campaign in such a short time.

McCain lost because he chose a running mate with absolutely no experience, ran on a ticket that has lost touch with society, and aligned himself with anti-American, anti-family Evangelicals!

I agree with twets, for one moment we saw the real McCain in his concession speech and I have no doubt he now sees that America is rejecting the "base" he was pandering too.

More importantly while the election of Obama signals how far we have moved away from racism and bigotry, it signals a return to the "idea" that is America, Obama's speech only reinforced my view that he is a man of vision.
    Let the new millennium begin.

"...how far we have moved away from racism"...ARE YOU KIDDING? i can't avoid the impression that what tipped the balance in O's favor were all those voters of "color" who otherwise wouldn't have bothered.to go to the polls if one of their own hadn't been up for election. But it is interesting how this should make it apparent--at leas to those who are willing to see--just who who the REAL racists are in this country.

I sure agree we saw a John McCain that seemed to have been lost for good. It's going to be like executing a U turn with an aircraft carrier, but I believe we can now move together in a positive direction. I was pretty sure that the Bushies would manage to start a nuclear war - we were probably closer that we will ever want to know. Bush seems like a character out of F Scott Fitzgerald's novels - smashing up everything in his path and then retreating into his vast carelessness and indifference.

    Bush......Bush was definately something else....

Comment:BLACK PEOPLE turned this election into a race issue, like they do with everything else------ and then call white people racists! HA!

Do you know anything about America? The percentage of the population that is Afro-American is what? 14%? You think Afro-Americans did this to you personally? They didn't, America did. We're just tired of shrill, divisive propaganda. It leads nowhere.

I'm sorry you're scared. But an old adage I like is: "If you're scared, say you're scared. Don't jump off the blame cliff".

It was the outfit she was wearing. I am also a christian. But I am so glad McCain did not win for I did not want Palin a VP. I am pro-choice. Plus Obama is a fresh change and he sure as heck cannot do any worse than the mess Bush has made. ugh

  • Posted By: An american nightmare = Obama @ 11/05/2008 12:45:32 PM

Obama can not and will not honor what he said he will do in the debates. People too foolish to realize that will see a harsh reality when he does not uphold promises. Unfortunaltey, there are no repercussion for lying or not following through with statements made in debates

    • Posted By: steton3 @ 11/05/2008 1:05:36 PM

Ya, I agree, there are no repercussions for lying . If there were, Bush and Cheney would have been impeached years ago and maybe we wouldn't have the problems we have now. I don't think the people who voted Bush in the second election have the right to tell me or anyone else who voted for Obama "wait and see what happens" you all lost that when YOU chose the worst president in history for another term. Also it was about time for the young to take back America.

John McCain lost support because he seemed to change his mind on a daily basis. At a certain point, he stopped answering questions with any sort of answer about what he really thought, and just substituted the all-purpose "I'm a maverick" answer. When he was asked about Sarah Palin's abilities, he would say "She's a maverick". When he was on the campaign trail, and rumors of their disagreements would arise, he would say "We're both mavericks! We don't always agree on everything, that wouldn't be fun!" (as if "fun" was what we were expecting him to accomplish as President.)

I don't know if McCain decided to abandon his strongly-held beliefs in favor of whatever his campaign said was 'working' that day, or whether he just though 'trying something new' (i.e., Palin) was a good chess move, but there were a lot of Americans who voted for Obama as a way to reject McCain. He was right to take the blame for the loss.

McCain , lost a lot of votes with his poor choice fof Palin. she was for herself not Mcain. The people that read what she had done in alsaka, knew she was wrong he didn't have her vetted should have. You don't pick a person after talking to them once for two hours. She had left the small town indebt that didn't have any debt before her, She committed adultry, fought the oil company for money which she got and some went to the people of Alaska. Didn't use the money to fix the Pipe line which is leaking oil in the tundra mealting ice. Pipe line is rusting out no maintance. This didn't show me anything. Then tried to get her unmarried daughter married before coming to washington and lie about the marriage. The girl refused and I say good for her. lllAs with a lot of teens she may not have wanted to marry him and he sure didn't look like he wanted to get married.I feel sorry for her a lot of the information came from family members , The Anchorage Daily News, and the facts on the Alaska Pipe line came from their records. All could be looked up. Then the nasty campain he started was real bad. I had voted republican for years, but sure as heck didn't this time and I hope the republican party has better since than back her in anything. Also the abuse of her office as Gov. She was a very poor choice.

    Re: this comment from tdogg:

???Comment: If republicans are now the minority, I will be quitting my job and waiting for my check at the mailbox. Take from the rich and give to the poor just as you promised obama.???

First and foremost, you're an idiot!!! IF (and only IF) you are lucky enough to make over $250K per year, then yes you SHOULD pay more taxes than someone like me: a single mom STRUGGLING to pay for her child's daycare and to put food on the table. Because I know what you???re thinking???No! I am not on welfare or any kind of goverment assistance. In fact, I work full time and possess both a Bachelors degree and an MBA!!! So get those ignorant stereotypes right out of your head! My suggestion for you, tdogg, is to go out to the real world, volunteer at some charity events, walk for a cause, and learn to care for others besides yourself!! You will see that the poor and middle class DO TRY to make a better life for themselves and their children.

Secondly, if you were happy with Bush these last few years and are happy with the current economy....I have just one more question for you:

???you DO know we are talking about the United States of America right????

And for all you supposed ???god loving??? evangelicals, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR! Isn???t that what it states in the bible? The definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results. 78% of you voted for Bush in the last election and now 72% of you voted for McCain??? Learn from your mistakes and if you learn nothing at all, know that you obviously don???t know how to pick them (presidents, that is).

New blood is good. New voice, new ideas, new strategies, new country and overall a new outlook.

can this election be viewed more objectively as anti-republican rather than pro-democrats. The Bush REgime went too far in its ill-fated action in Iraq and Afghanistan. What has been the cost of war to the American and what has been the effects of it on the financial crisis faced by them.

I'm so proud of being a US citizen, a land of possibilites it shows that the system works and that we all should be proud of being an American. It shows that our great county has grown up. Congratulation country, welcome back America. The world is proud of you.

    • Posted By: JJPHAT486 @ 11/05/2008 1:02:23 PM

I am with you and I am very proud to be an American. It does show how much white America has grown. On the other hand the 95% of black voters showed me race was the most important thing. Say all you want about McCain's age or best man for the job, but it's all a bunch of bs. I was hoping Obama would win and he would have even if the black vote was 50%. So the black vote did not dictate who won. But, it is sad black Americans are doing the same thing they have fought against for years. What kind of progress is that? Now are we going to take the opportunity to realize we as individuals can do whatever we set our minds to? I hope so. On that note, which I didn't really want to be a downer during this historic time, please unite as one. We are AMERICANS and the sooner we come to terms with being AMERICANS , then and only then we can move from YES WE CAN to YES WE DID. One other thing, please study all the issues and other offices to make a quality vote. Don't just vote for the Pres. It is your duty as an AMERICAN. God Bless Us All

The Palin pick parallels one of the great military victories taught at the US Naval Academy, the battle of Incheon which reversed a string of North Korean victories during the Korean war. I suspect that it was one of the military lessons learned that McCain applied to politics. The initial Palin pick turned the tides, but then the bottom fell out.

"The battle began on September 15, 1950, and ended around September 28. Through a surprise amphibious assault far from the Pusan Perimeter that UN and South Korean forces were desperately defending, Incheon was secured. The battle ended a string of victories by the invading North Korean People's Army (NKPA). The subsequent UN recapture of nearby Seoul severed the NKPA's supply lines, placing North Korean forces in South Korea in a dangerously untenable situation.

The majority of UN ground forces involved were U.S. Marines, commanded by General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur was the driving force behind the operation, overcoming the strong misgivings of more cautious generals to a risky assault over extremely unfavorable terrain."

can anybody enlighten us as to how much the events in Afghanistan and Iraq has contibution to the financial melt-down and republican election losses in the elections

  • Posted By: SorianoDesmarais4 @ 11/05/2008 12:59:13 PM

Well I sure as hell prefer the "fad" right now then the angry war-monger who will only continue to divide this country. Obama may not have the experience, but it is obvious that McCain will only do whatever it takes to "look good" hence his decision to choose Palin as his runningmate - one of the biggest mistakes he made and it doesn't even take a very smart person to see that. I'd rather give the man a shot then elect another Republican who, during his campaign, has proven would do absolutely nothing positive for this country. All Obama's talk on hope and faith...maybe that is exactly what we need. Morality is so low not only in the U.S. but around the world and I see that spark Obama brings to inspire and be a good leader. Everyone thought JFK didn't have enough experience and was too young, but he was one of the most memorable Presidents in history despite his short time in office...so just chill out and let the Dems do what they do best...lead!

The biggest shame that I found in this year's election was the media. It was stressed to get out and vote and people were told that "Your vote counts!" Hogwash! Last night on ABC and CNN, the media listed Obama behind in states and had them marked in blue. They counted the last 8 seconds until the polls closed in the western states, then IMMEDIATELY stated that Obama was our next President elect. How do you think this looked to new first time voters? I had some in my home and they wanted to know what happened. The media could at least make some sort of information available before they make these statements. It looked like they had just picked the new President and that the voters count didn't matter at all. That is a shame as it will turn off the young voters who saw it.
One more thing. Would EVREYONE please stop calling Obama an African-American please? By our own laws, he has to be American. African-American is a title for someone who was born in Africa and then became naturalized in America. If Obama was this, he could not legally run as President nor take the office. Do some history research! And please stand up for your rights during the next coming years. American's are going to have to be strong or government will take over everything. They have us right where they want to keep us. No jobs, bad economy, dependant on the government. Then what can we expect from a Senate of only 100 members who have broken the law over 500 known times? They make the laws to mean you and I, not them. It's time Americans stood up and DEMANDED that justice be for all and anyone committing a crime whether it be for failure to wear a seat belt, jaywalking, being in the country illegally, robbery, rape, or murder be punished to the extent that our laws state. It's time to stop allowing criminals all the rights while the victims are punished. You may think illegals should be allowed to continue as Obama does. If so, you believe that it's okay to commit a crime. Why do you think they are called illegals? They broke the law to enter our country. Personally, I think they should be transported back to their country and then handed the proper forms to fill out in order to enter legally. I don't have a problem with them coming to America, just the way they do it.
Oh and my final statement. "God Bless America". We need it now more than ever!

It is easy to comment on something, you have no actual knowledge of as a "first time voter." Your comment implies that the Presidential race, one of the most secure elections was somehow manipulated by the media and we as citizens, stood by and did nothing. Hummmmm....I see that political science is not your strongest area of study. The point of any election, of life itself, is to study for yourself. If you watched too much of any one network, shame on you. If you, never went beyond the politics and studied, actually records, which under the Freedom of Information Act, you are entitled to, then shame on you. Understand, the systems, you live and are governed by. It's a privilege to be born in this country, yet we take this privilege for granted, until things don't go the way we want. Not its time to complain, where is your voice before things go wrong, where is your concern for how the government conducts its day to day business. It starts with you and if you don't understand how it happens, then simply SHUT-UP and let those who do make more intelligent comments - I've heard enough dumb comments to last me a life time.

  • Posted By: McCain_in_08 @ 11/05/2008 12:46:21 PM

He will likely move quickly to push for forced unionization of companies such as Wal-Mart - starting an inflationary spiral that could lead us back to "Carter style" double digit inflation. Runaway inflation is another thing that young voters have never experienced -and let???s see how well that plays with fixed income seniors in the next election!

Me - I will just kick back and watch the fireworks - and when the dust settles in a couple more years - the country may well see Mr. Obama and the incompetent Democrats crushed for good - their disgraceful treatment of black america as permanent pet "victims" finally broken by the false expectations that Obama is now somehow going to provide "riches" to those who failed to gain an education and marketable job skills.

If the aftermath of this election, and the coming backlash after next four years ??? lead as I believe it will, to a return to a more balanced media, a return to more traditional values of self-reliance rather than reliance on the government, then our country will be the better for it.

I hear so much talk about Obama not having any experience, but realistically, what experience does McCain have? Being a prisoner of war or even serving in a war time only makes him "trigger happy" not experienced or anything else, and as for Sarah Palin, she is a joke. She didn't even know what Roe v. Wade was, let alone be second in command of the entire country. Either you people from the "red states" are igonorant or just as stupid as McCain and Srah Palin. The country i will be better off without the two of them , at least for the next four years.

What in the world caused McCain's facial tics, tongue juts, and eye winks during those debates?
The decision to use powerful vitamins to appear more alert was a big mistake!
