Obama is a socialist (more than Bush?), he's going to endanger the troops (more than sending them into a pointless Iraq war?), he's going to raise taxes (perhaps he should just continue to borrow from the Chinese, like the current administration?). These and more silly rants coming to a comment section near you. America has an opportunity to become the leader of the free world, not a bully and torturer. It has the chance to become a land of hard working, well educated people that it was BEFORE the Reagan "revolution," as well as after. Hopefully, the crackpots will fade away soon, and we can get back to the real business of America. My only gripe with McCain is that he fell into the hate and fear-mongering that is destroying America's reputation abroad and integrity as home. Why don't all you misinformed numskulls take the next boat out of here? --you're not American enough for me.

Today was the end of an era???and I, for one, feel sad.

To those who saw his concession speech, I hope that you were moved. I
know that I was. What I???no, what we saw there was no production, no
act. It was written by others, but it was delivered by John McCain. He
showed who he is. He showed what he meant. He showed how much he had
    sacrificed.

Because John McCain didn't hesitate to show his emotions to everyone
watching. We saw it all???his fear, his sadness, his dignity, his love,
his devotion. Who he was became visible, if only for the slightest of
moments???it was as clear as the tears in his eyes.

He became the real John McCain, the one shoved away for the
conservatives, for his campaign. He was once again the maverick, the
man who did what he felt was right and led by example. And he was
genuine. He congratulated his opponent for winning, took the blame for
    losing upon himself.

And every time he paused to quiet down the crowd???his fans, his
supporters???his face became drawn, his shoulders squared more than
normal. His voice turned harsh. He was no longer mollycoddling them.
For he was no longer a politician serving himself???he was an American
    serving his country.

He did not pause to accept praise. He did not pause to pay himself
compliments. He did not stop to belittle his opponent's victory. He
stopped to do what few others could do in the spotlight???to shift
    attention away from himself.

Because he knew that it wasn't about him anymore. It was about
America. And he was doing his duty.
That's what John McCain has always been about. And now, it's over.

John McCain will never again be able to run for President. His dream,
his hope, his ambition???he knows that that has to be thrown away. It is
a terrible loss to lose a dream???but he took it and threw it away
himself. His private moment of sadness was spent in front of the
camera, because he knew that the sooner he helped heal the divide from
the campaigns, the sooner America would heal.

He knew what needed to be done, and he knew that he could only
continue to serve his country by accepting defeat and submitting to
Barack Obama. So he did it, as was his duty.

John McCain is done. He might be a Senator for a while longer; he
might even be able to help pass more legislation to help more
Americans. But age, a constant question in this campaign, is creeping
up on him, and retirement seems more and more likely. His era is over.
What he represented???that maverick spirit???has been used up. It is time
for all of us to move on.

There is a silver lining to the end of this era. Perhaps with him
gone, with his quest over and his dream thrown away, the change that
he hoped for can be effected. Perhaps the maverick will never again be
needed precisely because politicians are now willing to reach across
the aisle and embrace the other side.

That is what John McCain would have wanted.

Comment: if everyone remembers when all the democratics got in, everything started going wrong with the economy and stuff like that...remember demos are going to drive this country into the ground. and get over interviews all the blacks on tv about obamarack...i mean face it, it was a racial vote. i dont care what anyone says everyone knows the truth, he's black and useless like the rest, he wont do a thing for this country except get us all killed and all u demos will be running and all i have to say it was your vote, you wanted him so live with it and get over it. soon we will all parish
    =========
I'm sure we will "parish" eventually. Do your research before you post; the fact is more white people voted for Obama than they did fo rKerry. 43% of white people voted for Obama vs. 57% for McCain. If you break it down by age then it gets even more telling. A whopping 54% of all white voters under 30 voted for Obama. Your argument is based on flawed assumptions and thus is invalid.

The problem is not that he is black, but that he is a liberal Democrat. Being black, helped him to skip 10-20 years in office, which unthinkable for white, but id does not make him moe smart or stupid than ordinary liberal Democrat. And don't worry, 4 yers is not enough to destroy America, but enough to cure people from liberals for bext 20 years (like after Carter).

There are few very serious problems which need serious attention now, otherwise this crisis never ends. These are problems which true "changes" have to resolve, otherwise in 10 years USA will move to third wrold:
    1. 5-10 times overpriced medical bills (compare with Europe, if you don't believe). Only one solution - forbif medical insurance (except, probably, for Hospital care). Both candidates were far from there, but Obama has the worst idea - provide more clients for those HBOs.
    2. Overpriced lawyers, tightly linked to artificially messed laws and regulations (taxes, for example). Some smart Republicans (not Bush friends) have some good ideas, such as flat taxes, restrictions of lawyers fees on days basis, etc. I never heard anything like this fron Democrats - you know, they even want to make taxes more complicated.
    3. Mortgages. This is one area where Goverment has to regulate, by giving mortgages directly to qualified people. Those good motgages could be used as monew which Goverment may cell or lend to banks. We did not hear any of a kind from Obama, just opposite, he want to buy bad mortgages to "help" penniless homeowners.
    4. Education. Why we spend more than anybody on edication and have far worst students? Money is not the answer, or approach is rotten. Obama is again all about money.
    5. Immigrarion. If we pay illegal immigrants bigger and bigger chunk of our income - we will soon be as poor as they are. Obame definitely will 'help".
    6. Oil. If we drill, in 3-5 years we will be able regulate world oil price, even with 5% of oil output. Guess in what Century Democrats will allow drilling?

Obama's "changes" obiously will not allow solve the smallest part of these problems.

what caused this crisis? A modern/updated version of the american dream...5% of word population consuminng 30% of world's resources and most of its savings to finance its glutonous and irresponsible consumption and still feeling hard done by the rest of the world. now that is faith.

McCain almost proved the Peter Principle. As a senator he is very good. He actually works across the isle, something which has not indeered him to many Republicans. Of course, the guy that won has zero history of working across the isle. Actually, he has nearly zero senate history. So much for experience being a criteria. But McCain is a good senator. I hope he can work on campaign finance reform to keep the Repub..., oops, sorry, I mean Democrats from buying another office again. That sure will be hard to change to. Usually it's the Republicans who are accused of buying an office. Didn't hear to many complaints from the Democrats about that this time around. I guess it's OK to buy your way in when it's your party doing the buying, not when it's the other guys. Oh well. We have chosen the lesser of 2 evils.
BTW, does "Jessica the Moocher", ref You Tube" count the same as "Joe the Plumber"?

      Underdog,

This is a proof of excellent financial management but since you are a type of a person who cannot accept the truth you suggested the other way. You add up sound management and high tech that is the result. the majority had spoken!

      NWarrowhead,
And so, the red states woudl allow what you are suggesting? Please....

Bigotry will never get over with their feelings. There are not enough words even based on reality that will satisfy their ignorance.

  • Posted By: bighappy @ 11/05/2008 10:30:48 PM

So you want change, hah? Guy who has no idea of economy (sory one idea - redistribution of wealth), who got from thin air $1 bil on his campain (don't be fooled, big guns and probably mafia arranged this money for him, because they want and will get big Goverment bailout, right from your pockets). And how in the world could unknown pretty ordinary man lose elections 3 year ago, win Senate 2 years ago, and win free President elections now??? Definitely it is a political world record, ahead of Putin. There are several things I wish to be changed, but he himself does not have any particular plans except general "change". Who will advise him, did you hear about any smart economists and diplomats in his circle, except those with Socialistic ideas? You fools gambled on America, and now it is time to pay the price. Good luck to survive for next 4 years, to vote for Guliany.

The thing that bothers me is the left-wing mainstream 100% biased socialist media propaganda machine gift wrapped the Presidency for Barack Hussein Obama and thats the plain truth.

A zombie could have run for President and won with this one-sided favoritism. Think about it.

So we highlight McCain's mis-steps which certainly seem to be accurate. But one thing that he cannot be faulted on is his leadership, as exemplified in his proactive attempt to jump into the problem and look for solutions.

By contrast, we now have President Elect Obama, and the question now is what are his solutions to these economic problems? What will he do when faced with the reality of budget surpluses that will smack down his large and utopian social agenda?

In other words, now is the time for solutions and given the Democratic game plan of obstruct, criticize, and delay, how will he chart a new course that calls for action and solutions? Maybe the MSM should have been focusing on these questions rather than on highlighting the mistakes of McCain.

I think there was something wrong with the new poll machines, if you voted Republican you were actually voting Democrat, and if you were voting Democrat you were actually voting Republican. The card that they gave you to use the poll machine the barcodes were backwards. Needs to be checked into and revoted. Something is not right with these numbers. Contact your voter administration and check to see what comes up as to who you voted for. I am sure they have a record of it.

Yes...all of the above ...Joe the Plumber was the final straw....almost like the movie "Being There" with Peter Sellers as the village idiot taken seriously as if what he had to say was gospel. Unbelieveable. Worse still was the knee jerk pick of Sarah Palin for VP.....so many potentially good candidates left on the shelf. If these were the only kind of decisions John McCain was capable of making under pressure (and he was under pressure) I didn't want him leading our Country. The election of Obama will change the world view of America, and even though I don't support some of his policies as good for me, I think overall he will begin the healing process and help to bring us out of this mess that greed and the quest for the almighty dollar has gotten us into. YES WE CAN!

These are the same reasons which got Jimmy Carter elected. Oh how I long for the days of double digit unemployment and interest rates at 19 % But, we felt better electing him

maybe if senate roll calls weren't done alphabetically McCain might have gone "Rogue"... When I heard Reid (I think) call for the senate bailout vote in alphabetical I thought McCains fate was sealed.

Anyway, a key element to perception of the candidates is how it was handled my the MSM. For example, they could have easily portrayed McCain in touch, a "doer". a man of action when he returned to Washington and Obama as unsure, nervous, hesitant, inexperienced when he said "Call me if you need me"

It was interesting that Obama got play on both sides of the street... for example he flamed McCain's reassuring statement on the economy and heightened fears of the financial crisis but, he was said to be the one who showed calmness and reassurance. Obama's continued attacks on McCain's "fundamentally strong" statements certainly helped along the fears of americans and assisted in crashing the market.

    • Posted By: veer5 @ 11/05/2008 4:11:53 PM

McCain was wrong on the rush back to Washington to assist with the problem. Anyone who has been in business knows that the kiss of death is to horn in on a project that others have tirelessly been working on thereby giving the perception (which in the end is reality) that you are planning to take credit for something you had no part in. It was part of the reason the bill didn't pass the first time around....a very costly mistake. The only business McCain & Obama had in DC was to vote on the final product.
