45 million Americans don't pay taxes. Illeagal immigrants of untold numbers use our health care and school systems and don't pay taxes. Congress - Democrats and Republicans - are funding with our hard-earned tax dollars totally outrageous programs including obscene, pornagraphic art shows and bridges to nowhere with no caps on spending in sight. Unemployment is creeping to 1 million which also requires funding from our tax dollars. We are going into debt for 700 zillion dollars borrowed (stolen) from our childrens future.( My mama taught me not to spend money I didn't have) Come on people...THERE IS NO PIE.. and not even the "messiah" Obama can make one magically appear..even tho he PRETENDS he can.."The Emperor has no clothes" (and worse) will be the mantra is four, short years. His solutions for our problems include the ancient ritual of infanticide (killing innocent babies, who have survived abortions, by puncturing their skulls) which he voted for twice while in the Illinois Senate. Problem is they are our future small business owners who would be helping him with his Social Security/Medicare bills. OOPS - I forgot - he's already a millionaire many times over. Dispose of the problem by disposing people ...not very Christian Obama.... Better read your Bible concerning what happened to evil nations that approved such things and change your opinion concerning this most heinous act sweetly titled a "termination of a pregnancy" rather than what it really is - the killing and disposing of a precious human being lovingly created by G-d.

To varacefan: Give it a rest. Your statements and sources do not stand up to scrutiny or the light of day. Your bitter logic and paranoia betray your true "dinosaur" mentality. It's time to "hang it up and see what tomorrow brings". "Please get out of the new road if you can't lend a hand; for the times, they are a changin'."

Let us wait and see if Cantor, or any other Republican shows some concern for anybody else other than themselv es and their rich friends. No longer will the poor or middlle class be fooled by slight of hand tricks or double-meaning remarks. Actions speak louder than words and we are waiting for our piece of the pie.

hopkins1952: What's funny is that you were fooled by the slight of hand tricks and double-meaning remarks. You just voted someone in simply based on his words because his has no record to speak of. You say actions speak louder than words yet you voted someone in that has done nothing but say words. So please think before you speak...

I watched Cantor speak a few times during the bailout crisis. His attitude and comments were extremely partisan and "slick." I didn't get the impression he was concerned about what was right for the country, more like what was right for him and his party. After listening to him I felt as if I needed to take a shower to wash off the slime. I was far more impressed with the statements made by Mitch McConnell. He seemed genuinely concerned with the crisis and was willing to work with "the other side" to help deal with the problem. With the condition of our country, I think we need politicians who will put the concerns of the country ahead of their own agendas.

The republican party keeps talking about getting the support of the far right base. That alienates independents like me. Also, tired of hearing the 365 days a year hate advertising by most of the AM talk radio stations and many of the cable station shows like Hannity, O'Reilly, and others. Their conversations start with something interesting, but usually end up with name calling statements with no substance. Not very bright.

username-0822, please get your facts right before you post to a site. Obama garnered only 43% of the white vote, not 61% as you claim. My source is a video from MSNBC, the link to which appears below:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/27562850#27554336

Specifically, go to the 3:08 mark in the video.

What was your source for the 61% figure that you quoted?

It amazes me that many Obama supporters seemed so intent about making this election a referendum on race. Don???t you get it? The majority of those who opposed Obama did so not because of race, but they questioned how his minimal experience qualified him to lead the greatest nation in the world.

There is no question that Obama presents himself well, but that alone does not provide the qualifications to lead our country.

    About Mr. Cantor.

All I can say is that I am glad he found again his "fiscal conservative" credentials just in time for a Democratic Administration...... Like the rest of his party, they now claim to be what they were not when they had absolute power, for six years no less!!

No dear Republicans, this Independent is not going to get you off the hook so easily. You people simply lost all credibility in my book. Unless you FIRE all of your Cantor's of the world that PRESIDED, AIDED, AND ABATED a Bush Administration that went against every thing you stood for you are just pissing in the wind as far as I am concerned.

Unless you repudiate publicly, and fire clowns and crooks such as Sen. Stevens of Alska, commentators such as Shan Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and other agents of hate you listen all day long your party is as good as road kill. I have news for your Republicans, we the Independents are sick and tired of Bull from either party. We need results not excuses, and "conversions" with only hot air behind them.

So Mr. Cantor if you want to "change" your party I suggest you resign first.

Alot of opinions out there that seem to know everything about everything. I'm sure your way is the right way and the only way; Always the critics with your oversimplistic solutions. Do you all feel better? More importantly, do you conduct your own personal lives, finances, beliefs, businesses with integrity? Do you walk your own talk? Do you take the extra steps to not litter? do you respect all life--born and unborn?
Do you work within a budget? It's just so much easier, simpler and less painful to blame an outside party.
so, until you examine your walk, perhaps your opinions are better kept to yourselves. Especially if you don't
have a full picture which is usually always evolving. Hope you all feel better about yourselves now that you have ranted and been critical and oh so wise about your won solutions and preventions. Otherwise that unity that many of you give rhetoric to , is just that.

If the GOP wants to remold itself into a viable political entity; they must take a step back and recognize what their blind party loyalty has cost this country. Loyalty to country must always come before loyalty to party. The greatness of this nation lies in Americans; not Ameri-can'ts. God bless and keep the United States of America!

We need more than two parties to really get things done in this country. Why not split into 4 or 5 - The Democratic, Republican, Conservative, Progressive and I don't know, maybe a Green Party or something to that affect. Until we change the system, nothing will get done! - at least nothing that benefits America as a country.

Keep an eye out in the upcoming years - you will see more of these parties coming out of the woodwork. But it's important that we stop tryin to get a third party in at the top level right off the bat - we will need to work from the local level and build these parties brick by brick - but it will be the future of our democracy.

Cantor's a spineless camera hog. He couldn't own up to his party's failures in interview after interview and blammed the first vote against the bailout bill on a speech by Pelosi.

  • Posted By: yourebothwrong @ 11/06/2008 9:06:08 AM

0822- you are so delusional and biased, you're talking about willie horton!!! guess what in so many terms once again after the dems fail again, the republicans will take over, and then vice versa. you see its not whether one party has the right answers, the issue is both parties dont have the right answers and when the opposing party exploit its and takes control, they wind up failing and the switch of power completes the cycle and this goes on and on and on. this will continue because most of the effort is about badmouthing the other side, and never really doing the right thing,.

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 11/06/2008 9:10:42 AM

You know I have to agree. Most Americans can't handle the truth. If you don't blow smoke up their butt they don't find you appealing. A true go getter can't stand working for the government. In government nothing ever gets done!

I find it hilarious that people try to attach skin color to this political race. It is all about color, but it's the color of money. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just plain foolish. This election was no different than any of the others. Just 8 years ago, when W. got elected people were all freaking out over how the Democratic party was in shambles and will they ever recover? I'm a Republican but what separates me from the rest is that the Republican party isn't the answer to everything anyways.

Someday voters will realize that both parties have to lay aside their differences and work together. The only time in recent history that happened was when some terrorist flew 2 jetliners into a couple of buildings in NY. Otherwise, you got these 2 greedy parties, sitting across from eachother like they were in divorce court. The assembly of the house and senate is a prime example of what's wrong with our country. Even listening to the President speak on the state of the union, you got republicans on one side and democrats on the other. God help us if they ever decided to drop the walls and actually intermingle.

Our political system is a joke. Politicians don't represent those who voted them in, they represent all the money that backs them. Every 8 years, each political party wears out their welcome in the white house. Then the chant begins for "change", "it's time to change Washington". People are stupid if they actually think Washington is going to change ever. It's been corrupt of decades, why else would the Kennedy's and the Strong Thumans of the world stay in office so long? You think they just like the view from their office?

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

  • Posted By: wbonora @ 11/06/2008 9:08:18 AM

Doesn't really matter who the Republicans pick. They need a complete overhaul from top to bottom. They need to change, come more to the center, and forget the evangelists, who are totally useless. Think of the old tired football coach, like former Washington Redskins coach who came back to coach the team 5 years ago with an 80s mentality. It didn't work, the game passed him by. He was out of touch, out of step. The Republicans need to be less conservative and more embracing of all posiitve ideas and listen to their moderate voice. Out with old - in with the new, and maybe they'll have a chance...someday

Republicans need to learn that their strict, no compromise, conservative approach (to appeal to their base) will get them no where in coming elections. America is more centrist. And while we may slide to one side or another from time to time, we will always work to move back to the center. Eric Cantor comes across as a died in the wool Ruch Limbaugh-Ann Coulter conservative. As a long time Virginia Democrat, I hope the Republican party relies on people like Cantor for leadership positions. It will gaurantee continued control of Democrats in Washington as long as they don't push too far to the left. In response to the comment on this site that the young have heads of mush and will become republicans as they wise up; responses like this comes from people who give little credit to individuals for intelligence and way of thinking. If this is true, why do more Americans register as Democrats rather than Republicans. Americans are centrists and will gravitate to the party that takes that approach to governing. As the Republicans move to being staunch conservatives, they willbe just taking themselves out of the game.

This is to smoo84.... Yes you are right in one thing...as you get older we get wiser BUT they won't switch to the republican side.....That comment shows stupity. It just shows all the wisers were just tired of the last eight years. We have a great man as our President.

Prior to getting elected what he do that was great?

  • Posted By: Mrprich @ 11/06/2008 8:58:27 AM

SM0084, what are you talking about? Are you saying there are no old Democrats. Your reasoning is severely flawed. Age and maturity have little to do with which party you identify with. What make the Republican Party the party of the older people? Don't you understand that we are taught most of our lifelong values as young people and they tend to remain at the core of who we are whether Dem or Rep. So what proof do you have to support your train of thought?

  • Posted By: bomill @ 11/06/2008 8:55:24 AM

My introduction to Eric Cantor was to watch him spout off absurd Republican talking points about how Nancy Pelosi's speech in the House of Representatives derailed the first bailout bill. What a crock. If the Republicans want to pin their hopes on another photogenic face who's entire cache of capabilities is limited to memorizing partisan rhetoric, I guess we can look forward to a Palin-Cantor ticket in 2012.

  • Posted By: jarsofclay @ 11/06/2008 8:36:38 AM

Hey Folks there is plenty of blame to go around, on both sides. We have extremely low approval ratings of the current president, but also of a Democratically controlled Congress. When Obama, now has privilige to start reading intelligence reports I think he is going have a total different opinion of the oval office. We need to pray for Obama and Bush. We need to pray that our Nation first and foremost stays safe, because without that we have nothing. There is an elite Presidents club out there, where they understand one another (Clinton and Bush Sr.) They understand how difficult this job is. We must Pray..early and often!
