ifmypeople Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

What worries me at this time is as Powell stated, "..the narrowing of the Republican party." It really bothers me to say that what I witnessed in this political season was a party that became exclusive vs. inclusive. After Palin arrived the definition of a Republican could only be: against abortion, against taxes (even with the biggest deficit in our history), small town, uneducated, angry/scared/mean (border line violent) white people.

I find it funny that one person interviewed about voting for obama said now she won't have to worry about her mortgage or car payment he will take care of it thats the biggest joke of this election!

    • Posted By: jannatnht @ 11/05/2008 10:27:31 PM

These poor uneducated people are THE BASE of Obama's supporters looking for handouts.

      • Posted By: Jessara @ 11/06/2008 11:03:02 AM

You Republicans are getting it wrong. The Peggy from Florida said, "she won't have to worry about paying her mortgage or worry about her car payment." Right now, we all worry about paying our mortgages but we're paying it. She was saying, that once the economy turns around, that's not something she has to worry about. I can't believe you're so stupid you're reading it as "I don't have to pay my mortgage and I don't have to pay for my car." I'm worried about my mortgage too and filling my gas tank. Get a clue. Go to school, learn something about semantics and you'll be set free. Unbelievable. President Obama is so middle of the road, he's going to work with the Congress to change this mess around. I don't even know why he would want this difficult job be he's definitely the man to do it.

to wintergate: I like the fact that you say you're a white boy that really took some intelligent time to put it together, but what do you know of life other than mimick rap and thinking you so bad, let me tell you been there done that and having some snott kid like you to tell me that the younger generation went out to vote well you hit it right on the botton you don't even know how to wipe your hind and get the wax out of your ears to understand the reality until it hits square in the mug, and then say what ever! well lectures are a fact of life, all I say is my opinion but you're to way and too smart to run off with your mouth even to stop for a second and make wise choices in life let alone make a decision with out mommy's permission. Go Home drink milk and stay in school, or is it to hard for you to stay in class and think you are the smartest white boy on earth...dream on kid, i like your attitude maybe some day when you get an education and run for office I might just vote for you. PUNK!

it has to come to this for the white people to stand up to u *** scumsucking *** who think we should support you. another civil war is brewing

    • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 10:12:25 PM

Guess what, my ignorant friend. I am 100% Scandinavian. If you don't know what that means, it means I'm pretty much the whitest of the white, the Wonder of bread. As you have evidenced, I also appear to have a more broadened mind, despite the fact that I'm 15 years old. The only reason a civil war would be brewing is because prejudiced fools like yourself can't accept that a simple majority of the population elected Obama. I did not support him, but I feel it is my duty to protect my future president; scapegoat for the Congress. Perhaps you should be willing to protect our great country, instead of flaming on the man that your brethren chose to lead us. Get over yourself.

      • Posted By: Wintergate1 @ 11/06/2008 3:17:53 PM

I like your style kid! Staying informed and abreast of the issues are what matters. The youth vote played a wonderful role in the outcome of this election but to be only 15 shows remarkable depth. You're far more mature than many on this site whose only reasons for hating President-elect Obama are the color of his skin and the wild belief that he's a terrorist or socialist. Nothing based on fact; only rhetoric. To the guy who tried to shameface you; you just got punk'd by a 15 year old white boy with more educative sense than you'll ever have.

      • Posted By: SM2008 @ 11/06/2008 12:41:30 AM

Thank you for that intelligent comment! I am honored to know that the youth of today are educating themselves on the political process(AND VERY WELL, IF I MAY SAY SO!) Our youth is our future and you just made me very proud!!!!!! Keep up the good work!

      • Posted By: selainepar @ 11/05/2008 10:17:28 PM

I cannot believe you are only 15. The wisdom you show, at your young age, is tremendous. Congratulations. I applaud you for having a mind of such lucidity and depth. It will take you far.

        • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 10:22:03 PM

Why, thank you. It warms my heart to find people willing to believe that a young American can still be an intelligent one.

To Wintergate1: Well said, very well said. I'm a conservative, and vehemently disagree with many of Obama's ideas. But he is our President Elect now and we should do what we can to support him (without losing sight of the fact that we can also criticize him when he does things we don't agree with; thank God for the freedom of America). I sympathize with your plight, with the agonies you lived through as a black man (woman?). But your attitude is great and I hope it spreads. If nothing else, the fact that an African American has been elected President will hopefully inspire all of your race to continue to fight the good fight and to endeavour to improve the country. Thanks for your comment.

If a man will not put his hand on the Bible as God had intended he should not run our country period...He will fail as a leader.....Mc Cain should have won period....Im so dissapointed John Mc cain should have been President ...Obama is a muslim I do not want to live here long as he will be President.....Obama is the biggest joke for a president...We are going to have riots and he just stirred up history just you wait there will be an outcome over this.It will not be good....What is wrong with you people wake up the South is strong and will succeed without Obama...Cannot believe he won the electoral vote We didnt even get in all the votes before it was decided .....That is not right....

    • Posted By: CAHeider @ 11/05/2008 7:01:37 PM

Senator Obama is not a Muslim, are you that thick that you can't read ? I didn't vote for President Bush, but once he was commander and chief, I gave him my respect. You and the rest of the country should do the same if you are American. If not get the hell out of the country, go to Mexico or Canada and see how your limited point of view will be treated there. Barack Obama is going to be our commander and chief, get over it.

      • Posted By: mssammons @ 11/05/2008 7:21:44 PM

Yes, unfortunately he is! My question is how did it happen? Might it have something to do with ACORN. This man stood in front of a preacher who spewed hatred for America for 20 years. Even his wife, the future first lady is not a proud American! I'm very concerned for our future, but I'm not leaving!

        • Posted By: Wintergate1 @ 11/06/2008 12:31:26 PM

I grew up listening to the same message as Obama; but it was in Black Baptist Church in the South. During a time when Strom Thurmond was in office and the only jobs black people could find was what is considered menial labor. I grew up listening to people address my grandmother by her first name while she was expected to address them as either "Mr." or "Mrs." I remember my grandfather telling me of a lynching he'd heard about not to far from his home as a boy. So you see, I understand, where Jeremiah Wright was coming from about the injustices and the oppression that this great country has bared witnessed to. But I chose to look at the message of my pastor and that of Reverend Wright as a lesson; not a way to live my life. I'd like to think that President-elect Obama has done the same. He chose to unite this country, not divide it. And I chose to look at people for the content of their character, not the color of their skin as reiterated in my mind by the words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I left the South but the harsh realities remain in my memory. I'm grateful to God that although my grandfather didn't live to see this day, that my 88 year old grandmother did; she voted and she stood in a 2 hour line to do so. As an African-American I have a right to be ashamed of the atrocities placed upon our people but like Obama I choose to look ahead. There was nothing wrong in what Michele Obama said. The history of our nation is what it is; but this is truly the first time that I'm proud to call myself an American. It has to do with moving forward; it has to do with progress; and it has to do with change. The biggest mistake in McCain's campaign was relying on old tactics; the way this country has been run for the past 8 years. It's not a black or white issue. As angry as I am about the ignorant and misinformed rhetoric that I've viewed here; there are plenty of us on this site who want to see our new President succeed. And, as shown, the majority of those who voted feel the same way. Don't speak of racial issues if you don't understand what the minority has dealt with.

    • Posted By: militaryfamily5 @ 11/05/2008 8:34:50 PM

EXACTLY! you can't put your hand on the Bible? Makes me SICK! We are a military family and I am just sick thinking of what this man has in store for our troops. He doesn't even support our military. If you haven't seen the you tube vidoe dear mr obama you need to, he says it all! THE DAY WE LOSE OUR WILL TO FIGHT IS THE DAY WE LOSE OUR FREEDOM!!!!

      • Posted By: Wintergate1 @ 11/06/2008 9:26:15 AM

Ignorance reigns supreme! I don't support the war either but I support our troops. That war wasn't ours to begin with. Yet now, here we are, in the biggest financial crisis since the depression and yet there are those of you who actually believe that President-elect Obama won't support our troops. Funding should be reduced to a degree, but here is a man who wants to bring home your husbands, your wives, your children, nieces, and nephews...It was Bush who sent your loved ones overseas to fight a war that had no basis. Look at the existence of America today; the economy, foreclosures, education, health care. That's where our money should be spent. Not lining the pockets of contract workers overseas and introducing new weapons while allowing our military to play the guinea pigs! Have any of you seen the state of our veteran hospital systems? It's a joke. I don't feel it's necessary for someone to place their hand on a Bible to serve our country. I personally think one's belief in God should be private and not turned into an exhibition. I was under the assumption that those of you who claim to be Christian and God-fearing individuals would embrace new leadership; not tear it down. What a bunch of hypocrites!

i think it's hilarious that so many people comment on this about how the media elected Obama, but pay no attention to the fact that it was the media that spread the bull crap about him being a terrorist, muslim, etc.

    • Posted By: ahs2007 @ 11/05/2008 8:51:21 PM

He associates himself with terrorists...what's the difference?

      • Posted By: dwinks426 @ 11/05/2008 9:05:05 PM

Guilty by association? What a joke. Besides, I don't think Obama and Ayers are buddies, unless you know something I don't. Were they caught on tape kicking back a few cold ones? Do you seriously think that because he served with Ayers one time on some commitee means that Obama is going to appoint him to his cabinet and seek advice from him?

        • Posted By: ahs2007 @ 11/05/2008 10:12:23 PM

So, if I served on a board with Osama Bin Laden, I wouldn't be considered a terrorist? Ayers, Wright (yeah right Obama didn't know what this guy preached about)...the list goes on...ridiculous.

          • Posted By: melvinsj @ 11/06/2008 12:22:43 PM

Your Osama Bin Laden comparison is utterly ridiculous. Bill Ayers is a respected university professor and the board they served on was setup by a Republican and there were many other people on that board. Should we consider everyone on that board terrorists and all of students terrorists? I guess all of his neighbors are terrorists too. Fortunately most people didn't buy into all this fear mongering that the McCain campaign was selling.

  • Posted By: Tangent @ 11/05/2008 6:55:31 PM

For the first time in US history, neither candidate won the election...the media did. Under the guise of "professional journalism", they picked their candidate, built him an aura, and defended him to the bitter end. If it had been a horse race, someone would be getting arrested right now for fixing the race. As it stands, we have a president elect with questionable origin, questionable background, and questionable ethics, Not one reporter dug into any of the questions that Senator Obama refused to answer. Objective journalism has met it's demise and "The Medium Is The Message."

    • Posted By: melvinsj @ 11/06/2008 11:54:34 AM

Not one report dug into any of the questions??? Do you not know of a channel called Fox News? They talked about it everyday for almost a year. He didn't refuse to answer anything, he gave an answer for everything. If you don't believe his explanations then you don't have to, but don't pretend that he didn't answer any of it. All of this stuff was out there in the media, it just didn't sway enough voters. Obama was fairly elected so get over it and let's hope that we're all better off in four years. I mean, you do want the best for this country right? I really think some of you want Obama to fail just to say I told you so, but if he fails we all suffer. I don't understand how any patriot would want to see that...

    • Posted By: Truth and beauty @ 11/05/2008 7:00:16 PM

Can you actually get up in the morning and function at a job?

  • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 9:45:35 PM

I find it entertaining that everyone seems to forget that the President is not some all-powerful monarch in America. It is the Congress, people we elect, that decides what happens to this country. Although he/she is the political figurehead for America, along with his cabinet, the Congress and Senate is where the decisions are made. The Pres may veto, but a 2/3 majority vote will override that. Once you all sit back and realize where the real power is, maybe you'll regret some of the flaming that has gone on in these comments.

    • Posted By: Jessara @ 11/06/2008 11:17:21 AM

Are you really only 15? You're quite insightful. I have a 15-year-old and he doesn't even come close to this; he's now getting into politics. I think you're the future of our country and consider a run in 20-30 years. I'll support you for sure.

  • Posted By: MomsHugs @ 11/06/2008 11:07:50 AM

Other than a few comments that make sense (like Wintergate1's), the ignorance & bigotry (racial & religious) displayed in comments here is really disheartening, making me afraid for our nation. After 2 years of vetting both campaigns, how is it possible that people are not aware of who the candidates are & what they stand for?

  • Posted By: Babban @ 11/06/2008 10:15:41 AM

Now that Obama has won, let us see if he can handle a job that does not mainly consist of angling for a higher office.

  • Posted By: foreverred @ 11/05/2008 9:24:31 PM

BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN< thirdpartygirl! How true, many Americans did not research the campaign promises or experience of Mr. Obama. How blindly he was elected when his only real quality is eloquence. The real hero here is Senator McCain. He had a 'real plan, real experience and a genuine interest in the well being of ALL Americans. Now, all we can do is sit and watch what promises this new administration can keep. Without a realistic plan or any real experience, how will our Great Country navigate such difficult times? Some voters sold themselves out for the promise of a one-time check. Spend it well, it may be the only thing this new president can deliver.

    • Posted By: MomsHugs @ 11/06/2008 9:07:51 AM

How wrong YOU are. As an Independent, I look to facts for guidance - not TV/radio news commentators & researched both candidates & their running partner. Most of my family & friends did likewise because we feel strongly about being informed voters. We who supvoted for Obama did so because of that research, believing Obama was the smartest, most capable leader. He & the Democratic majority in Congress have been given a mandate for change. All Americans are needed to help our country grow economically. So - please do whatever you can.

Hate to confuse you with facts, southernman57, but % of blacks that voted in southern states remains low. Obama was supported by white older Independents like myself because he proved himself to be very smart with leadership capabilities this country needs now. As for other posters, please don't feed bigoted trolls.

    • Posted By: cajunhb @ 11/06/2008 1:55:37 AM

I am a Southern man. you are a disgrace to all men, espically TRUE SOUTHERN MEN! There is no place for bigotry in this country even though everyone knows it still exists to some degree. Judge not lest you be judged. Leave the judgement up to GOD.

    • Posted By: flying-emu @ 11/05/2008 9:52:17 PM

You, my friend, are a prejudiced bigot. No offense to any African Americans reading this, but they are still a minority. If it was only the blacks that voted for Obama, then he would have been decimated. Logic, therefore, states that the majority, whites, DID vote for Obama. Not all of them may, but many did. And that's why he's the president-elect.

  • Posted By: Wintergate1 @ 11/05/2008 6:59:12 PM

It's amazing to me how much ignorance still exist in this country. Did any of you ever stop to think the reason McCain lost is because he didn't try to bring this country together but chose to divide it? He never spoke of making it better for all of us until he latched onto "Joe the Plumber," His rallies were filled with people who believed Obama to be a Muslim, a terrorist, and the word he introduced-Socialist. Yet you choose to support a man who didn't embrace diversity and a woman whose own husband a cessationist. McCain lost because he ran a campaign based on lies and an attempt to get into the White House "...by any means necessary." The only thing I applaud McCain for is his gracious concession speech last night. It was the most moving thing he'd said during his entire campaign. Maybe if he chose to act with that depth of sincerity while he ran for President, the outcome could've been different. For those of you who choose not to support our new President-elect...you need to take a long hard look in the mirror at why the people of this world no longer respected our great country; until NOW!

This is not a racist comment but white people created the the best countrys in cthe world to live in and its about time we start having some pride again and wake up and stop catering to minoritys before we gi ve our great nation away and become one ourselves. Since we have a black president now i guess whites can have white pride parades like others do and stop trying to make up for being mean in the past .

        • Posted By: Wintergate1 @ 11/06/2008 7:58:57 AM

If you were half as smart as you make out to be, you'd realize my message had nothing to do with President-elect Obama's race, but more to do with what he chooses to bring to the table. His ideas are socially conscious and he urges people to get involved. He's a motivator. And you say you aren't a racist huh? Your ignorant and stupid comment proves otherwise. The only one who tanked McCain's campaign was McCain. Had he been "The Maverick" from years past, he may have been our President-elect by now. I'm so sick and tired of people thinking being a "POW" automatically qualifies you to serve. Bush's policies put America in a mess and now, unfortunately, Obama has inherited the fall out. A true American supports the President of the United States, not wishes his failure. If he doesn't succeed, we don't succeed Jackass!

You, "southerman", insult the entire south as a whole, and it's you and those like you, who perpetuate and worsen every stereotype of the slack-jawed yokel that, thankfully, true Southern MEN, strive continuously to dispell. My husband has been trying to hire a technician in our little nearly all-white town for months. Finally, after 12 candidates, do you know who finally passed both the background AND the piss test? The one black man who applied. You should have been swallowed.

    • Posted By: timeshadows @ 11/05/2008 10:35:47 PM

Okay southern, it is education time. Virginia, North Carolina and Florida were all red states. They were all also southern states during the Civil War. That was is over so let it go. it is those who fail to see beyond color who make felony type comments like "aim well". Grow up and get with the more mature America. If you don't like it then leave. The great aspect of this country is that we are all free to make our own choices. As you can see, the majority chose to rally behind our new president elect. Give the man his respect. He earned it. Can you say the same? did you try to see what path would allow you to run for any senate seat, representitive chair or just a mayor of a town? I seriously doubt it.
I voted for Mr Obama. I believe he cares. I also believe he will do a better job than Senator McCain. I hope I am right. I also would like to say that I respect the accomplishments that Senator McCain has made. He fought hard. He fought well at the end. He did find a groove whe he went to the issues instead of the smear. Each man has his faults..who doesn't? I also believe each man ran hard. Mr Obama was just better organized and supported by more donors. I don't think either ever said to us to vote based on color. Did you hear, see or read a statement that quoted them uttering that? That I doubt too.
