Do you think Obama might consider Gov.Bill Richardson for Secretary of State? He has a pretty good track record with his international interventions on behalf of hostages and those americans in foriegn prisons.
Do you think Obama might consider Gov.Bill Richardson for Secretary of State? He has a pretty good track record with his international interventions on behalf of hostages and those americans in foriegn prisons.
News accounts suggest that sitting Gov. Bill Richardson (New Mexico) and sitting Sen. John Kerry (Massachusetts) are Obama's leading candidates for Secretary of State, but who knows for sure? Obama's camp has been very good about not leaking things up to now, so these reports could be highly speculative. Also, there's no guarantee that either would accept the post if offered.
Deborah: I think it's pretty pathetic that there are still people in this country that believe that "sharing the wealth" is a bad thing. While it should be applauded that 100% of your employees are African American the fact still remains that there are people of all races, ethnicities, and ages living in poverty because of failed economic policies. All Obama is asking is that Americans put their greed and hunger for profit aside (for once) to help a fellow American that is hungry, homeless, or suffering some other social or economic ill. Is there something wrong with that? Surely if you were poor and weren't provided the opportunity (and no America hasn't always been the land of equal opportunity) to lift yourself up economically you still wouldn't expect to starve. Sometimes the invisible hand can't fix all of our problems....sometimes we need a visible, helping hand.
Carl, don't you think that all that money that Mr. Obama spent on his "race" to the White House (no pun intended) could have been better spent on those less fortunate? How much of his wealth is he willing to share?
Electing Obama was the best investment of that money possible, as far as the poor are concerned. Money well spent. Hallelujah.
Yup! The poor with their votes have guaranteed themselves at least one more generation of being low class scumbags with their hands out for a g'vment check. How many generations are now on the dole here? Get a clue all you folks who are so poor. There is a way out of poverty--education and work. I've seen Southeast Asian refugees I worked with come here and within a decade they are respectable middle class--in two decades living in fine homes and driving a Mercedes and they couldn't even speak English--not even Ebonics for crying out loud. Why is it that people born here on welfare stay on it? Because they have been so imbued with a sense of worthlessness and with a dependency on the dole they really cannot envision any longer how beautiful, bright and worthwhile they really are! Help them please by not feeding their habit!
The poor will be getting my hard earned money without doing anything for it and will then show their little children that the way to get money is to hold out your hand! Work is hard but it instills confidence and a feeling of pride that the poor will never get from Senator Obama's idea of "spreading the wealth around."
I totally agree!!! I can look at my life with pride because I have worked hard and paid for my own education and never asked for a handout from anyone. I pay my own bills. There is a sense of pride in knowing that I own my own house and cars and it's because I earned it!
In the last 8yrs. bush didn't share any of his wealth to help the american people either but yet a man that haven't even started in off as a president only was elected yesterday, is being helled accountible for what other president have been messing up for years.
I hope that Obama will invest in your education because obviously you don't have one.
Yeah he is and with your money. Ha! Ha!
That's about right too! I work and put in overtime to pay my own bills and put myself through college while people like you sit around on your lazy, ignorant asses while everyone else supports you, just so you can get a hand out because you think you're owed it!
The American people have always been willing to donate to the cause of those less fortunate than themselves who have been stricken by disaster not of there own making. It is being forced through government taxation policies and welfare programs to turn over your hard earned money to those who wait for handouts rather than pull themselves up that cause people concern. Ask but don't demand.
Jerry has hit on the most cogent point. Obama wants to compel Americans to share with people they may or may not feel are working hard enough to deserve a handout. I believe that Americans are the most generous people in the world. I give 10% to my church which has no overhead and helps the poor here and in many lands. The government should not compel me to give through their ineffecient programs laden with fraud. I will fight this to my grave.
we donated that money to him. Are you asking mccain to donate his personal wealth to those less fortunate?
No- but it sure would have been nice to see that our President -elect and Vice President elect had made more contributions of their own to charitable causes rather than telling us we have to through tax policy. FIRST OBAMA LIE- debate #3 Warren Buffett for SECTREAS. And now we are told that isn't so. Where will Lie #2 come, and we aren't 24 hrs into our "Obamanation."
That's why we have charity based on an individual's choice of how to give their own property. We don't need to government to have charity.
Carl, like I stated i can't afford to get any poorer, and I feel for my guys that I will soon have to say off, they are experienced hard working proffessionals that do not under any circumstances deserve this, but I also do not deserve to hand over anymore tax dollars. I have been sharing the wealth for years. I donate to my favorite charities and all of them are monority charities. I purchase toys for 500 children a year for Christmas and do not use it as a tax write off, I do it because I love children and do not want them to have a bad Christmas. I am a single mother, that is proud of my business. Most women would never venture into this type of business.. I depended on my all African American staff. The depended on me and now I have to let them down. I feel that no matter who won I was in for trouble. When government bailed out the mortage companies and banks most of us small business oweners got hurt. Out lines of credit were cut, and now our customers are using the state of the economy to become slow pay. I have always been honest, paid my bills on time, gave my guys bonuses because they deserve it. I only wish I could do more for them. Carl you may not be worried about your next paycheck but I am.
I have not read one word on the status of the senate seats now held by Obama and Biden. How will these seats be filled after Jan 20, 2009?
Both Obama's state (Illinois) and Biden's state (Delaware) have Democratic governors, so they will almost certainly be replaced by Democrats..
The governor of their respective states will appoint replacements for the remainder of their terms (or, as in Biden's case, for the entire term, since he was just re-elected to the Senate as well). I think it is the same for U.S. Representatives as well. I suspect that the only reason Ted Stevens (of Alaska) remained in the race after his conviction was so Gov. Palin would have the opportunity to appoint a Republican to replace him after he resigns. Maybe Ms. Maverick will do the right thing instead and appoint his Democratic opponent, but what d'ya suppose the likelihood of that is?
Where`s Rodney king when ya need him? Can`t we all get along? We have a half white/half black, muslim/christian who know`s president, if thats not compromise i dont know what is. Maybe now we can all at least go visit the pyramids and middle east.
We all owe a profound debt of gratitude for the wonderful job Sarah Palin did in bringing about Obama''s win. One of the most important things she did was to demonstrate what an imbecile we would have in the Oval Office should McCain have won. Either McCain, by demonstrating his total lack of judgment or Palin, for demonstrating what an airhead she is. Thank you Sarah, you betcha''
You make me sick. For the first time, we have a politician who doesn't speak with a forked tongue! She is what she is, she didn't have a linguist trying to coach her on how to get rid of her accent, and I'm sure the well-publicized wardrobe was not her idea.
the ONLY reason she wouldn't have made a good president is because she is too laid back and open to ever run the country. Some idiot like you, would have been able to get close enough to her to kill her where that won't happen with any other, THANK GOD! Oh, did I say THANK GOD! YEP, I did.
She certainly didn't say no to the "well-publicized wardrobe." That's what a true maverick would have done.
Cleobeo, I completely agree. McCain jumped the shark with his reckless, irresponsible pick. The woman couldn't name a magazine she reads and is nothing more than a dangerous, folksy cliche machine. Thank God she is not a heartbeat away fron the president. The right man won at the right time. Finally, we have a president we can be proud of.
Concerned Canadian...or shall I say racist undercover...Canada...the one place I as a black woman plan to NEVER go back to visit again...you people treated me like an alien. Anyhow...back to Barack...how dare you call this man stupid but give credit to Palin...go and crawl back under the rock in which you came from...or go hang out by the pool and drink beer, in your two-piece bathing suit, hold up your gun and enjoy Daffy Duck Palin for a pool party. Oh, bring some pampers for her pregnant teen daughter...ummmm...who is that child's daddy anyhow...
As a black women who just elected a black president because he is black, and whose Obamamma was pregnant with him out of wedlock too--apparently married her somewhere along the line but, ooops! he already had a wife named Kezia back in Kenya then added a third wife, another naive American named Ruth. I guess he forgot to tell Obamamamma Ann he, Barack Sr., was Muslim and could have four wives. With that kind of a history and with Obama's grandmother saying he was born in Kenya which may cause a constitutional crisis since that will disqualify him for the presidency between now and inaugeration if fully proven, I wouldn't be talking about the classy lassy, Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy. I'd be much more embarrassed to look at Obama's family tree and potential lack of being able to take the oath of office. The case is being appealed to the Supreme Court on Obama's actual birth records and citizenry. Travelled to Pakistan on an Indonesian passport when twenty--could only have gotten it by renouncing his citizenship if he had any. Oooops! No natural born citizen then. No wonder he just proclaimed in Germany that he is a citizen of the world.
No matter where you are born if one of your parents is a United States Citizen you are a natural born citizen. Simple 9th grade civics.
wxgal, you are only partially correct. the uscis.gov websites states that "..Certain individuals born outside of the United States are born citizens because of their parents, according to the principle of jus sanguinis (which holds that the country of citizenship of a child is the same as that of his / her parents). .." so, it does not appear to be automatic or 100%. Maybe he IS NOT a US citizen - try to obtain facts before you talk.
gentlepeople, Mr. Fineman, if Pres.0 is all about the editorials claimed him as.then ,i give him praise-for his abilities to achieve his objectives. if that changed our voter views, then doesn't that prove his abilties to be a profound leader of this awesome great country ? ? and to be a breath of fresh air to world polictics.things are going to be better. BELIEVE!!! support our PRESIDENT!! CONGRADULATIONS, MR.PRESIDENT!!!
I feel that Obama has many great ideas. However, his inexperience in government may not allow him to implement them. But what does bug me is how this whole campaign has become a "race" cause. I keep hearing about "the first African American male" versus the "best man" who will run our country. I also didn't appreciate after he won how the televisions zoomed in on all the faces of black Americans celebrating. He is everyone's president, not only the black Americans. I hope black America voted for him because they truly believe he is the right man and not to fight a racial cause. It is an American cause. I don't see color, I see a great man who can make change.
I totally agree. What is it that makes Barack Obama an African American. He is 50% black and 50% white. The only reason that he is considered african american is purely on the color of his skin. Which to me is meaningless. We teach our kids to not look at people by their gender or skin color, but the whole time during this election we are talking about Baracks skin color and Palins gender. I thought we were past this. This election should not be historic for someones skin color. He should be a celebration for one persons ideas to better a nation. To vote for someone based on skin color is exactly what we all have been trying to get away from the last 30 to 40 yrs. Lets be more civilized and educated America.
In Mr. Obama's case, African father + American mother + U.S. Citizen = African American, it's as simple as that. There are people outside of Africa with very dark skin - many Indians from India, Aborigines from Australia, Pacific Islanders from Micronesia, for example. If they were also U.S. Citizens, they would not be African American. Skin color + U.S. Citizenship != (does not equal) African American.
hey i am past all that i voted for john edwards ,official turd sniffer of the decade. hang in there johnny 2012 will be coming soon.
"I don't see color, I see a great man who can make change." Wish everyone could make as much sense as you do
America has always hoist its' first's. Whether good, bad or indifferent that is what we do; recognize the first, the best, the worst!!! President - elect Obama is the first african - american president, like President Carter was the first Georgia farmer and George W. Bush is the worst.
Thanks, Tom343. Every once in awhile we have to be brought back down to reality! After reading the grammar used by the followers I'm sending them a little Christmas wish list hint: Hooked on Phonics. jlwalker: it should be "you were" not "you was". There is also a secretary of education position that will be open soon and I'm thinking you would be a great candidate. Send in your resume, hurry before the office is filled.
hey jlwalker15 how are ya? so just wanted to let you know you should really check your choice of wording? "because you was a racist" just does`nt flow very well. ok so ttyl later
does anyone have a good recipe for sweet potato pie? just curious im in a baking mood.
This is for legendary. E-mails and message boards have one major flaw. Inflection is often misinterpreted in them. you can't see the facial expressions.
Now, having said that, I am going to assume you are young.
About the preacher, where do you get the idea he didn't hear him say those things? It is my understanding that this was this preacher's normal rhetoric and behavior. I can only speak for myself, but I don't even sit through a meeting if I hear garbage like that coming from the speaker! I can't imagine sitting through 20 years of it. And, on the unlikely possibility that you are right.....do you want someone leading the country who has his head stuck in the sand (or as my parents would have said - stuck where the sun don't shine!) about what his beliefs are?
Yes, Wright scares me. His willingness to meet with the heads of countries that would love nothing more than to feign comradery whilst sticking the perverbial stake between the shoulder blades SCARES me!
I will wait and see if he can keep all his promises.
Well, Palin had a witch doctor and talked to foreign leaders on the phone without preconditions and was too dump to know who it was. Why don't you just say it , you are a racist and that is what you are upset about. I hope you tell your children that you was not a part of history and you will not be in the history books because you was a racist.
Hold it folks! What about all this change? The memory of the Clinton mob was such that got "W" in twice! Now we get them again? This is not change at all! This is same old same old!
I recently read posted comments on this site by hepworthkeith on 11/05/08. The comments made are evidence that ignorant people need to learn to exercise their right to remain silent. Not only are there numerous grammatical errors in the contents, but the content of the comments are clearly from and uneducated individual who has nothing better to do than to try to attack the character of President Barack Obama-elect. This low level IQ individual does not speak for the majority of the American people. Fortunately, we live in a society where we are free to vote for candidates whom we feel can best serve the people. On election day, the American people spoke loud and clear as to whom we believe to be the best candidate to lead this nation. I am glad to know that intelligence is not based on color, and love for all shows no boundaries. Obama represents America and the hope for a better future for this generation and the next.
As for such negative comments made by anyone who chooses not to support Obama's efforts only shows lack of intellect and substance. An empty wagon makes a lot of noise.
Very well put. I agree with your comments as well as your disdain for any individual who would call themselves an American in this day and age who would propogate hatred and fear of another simply because they have opinions and ideas that are beyond your scope of intellect. Certainly USAF Retired can see the disservice that we hand our children, if in a defining moment of our contry, we can only utter words of hatred instead of words of healing and use our intellect not misguided notions to direct the future of our great nation. We need to truly be a "United" nation. Divided we will surely fall. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. "There are two ways of spreading light, to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." My hope is that my children will inherit a more just world. Open to new ideas and truly welcoming of diversity.
LOL! I am loving it - all the comments on all the sites from the vanquished! What a sad, bizarro world they live in, populated by imaginary communists. Don't worry, little Jiterz, dry your tears. Maybe you can move to Alaska?
Do you even know what "spread the wealth around" means. It is the definition of Socialism, which is a precursor to Communism. Sorry that you didn't look into this before casting your vote. I feel bad for the 52% of the country who was duped in killing the American Dream. The only thing I have any hope in, is that 57 milion American were intellegent enough to stand up to this and vote for a candidate that we didn't really believe in. We had enough pride in America to hold our noses and pull the lever for passing the American Dream on to our children.
BSIG - you need a new dictionary. Sounds like you have an old one from the cold war days of the "Domino Theory". Socialism is no precursor to Communism. It is just another economic approach. VERY DIFFERENT fom Communism. Europe has many countries using a form of Socialism in combination with Democracy - and they have the highest standard of living in the world - so it must not be too bad..... The Repub;icans tried to make Socialism sound soooooooo bad. It isn't if combined with the rights and freedoms of democracy. Please join the 21st century.
People like you kill the American dream. Those who voted for Obama voted to revive it after Bush killed it. They still have a real view of the "Idea" of America. You seem to have lost it in all the anger and bitterness. Why? Did someone move your cheese?
Let go of your nose, and put that energy into something positive, something that creates and builds and strengthens, and suports. That will make the American dream a reality.
DORF, have you EVER BEEN to Europe? "Highest standard of living:? HAH!! I lived in Germany 10 years - they DREAM of coming to the USA. Go to any country over there and there are lines going around the block for visas to come here! Cars are major purchases - in Germany - most people have to wait for their parents to die and will them them their home. Don't talk about something you know little of, my friend!
Rest assured that our new president will NOT live DOWN to our lowest expectations like our last one did. Perhaps you should let him actually be sworn in before you start raggin' on him. I betcha it won't be as hopeless as you project it to be. He may even surprise you and make this country/world a little better. I predict it won't be nearly as bad as it was January 2000. It can't possibly be that bad. We endured 8 horrible years of your president; why don't you just keep your complainin' to yourself and see what happens. You're probably gonna be pleasantly surprised.. Maybe quit surrendering to the Fox Noise brainwashing machine for a while ... it not, muzzle yourself, get over it and at least wait until you've got something to actually gripe about.
I have a dream that one day close minded people like you will open their eyes, minds, and hearts and be able to see the hope and possibility that Obama has given us for the future of our country to come together and unite as one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL!
BSIG,
So are you one of these Joe the Plumber who owes back taxes, make 40K a year with no hope to buy a business of your own, but wants to give the rich tax cuts in hope that some day, when you finally win the lottery, you too will benefit from those tax cuts. Talking about delusional, your chances of this happening is 1 in 80,000,000 - just about the same of winning the power ball.
Listen up! It's not going to happen, stop buying into the GOP pipe dream. The tax cuts they advocate for is for gambling casinos and Indian tribes, not for you (ask Tom Delay). Do you even know what Communism is other than the red scare from Right Wing Website? Hope you're giving your children a better education than the home school education that you got!
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
I am sure that Dr. King meant this for any color of skin, no matter if it be white black, yellow, brown, red...... . The news coverage that has been shown today tells me that this election was based purely on color. If content of character was a consideration, McCain would have won in a land slide.
I guess it isn't Obama's fault, if there was any real journalism left in this country, all the facts would have been presented to the American people before election day. Now that Obama is the most powerful man in the world, I wish him all the best, and hope he can deliver on his expectations. God Bless America.
"McCain" and "character" are two words that only belong in the same sentence if they are separated by the word "dishonorable" or "pathetic" or maybe "comic."
give me a break. McCain has gave more for this country than most Americans can ever imagine.
In the 60's and 70's...but he didn't have the scruples to run the honorable campaign that Obama did. THAT'S why he lost. Over half of us voted against the rightwing way of campaigning by lies, negativity, fear, and misrepresentation. McCain LOST ... GET OVER IT!! Bush ruined this country; give the new guy the chance he has EARNED. We endured your guy long enuf ... out with the old, in with the new.
Hannah - YOU get over it! The democrats saw the same intelligence and voted for the war. The financial mess belongs on the doorstep of the liberal democrats, ACORN, and especially the left-winger Barney Franks for pressuring banks to lend to those who they shouldn't have had to. You know Franks wants to cut the military by 25%? Clinton already cut it by 50% after the Soviet Union fell -and look how over-stretched we are now! With Putin rebuilding the old empire -further cuts might result in us all speaking the russian language
Obama is not even one tenth the man John McCain is. How many terrorist buddies McCain has ..zero..but how many terrorist buddies does Obama have ...at least 20...that we know of.
Maybe not. Neither does Obama. All this terrorist talk is stupid. Are you??? Both men love their country, both are honorable.
This reminds me of the mindless preacher who opened a McCain rally (I think it was in Iowa) talking about his God being better than someone elses's God. How lame and lacking in religious validity. This is not a tennis match. Each candidate has good and bad points - they are human. Trying to villify one, or give lofty undue credit to the other is pointless and a waste of time.
Let's focus on what we can achieve together trying to reach our goals, instead of trying to drag others down to make one person look better. The election is over. Trying to belittle and berate accomplishes nothing at this point.
What can you contribute to make this world a better place? That needs to be your new focus.
G Gordon Liddy and Rashid Khalidi (whom he gave $440,000 to) are as I count them 2 ... and obvously you don't know of too much. Just because someone is at the same address for a shortwhile as someone else doesn't mean they live and breath the same ideology. So, GET OVER YOURSELF ALREADY!!!!!
so i guess no more affirmative action????? oh and concerned canadian why dont you bottle some syrup keep quiet aye.
Concerned Canadian or Bigot Canadian? Pretty eveident its the latter. Proof that ignorance is as rampant in Canada that America.
Having grown up in Mississippi and Louisiana, I know how a lot of people (black AND white) on both sides of the political spectrum must feel after Sen. Obama's election. Surely there are MANY whites across the country that are happy to see Obama be given the chance to do some good as President. The black community did not elect Sen. Obama. A very diverse group of Americans all across the nation has put him in office...TOGETHER. That's the whole point of the stinkin' election.
For anymore racists (on either side) that want to post filthy, ignorant garbage... just remember: Obama symbolizes a blend of both white and black. He was raised by his OLD, WHITE grandparents (the older generation that so many Obama supporters blame or despise for letting "the country slip away"). I hope that the soon-to-be Pres. Obama will follow through on all of his promises. Just don't forget who you work for, Mr. President. We're your boss.
The tone of many of these comments are the primary reason that we have been the laughing stock of the rest of the world. So what if we now have a mixed race President. I am an older caucasian of hispanic descent who voted for President-elect Obama, and am proud of it. I hope he is successful in straightening out the mess the previous administration has left us in. As for those who feel they can no longer tolerate being an American I would suggest you emigrate somewhere else in the world, and leave us to fix the mess you helped create. This has always been a nation of immigrants; there are no natives except the American Indians.
Couldn't agree with you more .Very well put. People are rambling about race .Obama has proved himself to be very capable just by the way he ran his campaign. He came out as a very serious man yesterday while delivering his acceptance speech. It's an indication of things to come .
