So is newsweek a gossip rag now? I do not see any names as a source. Funny, I used to think newsweek "reported "NEWS" and real events at one time.

Did any "reporters SEE Palin Shopping? You guys were supposed to be "Reporting" on her.
I thought you guys would have noticed her Shopping for HOURS.
Oh, Sorry, you were all in Alaska digging for some dirt on her. No wonder you have no real proof for this story.

Too bad you did not want to investigate Obama ever. The British papers found Obies mistress and you let it slide. Just like Edwards Mistress! Vera Is Still on the island of Martinique living on Chicago Money, keeping hush hush and you guys make up stories about buying cloths. oooo, hard core!
Good going guys! Top notch "reporting"!

Name these British papers and tabloid rags don't count.

  • Posted By: ShyGuy @ 11/07/2008 5:51:42 AM

It is trash rag "articles" like this that remind me why I cancelled my subscription to your "news" magazine.
If I wanted to read gossip from "unnamed sources" who are such cowards that they can't stand up and make these accusations in public but instead act like school kids in the bathroom, I would be reading the tabloids.

Since Newsweek's name is on this article, what reporter from Newsweek witnessed Governor Palin making these purchases? What SPECIFIC stores were they? On what dates and times did she make these purchases? Were they made BY her or by someone on behalf of the GOP and given to her to wear? This gossip said the Governor bought cloths and shoes for her husband and children. When and where did she do this? Again, did she buy the items or did the GOP buy them for her family to look presentable at campaign functions? The campaign did ask her family to appear at campaign functions so its their responsibility to provide them wardrobes. She isn't worth $200 million like McCain's wife or $5-10 million like the Obama's. She doesn't wear hand made English shoes at $700 a pair like Michelle does nor do her Daughters get $10,000/yr dancing lessons like Obama's kids.

Since this coward making these accusations says they're like "hillbillies looting every Neiman Marcus from coast to coast" exactly which stores did they "loot" and for how much money in merchandise? Where's the evidence since if they made purchases at any stores there would be receipts yet your report of these accusations produced NOT ONE SINGLE receipt to back up these charges.

Isn't it funny criminals like Rezko are presumed innocent til proven guilty but Newsweek convicted Gov Palin without A SINGLE SCRAP of EVIDENCE?
The source of this story also claims she didn't know Africa was a continent.
DO you REALLY believe that? Her IQ is about 110, only 3 points less than JFK who had an IQ of 113. Yet you accept a source that says something so patently ridiculous as that she doesn't know that Africa is a continent?
Get real. She used to work in broadcasting, reporting sports. Sports go on all around the world in every country. Even if she never went to school, she would have learned about the various nations on the African continent via reporting on WC Soccer or Golf.

So those statements prove your source is a complete liar.

Whether you like her political beliefs or not, it doesn't give you the right to disparage her intelligence. It wasn't Gov Palin who said we have 59 states, it was Obama. It wasn't Gov Palin who didn't even know who was President when the Great Depression occurred or that there was no TV to discuss it with the people on because TV wasn't invented yet, it was Biden. Those errors were witnessed by 10's of millions of people while the alleged statement about Africa and NAFTA were witnessed by one or two people if they happened at all, which a doubt.
Its the responsibility of the news media to report certifi

    • Posted By: dsamsil @ 11/07/2008 8:04:18 AM

Ahem where did you hear her IQ reported? From internet ads?

Actually the rumors are that her IQ is 83 in High School. Also these were embedded newsweek reporters that were told not to report these details until after the election. Even Fox reporters are confirming these things. Also Palin didn't deny the Africa as a country story.

In the realm of risk, unmanaged possibilities become probabilities: These data breaches and thefts are due to a lagging business culture. As CIO, I'm always looking for ways to help my team, business teams, and ad hoc measures of various vendors, contractors and internal team members. A book that is required reading is "I.T. WARS: Managing the Business-Technology Weave in the New Millennium."
We keep a few copies kicking around - it would be a bit much to expect outside agencies to purchase it on our say-so. But, particularly when entertaining bids for projects and in the face of challenging change, we ask potential solutions partners to review relevant parts of the book, and it ensures that these agencies understand our values and practices.
The author, David Scott, has an interview here that is a great exposure: http://businessforum.com/DScott_02.html
The book came to us as a tip from one of our interns who attended a course at University of Wisconsin, where the book is in use. It has helped us to understand that, while various systems of security are important, no system can overcome laxity, ignorance, or deliberate intent to harm. The real crux of the matter is education and training to the organization as a whole ??? and a recurring schedule of training ??? in building a sustained culture and awareness; an efficient prism through which every activity is viewed from a security perspective prior to action.
I like to pass along things that work, in the hope that good ideas continue to make their way to me.

EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT Christian Taliban (and your imams including Dr. James Dobson), Muslim Taliban (and your imams), homophobes, racists, and elitist republicans in general. You are in the minority. Even manipulating the vote-counting machines was not enough to deny real Americans their voice. YOUR OX HAS DONE BEEN GORED!!

Sooo glad the Barack won..John McCain is a decent man but belongs to a bygone era.
He lost credibility by picking Palin..a hillbilly of the worst variety.
Cannot imagine what they're thinking of up there in Alaska......do yourselves a favour and DUMP her.

      • Posted By: chris76543 @ 11/07/2008 6:48:02 AM

I have a feeling Alaskans quietly deal with their own situations. Palin has shown a side nationally that she didn't show to Alaskans (like shopping at Neiman/Saks vs the second-hand store) - she'll do what is needed to keep the facade, but it appears the VP run went to her head and she lost control. Alaska can keep much secret, but that's not the case with national issues in the real America (where everyone has to work, and pay taxes/live on a budget).

  • Posted By: chris76543 @ 11/07/2008 6:41:36 AM

to Monique - you ask if Newsweek people SAW Palin shopping! She doesn't deny shopping - only said the clothes would get donated. Golly Gee, Get real. The only thing "they" deny is that low level staffers charged stuff for her (presumably when the main credit line was tapped). The truth will come out. The thing we can count on is infighting within the NeoGOP - they won't tell anything that's not true, though they'll withhold facts if they wasnt Palin in 2012 - - you Betcha!

  • Posted By: chris76543 @ 11/07/2008 6:36:50 AM

The response is typical - dodge and evade. $150K was really spent, and there's no reason for staffers to lie about charges on their cards. Caribou Barbie shows herself as self-centered. The truth will be known AFTER an audit. Palin/aides blame the media for trash talk, but Palin gives them too much to talk about - nightly comedy shows and SNL pick it up too - Palin thinks everyone is wrong except herself.

An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

A Palin aide said: "Governor Palin was not directing staffers to put anything on their personal credit cards, and anything that staffers put on their credit cards has been reimbursed, like an expense. Nasty and false accusations following a defeat say more about the person who made them than they do about Governor Palin."

To monique-o - from the tirade obviously aren't aware that this was leaked by the McCain campaign itself and first reported by Fox News (GOP friendly media). Sorry - we Democrats nor the "liberal media" can take credit for this one. We didn't have to spend any time or money to investigate- it was handed over free of effort. In case you didn't get the memo - it's the GOP that's trying to slime Palin. Your party is is waging its own civil war. Wake up and smell the coffee.

    • Posted By: moniqueO @ 11/07/2008 3:38:43 AM

      Jealous LIBERAL!

No one really liked McCain as the pick, we were stuck with him. Everyone was just going to just be voting AGAINST Obie. Until Palin was chosen. Palin was the only one that brought everyone together and enthused about voting.
The Libs know this so they make up stories and lies and try to convince people if they repeat them enough times that the stories are true. Typical Stalinist move. or was that the Nazis?

Sorry, Media sliming just not working!

You say the stories came from inside, name the person talking this trash and find out what their motive is and get back to me. I am sure it is not a true GOPer, because the stories are made up lies. Whoever is "leaking" this stuff is lying and the "reporters" don't give a rats ass if any of it is true.
A reporter on the trail w/Palin said none of this Ignorant about the countries stuff was true and saw none of this behavior from her. The reports of her not knowing about Africa was a total Lie and now everyone thinks it is a true story. ESPECIALLY the Liberals, like you, because the want to believe she is stupid.
Kind of like the she was burning books story. I have Lib friends that totally still believe it. They don't care when the facts are found to be a different story, they have moved on to a different lie they want to believing.

Gee, Palin looks to be over qualified to be a Republican VP. She has the graft, theft, corruption, humiliation, and stupidity part down pat. Must have learned it from Convicted Felon, Ted Steven and Gee W. Bush.

  • Posted By: darryl_bush @ 11/07/2008 1:17:16 AM

Gee, she seems over-qualified to be a Republican Senator from Alaska. She has the graft, fraud and corruption part down so well. Did Ted Stevens teach her all this directly?

  • Posted By: something_a_miss @ 11/07/2008 1:13:21 AM

oh my goodness, this has been such an amazing read so far, sorry not to dive into the heated debate, but wow! this really humanizes everyone involved... well, with some exceptions. There is this really beautiful display of emotion and ego crashing together. Thanks Newsweek!

  • Posted By: volfly @ 11/07/2008 12:41:15 AM

This so-called "rising star" of the GOP (what is left of it) tumbled right out of the sky just after she stepped off that "PLAIN" in Wasilla! Huge threat? Um...don't consider someone who thinks Africa is a country threatens anyone dear, not anymore! You'll have to wish upon another rising star.

It's the rants that really turned me off of McCain in the first place. I totally respected and admired him.....until the GOP took over. After the primaries his campaign had an air of a bunch of pretentious boys sitting around and trying to decide how to win the game. That's what it was to them...a game to won. There wasn't a lot of inspiring or from the gut convictions displayed. McCain was used and taken over by the GOP campaign and you and tell now with all the throwing of folks from the same team under the bus tactics. McCain made me cry at his closing speech. That was the McCain that they should have let run for president......they generated a silly fraternity machine that I felt left out of. Obama didn't appear to be taken over by his staffers.

It's a shame McCain's people would not let Palin speak after the concession. I'd have loved to see her launch her 2012 campaign.
Where do you think those "lost" clothes went? I guess those won't be "donated to charity".
Let's watch her appoint herself to Ted Steven's seat (assuming Alaska actually elects a proven criminal).

    • Posted By: Previous Question @ 11/06/2008 11:24:24 AM

Alaska changed the law governing the replacement of a sitting Senator back in 2004, after then Senator and Governor-Elect Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter to replace him. Proposition 4 required that the Governor now call for an election to happen 60 to 90 days following the resignation or death of a sitting Senator. This means that Governor Palin can call for a special election and run for the Senate without giving up her governorship during the campaign.

      • Posted By: lexi97701 @ 11/06/2008 11:31:38 PM

Well that's good news, at least she can't just appoint herself!

    • Posted By: lexi97701 @ 11/06/2008 7:02:26 PM

You've guessed her plan exactly, Alaska and US senate look out. Eyes open wide folks, lets not let her get anywhere NEAR that Oval Office!

i take offense to that "hate-filled libs" non-sense. One of my very best friends is a Rep and i feel bad that her delusions about Sarah Palin didn't pull through, but i certainly do not hate her, nor anyone else that believes in Republican values. i don't know if the article is true or not, but I did find the comment about the "Wasilla Hillbillies" hilarious!

  • Posted By: DeeInHouston @ 11/06/2008 10:28:32 PM

God forbid Newsweek do any research into this drivel. As usual, they print gossip, and it will come back to bite them in the ***. All of the hate-filled Libs out there? Buying it hook, line, and sinker.

This does not surprise me one bit. I mean this is the woman who apparently does not know that Africa is a continent. Yikes. Check out this debate about Palin on this brand spanking new site called YOUSPAR.com. You get to debate other users in real-time in a structured debate. Pretty darn cool. Good luck with the site.

Anyone who thinks that Palin was not a drag on the McCain campaign has got to be kidding themselves. I don't know if this postmortem will impact her future with the GOP? Probably not. People in this country have a short attention span and are more concerned with star power than intellect and skill. I mean can someone tell me how a college educated woman could not know for certain the number of continents or that Africa is indeed a continent and not a country. Ay yay yay. Check out this debate on YOUSPAR.com. This is a brand spanking new site where user debate in real-time. Pretty cool.

How are we going to keep Palin out of the Senate? The Alaskans reelected Stevens after his conviction.
