    It's seems scary how calculating he is and even scarier that he is aware of his ability. I hope he does not abuse this power to manipulate people. It is better to get to the top with dignity, hardwork and integrity. I can't understand people when they pander and fawn over someone...but I've always liked the underdog.

    E-caza, you bring up some disturbing issues. Especially, for me, the re-legalization of partial birth abortion. This is where they deliver all of the full term baby except the head and the suction out the brain. The Freedom of Choice Act would be another attrocity that Mr. Obama helped to create. Freedom of Choice sounds so nice, but what it really means is we tax payers pay for abortions, even if we don't believe in it and minors can get abortions without parental consent. Does it bother anyone that a 12-year old girl might be able to get an abortion without her mom there to help her through the mental and possible physical damage?
    Listen to some of the 911 calls from abortion clinics on U-tube if you think that this is a totally safe procedure.
    This is why I fear for America. Not just because Mr. Obama is inexperienced but because he places so little value on a child's life just because we can't see their face yet.

      Just a clarifying note: thanks to the Hyde Amendment, very few taxpayer funds have ever been used to pay for abortions (I believe the exception is a few states where state funding still allows payments for abortions for low income women, and exceptions where the mother's life is in danger).

      Which for me has always raised a question: I used to hear all this moaning about welfare and how poor women just wanted to milk the system for welfare cash by having tons of kids. But if abortions cost $500+ each and birth control is (seemingly) impossible to obtain due to the expense and abortions aren't funded by Medicaid, is it appropriate to say that this is what poor women "want" instead of this is what they "get"?

      Just curious. I've never seen a good exploration of this issue.

      The reason there are so many abortions according to statistics is that it is being used as a form of birth control, why then when we all think it is a horrible thing can' t the conservative movement support the use of birth control?

        Because the anti-abortion movement isn't about pro-life at all. It's about punishing women for having sex. It's about controlling women.

        Many on the socalled pro-life side get abortions in secret. When 99% of abortions were illegal these same pro-life people were the ones that took their daughters to a back alley abortion if she got pregnant by a black man or if it was the preacher's daughter and she refused to have a shotgun wedding.

          Dear dsamsil, You must not have been exposed to the same pro-life people I have been exposed to. When I got pregnant before I was married they didn't judge me. They rejoiced for me, I was the one who was ashamed. When I miscarried my second child they wept with me. And when I was terrified I would lose my third the same way I lost my second they counseled me. I've also seen them accept girls who have aborted their babies with open arms and words of comfort. I thank God for the Women's Care Center because even if you make a decision they don't agree with they will still offer you comfort after making your choice. I do support the use of birth control. But abortion isn't birth control. And most of the time it is done for convenience or fear of having a child with abnormalities, not for saving the mothers life. Why should anyone, even your mother, get to decide your life isn't worth living? Why can't your life be put on hold for nine months so your baby and a childless couple can have a chance at a the first and third stated unalienable right in the Declaration of Independence? LIFE, liberty, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPINESS. I believe Mr. Obama was elected because times have gotten too inconvenient. He isn't interested in protecting the smallest and weakest among us and that makes me sad.

            I agree, abortion should not be used as birth control but sadly it is. Planning when to have a child by using contraception is a much better alternative.

            Well, bottom line is that both sides of this issue are extremist views. There seems to be no middle ground in this arguement. When someone can figure out the middle ground, then we may get a solution.

              I know I'm being redundant here but we can plan when to be pregnant by using birth control and that would reduce abortions substantially. Heck it took an act of congress for insurance companies to cover birth control for women but they were right there to pay for Viagra! Go figure.

      There is no such thing as partial birth abortion. It's a made up term.
      Dilate and Extraction is performed for the following reasons.
      Reason 1. Fetus is dead. Do you want the mother to go through hours of labor up to a day to give birth to a dead rotting fetus after months or weeks at the shortest of knowning it?

      Reason 2. Birth would cause risk of injury up to and including death of the mother. In such a case the fetus would already be dead or be dead during the labor along with causing injurty or death of the mother.

      Reason 3. The fetus wouldn't survive more then a few months or even days. An example would be being born without a brain. Other serious birth defects would be heart on the outside of the chest, no eyes, etc that would cause grief and anguish to the parents. Having the abortion allows the burial of the child and causes shortening of the grief.

      Oh btw the procedure is less ghastly and graphic then other procedures used in the final months of pregnancy to save a woman's life. Oh freaking funny those procedures are still done still legal and have been done for decades in Catholic hospitals. You know what they do? They go inside the mother's body and carve up the fetus. Dilate and Extraction allows an intact fetus to be presented to the mother so the mother can if she chooses have the fetus buried in a cemetary as well as grieve over the body.

      Maybe you should bother to examine the facts. Oh wait if you did you would be on the pro-choice side. The pro-choice side is actually concerned about abortions and lowering them. The pro-choice side has looked at the facts and determined that making abortion illegal would cause deaths to women, not lower abortions in the slightest but instead increase them.

        My great grandmother died early in the last century from a back alley abortion and my grandfather grew up without his mother. They had enough children to support already, it was really sad for him.

    Well, I for one, am very grateful that the American people see what I have seen all along. He is the best candidate for the job point blank period. I wish I could understand those who disagree. This country needs a new direction and it needs to be refocused. Finally someone who is familiar with struggle will be in a position to help the majority, not the elite few , who have untill now, mercilessly run this country with no real regard of the majority of it's citizens and I am so proud. I have nothing but faith and patience in this wonderful human being, and hopefully everyone else will wake up and realize that he is the only one with the vision and intelligence to do so.

    Now that Obama has won, let us see if he can handle a job that does not mainly consist of angling for a higher office.

    It will be interesting also to see how the media, that ensured Obama got away with just speeches against Hillary and then McCain, will now treat him. I was surprised to see Jeremiah Wright right there at Obama's victory speech stage on 11/4 night -- so Obama siedlined him earlier just to win the election. I am convinced Obama will be a big disappointment, just like Jimmy Carter.

If you had problem with the economy you got it by simply listening to your favorite form of media and seeing what you want. Unless you are a native american, you're ancestors came from another country to live here and enjoy the American dream, as mine did.(Scottish and German in case you care). I am 100% a US citizen. I love this country, but I loved it alot more before Bush/Cheney and their cronies started taking away rights the fathers of this country gave to us and fought for.       I'm sorry you're bitter and angry and from that standpoint, I understand your vote. Women are emotionally charged and most times, approach the world with that attitude. Obama is not going to be "great" as you hope and I only hope you are honest enough to recognize that when it happens. I heard on the radio this morning that they are already talking about confiscating all 401K plans and putting the money into social security. This is what you have to look forward to. I only wish you had looked closely at this inexperienced person before you voted for him and realized what he really is.....an empty suit.     Too bad, I like the article, until I could independently verify your "fact", since I'm a New Hampshire local.

    Obama is not a terrorist, nor is he friends with terrorists, which is something that can't be said for our current president who is in the very pockets and beds of terrorists. It was not Iraq that attacked us on 9/11. it was Saudi Arabians. You know, the ones with the oil, keeping the Bush family rich. No one flew anywhere that night, people stranded everywhere, except Bush's Saudi friends who got a free trip home without ever being questioned in regards to the terrorist attacks, so leave Obama alone. No politician ever keeps all of their promises. None. But he will try to do his best. WE need to support him and quit the bickering.

    Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

    Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.
    I know, I know. What about the president who took us i nto war and has no plan to get us out?
    The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

      I have simliar wonders about people who disagree with paying taxes:

      Do you like having roads to drive on? Do you like having parks for your kids to play in? Do you like drinking clean water? Do you enjoy your cholera-free life?

      Yes, some of our tax revenues are surely misspent (I personally am not excited about the war, while I do agree with the general concept of defense), but let us not forget how the fundamentals of our society are paid for - BY TAXES. And I'm proud to pay them, for my own benefit and for yours..

    I thiink some of you are forgetting what this country was built on and why we call it a melting pot. Secondly, the biggest problem we face isnt our president in this country its the hate that we create ourselves. You people cant even debate reasonably how in the hell are some of you suppost to come to any positive solutions if you cant even understand what they next one is saying and again, THIS COUNTRY is founded on the fact that we take all, and will make it work. We have been looked up to by most countrys and most countrys have been coming to this country for its oportunitys, untill BUSH, we are now worldly know as a bully, and nation builders and frowned apon by many countrys that us to call us friends. I think this President has some good points and bad and the only test for him is the test of time. I hope for the best but he does have alot of things to get past after BUSH... GOD BLESS AMERICA

    I fear that this is just the beginning. Many Americans(black, white, other ethnic citizens) fear that our RIGHTS will be slowly taken away, some by force, and some without knowledge. Other fears not addressed are truths that were not spoken of during the campaign that will now rear their ugly heads-socialism, controlled economy, and military outcomes. Please remember Hitler promised change and Germany was never the same. Obama is half white, let us not forget that.

      what you fear has already happened. acknowledge it and let's hope obama gives us a solution. it certainly seems more likely than 4 to 8 more years of the same party making the calls for us.
