    How He Did It
A riveting piece of journalism, I am a journalist myself and in awe of those 4 young reporters for their difficult task and great achievement. I spent most of last night devouring their story and just read it again this morning. Fantastic work. Sincerely, T. Eck

as a journalist you should be particularly concerned over the lack of objective and factual reporting by those of your ilk in the mainstream media including those in print.with respect to the presidential campaign and the obvios bias in favor of Obama - you guys were bought and paid for - now what? I think it is safe to say that the media has lost all credibility for truthful and objective reporting, and this piece illustrates it. The American people have a right to depend on knowing the whole story and the dereliction of duty by the press in this regard is unconscienable relative to this campaign. Enter Your Comment

In 2008 journalism died as the media and press who are supposed to vet and present the facts about the candidates did not follow through oon this responsibility as it pertained to Obama. We still know little about him though we know more than we needed to about JTP. Even the Washington POst admitted that they were biased in favor of Obama in their so-called reporting. A sad day in this country as it sets up what is to come.

  • Posted By: CDG1228 @ 11/09/2008 2:09:46 AM

Pres Elect Obama did not knock on JTP's door. He was in the neighborhood and JTP went up to him.

Nobody cared about JTP until AFTER Sen. McCain mentioned him 21 times in the final debate. After hearing about this "Joe The Plumber" everyone was curious to find out who he was.

JTP's life was not "torn apart". This information released was a part of public records. Nobody dug in his trash. Good or bad, this is what happens today in the world of 24 hour media, Internet, etc.

JTP was on every station giving interviews, giving stump speeches at McCain/Palin rallies, giving his opinion of the candidates. He put himself out there and was loving every minute of it!

He represented himself as someone who would be negatively affected by Pres Elect Obama's tax plan when the opposite was true.

JTP asked a question and he got his answer. The problem was that his question was not based on reality. It was a hypothetical that did not even apply to his present circumstances yet the McCain/Palin ticket tried to use him against Sen. Obama. Problem was (just like with Gov Palin) it only worked with "the base". Everyone did else did not fall for it.

I cannot call Barack Obama my president-he's a mantra for hate

This has been the most negative campaign I have ever witnessed. I have never seen anyone use so much venom and hate as a means to pursue power. Judging by actions vs. words, I will never think the same about liberals.

He sent the media after Joe the Plumber for asking a question and smeared Joe to the world. What happened to Jessica Hughes in Texas shows a pattern of shutting up the opposition with excessive force. Citizens are off limits.

    Until Obama's campaign:
I have never heard anyone defend a stupid politician by attacking a baby with Down's syndrome. I have never heard anyone defend a stupid politician by dissing a vet who couldn't raise his arms because they were both broken during his captivity in Vietnam; I have never heard anyone defend a stupid politician by smearing a pregnant teenager; then having the audacity to play the race card to defend his stance.

*****The hate should've stopped at Bush.*****

I'm saddened that Obama pursued "tolerance" with hate. I'm saddened that his taxation to benefit his lobbyists will be imposed heavily on struggling americans and hinder our opportunities and economy, it will infact be the same business in Washington. I don't know what all the fuss is about.

I am fearful of a man who hates America so much and has the audacity to call himself "Commander in Chief"; and will lead our troops in harms way. I am sorry to the world.

I am sorry that you can't take pride in the many achievements by women, minorities and immigrants that have happened in America after one generation. I don't believe that sound bite one bit from the international committee.

Hope and Change comes from within. The change comes by the people, not the politicians. And Obama is not my president. I no longer associate with liberals. Never thought mammals could be this narcissistic.

Did you witness the same campaigns I did? McCain is the one who brought poor Joe to the limelight by mentioning him 21 times in the last debate. Obama is not responisble for the media digging up the dirt on him and unfortunately there is a lot. Accepting that being the biggest power in the world requires some responsibilty to other countries since the globalization of the last 10 years is not hating your country.

      • Posted By: f688xt6 @ 11/05/2008 11:46:14 PM

I believe that the point was that Joe the Plummer should have been off limits as a private citizen. That is to say, who gave the Obama campaign the right to investigate a private citizen? It seems a little Stalinist to me (and i'm sure I will get a colorful response for that), but neither campaign has the right to do that to any private citizen. And that was coming from the party opposed to the Patriot Act due to "George Bush listening to our conversations" and invasion of privacy and such. It's hipocracy, and correctly called so. It makes no difference what side it is coming from. But political affiliation can easily blind those who are incapable of seeing the other side of the arguement.

        • Posted By: leepdx @ 11/06/2008 1:17:47 AM

The media is not controlled by anyone's campaign, they do it all on their own, stop with the conspiracy theories already.

          • Posted By: f688xt6 @ 11/08/2008 10:23:47 PM

It's not a theory. It is the same thing if any one of us decided to ask a question of any candidate and then had all your past dragged through the media, and have it mentioned. I mean, Obama was going door to door and Joe the plumber was out playing with his kid. So he asked a question? Is that not the right of every American? Can we not ask questions without our lives being torn apart on the 6pm news? And while the President Elect may not have directed the media to do such things, they did it for the same reason. To protect their candidate. Now, I don't think this is a partisan issue. I don't think that John McCain should have mentioned him so many times either, despite the intent of an everyday person as an example.

        • Posted By: maty @ 11/06/2008 3:41:28 AM

Then maybe Joe the Plumber shouldn't have made himself available to the media, gone on the campaign trail with Sarah, and so on...

Joe sure didn't seem to protest too loud! Complaining all the way to the podium...

    • Posted By: puppers @ 11/05/2008 11:43:06 PM

Pia1981, re-read carmenincali's comment again. He/she has summed up this campaign rather nicely. There was some question of why one would vote for McCain. Fear of a man (Obama) who is unfit to be president of the United States... One consolation to this whole mess of an election. I will get to say... "Don't complain, you're the one who voted for the America hating politician. He won't even pledge his allegience to the USA!!! What a guy!

Okay will do...thank puppers. I must have read the comment in a hurrry.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 11/05/2008 11:42:22 PM

The rebuttal was best said by President Obama himself:

To those who would tear this world down - we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security - we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright - tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope. For that is the true genius of America - that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow

Of course, you are going to get a lot of angry feedback for expressing your opinion. This is the paradox of free speech. Anyone can say whatever they want, no matter how hypocritical or mean it is. I respect your analysis, and your ability to write what you saw as the truth. I agree with some, but not all of your points. But the important thing is that you said what you wanted to say. So, when the hate starts flowing your way, just take it in stride and walk away from the computer. You know what you think and you know what you feel, and nobody can take that from you. And well written and well done!

If this article upsets you then I regret inform you as to the scores of volunteers who are continuing to support their vote for change as private citizens making the everyday adjustments needed to positively impact the environment and communities, and no, he is not Moses or God, love, he is Barack. The confusion is understandable though as each of these names is said be found in the Bible (Old Testament).....lol!

His chance to pull that ever present race thing, pull some quick maneuvers and play on the fact that most black americans and aliens would vote for him... Tax the hell out of the middleclass to give more to the government bilking recipients. Work hard and live the American Dream? Not Anymore! Sit back, slack off and take what hard working Americans break their backs for... everyday! The Obama dream! Osama Hussein once implied that... America will never be the same! The enemy will strike from within... And we have put who in power? Silly silly Americans.

First of all, muslim is not a race, it is a beleiver in the Isam faith. Secondly, his father is African, he is an American, therefore he is an African American. Third, he's a Christian. And fourth, who cares? He was the best candidate and, as John McCain stated, the American people chose him and he will be our president. By the way, it was revealed on Fox News today that Sarah Palin's aides were appalled to discover that she didn't know the countries participating in NAFTA and she didn't know that Africa was a continent--she thought it was a country. Can you imagine her at the helm if McCain had won and then croaked? Yikes!

I truly dont care about color. I was only commenting on the fact that is what most people are saying today. It has not been "Obama won, it's been " First black president". I just don't think that he will be good for this country. To be honest, I was not so thrilled with McCain. I only tried to choose the lesser of evils.

      • Posted By: 100%American @ 11/06/2008 1:33:53 AM

I agree...people didn't vote for Obama...they were simply voting against McCain.

        • Posted By: lumasmama @ 11/06/2008 2:11:39 AM

I think most of us who voted for Obama voted for a man with obvious intelligence, thoughtfulness, and integrity. To me, he seems to be a man who loves his family, who loves his country, and who knew he could inspire people not only to work for him, to vote for him--but, to work together, putting aside the inevitable petty differences and squabbles, for a country, for a world that echos more closely our values. I voted for Obama on my ballot, yes, but really, I voted for myself and my fellow countrymen and women, and our desire, our need, our ability, to create love in the place of fear. I think this is what Obama stands for, I know it is what he inspires in people, and what he asks of us. I felt it through the campaign, I felt it during his acceptance speech. We voted for Obama because our country has been too long without love, too long in fear. And if you want a solid example of it, just consider the boos that came from McCains crowd at the mention of Obama's name.... There was no booing in Obamas crowd. It was obvious in the faces in Obamas crowd: hope, inspiration, love...

Amen, sister! I second all of what you said. In addition, it is time for this country to grow up. United we stand, divided we fall. As a country, as a society, we have been in the process of falling for about the last decade, in particular. It is time to come together and unite for a better America for all, not the select few.

First off I'd like to say it's a wonderful thing for America to have our first African American President. However I'm very ashamed at the American People that they chose a man who isn't a Christian, who doesn't stand for God which let me remind you is what this country was found on. Without GOD we wouldn't be here nor have the things we have. Our country is in great danger having Obama as our President of the United States! Those of you that are Christians and voted for him...Shame on you! Anyone can promise anything but if they don't have morals then their not looking out for your best interest. Let me say to you Christians/believer's in or Lord Jesus Christ you better get on your knees and pray, pray that God will interveen Obama and steer him in God's direction so he can lead us in the right direction! If you don't have morals and God what do you have? Nothing! Christians you better keep your faith in God or else you will suffer and you will be held accountable as to why you voted for Obama.
This has nothing to do with Religion...everyone says that. It's what you believe. Let's get back to GOD!

What Hypocrisy !!!! Do Not I Repeat Do Not Bring God into your own personal venomous attacks
How can you say that you are happy that America has its first African American President in one breath and then seek to disparage his character by asserting he has no morals ??
I will never understand how it can be asserted that the Gentleman is not a Christian in one breath and then accuse him of being a great part of Rev Jeremiah Wrights Church....
And then go further in accusing him of being Muslim ??
Since you are such a devout Christian it behoves you to first look at the Teachings of Christ and see how he handles human frailities and weaknesses with compassion and Love.
You know it is persons like yourself that give Christianity a bad name and give others reasons to stay away from Christianity as a whole.
Why cant you shred your Partisan Cloak and get behind the New President for the Greater Good of the Country.
I am a Republican and i totally respect John McCain and wished that he was the one who had run for President 8 Years ago instead of the Incompetent Bush.
But that is another story, Bush did as best as he was capable of, which is albeit not a lot..but I am man enought to see that Barack Obama a Democrat has a greater vision for this country which transcends Party Politics and I for one will hope and pray that he succeeds in his task of lifting up the People and Economy of this country.
      God Bless America

      • Posted By: amarie @ 11/06/2008 7:35:05 PM

I'm not even going to go there with you on being Hyprocritical. But I will bring God or any other thing I want and say it into my, let me see how did you put it, "personal venomous attacks." I'm not attacking anyone but simply saying we need to search our hearts and now that he is our President be prepared for whatever. If he had morals then he wouldn't be for Abortion, Gay marriages, etc....read the Bible buddy, it's not biblical. And by the way I didn't accuse him of being Muslim.
Maybe Obama has a greater vision for this country, I sure hope so but it doesn't seem like it. We'll soon see. And I won't say I told you so.

        • Posted By: TheVigil @ 11/08/2008 9:43:42 AM

"read the Bible buddy, it's not biblical"

No one in this country is under any obligation to follow Christianity just because you do. Read the First Amendment. Trying to force other Americans to believe as you do is AGAINST OUR CONSTITUTION.

Go learn about our country before you judge!

        • Posted By: 4carol @ 11/07/2008 9:25:15 AM

He has morals, Annemarie, that's why he wants to help with education for abortion and young pregnants mothers. You must be too young, or you would know that reversing Roe will only take us back to back alley abortions because there will always be abortion, like it or not!! Also, if you truly believe in morals, you are not a war monger. God says "Blessed are the peacemakers", not the war mongers. You'll be all right, just sounds like you've got some growing up to do. And please try to stop your hate, it only gives Christians a bad name!

          • Posted By: KennySpeakingtheTruth @ 11/07/2008 11:00:36 AM

So we should like murder as well, because there will always be murder, We should like child molesters because there has always been child molesters. I can see why you voted for obama like the rest of the sheep. I didn't vote for him because he lied and spoke of empty promises that even if he had three terms he could not fulfill. Do you really think he is going to raise taxes on Oprah? Or himself? please! He is a politician in every sense of the word. He is not the great messiah. Wouldn't it be a shame if the First Black president was the only black president because he was not the best man for the job? He has already started to revoke his promises and he's not even in charge yet. I hope you enjoy his empty promises.

        • Posted By: Vivi @ 11/06/2008 8:50:11 PM

lady, you are a ball of gall. Abortion is not in the bible. No mention. Yes it existed then, too, but nothing. Neither God nor his Son ever address the topic, nor does it say anywhere that God believes life begins at conception. So... what is your argument here? And gay marriage is the other bone you think God would pick with humans? Seriously? Not genocide, manifest destiny, rape, child abuse, or an utter lack of love for each other?

Abortion and gay marriage are not, once more, NOT Christian issues! These are the issues of conservative televangelists who have forgotten their faith and depend on controversy and "us vs. them" divisiveness to fill their pews and coffers.

If you are, as you claim, a true Christian, I would put it to you to ask yourself why this hour finds you, not in a soup kitchen, a volunteer organization, or just spreading love through altruistic acts of random kindness and charity, but on the Newsweek website taking the speck out of the president-elects eye and ignoring the log in your own.

Why don't you go learn about the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and stop shoving your God into everyone else's life? It is utterly unconstitutional for you to advocate religiously-based policy in the United States.

Look for me in a about a week. I'll be the one drooling and ranting about my misunderstandings of what it means to be a Christian. Maybe we could start a club. The 700 club is already taken.
