flying-emu so how is it that everything is pinned on the president in office plz

If you had read into my post, you would have noticed that I said "political figurehead". This means he is the head, the leader. The scapegoat, if you will. While Congress goes about, doing the wishes of the tobacco and oil lobbyists (yes, I realize I likely misspelled that), the President takes the fall. If you took the time to realize this, then perhaps your whole argument thus far would be null and void. Or you'd be too much of a pigheaded fool to stop. Either way, I bid you good day.

"The one true god"... when was the last time god made you a promise? what makes your god any more true then any other religion's god? I say take the message of hope from a man who intends to do something about it instead of waiting for god to "make everything ok". Obama didn't win because of his advertising, Obama won because of his message. Most people don't care about substance, 46% of America voted for Palin... clearly they don't care about substance, intelligence, or qualifications. People often do not do things for the right reason, and perhaps this didn't this time either, but if that is the case as least they slipped on a beneficial mistake. Obama will be good for this country... Religion has nothing to do with it, believe what you want, but take responsibility for the here an now, if there is a god, he isn't going to do jack *** for you or anyone else on this earth, YOU need to make your reality, YOU need to be an agent of change, and hope. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I think Americans all need to understand that whether or not anyone "deserves" to be president is truly only a rhetorical question, because it can only be answered once that indivual presidency has ended. It's answered in the legacy that a president leaves behind. John McCain's greatness, and the footprint he will leave on this country has already been made, and it's one of honor, service, and dedication of the highest degree. John McCain did not lose the election because of John McCain, or anything he did throughout his campaign. Barak Obama won because the majority of voters felt that he might be that rare individual who comes along with the will, the drive, and the humility to stand on the shoulders of greatness, including the likes of John McCain, to unite and lead this country in the direction that follows the tracks made by the best of the best who came before him. I wouldn't argue with anyone who said that the accomplishments John McCain has made in his life DO make him the better man today. That said, I also believe McCain to be a gracious and insightful enough man to recognize that to be the reason Obama was elected. John McCain has already proven that he is not, and never has been, a self-serving, arrogant, or pretentious human being. The concession speech he gave last night was without a doubt the most genuine and gracious I've heard from any candidate in my lifetime. I seriously doubt that he agrees with any of the venomous and spiteful comments that are being made by some. More than most of us, John McCain has spent a lifetime doing everything right. He is, and shall always remain, the epitome of a true American hero. Sarah Palin is not to blame either, and although I personally am not a fan, I think the ridicule and criticism she's endured needs to just stop. It wasn't that funny when it started, and it's become tiresome and downright disgusting. Obama and Biden won, but McCain and Palin most certainly didn't "lose". I only hope that the Democrats and Republicans alike will step up now and recognize this for what it COULD be, by doing their part to model themselves more after both candidates in this election, and start weeding out the ones who are only in it for what they can get for themselves.

so obama's Message of Hope. I pray our hope is in the one true God my Savior Jesus Christ. Dont put your hope in what the president has spoken. Hope in God alone. Stand on his never changing Word. God keeps his promises. man will let you down. Trust in God not in a man. God is able to turn this nation around if we will repent of our evil doings.

I'm a Christian, to put that argument to the side. And I'd like to point out that, if God really doesn't want us to do things for ourselves, solve our own problems, then he wouldn't have given us free will. I believe that God endowed us with a sense of free thought, so that we could make our own choices. God doesn't lead you; he gives you strength. God will not lead this country to safety; those who are strong will, whether they are His followers or simply those who are strong.

ericvdm it doesn't matter how much something is advertised , if you don't like it , the commercial is just a reminder of how much.
His glamorus speeches have nothing to do with why he is respectedhe and around the world . It is what he say's not how he says it
to suggest otherwise is insult me and our new president

Could this be the sequel: Jimmy Carter II? Who will play the part of Ronald Reagan in four years? All those who wanted change, well get ready. The old saying of "Be careful what you ask for, you might get it" is ringing loud right now. All the college kids who voted for Obama without truly understanding the consequences are going to feel it when they go job hunting. LOL. I have no hard feelings toward Obama, he did run a flawless campaign. My hard feelings are toward the liberal do nothing Congress of Pelosi and Reid and how they hung it all on George Bush. Now the truth shall be exposed as they will not have him to blame. Oh yes, they will point back, but to no avail. The American People will see them for what they are.

It is incredibly DISTURBING how supporters of Obama - including the media - have elevated him to the level of Messiah. It is disturbing to hear reports of black voters saying they voted for their "brother" but can't quantify the reasons why he would be a better president - other than he's a symbol of hope and change. Gag. Can we please have a moratorium on the words "hope" and "change"? And when did setting a prescedent become more important than selecting a qualified candidate?!?!?

The most heartwrenching part of this election, was Senator McCain's concession speech. I have seen many politicians that were angry for losing, or just didn't give a hoot. However, this was not the case with Senator McCain. John McCain is not one to hide his emotions, his love for this country is so honest and his only concern is serving this nation. All who have been mocking, ridiculing and insulting this fine man, should take a good hard look at themselves. We, Americans, are always complaining our politicians don't listen and are in politics for the money. It is disheartening when we have a public servant, such as John McCain, and don't appreciate the military sacrifices and political changes he has accomplished in his career. Politicians of his character and integrity are few and far between. President-Elect Obama has some big shoes to fill.

Well said. John McCain made me proud to be an American. He inspired me to appreciate what we have--what others like him have been willing to sacrifice so that I can be free. We are spoiled here in America. We don't have it that bad. We should appreciate that we are lucky enough to live in this great country. John McCain is a true American Patriot. There aren't many like him anymore...

Couldn't we all decide to work for a better America? Why do we have to nitpick and slander? Isn't the whole goal to make America as proud and strong as it once was? Or maybe we just want to bitch and moan?
I am making my choice, and frankly I don't care who was elected. Stand up do the right thing get off your lazy ass and make America strong again, George W has bee nsuch a frigging joke.
We had an incredible number of people come out and vote.
Can't we build on that? People who actually give a damn?

    • Posted By: km75 @ 11/05/2008 9:17:44 PM

you ask us to stop wih the nitpicking and slander and then call President Bush a frigging joke...maybe you should take your own advice

Obama was elected by the American people, not by Democrats and disallusioned Republicans that were tied down and forced to read the New York Times. It's time to move on folks, or at least take those Gore or Bush stickers off the bumpers of your cars now. Sour grapes make for lousy wine.

This election wasnt won by any party. It was won by our very liberal biased news media and female daytime talk show hosts. Unfortunatly. the other 48% of Americans will have to suffer along side of the rest who refused to tell the truth or accept it.. I have heard today about angry Republicans. Don't you dare put me in a box. I am a very angry American , that we are so ignorant that we would put a muslim with extremist ties in the white house. How stupid can we be??? This wasnt about race or party. It's about keeping America free, safe, and out of harms way. Political correctness is a thing of the past. We wont have to worry about offending one another. We'll have to worry about seeing out of the two holes cut out of a black sheet or we'll be beheaded. WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: ThirdPartyGal @ 11/05/2008 9:03:31 PM

It is too late. The liberals have just put an irresponsible version of George Bush into the White House. Instead of educating the public, the media played into the smoke & mirrors that Obama brought to the table. While it is great that he is African American & I like this unique ethnicity in the White House, I believe our country has just died. America had a cancer that began long before Bush took office. The cancer that began decades back has driven this country to blindly electing a man into office for all the wrong reasons. Whether it was media bias influence, ethnicity, or a protest vote against the Republican Party (which only hurt the nation when McCain was not elected) ??? the one thing America forgot to do was educate each other with facts vs. fiction. America forgot that *change isn???t a word in a speech, it is action. McCain is the one who acted on his own drive and ambition, the one who has experience that qualified him as a president, and he is the true maverick we needed to survive. But America bought into the charade games that Obama brilliantly played & we have now gone over the cliff. Our voters who have no education just buried us. As I said, I appreciate Obama???s ethnicity. I just feel that he is the worst candidate to be elected into the White House because he only delivers false hope & I am sorry that African Americans have Obama as the first candidate in their ethnic group. Kudos to America for giving Obama a chance as the party nominee. Shame on America for not seeing through the media hype. There are many qualified African Americans who can run for president. I truly wished that someone more experienced & better qualified would be the one to make it to DC as the first president of the African American race. It is a sad day. ???We the People??? have lost.

I agree with you 100%..the facts about Barak Hussain Obama were all over the internet for each to read. He is more like a new superstar that came out that had NOTHING to do with his ability to be comander in chief. He lies, won't answer questions about his past, has and is friends with terroists. This was not about race or party, it was strictly about stupidity..but watch what you say or he will have you investigated like "Joe the Plummer"!!!!

Reading these comments is truly a chore. Last night the American people made history, we voted without a doubt for a black man that had a message of HOPE. For those people looking for a reason why Obama won, think back to a message that your candidate left you with. I watched all the debates, read all the factcheck articles, listend to all the speeches from both sides...I even watched Huckabee. I made a decision based on knowledge, my kids and grandkids future, the fact that I don't want and can't afford to pay rising premiums for insurance because so many people can't pay anything and drive the cost up for all others, the fact that I would like to retire at a resonable age in resonable comfort, but most of all I voted for HOPE. Obama said on national tv that he would make mistakes, he would work hard and needed OUR help.
America is about just that, we can respect someone who makes a mistake, we can respect someone that doesn't have all the answers but knows where to get them or iat least willing to try, we can respect anyone with a message of HOPE. This country was built on HOPE! Why is it so hard to figure out WHY he was elected? If there was any other message out there it didn't reach 52% of America. I for one don't think that being a POW is a qualification or entitlement for presidency. I admire John McCain, he is a war hero.
For those of you worried about the military I suggest you read some news...they are lowering the military presence THIS month, I'm pretty sure it is not an Obama directive. Remember the message was about HOPE and UNITY lets try and be reasonable adults, lets try to all get along, we have serious problems, griping about them is not going to fix it, if it bothers you so much I thin that is a sign for you to get up, get out and do something about it rather than complain. I know I am not willing to run this country, I have enough trouble keeping track of my kids and bills, I am happy to let someone else do it. I'm just glad to be rid of the cowboys, I say lets let the geeks try!

It is incredibly DISTURBING how people (including the media) have elevated Obama to the level of Messiah, practically. It is disturbing to hear that black voters choose to vote for black candidates, but can't specify any more reason other then "change". Can we please have a moratorium on the words "hope" and "change"?!? Setting a prescedent is the most ridiculous reason to vote for any candidate.

Isn't it funny how less than half of the comments on this page have anything to do with the article and our all about people hating each other and bickering about stupid things. What a waste of time and effort. oh and I support Obama.
