Evan Thomas and Jon Meacham appeared on Charlie Rose last night and were so arrogant I could barely listen. Why would Thomas say that Obama is "creepy." That he appears on stage by himself and watches the crowd watching him. Maybe it was their intent to gin up the Rush Limbaugh listeners and it worked. He has spent an hour talking about how Thomas and Meachan think that Obama is not who he says he is. Yes, I listen to all media so that I am informed about what is going on around me. I will not however buy Newsweek until there is a public apology from especially Thomas to Obama and to those of us who voted for him.

This was obviously not about the best man for the job; it was about talking the talk and putting a black man in the White House at all costs, all orchestrated with help from the media. I hope the cost is not another 911 or botching the exit from the war in Iraq. Although I am plenty disppointed he won, It upsets me more that it is being played as a "black thing" and how wonderful that Martin Luther King, Jr's "dream" has finally come true! Our new president is not even close to MLK in character & substance, or to John McCain, for that matter. He won't even salute the flag for God's sake! I will give him a chance to win me over, but it will take a lot of "walking the walk" and not just talking. As far as I'm concerned, 52% of the voters put a black supremicist in the White House - I would never have considered voting for someone with such extremist white views!

Over 20 years ago, I probably wouldn't have saluted the American flag either. My husband, then a Naval officer's candidate, was struck with a night stick in Florida during what was supposed to be a random search for drugs. He was deemed "insolent" and considered to an armed police officer. It was during this time, that my then 13 year old niece was raped by several white teenage boys after her school's softball game in Georgia. They found her lying bruised and bloody behind a set of bleachers. She was so traumatized by the event, she couldn't even identify the boys; only the color of their skin. She indured countless tests for STD's only to discover 8 weeks later that one of the thugs had impregnated her. My 13 year old niece had to have an abortion and her parents chose not to seek these boys for fear that their daughter's identity would be revealed. Yet you choose to support a man who supports only one demographic and woman who was against abortion even in cases of incest and rape. Your comments are thoughtless and out of touch. A leader stands for all people. How would your feel if your husband or child were subject to such brutal treatment? I don't seek sympathy, but I detest those of you whose only dislike for Obama is the color of his skin and the way the media supposedly catapulted him into the White House. The man was voted in by the majority; the people have spoken. What Democracy is supposed to be about.

1 timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. As the word of God says pray for those in authority that they do what's just and right. pray pray pray true belivers in Christ Jesus for all men to be saved from this perverse generation.

And, um, just as a disclaimer, I am in no way saying that Obama is a mesiah, because I dont believe Jesus was. I believe that he was a great man and an awesome motivational speaker but all that stuff about miracles are metaphor for just how motivational and inspirational Jesus was. He didnt actually perform miracles. So, yeah. Just wanted to clarify.

    • Posted By: rexymeteorite @ 11/07/2008 12:41:56 AM

Its funny you bring up Jesus Christ because he is another inspirational political and cultural leader who just happened to be a person of color. It is also generally accepted that, yes, Christ did exist, but it is IMPOSSIBLE that he was white. In that region, most people had either 1. Migrated from Indo-European countries and were steppe herders, who led a rough and tumble lifestyle and who were mostly tan from working out in the sun or 2. People who migrated from Sub-Saharan Africa and were mostly had a Black Skin color or 3. Were people of Hebrew descent that, contrary to popular belief, were people of color.

Something that is funny about Christianity and Jesus Christ. Wasn't Jesus, like, the biggest community organizer ON EARTH? The man mobilized hundreds of people and moved vast distances just on his word alone? Just on his claim that he was Gods only son? So in the same breath you disparage Barack Obama, you rise Jesus on high....It seems to me that they were quite alike, even though Barack has no delusions that he was God's only son.

I truly believe God most high would bless america if we the people would repent of our wicked ways and submit to his Lordship. We say we are one nation under God but the hearts of many people are divided with hatred toward one another. America has been sinking for many years and will continue to unless we the people turn from evil and serve the the one true God whose face is against this nation because of all the wickness that has much abounded.

It's unfortunate that such an election is already being pigeonholed. Personally, I was an avid McCain supporter for many years as well as a near lifelong resident in Arizona. I had wished that he had been elected president back in 2000. However, I really felt that the party I belonged to became really disassociated with the general public, rather arrogant I might add, especially during the last eight years of the Bush Administration. It's just unfortunate that McCain, regardless of how hard he had tried as a "Maverick" to distance himself from the current Replican network, it was hard to do so and a hard sell for him. The damage had already been done. Obama really did't beat McCain, it was McCains own party that allowed the defeat. In other words, the Republican Party beat its own self with the mistakes that were and have been made and refused accountability and to answer for itself to the general public. It has become a victim of it's own arrogance. It's unfortunate also that such staunch supporters of the party cannot put aside it's anger and look within of it's own weaknesses. I say give Obama a chance, that is what America has always stood for: chance. If we don't like the policies and actions that his administration envokes, then fire him on the next election!! Every other negative statement that poeple make about Obama and "what he might do" and "will do" to us ( like the beheading statement listed below ) is ingnorant and classifies us as "Ugly Americans", not angry ones. We should be, and ARE better citizens and individuals than to think such assumptions. As a white republican I have to admit, it's taken 44 elections for a minority to be elected, however, think of all the problems this country has incurred and created under white leaership after all this time..........

Your assessment of this political race is astounding. In Mccain's haste to CHANGE the country's views of the Republican Party, he and his advisors failed to plan and create a legitimate strategy. They had no platform and were always on the defense for the mistakes of the last 8 years. My mother always told me, "If you surround yourself with fools, everyone will think that you are a fool as well." President Obama's message was very concise... Time for a CHANGE (after 43 presidents, I know our Great country is entitled). We are all fed up with the deaths of our soldiers overseas, high gas prices, homes not worth what we paid for them, unemployment rates increasing, outsourcing to other countries and the dollar we slave each day for not being worth the paper it's printed on. With new leadership, comes fresh and new ideas, a new spirit. As a 35 year old African American male, I am ellated that history has been made. But as a American, I am confident that we made the best choice. President Obama is a man that has our (the American people) best interest at heart and I guarantee time will show us all.

        • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 10:19:34 PM

I agree with what you have posted. Although, unless our president turns us into socialists (a fate that seems to be more and more plausible by the day, and not that horrible-looking), there is next to nothing the government can do to help us with the outsourcing. We have a free market, and after years of reaping the benefits, we're starting to feel the sting of its woes.

          • Posted By: rexymeteorite @ 11/07/2008 12:10:24 AM

Good commentary! I remember being like you when I was your age (I am 22 years old now). The free market is biting us in the behind. Deregulation is what caused this unruly mess (in my opinion I guess) and the nations failure to help is a direct result of at least one illegal war and one questionable one that has a whopping total cost of at least 1 trillion dollars. We are progressively bankrupting our society and we have the deregulation of the financial markets to blame. Derivitive trading was a result of deregulation with the signing of the Gramm-Leech-Bliley act (okay, that was Clinton, stupid Neo Liberal bastard) of 1999.

    • Posted By: MomsHugs @ 11/06/2008 9:14:58 AM

Finally a well-stated comment here - thank you! I was a life-long Republican (moderate) who supported McCain in 2000 & left the party after Bush's campaign operatives played on bigotry rather than running a clean campaign based on capabilities. Independents have grown to 45% of the reigstered voters, which ought to tell BOTH parties something - not to let their respective "wings" control the parties.

      My dear dear southernman57,

How far will you degenerate rednecks slide? I mean, what, do you live in the 1956 where beating a black man is generally accepted as a sport? Do you have the words 'Huntin, Fishin, an lynchin" as your biggest accomplishments on your resume?

Your kind, quite fortunately, is becoming extinct. The days of racism are over. You'll find more and more of your countrymen thinking to themselves "Well, gee, I guess racism is wrong". And you know where you'll be "Southernman57"? Stuck in the past and ridiculed by society.

As for me, I am reporting your post as abuse. It is quite obviously overt racism. Even though you were clever enough to leave out a couple of vowels (honestly I didnt think you "country folk" were smart enough to tie your shoe laces let alone post on an internet blog, let alone even know what the internet is) most people will get the intent of your message. I just hope that you look in the mirror one day and hate what you see and rejoin mainstream American society.

So, I leave you with this final message, you dolt, Racism is dead. Hatred based on skin is dead, and Barack Obama will be the latest to be credited with killing it. He will be a great president, much to your dismay, and will be elected to a second term. I just hope that when you see what wonders he does for america you will change your tune.

With all the love in the world I can give a redneck,
      Rexy

    • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 10:39:33 PM

He may not be raising taxes on the rich, but he's hoping to remove tax cuts that the rich, instead of the poor and destitute, receive. It won't happen without the Senate and Congress' approval, but it's a nice dream, at the least.

      • Posted By: questions123 @ 11/06/2008 3:22:08 AM

The destitute do not pay taxes in this country. Heck in this country very few even know what it is to be truly destitue. I would rather be poor in this country than any where else in the world. Because here in this country you always have the oportunity to suceed as long as you have the desire and determination and drive. These are the people who fuel the engine and drive the big busses. But if you raise the fuel price too much they may start riding bicycles. Then we will all be screwed because there is ony room for one on that bike and no one else will be able to catch a free ride. Not everyone can be wealthy because perhaps we all were not born with the same gifts, talents, desires, or grit and determination. Being an imigrant who arrived in this country with nothing and without the command for the english language, I thank God every day for the priviledge of living in this country where through my work and efforts I can live and provide for my family a comfortable...even if not wealthy.....life.

It is shameful and nauseating to know and see how so jugemental people are. God is not judgemental and the media has a job judt like most of us. They did it in the way they wanted to. I am not an Obama basher or a McCain hater. I am an American and the bottom line is we all share the same president and we should all support him. If McCain were elected, I am sure some people would be just as upset. But I also believe, the support for him would come from all sides of the fence because he would have been our commander in chief. He's not, so now we should support who is and focus on working together to get OUR country back in tip top shape and accept the change that is at hand.

All I have to say is thanks for thinking of the military families when you all went and voted for a man who will niether support nor has ever seen the true duties of our heros. My family watches everyday as our heros protect this great land, and the sacrifices we make to save this so called great nation have respectfully been put in to the hands of "change". That change that we have heard so much about, has truely changed the lives of all military families who seek pride in watching our heros perform their duties, and peacefully put our needs on the back burner to support our country. And now... Our country has turned their backs on us. THANK YOU for "changinf" my families future.

WELL SAID!!! My husband is in the military also and we have 3 chldren...CHANGE ?? This is not the change that I voted for along with so many other American families. I can not believe we will have a president who doesn't support our military. It makes me sick to my stomach! It's unfortunate that every ignorant American got out there and voted.

      • Posted By: fifi8989 @ 11/06/2008 10:03:30 PM

He doesn't support our military because he wants to pull out of a war that we shouldn't have started? And quite frankly, we will never win, well because there is nothing to win. You can argue we are fighting for Oil. Well, what's that saying, You catch more flies with honey than vinegar? You can also argue that we are fighting the war on terrorism. We are not going to stop terrorism by fighting them. These people were brainwashed to hate western civilization. That's as ignorant as saying that racism is going to end in this country because our new president is mulatto ( for all you politically correct people out there).

    • Posted By: 614SCORP @ 11/05/2008 8:17:01 PM

I feel just the opposite way, I come from a military family as well 4 generations and I have to say that I support our troops and they will be HERO's regardless and the fact that a man is ready to bring them back home and to have them here with there families and preparing for the day that we may actually have to fight a war that is ours! Be truthful this war that we are fighting is not ours, what have we gained, what positives have you seen come from this. I will forever support the troops and continue to pray for them always but it is time they come home!!

I feel sorry for people who have been blinded by Obama's rhetoric. During the campaign, he fronted himself as a moderate. Look at his record and the people he has associated with all his life and you'll see a man that is radical, bordering on socialist (he grew up with a family that believed in socialist ideologies). I am truly afraid of what Obama might do to our constitution/country with the support he has in Congress and who he will eventually appoint to the Supreme Court. Although, I hope he proves me wrong, the way he has lived his life does not provide me with much hope.

What Obama MIGHT do? What about the tattered mess BUSH made of the Constitution?! Domestic wiretaps, evisceration of habeas corpus, the Katrina debacle, Scooter Libby, Homeland Security...George Orwell has officially replaced Nostradamus as the most clairvoyant human in history!

He will spend as frivolously as he chooses - like Bush. McCain is the one who differed from where Bush failed. You have just put Bush's fiscal twin in office, except where Bush helped a recession, Obama will bring the next depression. depression.

The comments such as this one make me EMBARRASSED to be a *registered* DEMOCRAT. I think both parties are fail. Democrats voted to put Obama in office yet ban gay marriage in California. I'm not gay or married, but there are serious problems with the two faces the Democratic party wears. McCain did have the right ideas for America. I only wish that his message beat Obama's rhetoric bull.. McCain had it right!

      • Posted By: fifi8989 @ 11/06/2008 9:41:31 PM

That is most likely due to the fact that the wording on the ballot was misleading. I don't think people quite understood that they were not asking if you wanted to make gay marriage legal(as it already was) but, to overturn that act, and to make it illegal.

      • Posted By: melvinsj @ 11/06/2008 12:12:23 PM

The two faces the democratic party wears? Do you actually believe that all democrats share the same views on every issue?? Just because someone voted for Barack Obama they have to support gay marriage? We're talking about 60+ million people that voted for Obama. Do you really think all of them have the same views on all the issues?

How is Obama a bad thing for this country, seriously? For all you Obama haters out there, you guys are either racist or really rich. All he wants to do is raises taxes on the rich, whats wrong with that? Come on, seriously, America is at its healthiest form when the super rich are being taxed, just look at FDR, he raised taxes on the rich and made government more involved in the economy ,and look what happened, the great depression was over. Also look at the eighties, when Ronald Regan and Daddy Bush were in office and put the country in debt at minus 199 billion dollars every year with tax cuts for the rich, we went into a recession, then cames Bill Clinton and he raised taxes on the rich, causing a estimated surplus of 130 billion dollars in 2000. Then came W. Bush and he really *** this country up tax cuts for the rich , we are at 9,3 trillion dollars in national debt now, not including 2008's fiscal year. So for all you Conservatives out there saying that Obama is a socialist because he wants to raise taxes, just go with the flow if you guys are true American patriots, because its the only way to save this great land and make it the land it once was.

    • Posted By: ThirdPartyGal @ 11/06/2008 12:01:17 AM

Yes & last time the rich were taxed the country went into a great depression. It is only the democratic party acting like racists bigots and trying to throw this prejudices into a party that was in a minority because of President Bush governing as a democrat in the disguise of a Republican. I have never been more embarrassed by democrats who speak of racism like this. The party has become a pool of bigots.

Wait? I don't understand your comment. The democrats are a bunch of racist bigots because we want to end the rich tax break?? I wasn't aware rich was a race. Hmm. President Bush as a democrat?? Was Bush senior also a closet democrat?? Oh wait, Clinton was a republican right? I get your logic now. Right.

FDR was elected in 1932 by a coalition of rich, poor, unions, etc. Only top 3% paid federal taxes then. Unemployment rose from 4% in 1929 when the market crashed to 25% in 1932 - desperation had set in. FDR's New Deal was the product of a collection of Columbia Universities finest minds - who were ridiculed as his "brain Trust" by newspapers. FDR & his fellow Democrats were given a mandate, which was carried out in his first 100 days. Look up The New Deal in Wikipedia.

Do you really expect our problems to be fixed in 4 years? *sigh*, so naive. He is just being realistic.

2 chronicles 7: 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. American has fallen unless we the people repent and turn back the one and only God our savior Jesus Christ

Before you start preaching, please research you religions history. Please respect people's rights to religious freedom.

Comment: Enter Your Comment The people of this country must understand the importance of history. Every great nations fall has been directly connected to the moral decay of it's society. Yes believe it or not if a nation wants the blessing of God they can't go on living like hell forever. It's amazing to me the people that voted for Obama because he capitalized on the bad economy. Let me explain. The economy didn't get this way overnight and I can't even blame it on a particular president. It is a collective result of people making unwise decisions with their finances straying from or ignorant of God's principles to a blessed life. The bottom line, to ignore the root problem which are the (moral issues) and focus on the end results (economy) is totally backwards. If the leaders will stand for what is right in the eyes of God and not what they think is right, the change for good in this country would be so great people, we couldn't even fathom. History speaks for itself please pray that the people of our nation will peel of the blinders on their eyes and truly see where we are headed if we don't turn back to God! Pray for our new leader it's important regardless if you voted for him or not it's called obedience to God's word, something we need to go back to to keep His blessing on this country. Or else? That is a question that history has already answered. God bless you all!

So our economy is directly related to God*? Because we don't share the same religious views as you it means the country is going to fall apart, and the economy fail? That makes perfect sense.
      * The First Amendment states we have a right to religious freedom. Don't push your God/beliefs on me, and I will do the same for you.
As for the morals you Christian Conservatives* speak of, I would look in the mirror before you start preaching about what is right and wrong.
*See Inquistion, Crusades, Witch Trials, Spanish Conquistadors, etc.
