USAF Retire, How can you be so stupid? He is our new president and we must support him, you as a "Retired Veteran" should see this. I voted for McCain, I support our new president. Don't be so ignorant. I also served in the Military as did my wife. God Bless our Country and God Bless our President.

  • Posted By: sallyanne @ 11/05/2008 5:34:50 PM

say what you may, but the guy will never be my president. What brought us to our knees, was things like nafta and other things, that Mr Clinton brought in to office, and passed. we are seeing the fruit of his great stay in office.
Well, this one will probably have more government, more welfare, and more taxes. Nope not my president. thanks.

You are absolutely right. People are too busy villifying Bush and believing everything that the media brainwashes them to believe. The problems we have been experiencing in this country didn't happen over night. Bush had to be the scapegoat for all of the mistakes that the "wonderful" Bill Clinton started!!! I'm so sick of the political correctness in this country. People need to stop worrying about offending the rest of the world and each other and grow some balls!!!! Well, now we will have to worry about losing the freedom that we take for granted in this country because of the need to be liked by the rest of the world!! Any President who wants to associate himself and meet with known terrorists, racists, and extremists to needs to be scrutinized!!!

      • Posted By: Hannah B @ 11/05/2008 6:03:19 PM

Yeh, cuz Bush's balls have gotten us to such a wonderful place in the world. OVER HALF of this country didn't like the place he brought us to. I really like that you are sooooo against scapegoating (see "wonderful" Bill Clinton comment). Political Correctness? We haven't been PC for the past 8 years. Nor have we had much freedom ... since the rightwing neocons hijacked them. THEIR WAY HASN'T BEEN WORKING ... WE NEED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT to get different results.

If we were living under a rock, it was to protect us from the fallout of Bush's horrible policies. Luckily, America came out and voted overwhelmingly for Obama. In fact, Obama got more raw vote and percentage than GWB ever dreamed of. Obama has a real mandate, while Bush had none.

Actually started with the Act of a peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter--first piece of legislation he encouraged to force lending institutions to loan in redlined (subprime) areas of cities or slums so the low class could get into homes they couldn't afford. Doomed us now and we all suffer from the Carter, Clinton, Black caucus (including Obama), Freddie/Fannie/ debacle. The house was built in a ramshackle manner by D's and was a house of cards that just "coincidentally" came tumbling down just when Obama was loosing the race for Pres. to McCain. How convenient.

I thought that I had lost all faith in the people of this country but I see there are a few decent people left after all.

Word my friend. GUARANTEE that any problems that arise in the next four years will be blamed on "Bush" policies and not "Mr Teflon"

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 11/05/2008 8:07:14 PM

Bush is an abject failure. That's why he has the lowest approval ratings of any modern president, including Nixon. He will go down as the worst president of the last century, at least.

        • Posted By: aprudhom @ 11/05/2008 8:34:15 PM

I guess it is better to have a radical, terrorist sympathizer as the leader of this nation then.

    • Posted By: dorf @ 11/05/2008 6:34:56 PM

Bush brought us much bigger government, a ruined economy, an unjustified war of occupation, no responsibility about paying for that war, deception, lies, destruction of the Justice Department's true role, denial of some of our most basic rights, incompetency, disrespect by our friends and allies overseas, antagonism ruining foreign relations all over the globe WITHOUT doing a thing for US security or stature, HUGE DEFICiTS, a devalued dollar, a staggering budget buried in red ink, a nation of people filled with fear and uncertainty,

The economy was the best it has been during the past 20 years under Bill Clinton. He is not the problem for you (the problem he had was one between him and Hillary). More jobs, more growth, more prosperity, good foreign relations, properly managed military engagements that ended appropriately and included our allies in the solution, Clinton brought much good to this country - something that really stuck in the craws of the Republican leadership.

Obama will be your president. He has been elected. His moral, ethical and intellectual superiority to Bush will bring us out of the mess Bush and his buddies the neo-cons created. If your income is less than $200k, you will pay less taxes, not need welfare, and government will run more efficiently while providing better services. Why would this bother you?

Sallyanne - you need to read more, broaden your news sources and learn about the possibilities - not the negativities you so fondly hang onto. This nation is only great when we work together. The nastiness in your tone indicates that you don't want things to go well for Obama. That's a shame. If it goes well for him, it will for us too.

If you love this country and all its people, you will wish Obama success and Godspeed.

      • Posted By: schlitzsky @ 11/06/2008 3:37:15 AM

I believe you are incorrect. I received a 14% payraise in the military in 1982 from REAGAN. Never saw over 6% from any Democrat Prez.

YOUR PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA UNLESS YOU PLAN ON LEAVING THESE "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" What has just happened is bringing true the Constitution and that is that ALL MEN are created equal, the best man won the job (by 7.4 mill voters) I must add his key address is to finally UNITE the USA to be one country not one divided by our race, party affiliation, sex, or religion GROW UP and join in YOUR country's proudest moments now and in the future...CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!!!

      • Posted By: chuck76 @ 11/06/2008 12:51:34 AM

I think it's very interesting that everyone keeps quoting the consitution (all men are created equal) when Barak Obama is one of the largest supporters of abolishing the constitution and constantly votes 85% of the time against it. So much for backing him with the very document he wants to destroy.

      • Posted By: wilsint1 @ 11/05/2008 6:28:15 PM

BUSH A SCAPEGOAT!!!...What planet are you from...Clinton has been out of office for 8 years Man up Bushes policys are his own not due to anyone else need I bring up we still have not found ANY "weapons of mass destruction" in IRAQ yet!!! I dont think we will and I would stretch to say thats why Collin Powell left being that BUSH had him go before the UN and verify that indeed there were WMD's in IRAQ and we must act on it OH but lets not forget that that little boo boo cost the american taxpayers mills and mills daily...put blame where it is due and lets get moving into the future...

        • Posted By: mariethomson @ 11/05/2008 9:02:13 PM

Bush will go down in history as a fine president and one who kept Terrorists busy on their side of the world. The fact that we have had no attacks since 9/11 is the biggest compliment to this great man! There is only one reason for a federal government and that is the defense of those living in its borders. That is why nation states were formed. Infrastructure on the common dime is a nicety and a good economy is a plus (we've had the best under Bush until ACORN and the black caucus--including Obama--force the lenders to loan to those who couldn't afford housing--defaults--house came crashing down and Obam had the audacity to blame Bush).

          • Posted By: aprudhom @ 11/05/2008 11:01:59 PM

I for one will be forced to move off shore and take my business with me. Hate to fire all those American high tech guys who work for us at six figures each and every one! Maybe some of them will come with me to avoid being taxed to death. Currently looking at other countries that have less business taxes--not hard to find since we already have the highest in the world and Obama wants to raise it.

This country will always be divided when it comes to ethical and moral issues such gay rights and abortion. It will only be one nation under God when everybody realizes God is opposed to both. Read the Bible, it's God's spoken Word.

        • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 11/05/2008 8:08:41 PM

I can read the Bible and find any justification I want for any policy I want. it's full of contradictions. That's because it was written by humans and not some supreme being.

By the way, there are some 2000+ references to poverty in the Bible and maybe one or two on homosexuality.

        • Posted By: wilsint1 @ 11/05/2008 7:21:46 PM

tama then you should know in the word it tells us that we should pray to change things so then pray that the moral divide wont be divided and we will all see things together including abortion and same sex relationships but we must first start somewhere race and religion I think is a good place to start...

    • Posted By: soldierrayman @ 11/05/2008 11:22:37 PM

Sallyanne - I voted for McCain, but this is a DEMOCRACY! You are still an American, and owe the people's choice for president your loyalty and support. Remember Abe Lincoln's words: "A house divided against itself cannot stand". The republicans can try again in 2012. Get over it!

Unless you are plannig to leave the country he is YOUR PRESIDENT ...BARACK OBAMA won the election on the terms of the american people (by 7.4mill I must add) this is not a race thing this is about building back the country that we all love...give credit where it is due and end the hate...unity is the key ladies and gentlemen it is the answer....

WE will not accept Obama as our president. He is a Marxist/communist/islamist and probably not even a natrual born citizen. We who are afraid of him or concerned about him constitute nearly half of the population of the United States and we will comprise the loyal opposition as the Brits call it--those who use prods and sharp objects at every whim and turn of this slick talking used car salesman. He will not know a moments peace and I hope he soon utterly fails--when the terrorists attack because he is perceived as weak you will see what I mean. Also, Israel has just been forced to attack Iran sometime between now and the election because they see how chummy Obama is with Iranian leaders--so chummy he wants to sit down to tea with them wihtout precondition.

Good! Over half of this country didn't like what YOUR PRESIDENT did TO us not for us. I can't thank you enough for all of this debt you brought to us. I just can't tell you how much I appreciate what you've done to OUR constitution. May your kind of president stay out of power for a very, very, very long time.

  • Posted By: faiq.shirzad5642 @ 11/06/2008 3:31:01 AM

I am confident enough that Obama will carry on his duties and obligations as a president who kept all his compitators far behind. However, the pesimism is that there can be a big difference between words and actions. I strongly hope he can of at least a bit servince towards Afghanistan current crisis and help the government of Afghanistan to firmly stand on its feet and this is possible only if he does stick to what he vowed during his presidency combats.

Dear Dort, Please don't quote Europe. Some of these countries are a mess when it comes to healthcare. I run a whole business that moves the wealthy Europeans and the Canadians to the US for medical care. The wealthy in Europe refuse to wait for services and BUY their medical care in the US. Also, look at Norway, Denmark, etc. The tax rates is 67% for EVERYONE- the countries are suffering labor crisis as the brightest citizens are leaving and looking for employment in UAE. Get real- Don't talk about the world until you have actual experience about it.

    • Posted By: aprudhom @ 11/05/2008 8:02:13 PM

I agree, and now that Obama is president we may suffer a similar fate since his motto is to "spread the wealth". How else do the citizens of this country think he is going to accomplish that goal if it isn't by raising our taxes and turning this country into a socialist society. People think things are bad now, they ain't seen nothin' yet!

      • Posted By: ikie12pts @ 11/05/2008 9:31:52 PM

Adprudhom, if you're concerned about socialism, exactly what is it called when the American working people bail out our lending institutions to the tune of $700 BILLION dollars? That happened under the Republican's last week. SOCIALISM OF THE TALLEST ORDER. That's right out of Karl Marx!

        • Posted By: aprudhom @ 11/05/2008 10:41:58 PM

Well, maybe obama should have spread his wealth and gave back the money that Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac gave to him so that he could help bail out the mess that Clinton started when he was in office, but then again nobody seems to remember that.

Obama also needs to spread the wealth from his massive book earnings. Is he included in the rich (over $250000 a year)? Will he pay more taxes? Nope he'll find loopholes just like all the other elites.

Now that Obama has won, let us see if he can handle a job that does not mainly consist of angling for a higher office.

It will be interesting also to see how the media, that ensured Obama got away with just speeches against Hillary and then McCain, will now treat him. I was surprised to Jeremiah wright right there at Obama's victory speech stage on 11/4 night -- so Obama siedlined him earlier just to win the election. I am convinced Obama will be a big disappointment, just like Jimmy Carter.

I see from reading some of these comments many people still want a monocromatic America. If you noticed the conventions one was monocromatic one was not. The one that was not won the election. America is only as strong as the people within its borders. the monocromatic party want everyone to do the work and they just sit back and enjoy the benifits. You have to look at the president elect. If you don't go by the historic defination of being "black", one drop of black blood, he is just a white as he is black. Looking at it from one point of view he is a product of a decendant of someone who came to America by choice and someone who could have been brought to America by force. Either way qualified to serve because of his education, vision and love of country. Lets just stand up and see what happens. I

Ummmm... dipsh*t, "Looking at it from one point of view he is a product of a decendant of someone who came to America by choice and someone who could have been brought to America by force."

Obama's dad came here from Kenya to go to college at the University of Hawaii, not as a decendent of a slave.

  • Posted By: spicegirl @ 11/06/2008 1:43:16 AM

You can always identify Republicans as they specialize in character assassination. I hate having to paint that party with a large brush, but whenever I listen or read what conservatives have to say they seem to portray small mindedness and petty politics.

To the person lambasting Obama about volunteers getting half pay, if there is any truth in this which I doubt, most of Obama???s volunteers are just volunteers giving freely of their services. To the person with a family member in Iraq, stop playing Chicken Little and spreading propaganda that the sky will fall in because Obama has been elected president. This shows a lack of intelligence and a low level of education.

One of the major problems with this economy is the Republican Party who believes ???experience??? or ???connections??? will always cut it, and so they keep putting a dunce in the White House and was hell bent on putting another dunce in there in this election. America will now have an educated president who has been equipped with the tools to govern. An experience man can only fall back on what he knows and in many instances lacks the foresight and aptitude to deal with novel situations. McCain and the melt down was a case in point.

We now have a new president who has pledged to bring change. The people have voted and he has been given the mandate to bring about the change the country needs. We should all rally and support him and not judge him before we have had a chance to assess his performance.

  • Posted By: joelavenido @ 11/06/2008 1:31:10 AM

The man elected to the Presidency said during the campaign that he does not know when a human being starts to have human rights. How can one govern from that starting point of ignorance? Governing is about protecting human rights; to do it successfully, you have to know where they come from, and when they begin.
The President-elect has already failed that test miserably.

I'm working white middle class and 45 years old. One of the many reasons I voted for Obama is that I know he will fulfill his commitment to the military he repeated over and over during his campaign. Unlike McCain whose voting record when it comes to veterans is horrible!! Even DAV gave him a D grade. My son is a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corp on is second deployment in Iraq and he is looking to go to Afghanistan next. He is glad Bush will be out soon and we both have faith in Obama's decision making along with Colin Powell.

I dont believe anyone who wants to take a shot at President Obama makes more than $200,000 dollars a year; fool, he trying to help you and your uncooth friends and family, dont let your guilt from past aggressions against minorities in America blind you to the fact; President Obama is here to assist the masses( all colors, backgrounds, cultures) not the chosen few, because in the long run they may be annoyed but this wont effect them like the economy crashing didnt effect them. Alot has changed in America since JFK,Black America wont allow that to happen again.

    • Posted By: chuck76 @ 11/05/2008 10:44:11 PM

Assist the masses? What you have just described it complete and total socialism. Government control in absolution. It is not up to the government to spread the wealth around. I am from the lower middle class and, sure i would love to get loads of money from the government for doing absolutely nothing but how is that going to help keep people from the dependancy of welfare? It's not up to the government to give out handouts. Supply jobs and education... not welfare and taxes on the rich. The people need to help themselves and stop relying on the government to do it for them. What the government gives with one hand, it takes away with the other.

      • Posted By: Snorkeldorf @ 11/05/2008 11:30:15 PM

Why does "help the masses" equate with "welfare for nothing" in your mind? Why can't you associate "help the masses" with providing jobs, affordable health care, and increased educational opportunities? "The masses" in this country used to be hard-working, decently paid, blue-collar workers. What's wrong with restoring the prominence of "the masses" in our society?

        • Posted By: chuck76 @ 11/06/2008 12:57:00 AM

Because that wasn't what Obama was saying. He wants to share the wealth by taxing the wealthy.

    • Posted By: chuck76 @ 11/05/2008 10:25:08 PM

It's not up the government to spread the wealth around. I am in the lower middle class and, sure i would love to get loads of money from the goverment for doing absolutely nothing but I believe that I could never advance if I did. Obama is a socialist and he wants to take away the free enterprise that our country was built upon,.

      • Posted By: linzolinzo @ 11/05/2008 11:25:13 PM

Chuck76, I suggest you read some of Obama's policies and actually listen to his speeches. What he wants to do is provide the jobs and education to create opportunities for all that you talk about, not restore the welfare state in this country. He wants to bring back a government that protects people by supplying the things they cannot do on their own: have access to clean water and air; protect the planet from further damage; and hopefully rescuing them the next time a hurricane or tornado strikes instead of letting an entire city drown while the world watches in horror.

  • Posted By: jaguar95 @ 11/05/2008 7:49:27 PM

I do also hope that Mr. Obama can follow through with what he has promised. I was disappointed that McCain did not win. To the newly elected president, lower my taxes, help my elderly mother, protect my son who is in The US Coast Guard, and most of all, make it so that I know the correct choice was made.
And to Senator MCCain, I know you are still in there working to see that these promises will be kept. TThank

    • Posted By: Legendary @ 11/05/2008 8:14:34 PM

Why would you think Obama would not keep any promises??? Obama has a lot on his back now being the first African American president. He will be judged like no other so yes he will try and keep every promise he made to the people. He already mentioned he will not be perfect but will do what he can so what else do you need?? McCain has experince sure because of age. McCain is older than Obama so yes he should be wise. Though to think because your older makes you better is not right. Parents have learned from there childern. A teacher can learn from a student! Experince proved nothing if not applied! If that was the case Bush should of done well esspecailly after the fact he has had two terms and a father that was president before him.

McCain has shown class in the end though and I have to respect that! His choice as a VP had no experience either but people felt she can learn down the line. What makes her better than Obama then?? No one is too experience being a president for the first time just like anything new! Clinton was young as well as JFK! These people done a good job spite youth. Though some look at color though Obam is educated and seen both sides of the fence being bi-racial some can't except this fact! Give him a chacne first. he won because we were voting united and not divided! Old and young voted for him. Wise and unwise also! All races matter! Non better than the other! How would experince mattered when we can't get division solved?? We fight wars together and die together. We share this planet together. If it was to go we all go with it! No race would matter and should matter! GOD made us. We are his childern. We have good people and bad people in all people! Obama is needed in this time. I feel he will do a fine job because he has wise people around him and a wise VP. Also people love him. I have not seen something like this since JFK and MLK! GOD Bless!

Why do you say "he will try to keep every promise he made to the people". He has already shown that he only keeps promises that are convenient for him at the time. This IS the same candidate that said he would use public campaign funding. Please don't compare him to JFK or MLK, those two were true inspirational leaders., Obama is a dog turd compared to those two.

ok so honestly is he really the first african american president? hate to be the bearer of bad news black america but he is 50% white and 50% black. so maybe he`s just another white guy with sort of a tan, and yeah a messed up name.

He is may have a mixed heritage but he is still black. I hate when people say he is half white as though they need to defend the black half.

Obama has the right to 'self-identify' as he put it, and chooses to call himself a black man. In matters of race, if we believe in equality, the differences are primarily cultural anyway so who cares what % of genes are from which racial group (unless perhaps you're speaking with your doctor about medical issues)

I am Canadian & I am so sorry for all of you on here for having to read what concerned Canadian has written. I swear we are not all that dumb here in Canadaland *lol* I love being a Canadian & everything that it entails . I was also rooting for Obama to win because I think he was the best person on the ballot . I hope he does many wonderful things for America ( I could be wrong) but am optimistic that he will do very well for himself. I hope one day for the USA to be a strong & proud country again & to one day be undevided.

Have a wonderfull life may god bless you all :)

Now that the Majority of Americans have elected President of "change". We will get to see that the young upstart from Chicago has a lot of debt to pay off. That debt is owed to a lot of unsavory characters from Chicago. The media has been sitting on a lot of stories "sounds just like Bill Clinton huh?" waiting on their chance to fill the 30 minute evening news slot for the next four years. A lot of people are going to regret not voting for a bland old man that is not very interesting.

I hope Obama gets the equivalent of a Kenneth Starr as the Clintons had to put up with. Maybe then people will get to hear about the real Obama. Of course, no one will belive anything negative about Obama.

Now, now. Why are you left wing loons still being so hateful? You got your Messiah, now start looking forward into your future PLEASE! Are you still looking back because you are now afraid of what's to come? The only racial slurs I've read over the last few weeks have been statements made by the left. Not one time have I read one that came from an opposing thinker. Just always from the followers. Wait, why do you call yourselves "followers"? I have always understood those voting for a political candidate were supporters. Now anyone who supports Barack Obama refers to themselves as a follower. Aren't followers usually connected to a religion or some crazy cult? There are so many great, experienced African-American people who would not have the baggage BO does. If this election was only about bringing the USA into the 21st century with race relations we could have done so much better! Colin Powell, Alan Keyes, Bill Cosby, Condolesa Rice, just to name a few! What will happen the first time one of the followers doesn't get their utility bill paid or their welfare check isn't $100.000 a year? One last comment: Obamanation and Abomination, wow, that's similar!
    Abomination , WOW!

HEY MYSTA So I guess that makes you be a dumba--!. I never told what race I am. Did you assume I was white because I said I had a job, an education and could pass a drug test? Well, I'm not. I'm native american/irish so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

      • Posted By: justamoderate @ 11/05/2008 11:16:27 PM

Oh, I'm educated alright . I worked my through a master's degree. Now I work 70 hours a week and pass random drug tests for my checks that cover my groceries, rent, utilities, etc. I wonder, will those big government checks come if I fail my next drug test? Will you just spread your wealth around and make sure I'm the recipient?
