Here's a tip for the "rising star" in the GOP. In order to get your party back in order to the real values of the Republican party; Fiscal responsibility, smaller gov; etc the Party needs to stop following the ideals of the neoconservatives. Stop pandering to your narrow minded religious base.

He can't change the Neo Con part. It's his schtick.

Cantor is an embarrassment to central Virginia, and although my representative, does not represent me. He was handpicked to be the successor to a good representative (Bliley) and never had a strenuous campaign. He played politics with the economy by complaining about Pelosi's speech instead of focusing on the bailout. He's rubber-stamped Bush's policies since day one, and - lest we forget - he DID have a sandwich named after him at Jack Abramoff's deli. Not exactly a great rep for VA.

He is a complete Neo Con, all up in JINSA AIPAC and the rest of those crews He is a pox in the GOP fold.

Let's unite behind our new elected President and avoid to listen to the negativism of losers such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'reilly. They are not helping the country, they are dividing us just to get a good rating. They are not going thru the rough economic times that we the mainstream Americans are going thru because they are millionaires. Same with Glenn Beck and other dividers. Please, let's be the USA.

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 11/06/2008 12:57:07 PM

Let me guess. For the good of the country the radio guys you mentioned should be removed from the radio. Seems you failed to mention a few from the left that are on TV on a regular basis. It makes me shutter to think without these guys we would have to rely on the main stream media to inform us. Such as NBC. They have cost themselves some much toeing the Obama line during this election. I can not believe this will pay off for them in the long run.

      • Posted By: Braes @ 11/11/2008 12:44:05 AM

Oh heck no, I do not want them removed from radio at all. That would be censorship. I just do not listen to them, and ignore their rants when they are on shows I might watch, as guests. Of course that doesn't apply to Rush since he can't travel without notifying his probation officer. Hannity and O'Reilly aren't worth my time.
No I want them keeping their base in line. Stationary targets are easier. Their poltics is going nowhere.
Censorship would remove them from the intellectual firing range. These people would not have been invited to William F. Buckley's cocktail parties. They aren't real conservatives, they are carnival barkers.

So you think that if i make over a certain amount of money i should share it?? It was $250,000, but Obama has changed that already several times. My husband has worked his tail off for 30 yrs. to make us financially comfortable. I need to pay more taxes to help people get double the current amount of welfare
while they sit on their butss and do not even attempt to get a job?? And pay more taxes so welfare chicks can keep having more babies out of wedlock to receive money. For those who truly need help, that is fine. But i refuse to pay for the deadbeats!!

      • Posted By: Doc Howl @ 11/10/2008 2:46:05 PM

Please post evidence that Obama is raising taxes so he can increase welfare.

        Thanks.

Our unemployment rate is so high that anytime someone gets a job, it means someone else will not be able to get a job. I hate it when I hear people rant about someone who doesn't "even get a job" like there were sufficient jobs just waiting to be had.

  • Posted By: falcon1952 @ 11/06/2008 11:22:37 AM

I know this is not on the topic, but most these comments aren't anyway. This has turned into a flame war between Obama and McCain supporters. I may as well weigh in with my last comment of the morning. I have been an observer of human behavior for a long time. This is in no way a blanket statement or meant to infer a sterotypical label. After observing the different campaign rallies for both sides along with reading most of these post election comments I have come to this conclusion. John McCain supporters are probably the same people you'd find at a tractor pull, shooting some defenseless animal, or perhaps attending a WWF wrestling match, along with totally eliminating any punctuation from their posts. In stark contrast, Obama supporters seem to be logical, sensible, anti-war and possibly spend too much time reading.

    • Posted By: n2deep2008 @ 11/06/2008 11:27:59 AM

Logical? Sensible? Have you read or heard some of the personal attacks that came from some of the Obama supporters? Im all for an open discussion on the issues but when I turns personal, that's not cool.

      • Posted By: falcon1952 @ 11/06/2008 11:31:06 AM

"I'm" and "I turns personal"?, I rest my case.

        • Posted By: n2deep2008 @ 11/06/2008 11:35:16 AM

I'm just saying that I have heard a lot of horrible things coming from Obam supporters. As well as McCain ppl. There were a lot of personal attacks that went out that had nothing to do with the issues.

Most educated people are rather amused at the "Bush-bashing". It took a real leader to stand up to terrorism. All Democrats supported it. But as usual, the Dems wanted a quick win, the same as the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. When are people going to realize that the Dems are what make America weak. The terrorists wanted Obama to win because they know that an Obama presidency is the same as giving them permission to do what they want because there will no longer be anyone to stop them. We will get hit again. I can see it coming. And the little B.S.-artists that call themselves Dems will have no one to blame but themselves. The difference is that I will no longer be in uniform to fight this battle. I quit during Clinton. I came back for Bush. I quit now. I no longer wish to serve a "self-serving" nation.

GOD's judgement was swift and decisive! After using GOD to win elections and telling people that only Republicans are Christians for the last 8 years, GOD has put the party of "family values" in exile to wonder around the wilderness! And as a punishment he gave them a BLACK PRESIDENT with a foriegn name! Who said GOD doesn't have a sense of humor! After dividing the country and using hot button issues like "abortion" and "gay rights" for years to get elected but never doing anything once they were in power about it! They are getting everything they deserve! After people like Jesse Helms used racial charged comericals to defeat Harvey Gant the G. O. P. is getting everything they deserve! Am I my brothers keeper? No! According to BUSH, let those poor people die in New Orleans, they should have left before the hurricane got there! Why are the loons on the far right calling OBAMA the anti-christ, these so called Christians don't know their own BIBLE! Show me in the new testatment where America has anything to do with the end time? People are talking about the OBAMA supporters will be sorry with in a year for voting for him. Let me ask these loons one question. How lokng did it take before your were sorry you voted for BUSH? Only took me 9 months to say "see I told you"! I bet you anything OBAMA won't keep reading "MY PET GOAT" for 7 minutes while our country is under attack! Say what you want about President OBAMA but just like someone told me, if you don't support the President you are ANTI-AMERICAN! Take your own medicine! The Party of Reagan is dead and we are no longer under conservative rule! Get over it!

    • Posted By: patte79 @ 11/06/2008 12:38:37 PM

Oh please, get a grip! I am sorry but Obama will never be "my president". He is in support of partial-birth abortion and no medical care for babies who survive an abortion. He wants to weaken our military and play nice with all the countries who would love to see us fall. We will be attacked again. God allowed Obama to win because our country has turned its back on God and this is our wake-up call. I am not anti-american, but feel like Obama and his wife are as are their good friends, Ayers and Rev. Wright.

"Oh please, get a grip! I am sorry but Obama will never be "my president"."

Um, yes he will. You may not like it, but he is in fact the president. The only way he won't be your president is if you emmigrate to a foreign land, and surrender your passport.

Best get cracking. You'll have to be done by January 20th, or he'll be your president, and we can't have that.

      • Posted By: summer1216 @ 11/08/2008 11:24:23 AM

You need to do your fact-ckecking on the partial birth abortion support. Part of the huge change in this election was the fact that not only outright lies, but also statements taken out of context, and snippets of information without the complete picture or the background information did not gain traction when used as attack points. The reason for this was the Internet. Voters could look up for themselves the facts surrounding charges being tossed about. This is one charge that does not stick, once the full facts are known. In fact, it is pitiful that people keep tossing it into the ring. I believe we are entering a new era of politics where we actually will debate the issues because baseless smears won't work any more!

My view, very simple. The people of the u.s. were tired of all the crud. Obama knew and played on not only that ,but the lack of knowledge of the people of our Country. What I don't understand is how we as the people voted for a person who has so much common ground with people that are against . The U.S. Economy, that will be the least of our worries when all the Countriesof the people he's affiliated with come against us. I very strongly feel that Obama and his people will be on tthier p's and q's for the first four years until they possition all our enemies. Then when the poeple of the U.S. re-elect him , then is when we will see attackes on the U.S. of great prportions. Maybe even the U.S. placed him there . But we know there was a similar situation with Hussane and he turned on us. What makes our Country think we can trust anyone who is affiliated with terrorist We have been wrong every time our Country has done something like thisand have paid a price. Maybe this Country needs an all out WAR to break out here in our back yard and come back to our grass roots and embrace and appreciate our freedom. By the way, the campaigning that his people ran was ingeniousI give them that. We need to learn fom that.

    • Posted By: Bronco two @ 11/06/2008 12:11:54 PM

It's not going to take four years for our enemies to see how weak obama is. That's why all the other countries that hate us love this guy.

Cantor did not go on and whine about the bailout. He said there was senseless pork in it, and it should not be passed. He was right. His ony problem is that he voted for the second bill. All of it was unnecessary, as the markets have not responded at all. Not that it is a quick fix, but the drops in the market reveal much.
    .
People who denegrate Eric Cantor showcase their own lack of intelligence. You may not agree with his political philosoplphy; that is your choice, however, he is obviously far mor inteiilgent than his detractors. Make no mistake, he is extremely bright. I do not agree fundamentally with anyting Barack Obama stands for, however, he is an intelligent man. He will be in a position of pwoer sooner than you think, and he represents the majority in this country. Do not think for one minute that the independents and Reagan Democrats will follow a liberal agenda. They gave Obama thier vote, and they will take it away if he goes back to his liberal past. But that does not speak to his intelligence, just his political philosophy. Grow up people,. Your rantings and hate spewed comments reveal much about you, and it is not a pretty sight.

It is the abnormally anal and overtly vain ideals of the Republicans in this country that have made the rest of the world look at us with disdain. If you want to live in a pompous, "we are better than everyone else" society, maybe the republicans should go find an island somewhere and live amongst yourselves. The rest of the US will do just fine without your input.

It goes beyond hard work to earn a decent wage and have a good standard of living.

He allowed Obama to win fair and square because this country needs to learn a lesson. It is going to be a hard lesson. our great nation was founded on our trust in God and we have forgotten that. The abortion issue is not my only problem with Obama. I would love it if he proved me wrong . But until he can clearly define his "changes " i am very skeptical. And by the way...i am not ignorant. I find it funny that you have already decided why God allowed Obama to win. How about he won because he was the best candidate? How about he won because after eight years of a CIO (Christian in name only) administration which squashed the poor, having someone who himself admitted didn't know how the economy worked was not the best thing for this country. How was his running VP supposed to help when she didn't even know Africa was a continent?

I don't think God is teaching us a lesson. I think he spared us.

I am neither republican no democrat....just simply an American with commensense views, I believe. It definitely perplexes me that republicans who profess themselves as Christians and put their one sticking point on who they will vote for on the issue of abortion. I have often wondered how the republican party can fight for an unborn child to take his first breath and then turn around and fight to take his last breath if he is convicted of a crime and is sentenced to the death penalty and vice versa for democrats. My belief is that ALL life is sacred. I believe that we as a nation will grow stronger when we are able to place differences aside and simply campaign and do what is right for the country as a whole instead of running on these platforms of division. If we are to be realistic, we must accept the fact that neither the death penalty no abortion would be totally abolished because when Clinton had a democratic congress and house and mostly democratic court, the death penalty was not overturned and when Bush was presented with the same circumstances in re to abortion it too was not abolished. These two issues are Human Rights issues that will not or can not be fixed through a political party affiliation. Those of us who are Christians, Republican, Independent or Democrat need to remember that God is all inclusive and no party has a stronghold on righteousness. Ask yourselves....What Would Jesus Do.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/08/2008 7:23:53 PM

Good point. I'd add, how many of pro-life conservatives actually adopt children? I know many conservative households who are very dear to me but none ever adopt a child, and with health care and the economy the way it is, chances are they won't. Also, why oppose sex education, the morning-after pill and welfare if these are the things that actually reduce unwanted pregnancies and abortions.

The conservative platform is riddled with contradictions.

  • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/08/2008 7:01:09 PM

"All of a sudden you hear Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and Chuck Schumer talk about the middle class as if the Democrats own the middle class issue," he said. "The middle class is, really was, our playing field. That's how Ronald Reagan came into power, that's how Newt Gingrich came into power, is to stick up for the working families ??? If nothing else, we couldn't get the message out. Look, Barack Obama ran as a
    conservative."

Until Republicans get a semblance of logical thought, they are not going anywhere. All we heard in this campaign is that Obama was a socialist, and now he ran as a conservative? The GOP lost the Middle Class because after 28 years of Reganomics (minus 8 from Clinton) the middle class realized that the GOP is out to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Bush talked a middle class game but favored the rich, time and time again.

Republicans need more than fear and "godless liberals" to run against, they need a platform. Reganomics ain't cutting it, that ship has sailed and Cantor, from what little I've seen of him looks like more of the same.

  • Posted By: summer1216 @ 11/08/2008 10:37:21 AM

Contrary to Mr. Cantor's final statements in this article, the middle class has NEVER been the focus of the Republican Party. The whole trickle-down economics stance places the middle class as an afterthought, people who might get lucky if the largess thrown to the wealthy overflows enough that they might get some too. The emptiness of this whole theory has recently become glaringly apparent.

I've heard this Cantor character speak many times before on several TV networks. He's an unapologetic far right wing holier than thou type. His snarky, patronizing, condescending, look down his nose at anyone that doesn't subscribe to his extreme right wing views manner of speaking is right out of the Bush/Cheney playbook. His type is EXACTLY what was repudiated by this election. He is exactly the type of "anyone who doesn't agree with me is against me as well as stupid and anti-american too" Republican that was turned out emphatically by this past election. If he's the republicans next whip they will get NO WHERE with this congress and the American people.

As a resident of Cantor's district and a Republican (as most in his district are), I have to say that I have never voted for Eric Cantor, nor do I particularly trust, like or agree with him. He does indeed represent the self-satisfied, condescending, socially conservative neoCons that have ruined the Republican Party. My stomach turns every time I hear the phrase "The Republican Brand", and Cantor is the poster boy for the term. This election (in which I voted for the first time in decades for the Democrat) should have shown the Republicans we need to stop worrying about how to brand ourselves and get down to th business of doing what is right for America.

Hmmm...so the future leadership of the Republican party is a whiny punk who got beat around by Chris Matthews on Hardball, then vpted against his own presidential candidate because Nancy Pelosi hurt his feelings on the Senate floor with a mean speech...

The news keeps getting better and better...

As a citizen in Cantor's district I worry if Eric Cantor is being considered a 'rising star.' His voting record reflects the failed ideals and positions that have contributed to the dire situation this country is currently in. He has voted "NO' "on tax incentives for energy production and conservation, on tax incentives for renewable energy and on investing in homegrown biofuel. (Aug 2007)."

Question? Why should everyone in your area help you pay for adding for example solar panels to your roof? I would like to add them to my roof also but after looking into it they are way to expensive to ever pay off. I have no problem with the government investing into researching to improve the tech.. But that is it!

The intention of my comment was to give readers a source to research Congressmen Cantor???s record, since the article was focused on his personality etc. I would much rather my tax dollars go to investing in helping neighbors invest in alternative energy sources than to continue subsidizing big oil (which Cantor has supported).

Give me a break...The GOP are filled liers and chatters. They want big bussiness and big money breaksfor the rich. They do not care for the poor and middle class.

Lies are told all the time by the GOP party and they have no heart or soul at all for the everyday people in this country and the world. The GOP think of nothing but hate and wars. They fiqure send the uneducate and poor off to war and get rid of them. It is the least we can do to rid of them. After all they have serve the rich of this country and clean their houses and give them nothing.
Ship our jobs oversea's because it cheaper over sea's to make the product and they don't have to give us more money or health insurance this. This is how the GOP works

Typical democrat reply. I see you think for yourself.

Gosh, I didn't know the rules when I sent my rich, educated republican son off to war. Hopefully they don't find out that he doesn't belong and kick him out!

        Wow Bronco two.
