You see, what your kind fails to recognize is that under the guise of "uniting" Americans, Osama has polarized the country by race. The country is more divided than ever. If he lasts his entire term he will be done. One term and then bye bye ovomit.

Well lets see..... twenty one years in the U.S. Army serving Our Country for starters....... Worked steady for over thirty-five years at the same job making a living for my Family. Married (happy for thirty-one years)and have lovely smart children and grandchildren. I've busted my ass trying to live up to being a good and faithful American.....I can tell by your comment that you did't watch the Democratic convention and heard her say that for the first time in her adult life, she was happy to be an American... you sir or ma'am are certified looser and maybe even a communist. I rest my case...

  • Posted By: serenity_is_key @ 11/06/2008 2:45:21 PM

just for you backwater83-> your 'breakdown' is actually incorrect. the president isn't decided just based on popular vote (although obama won that contest too). if that were the case, bush wouldn't have won four years ago. it is based on the electoral college system. obama won many states that are not predominantly black (are there any predominantly black states, anyway?). voting for him just because he's black doesn't explain his wins in vermont, maine, rhode island, conneticut, florida, nevada, oregon, colorado, minnesota, california, etc. it's not that people don't have the 'balls' to say what you said. apparently it's that everyone else seems to understand how presidential elections work. let's make sure we know what we're talking about before we try to school people on anything, okay?

michelle obama is wonderful. i look forward to her as the first lady, as well as her husband as the leader of our country.

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/06/2008 5:55:29 PM

      And don't for get Virginia!

    • Posted By: backwater83 @ 11/06/2008 2:51:47 PM

whatever your point was, you failed to make it. Obama didn't have to win predominantly black states, as you say, there are none. Obama did, however only have to get 37 percent of non-black voters as I stated earlier. 37 percent is not a majority. I swear, some people just type to hear themselves type. So you'll have to try better before you do your "I sure TOLD him" dance.

      • Posted By: serenity_is_key @ 11/06/2008 3:25:24 PM

agreed, maybe i should try again. the point that i was making was that he didn't have to win 37% of anything, 13% of anything (btw->37+13 wouldn't give him majority, either, would it?), 51% of anything. he had to win 270 electoral college votes, which he did. even if he'd gotten 100% of the black vote and 37% of the non-black vote, he wouldn't have won because it's based on the STATES he wins and the number of votes that come with those states. now, he has to win the majority of the votes in each state, but, as you said, no state is predominantly black. therefore, once again, your 'breakdown' is incorrect. he won predominantly white states, and he won republican states, so his fight wasn't any easier than john mccain's. hopefully that's a little easier for you to understand.

nobody is trying to "tell you so". just want you to be knowledgeable about the topic before you make a judgement.

        • Posted By: backwater83 @ 11/06/2008 3:37:07 PM

wow, i will now type very very slowly. hope you get it this time. who ever said anyhting about popular vote or electoral votes...? If Obama wins 37 percent of the non-black vote in any state that gives 100% of the electorate for that state and wins 100% of the total black vote, he has 50% of the vote for that state, thus giving the entire electorate from that state to Obama. And yeah, you're right, 50% doesn't give him a majority, but now your talking samantics. My point is still valid. This is considering that the total percentage of blacks in the country make up 13% of the population. That 13 percent may be a bit lighter in some states and heavier in others, but remember, McCain won several states as well. It was not a Reagan landslide. I am well versed in politics to the point that I spend a consideral amount of time studying the politics of our country, so thanks but no thanks, when you attempt to teach me about our political system. My point is still valid.

          • Posted By: serenity_is_key @ 11/06/2008 4:29:57 PM

the last response from me because this is getting a little silly...your theory is based on the assumption that the 13% black population is even distributed among the states that he won, which it isn't. it would also assume that every black person voted obama, which they didn't (some black people voted republican, some for the green party candidate, etc). and you don't need 50% to win the state, you need majority. not semantics, fact. and obama won states where the black population is a lot less than 13%, so your theory wouldn't explain those states. true, it wasn't a reagan in '84 landslide, but 349-163 is a pretty significant win. electoral colleges were mentioned by me because that's what is used to determine who wins the presidency. and attempting to be condescending doesn't make you sound any more right, especially when your theory is incorrect. you can check the numbers on the exit polls (which don't account for every voter, but give a rough idea of how particular segments of the population voted) to see what distribution of voters chose obama over mccain. you can check the census in states like maine, vermont, etc to see what percentage of the population is black. lets make knowledgeable comments, not blanket statements and accusations. that's the point i was trying and am still trying to make. i hope you have a great day and i hope that anger/resentment you're harboring subsides.

64 million Americans voted for Obama.....that's 57%. Blacks are only 12% of the electorate. Latinos and Asians only represent about 3%.

Which means the rest of the voters were .........(drumroll).............WHITE!!!

What do you say to those folks? Just curious.....

Enter Your CommentComment: If people were truly honestly good people we would all stop talking like everyone else is wrong and we are right. I know that my vote counted for something good and I am glad Michelle and Barrak are going to be our next president and first lady of the united states. It makes no difference of their color. I just hope and pray that someone doesn't harm any hair on either one of them and that they can find some way to help single parents with children have better lives. Because right now I am a single mom with two kids working two jobs and have been single for 15 years and want to find a way to get out of debt and be able to truly live the life I deserve. I am not asking for a hand out but a hand up. So many people want hand outs in this country and I am working hard just need a hand up to make my kid's lives better than mine was growing up. And community, people helping people is just what we need just like Michelle says in her article here. Community helping community. That is what we need to help get our country back on track no more bickering no more arguing no more hate and lies and more crossing the boundries and loving our neighbor. Please people love one another stop the hate.

I did not vote for Barack Obama, however as an American I will continue to support and defend my country and abide my President as should all Americans. His task now is to represent all of us, not just those who voted for him but those who did not as well. As he said, he is going to be our President and he will win our trust and support. I have evry faith and confidence that both Barack and Michelle will represent us very well around the world and address all of our issues here at home.

Everyone here should have done their own research to find out what is true and what is false. Those of you like myself who get Newsmax should know that many statements there are not true they are meant to insite you. Keeping this hate and divide going does not strenghtne us as a nation but weakens us. If you can only think in terms of Repub or dem or even Black or White you are misled and blind. I ask that each of you think about this, one country, one nation one government; why do you keep breaking it into groups?

I am a full supporter of AmeriCorps, My son was Corpsman with the California Conservation Corps for the last year, he received awesome training and the drive to finish his high school education, for his year of service he has been awarded a scholarship through Americorps as soon as he receives his diploma, as for work experience it has given him a wonderful resume and the ability to work with a strong ethical outlook regarding the importance of work and has given him the knowledge of independence. I truly hope that Pres elect Obama is capable of furthering these worthy organizations and can utilize them in helping with the rebuilding of our infrastructure as FDR did when he founded the organizations. The Civilian Conservation Corps and AmeriCorps are wonderful platforms to help our youth 17 - 25 to get the training and work experience necessary in our world today. Good Luck to the OBAMA's they are going to need it for they have a very large job ahead of them.

    HOPE

For the first few years after my wife died, my left brain knew that I would never see her again, but something in me just didn't want to believe what had actually happened. For months after, longer than I would care to admit, I had to keep reminding myself that her death wasn't just like any other separation we'd ever had.

Something similar is happening to me now with this recent election, but in reverse. It is difficult for anyone who has not lived in the USA all their lives to understand what a beacon of hope and freedom this country is for the rest of the world. Had the civil rights issue not been settled in the USA, glasnost and perestroika which led to the collapse of the Soviet Empire would not have seemed feasible to its citizens. Similarly, that same spirit of freedom which has imbued the world ever since would not have led to the eventual release of Mandela in South Africa and the first free elections there in 1994. America is the leader of the free world.

The first time I read that someone in a mob of people had thrown a brick (a fragment, I???ve heard since,) and struck a child in the face, at the very entrance to the school it was trying to attend, something died in me. What died was the same irrational spirit of hope I had to forcibly put to death after my wife died, but that brick in the face of a child, a child just like the children under my charge at the time, killed hope in me for a long, long while; not hope for blacks in America, not hope for America, but hope for the human race on planet Earth.

So Obama has put his finger on that cynicism towards the human race which represents the weakest spot on my soul, and his election has raised the possibility of a cure, but I know I will not be fully cured until he completes a full term in office, whether or not he stands for re-election.

I find it sad and disconcerting to think that we- the thinking people- will never again be able to comment on an interview or statement given by the President or first lady without this volley, or barrage if you will, of ignorance, hate, and blatant, unashamed racism. I refuse to mention any one bigot or their comment as this only serves the purpose of these low lifes. Having said that, I would like to get back to it.........
I read this article- as a father to a young girl- and found myself touched by the sincerity of Michelles answers. She openly expressed her fears- that are cetainly founded and similar to earlier first ladies- and showed her maternal side. I found it charming that she wanted her mommy as bad as she wanted to be a strong mom for her kids. She also expressed some beautiful thoughts- that any red-blooded American worth his/her salt better be on board with- about the families of the military who hold down the fort while their sigificant others/parents are away.
I wish nothing but the best for the future of this country and it's newly elected leadership.

Pretty sad that someone would get picked by the color of thier skin. Obama clearly has no morals or values and he will lead this country futher from God with his acceptance of Abortion (during all nine months with no stipulations) and gay marriage. I only hope God punished the individual people in the end....not the land. November 4,2008 will be remembered as the beginning of the end of what our nation has left of it's values!

PRESIDENT Obama has more christianity in his little finger than you have. Don't talk about God in the same breath as you hoping that someone will be punished. WE are a nation of many nations within. Since the first settlers, our doors have been open to all those that wanted a new freedon, a new peace, a new chance. To say you are an American is to say you are one with all who live here. The colors are a part of who we are and who we have become and we should be proud of the fact that we have suceeded in making opprotunities for success for everyone that lives here. This election is our own proof of that. And as far as "race"'let's grow up, we are all the american race. Most of us in America is mixed with more that one blood.

We should NOT submit this kind of behaiver to our children, grand children ect. it is wrong!! We as one nation should be color blind. Just because oboma won (which i voted for) doesnt mean this becomes a raciest world. It is sad. VERY VERY SAD we as americans are acting like this. Remember Oboma is MIXED WHITE AND BLACK. So all of you need to stop being so raciest and lets live as one as we have been in the past. Look upon new change and get along with all no matter their race.

America, our America, will rally behind their newly elected President Obama and our nation will delve into a new realm that will project us not only toward the future, but as we take each step, it will be the proudest stride forward eliminating along the way each and every issue that has in the past not only brought us to our knees with tears running down our faces but has stolen the very heart and sole of Americans across our great country. Now, that heart and soul will be restored not only to its' past glory decades ago, but will propel it beyond all expectations for each and every American. Unification was not only a dream, it has become a reality in our lifetime and will continue to well past our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This world we live in we only have one chance and that one chance to make a difference has turned into the chances of each American in our Nation. Together, our one chance.......has become so strong so enforced, never in the history of any nation has a leader with all of his people 100% behind him been able to not only right the course but to change it for the better. I have never been so proud and heartfelt to have a President such as Barack Obama to lead this country. We all, this November when we give Thanks, need to be thankful for our newly elected President. Our great nation could not be in better hands! My God Bless and Keep You Always!
