Good story. Looks like the Republicans are up in arms against it, as it reveals a pretty ugly truth about Palin. Sorry Republicans. Reality has a liberal bias.

Who wrote that B.S.? Is it you Nicole Wallace? Why do you wear kneepads, and is it starch on your dress?Thank you for helping America elect the most dangerous traitor ever at the highest position. You liberals just stink up the place. One day we'll use the very same tactics (just as I'm doing right now) just to make you feel whatit's like to be harassed by jerks. Just jump, baby, jump!
I suggest you are over-charging for your advice.
This report was fantastic--really facinating to read. I couldn't put my computer down. It really humanised the campaign and candidates in a way that I hadn't expected. It was beautiful, personal, and illuminating. Thank goodness the candidates allowed this kind of access. Thank you, Newsweek!
Sarah's going to try to begin her "rehabilitation" and "reinvention" process this weekend with Greta Van Susteren of FOX News. Good luck with that, Sarah. But remember: we'll always have Youtube and the hours of invaluable footage of you and your idiocy. You have no credibility with mainstream America. I know you have expressed concerns that PRESIDENT-ELECT Barack Obama is "out of the mainstream" of America, but your fear-and-hate-filled rhetoric places you far, far beyond the mainstream of the USA. Maybe you and your husband should just stick with the Alaska Independence Party and secede.
"Levi Johnston-Palin", Fortunately, lately when it's suggested or they're asked about the likelihood that Sarah will have future prominence, virtually every republican goes into great detail about how many terrific prospective candidates there are or will be....
Thanks for the heads up about her being on Fox this weekend. Hadn't gotten to the point that my gag reflex is too strong, but I'll watch this one.

WELL HERE WE GO FINGER-POINTING SOUNDS LIKE A BUCH OF CHILDREN NOT WANTING TO TAKE THE BLAME FOR WHAT THEY DID WRONG SO THEY BLAME SOMEBODY ELSE. THE ELECTION IS OVER SO LETS ALL STAND BY AND WATCH OBAMA AND THE DEM FALL ON THEIR FACE. AND YES HE RAN ON A BLACK-MAN TICKET AND THAT IS HOW HE WON. IF HE CAN PAY BACK ALL THE FAVORS HE OWES PEOPLE FOR GETTING HIM ELECTED WILL SEE HOW HE DOES IT.. I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. JUST WAITING TO SEE WHAT HE DOES WITH THE MILITARY MY DAUGHTER IS IN THE AIR FORCE FOR 21 YEARS SO NOW THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF HAS NEVER SERVED A DAY IN HIS LIFE.
You say you're proud of being American like being American means being white
Unfortunately Hojohojo, you are the only one who saw Obama running as a black candidate. Your assertion says a ton about your racist tendencies, and only reinforces how very right we were to pick Obama. Thanks for reassuring me even further about the correctness of our selection. Hopefully your daughter isn't as dumb as you.
Your left fore-finger must be fatigued after writing that. Go rest.
THE ELECTION IS OVER AND WE ARE HEADED DOWN A DARK ROAD. LEAD BY A MAN ELECTED FOR HIS RACE ONLY. THE YOUNG 1ST TIME VOTERS STATED THAT THEY JUST VOTED FOR THE 1ST TIME ONLY TO MAKE HISTORY AND NEW NOTHING ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON THE COUNTRY. WE NEED TO PRAY TO GOD FOR HIS HELP AND GUIDEANCE. NEVER HEARD HIM TALK ABOUT GOD OR HIS REAL BELIEFES. I HATE TO THINK ABOUT HIM BEING COMMANDER IN CHIEF
Please, this is a FIRST BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT, and you would never except someone gaining the presidency unless they was white. If you don't like it, leave! Other people accepted whites all this time, made out the best we could with Bush being in office, no matter how F*cked up the Bush Administration was, you will still want him there because he's white. Credentials, and what the people want don't matter, huh? What about your children's future? You're not even willing to give the man a chance, no matter who won the presidency, we all are taking a gamble on that person!!! Blacks did not get him in office alone, we are not the majority here!!!! Every race played a part in electing Obama because we all felt like he was qualified, or atleast more qualified than his opponent. You say what you never heard of him talking about GOD or his real beliefs, but I bet you wouldn't have listened if he did. You are apart of the problem here in America, white skin don't make you superior, it just makes you a white person. I'm sorry you have those views, and hopefully you'll be a bit more open minded in the future.
Also happens that a lot of us aren't racists and didn't like the idea of stirring a pot of hate in this country. Go crawl back under your rock bigot. We don't need any more of you folksy people running our country. We have spoken.
....someone lived in an all-white town with no cultural diversity whatsoever. Wake up and realize you are not the only people on the face of the earth. The face of America is changing whether you like it or not.
At least the man is intelligent, and I'm quite sure knows that Africa is a continent.
Please stopped screaming. You are giving hojophobia a bad name.
During the campaign when those inside the McCain campaign made remarks or or were critical of Obama they were labeled as liars and worse. Now that these unconfirmed claims are made about Governor palin they are accepted as fact. The sexism is still running rampant.
The future is what everybody living lives for, and works for. Our country worries more about helping other countries instead of helping our own. We have poverty on every corner. the elderly suffer every day yet we send billions out of this country to those who stabb us in the back as we walk away. Its not right.
That is so true, but we as individuals need to drop the racism and learn to help each other or at least try to up lift one another. If we can't unite as a country and just agree to disagree without all the violence, things will stay the same. People get on here and go crazy with the blame game, but it starts at home. Raise your children to not be prejudice, that is a huge set back in this country. Too many people are filled with hate about a race of people they know nothing about, except what they see on TV. The whole world felt like it was time for a change, not just blacks or democrats. We are all Americans. One race if you ask me.
The best piece of journalism I've seen in a long time. All of the players, Clinton, Obama, and McCain come off as alternately heroic and arrogant, human and weak. Stories of this election will continue to be told in the decades to come, but they will use the facts to support a narrative, instead of the narrative being all of the facts. Bravo Newsweek.
You chose an apt name, "coherentish".
Monique:
Perhaps you should take some lessons in spelling and grammar before you post comments in a public forum. But then again, perhaps you are emulating your charmingly uneducated hero. Reporters, and others, do not fly on 'plains'. Perhaps, too, you could add to your vast knowledge base (culled, it would seem, from the gossip press), by reading newspapers that report facts. I live in hope for you.

There is a difference between dumb and ignorant. Sarah Palin is ignorant. Anyone who doesn't know which is the bad one, North or South Korea, or thinks they understand world politics because they can see Russia from their house, or thinks Africa is a country and not a continent is IGNORANT. Shouls Ms. Palin ever run for any office (other than in Alaska, I mean who cares?) , ever my vote will cancel Indigo's out.
To Indigo: There is a difference between dumb and ignorant. Sarah Palin is ignorant and terrifying! My vote in 2012, should that evil woman actually get a chance to run for any office will cancel yours out.
Apparently, based on what many are writing, everything is Sarah's fault. It should not matter that McCain was not our top choice, and we were stuck with him for some unknown reason. Again, not something to consider.
Apparently, according to all, Sarah is just some dummy, with no intelligence at all, since her IQ is 110. Ooops, I forgot, beloved favourite son, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, had an IQ of 113. So I guess he was a dummy too.
I suppose that there was no choice in this election cycle but to vote for Mr. Intellectual, Obama, who believes our country has 57/59 states; and Mr. Highly Intelligent, Biden, who doesn't know who was President during the Great Depression or that television was not yet invented when the Great Depression came.
Sadly, the biggest news about Sarah is about the $150,000 or so that was spent on wardrobe for Sarah and her family. Is that it??? So I guess she was to run around the country in Kmart/Walmart Clothes and flip-flops, as that would be more ideal to the Democrats. I guess we are to forgive and forget about Michelle Obama's wardrobe expenditures of $1,000 dresses and $700 imported shoes; and the lovely large allowance both Lil Obama girls have for clothing, shoes and extracurricular activities, which is over $10,000 a year. I guess it's true, the Obama's are more like us... ridiculous in their everyday spending.
Get a grip people, President Bush did not create the financial mess we are in, WE DID!!! Ridiculous spending on the part of everyone, along with stupid decisions in purchasing overpriced homes and ill-conceived mortgages that most bought into, caused the problems.
Do as Obama states, "it's time to take ownership". In other words, look in the mirror and realize who is to blame for all of the messes.
As for Sarah, she has my vote in 2012.
One of the appealing things about Obama, he has indicated that he get's the idea of "taking ownership". He gave that message to blacks. He spoke plainly that Europe must bear its share. He told our foes that we will defeat them as necessary. Despite all the hype and innuendo, my impression is that, whatever his ideology (meaning only how liberal he actually is), Obama is a pragmatist. I cannot predict the future, but I'm not an airy-fairy hoper either. But I do see him as a superior intellect. His elocution skills are just a reflection of that, not the sum of it. I prefer cautious optimism. Having been through the last 8 years, we all will be more vigilant and willing to discern hype from reality.
Thank you Newsweek for these great articles. I am now even more fascinated with Obama to the point of school-girl crush, and my sincere respect for McCain as a person grew ten-fold. I'm tearing up yet again as I read about this amazing drama that unfolded in front of our eyes this election season. Only one thing: Palin fiasco leaves a bitter after-taste.
I have enjoyed this series of articles. It was such an engrossing read, I couldn't put it down. And now, FINALLY, part 7! Thanks for posting this on the web!
"According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill." Federal law limits contributions to $2300 and that counts in kind gifts. This is a confession of illegal donations. Who was this "wealthy donor"?
YOU PEOPLE ARE EVIL! PURE DAGNASTY EVIL! Where the flip is chapter seven? I'm holding my breath here!
We'll listen to your "Africa/continent" drivel when you acknowledge Obama's "57 United States"! Can't figure out whether you are just partisan extremists or intellectually dishonest.
Maybe you should bother to read what snopes an urban legend site has to say about the 57 states comment.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/57states.asp
If you watch the comment video where he said it he said fifty then paused and said seven. He had visited 48 and was tired. It's called a verbal slip up. Palin is just stupid.
