Obama can create a new governing ideology for the West

Dutchman01:
We Republicans can never recover as a party until we come to the realization that all woes that have befallen us have been imposed on us by Democrats and their rad-lib media minions.
We must only believe the true facts supplied to us by anonymous emails.
We have to kick out all pseudo-Rs who feign to be moderates, and only admit right wing true believer ???good people???.
Until we commit to these truths, we are doomed as a party.
A 40 year republican
Sorry, but until republicans start to walk the talk and behave like real patriots (not just talk about it) and VOTE for the best policies for the country instead of:
1- voting for their wallet because of taxes advantages, which only works for the richest and actually is false for must Americans that end up paying higher ???everything??? like with Bush and the tax break disappeared very fast in real life.....
2- voting for one line issue like abortion or gays, because republicans had ample time for over 6 years lately and 20 years out of last 28 in power to do something about it. They won t simply because they use it to take fanatics to the polls and once they solve it their way, people will look then for ISSUES.....something they do not want! Besides, politics and religion should not mix and one majority group should not IMPOSE their religious beliefs to a minority group. A president should GOVERN for ALL AMERICANS of ALL religions. Republicans NEED to understand the simple fact.............There are many issues in the Bible that are closer to Democrats: helping the poor, the sick, children, elderly, NO-killings, NO-greed etc..but they do not talk about those OTHER Bible teachings..............
Also Republicans must stop thinking they belong to THE TOP CLASS ELITE and that the democrats are the POOR that are asking for handouts. That republicans are the one who WORK and democrats are living of republicans taxes, because it is simply NOT TRUE. The truth and we just saw it recently, is that the top companies are the one LIVING OUT OF WORKERS TAXES! 2/3 of U.S companies and 68% of foreign companies DO NOT pay federal income tax. In the last 30 years 600 BILLIONS have been transferred from the bottom 80% to the top 20% tax-wide. Look CORPORATE WELFARE on the internet and see for yourself!. So it is simply a slogan to have people that do not do research vote for republicans, luckily more people are opening their eyes now........
Republicans must stop the lies, smear tactics, character assassination, fraud, disenfranchisement approach to wining elections INSTEAD of having (and achieving) an INTELLIGENT and PROGRESSIVE agenda for the country and all Americans with an ???strategic??? vision for years to come. Not to come to WA to squander surpluses and benefit all the friends and cronies leaving in shame but with the pocket plentiful. Their promises are just forgotten once they get there in a questionable way or by the supreme court order. Their approach as recent as few days ago was still the same.........the American people responded loud and clear!
Above all they must stop the hate, divisiveness among people, towns, states.........Select candidates based on the BRAINS not on the appeal to read meat!
And the list goes on...but you get the picture (I hope!).
I think you need to recalibrate your sarcasm detector... "We must only believe the true facts supplied to us by anonymous e-mails" should have triggered it.
Glad somebody got it!
The republicans lost because their elected members of congress and the bush administration etc. did a terrible job of running this country. Furthermore, most of the RNC's platforms and policies have been narrow minded and ultra conservative. Most Americans are centrists/moderates, and if the republicans keep spewing forth this narrow minded neoconservative ideology they will never have a real voice in DC again. No I am not a liberal by any means, I have always been an independent that leaned towards the republican view points (smaller government fiscally responsible etc). But over the last few years or more, the party has taken on the narrow minded, fear mongering, right wing religious view of the country and I personally as well as my fellow Americans have grown sick of it. Most Americans, don't care what religion, race etc; all we want are stable jobs, economic and social freedoms that allow us and are families to lead a happy life.
There is a misconception that the American president makes big decisions that affect citizen's lives. In reality citizens make little decisions that affect president's lives. Obama has raised expectations that he will change the country. In fact, we have already decided we will buy as much as we possibly can on credit and forsake our debts when we run out of money. There is little any president can do about this. I think what we will find is that we will be just as disappointed in Obama as we are with Bush. We evaluate them as if they are kings who rule by decree. When in fact, everyone of us is a traitor to our country when we burn fossil fuels without restraint, borrow with abandon, and flee with the profits.
The President chooses to make, or to not make war.
If you don???t believe that has an impact on thousands of people???s lives, I suggest you take a trip to Arlington.
Actually, the congress decides this and also decides to fund it. It just so happens that the last session was too cowardly to do anything about it.
It's gonna be ok...really, it is--you'll see! Last night Americans showed that they're ready to move forward.
I hope you're right Summer.
That's impossible. Just the fact that he's slamming the door behind Bush and Cheney assures that he'll have a higher rating than Bush.
Ah, one could argue that Clinton and Kennedy were more conservative than the last two Bush's. We have seen flip-flopping between the philosophys of our two parties over and over. This is something that is cyclical throughout american history. America was founded on the idea of capitalism, free markets, low taxes, and the right to private property. I think what we are seeing is yet another flip as we try to hammer out our destiny without an Arch enemy to focus us. What today's president is credited for can really often be attributed to the work of a previous administration. Obama has a tough road ahead. Once he gets his head out of fantasy land and back into reality I think he is going to find that government will be very stubborn to change. Government has no product other than its process. To change process is threatening to the buearucrats that really run the country. Obama, like all other presidents, is a temporary employee. He has 4 years, maybe 8, then it is a guarantee that he is gone. We won't feel the affect of his legacy until well into the first term of the presdient that follows.
I also disagree when you state that protectionism is vanishing. We still see our competitors recieving subsidies from their governments as well as a practice in mercantilism. Look at Japan, scarce on domestic natural resources but they are able to out produce and outsell any country in the world save the US. Look at the EU, a political and economic cosolidation of power and money designed to protect political and economic interests in that region. Our own NAFTA to counter that threat. No, we are not seeing a decline in protectionism or a new world view on open markets, we are seeing nations staking out their territories in much larger chunks and integrating the political process into it. I think this article is naive.
You talk about our education system in need of retooling, while I don't exactly disagree, let's not forget that our system is open to all compared to other parts of the world where it is determined at an early age if one gets to go to University, this is why we attract so many great minds to our school systems. if you are talking about our K-12 systems then I would say that there does need to be some priorities that are reset, but most of those happen at home and if both parents work or don't value education then it doesn't matter what the government does. We are talking about a people and process issue not a money issue. You can't do the same things and expect different results and throwing money at programs just doesn't work if the fundamental values are not their to begin with. Poor energy efficiency is a crock too. In this country we have a value system that drives consumer demand for things, 70% of our GDP in fact. How can we sustain this and have energy efficiency? How can we have a planet support the people of this earth if everyone consumes like Americans? You can't. You would need 3 earths to do so.
The next terriost attack on US soil will destroy Obama, The Red states are not going blue when the election was 1.5-2 percent difference. This was not a land slide people, A good win yes. But in four years Obama will have a record to run on and if the economy is bad. He will be sunk . Then we will be talking about how red the country has become. People vote thier pocket book.
"The next terriost attack on US soil will destroy Obama,"
Just praying for that, aren't you? Sad. Your partisanship exceeds your patriotism.
" The Red states are not going blue when the election was 1.5-2 percent difference."
It was a 6% difference.
The party of Conservatism became the party of enervation, preserving the energy of the nation for the few.
The party of innovation is the party of conservatism, reclaiming the government for the people.
The confusion, exacerbated racial and religious bigotry, resulted in the modern Dixiecrat - Republican voting bloc and the Liberal - Democrat divisions that have divided this nation.
The self-serving entrenchment and corruption of politicians may have finally out lived the new electorate.
We may see a revision of the dreams of those who fought to establish this nation. It is not change, but the
inevitability of a democratic society regaining the civil liberties that level the playing field.
I agree Obama's election by it self is a milestone for America, It is interesting that one issue that got lost in the economic crisis was this countries standing in the world, which improved literally in the blink of an eye.
Obama's strength lies in his empathy, given his unique background touched and formed by so many cultures he has what very few have in terms of empathy. Everyone thinks they have it and would tell a legless man they understand how he feels because they once stubbed their toe and limped for ten minutes and really believe they understood the legless mans problem.
It showed in the Republicans often repeated "the economy is sound" as recently as 45 days ago, for them it is sound they have no problems but while they were repeating this mantra millions were falling below the poverty line and it only came to light when the economic problems reached Wall Street rising from the bottom up.
I don't think the American dream as I knew it will ever recover, but I do think Obama will provide the path for a new American dream, perhaps even better and it will include all Americans.
Let the new Millennium begin.
Great comment Randy Higgins. If you expect any president to keep their promises, you have been disappointed for years and will continue to be disappointed. Obama is only one man and I believe he will do his best to fix the problems that Bush has made for the last eight years. The republican party has had plenty of time and look at this country. I am certainly not impressed and republicans should be ashamed if they think that Bush has done a good job at keeping his promises. That man should had been impeached years ago. If anyone is a sucker, it is the people who voted for Bush. Change is coming and you better get on board or get left behind. The youth of this country is speaking out and Barack Obama is listening. Look out OLD republicans, because here we come!
That happened once before in my lifetime. My generation managed to; lose a war, increase drug abuse, lived far too extravagantly, destroyed the american family structure, mostly abandonded the religion of our ancestors, and produce children we didn't bother to raise. Turns out we were mostly wrong. Good luck to you.
Dutchman01, Bush ignored his experienced military and diplomatic advisers, and abdicated to the neocons who fantasized themselves into telling us that the Iraq war would be short and "pay for itself".
We are now saddled with $10 billion per month costs, a military that is bogged down there while it's at capacity and in jeapordy. Afghanistan is going badly, Pakistan is volatile, and Russia is presenting new risks.
What will we do other than pound the table when new problems arise?
Bush and his advisors had two terms. Voters observed that the Bush people were running the McC campaign, and understandably concluded that a new approach is necessary.
Succeeding through the gauntlet of the election, is one indication that Obama has the capacity to get through most.
My impression is that Obama will prove to be a pragmatist, with vision.
If we should have learned nothing else, we must have observed that things haven't been going well lately, nor have things gone as we were told they would. I'm ready to move forward.
I just hope we don't shoot ourselves in our own foot by narrow minded self-defeating opposition.

You're a strange kind of republican to support obama's "spread the wealth" and "make work" type government projects. This all reminds me of lbj's great society programs. I don't see them working any better this time around.
What about all the moderate republicans who came out for Obama? Them saying what they did, including being repelled by the propaganda machine, was just because they were duped by Soros and the other bleeding hearts?
As long as Rs keep trying to blame this event on others, the party will keep shrinking.

George Soros finally got what he wanted! I have a feeling that his influence is going to extend well beyond the campaign stage. Everybody was touting what a great campaign Obama was running. But he wasn't running it. It was running him. With enough money you can buy anything. You can buy extreme order. George Soros is going to continue coddling Obama through his presidency to make him look good. He will likely be in contact with foreign leaders, buying their cooperation and easing their fears. George Soros likely bought Obama an Army of advisors to answer any and all questions. Remember Soros is the financial genious that made his money off of the securities markets. He may have even had a hand in crashing the stock market to favor the Democrats just before the election. There is no way that the most unqualified presidential candidate in history got to where he did without such massive help. Some have speculated that after Obama won the Presidency that the media would turn on him and the honeymoon would be over but there is a broader agenda. Soros is buying up all of these newspapers that are endorsing Obama which is an attempt at Socialist propaganda state. He will likely retain his control over the large media networks as well. What is
the price for stoking Obama's ego? An agenda that makes George Soros the grand puppet master of planet Earth!
.....................................................These Far Right Republican types just do not get it...........America is becoming more politically astute and view their negative jive as something to avoid and look away from to find something better and more constructive for themselves and the Country. The Far Right is only about 20% of the population and people can see through their trickery that they must pull to come close to reaching any real majority....................The Hard Core Right Wing Reputlicans have had their days with the Bush Administration and America is now giving them the choice 1) Moderate and come to the Center politically or 2) Loose and stay out of office and on the back burner. America knows what is going on with the GOP Right Wing now!!!!!!!
And packing up a posse of Chicago cronies is somehow going to defray these concerns of ''corruption''in Washington eh Zakaria? Even you cannot be this dense. Stevens is in a too-close-to-call in Alaska. The crooked Murtha and Kanjorski were returned to the House in Pennsylvania. Dodd is staving off a federal grand jury investigation for corruption and holds his place as chair of the Senate Banking Committee as does Rangel, returned to the House from New York, who heads up the Ways and Means Committee, himself under a federal probe for corruption.
The Russkies have made their voices heard by immediately promising to send missles to their western borders. The Iranians have no plans to back down from their pursuit of nukes. The DOW dropped nearly 300 points on the news of Obamas victory. Already, the ''700 billion''is being peppered with pork demands, many of these from the ruling Democrat majority. If Obama is to work as the ultimate ''pragmatist''he must go up against his own party, and ideology and frequently. Opposition to free trade eminates from the Democrats. Greater government control of private economic destinies eminates from Democrats. Far-out ideas to dismantle the military and establish ''Departments of Peace''in an uncertain, quite dangerous world eminate from Democrats. Obama should move to shut out the Ayers/Kucinich-style liberals and leftwingers, embrace the minority Republicans, and get with the moderate blue-dog Democrats.[as FDR did]. This move would be most ''pragmatic''.
What Obama means to this country is that there is a SUCKER born every minute, and Obama had just proved it by spinning his lies to all of the brain dead voters who supported him. Now everyone, let's see this Obama work his Moses like powers and see him get our country out of debt, out of wars, out of other countries business, out of the United Nations, Out of NATO, out of NAFTA, let's see him create millions of jobs that pay over $100,000/year for all, give FREE GOVERNMENT Medical, Prescriptions and Dental CARE, FREE COLLEGE TUITION FOR ALL CITIZENS, FREE BAIL OUT MONEY TO TAXPAYERS FOR PERSONAL DEBT, let's see if Obama is going to lower fuel cost to $1.00/Gal, FREE VACATIONS FOR APPLYING FOR THE ABOVE PROGRAMS, Free government surplus supplies that are just sitting around in warehouses across the country, free access to all Congressional meetings, free night stay in the white house, free ride on air force one, a free tour at the NORAD site in Colorado, there are just so many things that Obma can do for all of us, if he can keep all of these campaign promises!!!!

The people have spoken. Time to move forward together.
Obama's favorite thinker is Emerson? That is the worst statement I have ever read about Obama. Emerson is grandious romanticism without logic.
This election is not about black or white. It is about Americans. And the Americans have spoken.
