I am an entreprenural small businessperson that has created jobs and wealth over the past 15+ years. I am now taking a sabitical until I am confident that I will have some control over the destiny of any new wealth I create for myself or my future employees. I refuse to do it to have it taken away for a politicians pet priorities.

Julie the job maker, are you sure you are not a genuine as Joe the Plumber? I couldn't understand why McCain kept using him as an example after he was exposed as a complete phony. I wouldn't be suprised if you are not just as phony as Joe the Plumber, I can't see anyone claiming to be an exterprenural taking a sabitical because you are aftraid of making money.

LOL - I haven't seen it in the past either, nor would I have considered it in the past, but I guarantee you'll see it a lot in the next four years!!!

Comment: Where were you when Obama said and repeated that he has NO plan to increase taxes on small businesses? What I can see is that your idea of love of country is to hide your light under a bushel so that no one else can see better from it. VERY UNCHRISTIAN! I challenge you to put your talents to work and keep on building America. If Obama is so bad for America, won't we need to keep up her strength so that our beloved country can survive Obama? Don't hide your light and your talents. A weak America will die and you will be one of those who helped to keep her weak despite your believing that she was in bad hands. How loyal are you really?

If this country wants the people who "can" to continue to "do", They need to understand the minds of the entreprenuers and small business owners. We are driven by the desire to make a difference in our communities and to help our neighbors. We have faith in our own abilities that far exceeds the faith we have in the government. We take pride in improving the lives our employees and would give the shirt off our backs for our employees and their families. We give charitable donations to civic organizations and promote volunteerism by organizing our employees. I resent a government that comes to me after all of these years of my contributions to my community and says to me , "thanks, but hand over your profits, we'll take it from here. We know better than you how to be a steward of your hard earned dollars". Seriously, have you EVER seen the government be a responsible steward of money.

You must have graduated from the same grade school as Sarah Palin. With "Republican businesspersons" such as yourself in this country no wonder we are in such a mess. Having run a small business myself prior to retirement the generation of jobs is something to be proud of but obviously your only concern is lining your pocket probably at the expense of your employees

      • Posted By: making a living @ 11/06/2008 10:59:21 AM

Obama brings hope. His definition of hope, according to his platform, is to force small businesses to offer a 401k plan. Who pays for this? The business. Similarly, a health care plan that is forced upon small businesses. No mention of allowing small businesses to consort into a group to lower premiums at all. OK, Va. Dem, I'll get elected and force you to pay into my business and I won't grant you any benefit for doing so either. Not a good definition of capitalism much less hope.

        • Posted By: Julie the Job Maker @ 11/06/2008 11:41:16 AM

I provided a full benefit package (health and 401 K) with competitive wages and a true profit share with my employees. Most of my employees, I rescued from pink collar sweat shops and taught them marketable job skills and supported their continuing education. Few ever chose to leave but when they did they where much more competitive and prepared to provide better for their families. I believe that hard working, small business folks can have a much greater impact on the families in their communities than Washington DC. Unfortunately, I am a minority.

I can'f believe people in the Republican party are still holding onto right and left. I also can't believe that they believe that they have been for the middle class. There message was there but the behavior was to move all of the wealth to the top 1% of the population. How stupid do we look. Until their behavior changes what they say won't matter. The difference Obama will rebuild the middle class. If not this will become a thrid world country. If you haven't been there in each of them there are very weatlthy people and very poor ones. NO MIDDLE CLASS.

    • Posted By: tds0766 @ 11/06/2008 9:31:22 AM

How can you believe he is actually for the middle calss? Who owns the majority of the small business in America? Middle Class Americans do, that is who. Who dos he plann on taxing to pay for all of his big plans? The small business, thats who. So who owns the small business? The middle class will suffer under this administration. PLease done be disillusioned into thinking the middle class is safe.

      • Posted By: Julie the Job Maker @ 11/06/2008 10:03:20 AM

I am one of those small business founders that has been creating jobs for over 15+ years. I no longer need to work but did anyway to continue to create jobs and stimulate the economy in my community. I sold my most recent small business and am going on sabitcal until I am comfortable that I will have some control over the destiny of any "new wealth" I create for myself and my future employees. I wont do it if it means I hand it over to Obama for his distribution priorities.

I completely understand that you owe me nothing. Nobody owes me anything. I'm only entitled to what I earn. I want no less and no more than what I achieve on my own.

Please wake up, you are dreaming. Most small businesses are owned by the middle class. So if Obama plans to tax thier businesses, how he can he be for them. HE will only hurt them. Once he taxes these businesses, they will be forced to do one of two things, pass the cost of their goods/services on to the consumer(me and you- the middle class) or close their doors. So the middle class as a whole will suffer as a result of his economic plan.

I don't usually had out comments like this but. You are an Idot! The middle class in this country is living a life style unheard of 30 years ago. Huge houses. 2,3,4 cars. Motorcycles and boats. Kids wairing $200 sneakers and clothes from Hollister and Gap. These are people working for the phone co. and power company. Small business owners and teachers, mailmen and women, your UPS and FedX workers, city and local goverment workers and on and on. The middle class in this country has over spent and under saved for years. Now tough times are here and they must and will learn to adapt to the current market place. The middle class always carries their weight. The 40% of people not paying a dam thing are the one's dragging this country down. They pay nothing and expect the most! The scads of new voters will soon learn things are not as they seem. I would be shocked if many come out to vote 2 or 4 years from now cause by then they will realise it was all a lie!

MIkeVp.....hit a home run with that comment.....Bush might not have been the best president....but 9/11, terrorist, housing issues, today's economy..thats all on slick Willy.....tax breaks that Bush gave actually made the government more profitable....he was unfortunately stuck behind bad decisions by Clinton....and started with giving tax breaks and stimulus checks to every qualified citizen.....If you dont like the break...give the money back....if you took it shut your mouths...

  • Posted By: amadoun @ 11/06/2008 12:23:51 PM

Please, Guys, stop being negative and sore losers and let's reunite around our new elected president to come out of the darkness that 8 years of Bush and the Republican party put us in. No matter the bitterness and negativities that you are going to say, there is one thing you will never be able to change: Barack Obama will be the next president of the USA. Learn to deal with it and stop being a sore loser.

    • Posted By: MikeVP @ 11/06/2008 2:04:53 PM

Ahhhhh....Bush did not do this. Congress did. I do not think who we voted for matters. But grow up and look at the real facts. Not what campaign ads or Obama said. It is very easy to state that Bush had failed policies. But as we all know...policies take a few years to work, so who then is to blame for 9/11 and the beginning of this economic troubles (over spending, credit...) CLINTON...that's who!!!

    • Posted By: keep america centrist @ 11/06/2008 12:31:35 PM

I live in his district. I am to the right of center and hope to remain so. Mr. Cantor may be "likeable' enough i.e. Sarah Palin but he is not smart, forward thinking, or creative. He attacks and divides - same old, same old. . Republicans WAKE UP! Find leaders who can create consensus, whose greatest attribute is not the ability to read a teleprompter i. e. Palin and Cantor but can actually think strategically , create consensus and impact. implementation. Let's take a page out of the Obama playbook and show our intelligence.

You obviously know nothing about Rahm Emanuel. Unfortunately, Obama's first pick in this "new and better world" is a person who cut his teeth on Chicago politics...and coming from Chicago I can tell you that Obama's pick of Emanuel will not create a consensus or even create a non-partisian environment. Too bad...I am willing to give Obama a chance but its moves like this reinforces my belief that Obama will not keep his word (i.e. telling the Illinois voiters "I will not run for President" and right after he was elected to the Senate he formed an exploratory committee on running for president....I will take public financing....until he realized how much money he was hauling in on his own and how it would hurt his campaign....)

      Dear Birdywalsh,
That is a positive posting. However, I can not for the life in me, comprehend how christians can interwove the lessons of the Bible with their voting for Obama. Obama is in favor of abortion, of infanticide. These are against God's commandments. So how can a christian turn a blind eye toward God's commandments and still go and pray for a president who opposes these values? How can a christian say that this president elect is chosen by God? Do these christians not see that God sometiems allows evil ways to take its course? If you read the Bible all the signs of times are predicted, so how come christians disregard them? These are questions that I beg you to explain to me. Thank you.

Nobody is in favor or abortion, just choice. In the end Obama is not out forcing people to have abortions, it's THEIR choice. If you're really that worried about it there are 2 things you can do. 1) Don't vote for Obama like I'm sure you didn't. 2) Go to the people actually having the abortions and convince them not too....which I'm sure is too much work for you.

Peace to all of you, I must go, I'm one of the fortunate ones that still has a job. It has been a pleasure to be part of this spirited debate. Agree, disagree, no matter, this is what America is all about. A final note, we can let our differences divide us or we can use them to unite us. The election is over, for the first time in American history a man, who just happens to be black, will take the oath of office for the presidency of the United States of America. Our country was built by people from all nations, creeds, and colors. In wars past, hispanics, blacks, whites, and other nationalities died along side each other for the preservation of our freedom. I don't doubt the love of country that each of you that posted comments here has. We love America and the passion in our comments reveals that. Some, (like me, I admit it) can be a bit more sarcastic about it, it's my way, but please believe even though I may disagree with you, I would fight to the death for your right to continue to post what you believe. That's what makes America great, when 9/11 happened for a time we all forgot what political party we belonged to, we didn't see black or white, rich or poor, gay or straight all we saw was OUR country violated. I certainly hope it's not always going to take a catastrophy of that porportion to bring us together like that once again.

g8r4ever...I agree that Bush didn't help McCain...even though I was a McCain supporter. I voted for him because he has always been a leader. He knows what we soldiers go through from day to day. He knows the worst of it from being a POW.
falcon1952 is a stereotypical wart on the face of America. I have been a soldier, serving proudly for years. I've been shot, shot at, sniped at, blown up....and still I remain. What have you done? I had the balls to do what had to be done, as did 28 of my brothers who did not come home....as have thousands of other soldiers, sailors, and airmen. I am proud, DAMN proud of what we have accomplished. It's treehugging pansy pricks like you who destroy what we are and what we stand for.

I thank you for bravely serving our country. But I don't believe we needed to go into Iraq in the first place. I have a right to that belief. You don't have the right to call me or anyone else names because of it. I am sorry for all the precious lives lost in Iraq. I think often of all the blood spilled and the gallons of tears shed by families who lost someone the love. The pain is unimagineable. To me it is such a shame. It is why war should be a last resort. We were lied to by our leaders. We were told about WMD when there were none. And if you believe the administration didn't know they were lieing, then you are naive. I will never forgive George W. Bush for all the blood that has spilled because of his decision. He has been an arrogant and immature leader. He never served our country as president, he only servied himself and his ambitions. He served his own pride. He served big oil when he could have supported alternative energy. But he was an oil man from an oil family so he was willing to spill your blood!! Dick Cheney has made a ton of money off the war. A moral leader would have sold all their stock in haliburton before the war. He made money and your fellow soldiers got their heads and limbs blown off. How can you not be angry at that? Noone is criticizing our solidiers. I am not even anti-war. A lot of us are anti this war. And we want every soldier to come back safe and unscarred.

I can see already some in the Democrat party acting the same way, Pelosi comes to mind, if that continues get ready for a good house cleaning in 2010. The American public knows the games both parties play and make no mistake we will vote you out. The concession speech by McCain and most speeches by Obama placed an air that the American public was intelligent and you can talk to us as adults. it is obvious you have no idea who drafted NAFTA, ( North American Free Trade Agreement) Mr Clinton did that, you can thank him for the jobs going overseas. You can thank big union jobs for threating to strike each time they dont get what they want. Auto workers make as much as $25 per hour or more have union mandated breakes and benefits that drive up the core cost of creating a US made car up so much US auto makers struggle to be compete. At some point commen sense needs to be used to prevent our ecomony from being destroyed from within by greedy groups and individuals whom are only concerned with what they think they deserve in stead of they should fairly earn. Thats part of the reason the housing market collapsed. Buyers borrowing more than they knew they could pay back and greedy lenders enabling them to do so. We all reap what we sow. its that simple.

    • Posted By: keep america centrist @ 11/06/2008 12:29:46 PM

I agree with most of what you say, except for NAFTA.
George HW Bush drafted NAFTA. It was Ross Perot's main talking point in the 92 campaign.
Clinton did not draft it. But he did sign it into law. Yes, the congress would have over-ridden his veto, but he is culpable because he did NOT veto it.

I view myself more as an independent, embracing the good points of both the major parties. But Bronco 2 and ArmyGruntJoe, you need to crawl out from behind your computer and come out of the basement. The radical and prejudice views you speak about are of no help to th U.S. at this time. You know people if we can live through 8 years of The Bush Administration we can survive anything. I did not vote for Geroge Bush but I never thought of the man in ways that most right conservatives think of Barack Obama. I felt like Bushes administration did more damage to his presidency than he did. What Republicans don't like about Barack Obama is that he doesn't fit their mold for what a president should be. Well guess what people over 52 million of us thought different. That is the true anthithesis of what the Republicans wanted. Now we must move on and start rebuilding our country to the level at which we can gain respect the world over.
