Your misogyny is showing!
The best thing John McCain did in 08 was to pick Sarah Palin as his VP and thus introduce her to the national scene!
I left the republicans because of the hypocrisy of the far-right and the pseudo intellectuals and media elitists who forgot what conservative principles are all about!
I left the hypocritical far-left because they don't have a clue what "the least of these" means and because of the pseudo intellectuals and media elitists who forgot what true democracy is!
I am an Independent who wants to see authenticity! Words are not enough. Show me!
For these reasons, I think Sarah Palin is the hope of the future! She is the real deal, and she walks the talk! Follow her lead and our global community will be a much better place to live in!
How can you say that you left the Republicans because "of the far-right hypocrisy" and end up with Palin as your choice? I don't begrudge you for this , it's just that Palin is far-right, and not ashamed to say so. Also, too (borrowing from Gov. Palin) I hear the talk, (interview after interview, and she's not done!) but I'm not seeing the walk!
'Aware!': Those are some powerful adjectives you applied to Palin in your post below.
'Smart'. Almost immediately McCain decided that he didn't dare allow her to be interviewed without him there, even though all the interviews were by those the campaign chose. Or is he a mysogenist too? She has proven him right in her subsequent interviews.
'Easy to talk to'. She may be easy to talk 'to', but what comes back is nothing but strings of unrelated sentence fragments that make no sense at all. Even during her most recent interview, her 'response' was humiliating inability to come close to a grasp of any aspect of the bail out.
'Tough'. That's why she whines that she 'only asked for a diet Dr. Pepper', instead of explaining how those mean republicans were able to force upon her (you left out 'maverick') over $150k of clothes she says she didn't want.
'Transparent'. That's why she repeatedly told the electorate that she told Congress "no thanks" to the Bridge To Nowhere, when in fact she took all the federal tax funds that were earmarked for it.
'Genuine moral center'. She charges the government for per diem expenses while working from home. (So what's her salary for?)
'Core American values'. Like participating in a rite to protect herself from invasion by witches and evil spirits?
'Ethics'. She campaigned on smears and fear.
'Inherent wisdom'. HA! Ok, ya got me. Your posting was a joke, right?
Your allegation of mysogyny impairs feminist progress. It is no more valid than to say that ridicule of Bush's ignorance is sexist. She is ridiculed because she is a baffoon and a hypocrit who trades on her sexuality for political gain. She is the "real deal" only in your own sexist prejudice.
Have just finished reading your 2008 Campaign Secrets (11/17/08). My compliments to your reporters. A great in-depth analysis of campaign events, strategies, and candidate reactions. I do take issue with Todd Palin being referred to as "the Eskimo." Definitely not cool. The Republicans beat themselves on their party platform, i.e. taxing health care benefits for instance, and, of course, Roe vs. Wade. Who's going to vote to tax themselves more on something that has been free and take away reproductive choice too? John McCain is one of the nicest men in the senate, but even he and a woman veep couldn't sell that platform. It was a nice effort though. P. Bertok, Michigan
if media would ignore palin, perhaps she would go away and that would be a good thing. this country doesn't need an ignorant person in the national spotlight. the dumming down of america is here, but she is a big much! have had enough of her hateful, whining, winking , lying personality. and dragging her children to every photo-op event! her appeal was/is to ignorant bigoted rednecks. it would be a good thing if she would crawl under a rock up there in alaska and stay there.
if the media would ignore sarah palin, maybe we would crawl under a rock and stay there, in alaska, where she belongs. have had enough of her whining, winking, meanness, lying, exaggerating. enough of her dragging her children to every photo-op event, enough of her exalted opinion of herself, enough of her basic ignorance. her one talent seems to be able to connect to the camera and to ignorant bigots.
McCain may have had a chance if he had run more mainstream and been less hateful. Instead he gambled and lost by going for the repig base. Palin brought out the crazies. The repig base feeds on hate. Even as McCain was conceeding, his supporters were booing Obama. The neocons never sleep and will be back to sand -bag Oboma just as they have to many Democrats.
Both parties are in the hip pocket of the banks. The banksters (bankstards) are the largest employers of of H1B visa personell. High unenployment - well duh!!
You are so right. My family, friend and I have all cancelled Newsweek. We really started noticing how bad the reporting was getting early this year and it just got to the point where we were sick of it. So, as of this summer, we have all cancelled out subscriptions. Newsweek is going under, just watch and see.

You know, I've subscribed to Newsweek for quite a few years - and stuck with the magazine through some irresponsible reporting...perhaps even accidental errors. But why are you reporting something that could be easily verified without having done the back check and foot work? To grin and repeat what anonymous sources say, as though those sources were God's truth itself, is to reduce the magazine to rag sheet status. Did Ms. Connolly see receipts? Did she see evidence of 10,000 worth of clothing on Todd Palin? Did she see Gucci shoes on the children? Designer suits on Palin? Has it not been reported that when someone did back check, they found the receipts dated before Ms. Palin joined the campaign, that the shopping was done by a designer working for the campaign, and that other 'factoids' easily verifiable have proven to be utterly false? Ms. Palin ought to sue you for libel...I would. and I don't subscribe to rag sheets, so I'll be cancelling my subscription and finding another source for more reliable news. Shades of Stephen Glass!

GREAT article! Loved reading it....it was interesting to see "behind the scenes" of a lot of the campaigns!
I reallu enjoyed reading all of the sections written. What was of particular interest to me was the side of McCain they portrayed. It's too bad that he let the election carry him away. Now will be the time to see him continue to reach across the aisle in a show of bipartisanship. I am just thrilled at the outcome of our election!!! Go Obama/Biden!!!!!!
It completely blows my mind that Katie Connolly and Evan Thomas have spent so much time and energy "creating" a story about a VP candidate's clothes, when important questions about Obama's past remain unanswered. Why did Obama remain with a racist pastor for over 20 years? Why did Obama attempt to turn the government banking bailout into a payday for ACORN? How much waste, fraud, and abuse was there throughout the entire, financially hitorical, Obama campaign? Why does Joe Biden give less money to charity than the average middle-class American, and he has made millions!?
The bias of this magazine, and the MSM, is the exact cause as to why they are dropping in readership and losing money. Come on people! Wake up and see through this agenda that these so-called journalists are feeding you!
Interesting to note that Newsweek has now become the slick back version of the National Enquirer. Governor Palin DID appear with Sunnu and Liberman and all sorts of folks who were"pro choice". Since lying seems to have become an art form with your reporters, I will treat ALL information associated with your magazine as second hand gossip.
And yeah, we get it, you all voted for Obama

Your latest issue was one of the best I have ever read. An inspirational idea, excellence in journalism, a chance to read HOW history was made. Congratulations. TampaFL
The Shopping Sarah thing is OLD NEWS! It's worn out... GET THE PICTURE!
I'm surprised that McCain said no to using Rev. Jeremiah Wright, not attacking Michelle Obama, not making not serving in the military an issue for Obama etc. Honestly, there is a reason for each of these. We don't know it yet but it will come out. I do not believe McCain has much decency. I hope he has...

This has never been a two way street with the left. They outraged about questions regarding Wright, Ayers and others saying they were unimportant, yet they felt completely justified and free to have a field day with "much more important issues" like Palin's hair, make up and clothing.
It's been said before, but it's worth repeating... If McCain have even a passing relationship with an abortion clinic bomber, the left and the MSM would have crucified him for it. Transparent? Oh yeahhhh.
Sorry, but Obama didn't waste time attacking McCain/Palin for their associations. But, it doesn't mean they don't exist. Palin is married to a man who belonged to a group that wants to succeed from the USA. Leaders from that group are on record stating they had an open door policy with Palin. There was some policital tit for tat going on in Alaska. Palin has a witchhunter praying for her. McCain has plenty in his background that could have been used against him. Just because it wasn't the focus of the Obama campaign, doesn't mean your candidates are clean.
I agree with trishao8. The Obama campaign never brought up Todd Palin's association with AIP, Sarah Palin's strange episode in her church with the voodoo minister, the "Troopergate" flap, or any negatives regarding the Republican vice presidential candidate. That was all through reporters and many, many articles in the Alaska newspapers that were then picked up in the MSM. If you want to place blame for "attacks" on Sarah Palin, at least get the sources correct. However, I must say that I am glad many of this background information came to light, such as her charging the state of Alaska for per diem to stay in her house and for transporting her children across the country. And these are factual -- in today's Anchorage Daily News, Sarah Palin has verified that these charges are true. She just refutes them as being legal. I don't think she understands the concept of some actions being technically legal while still being unethical. It's a fine point that does not seem to register with her.
In any event, the Newsweek article was spectacular in its depth and breadth. Thank you for all the hard work and incredible reporting of the entire campaign. When is ithe book coming out???
Where did I implicate the Obama campaign? I said the mainstream media and the left. Normally, I don't spend time trying to educate people who either can't read or chooses to turn what one says into what they want, but for you I'll make an exception.
The Voodoo episode was just that... you're twisting a one time publicity episode in to a lifestyle. And Palin was cleared of all wrong doing regarding troopergate a day before the election. However, it's obvious that you, along with the biased panel that previously found that she "abused her power" both agree that it's okay for idiot troopers to taser children and drive their vehicles while under the influence.

And the reason the MSM left didn't hammer on Palin about her husband's AIP issue is because there wasn't anything there. Duh.
Whatever Palin spent on per deim, it was nearly 80 percent less than her predecessor.

Everyone knows the MSM, including NW was in the tank for Obama... hammering Palin for her hair and make up was only one indicator. That tells me if McCain had any of the questionable relationships Obmama had, the MSM and the left would have had a field day with it.
