We all can again begin to be proud of our country, our government, our leaders. Our new First Lady is classy, supports her husband and their family yet also supports and promotes issues that are needed in this country. She seems to know what is important and I commend her.

the only thing that gets me is that all black people want to say he is african american the forget his mother and grandmother who raised him was white where does the black people get the african american i would not vote for him i think the real americans will see what he really is later on (he has ties)

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/06/2008 5:45:02 PM

Yes, he has some awesome ties, doesn't he. I particularly liked the one he was wearing the night he spoke to the crowds in the park in Chicago.

    • Posted By: canwegetalong @ 11/06/2008 3:41:08 PM

He is African American because his father is and African his mother is anAmerican thus the term African American.

What CHANGE? Keep hearing the word, but no substance. Feed a bunch of sheep and call it oats and they will eat it up. Right now, I have a little change in my pocket, which I worked for. Don't really care about giving it to somebody who find and hold a *** job.

I'm trying to understand the comments about Michelle's physical attractiveness, or lack of...whichever.

Why is this a talking point? Mrs. Reagan was no beauty. Both Bush wives were not considered trophies, by any standard of the imagination. Hillary, well......definitely not going to win any beauty contests, not even 8 years ago.

If you look at the list over the past generation, Michelle is actually looking pretty good.

BUT, again, why are the 1st Lady's looks suddenly a standard? Hmmmmm......

  • Posted By: peggyb52 @ 11/06/2008 2:53:03 PM

You want change now and ask all to support the 'change', but you couldn't support the America we have which would have been helpful. And, now you think all should jump on board because someone new is going to be our President. Change doesn't happen quickly and certainly one man cannot make everything better. People do that. Obama defenders obviously couldn't see past the color, as his qualifications are few, and anyone can make promises. He has fluctuated back and forth on many issues in his oh so few years as an active government leader. Find the facts, and that doesn't mean through the mainstream media because they only provide one side.

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/06/2008 5:43:14 PM

You are mistaken. Many well educated and well informed people of all colors, all ages, and all walks of life supported Obama. He won because he was brilliant, disciplined, calm, thoughtful, and compassionate. Oh, and the donations from his supporters who trusted him to use their hard-earned money wisely, helped too.

This might be unnecessary but for whatever it is worth, please Grandma Robinson move into the White House....just imagine if you produced Michelle with what you had then maybe you can set the foundation for one of the grandkids becoming the first black female president ....hmmmm.

This doesn't change a thing between blacks and whites unless blacks pick up the pace and take some respocibility.

By the way.... This country was "handed" to President Clinton during his first term while in a major deficit. By the time he ended his term we had the biggest surplus in decades. Thank you Democrats. My husband and I have faith in Obama. Who can do any worse than Bush Sr or Bush Jr?
My husband and I walked outside our front door yesterday, took a long look around and a deep breath! This is a new changed America. A place that we can FINALLY say that we are "PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN" again. His speach brought tears to our eyes! When our country can elect a man not for the color of his skin but by the strength of his voice then we are on the right track. When I was woke up the next morning to watch the news, what did I see? I saw black and white coming together to celebrate in large crowds. This is the beginning of a long awaited unified nation. Our children need to believe that no matter what race you are, your dreams can come true. This is a historical moment, and it happend during my husband and my lifetime(31 years old). We are so proud to have witnessed it and have been a part of it. We also shared every moment of this campaign and election night with our children. The will remember the day that our 44th president was elected and made history. We also wanted to say congratulations! It has been a long fight for many years for equality. You more than deserve this moment in time! Heres to a NEW AMERICA!!!!!

    • Posted By: big tn @ 11/06/2008 5:41:34 PM

Thank you for being a true american, we voted for him and we can't do nothing now but come up as one nation. Please QUIT planting hatred in our kids they need to see that no matter the color of ones skin we are all as one, and oh for the ones that hate he was elected you better get online and look at all around the world people are praising his name a change is going to come OBAMA, OBAMA, OABAMA.

    • Posted By: Navymom38 @ 11/06/2008 3:40:48 PM

You have said extactly what we needed to hear. I'm so tired of the negative comments from both sides. We are all Americans and I gonna love everyone even if you hate me, because that's how God has it designed.

  • Posted By: goguy @ 11/06/2008 5:41:17 PM

Behind every successful man is a strong woman. Our new first lady is demonstrating this from the get go. She supports her husband, thier family, and still has energy to promote and support good, sound national issues. We the people of the United States are truly the winners in this election and although things will certainly get tougher, I believe that they will get better and we all will be proud of our government, our country, and our leaders........something that has been waining in past years.

I will admit, while I was unable to vote due to illness, I was rooting for McCain. Whether that was right or wrong, we will find out soon enough. However, the fact of the matter is Mr. Obama has been elected and he, his family and his administration deserve our support. I am completely astounded to read some of the comments written below. While I don't believe that Mr. Obama is our 1st black president and should stop being lauded as such, I don't believe it is okay to make such hateful, indecent remarks about anyone. Mr. Obama, as most people have conveniently forgotten is half white. In addition, he was raised in a white family with no connection to his "African" family until after he was grown. I'm sorry, to me, that is not a black man. That is a man who happens to be half black, only biologically. So, people, please give us a break. Let's support him because he is the president-elect and not for stupid racial reasons.

5TH GRADERS WOW YOU ASSHOLISH LEFT WING LIBERALS HAVE BEEN MOCKING SARAH PALIN HAVE A TASTE OF YOUR OWN MEDICINE

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/06/2008 5:40:26 PM

I don't remember anyone mocking her race. If so, shame on them.

It's fair game to mock her achievements, (or lack of), her intelligence, her style, her abilities/inabilities, her quirckiness, her policy.

The only folks who attack race are the petty ones who haven't evolved enough to overcome the devilish, or angry nature that drives the part of our brain that intelligence hasn't quite reached.

Yesterday, I spent a long time reading the posts of the McCain supporters who were commenting on Obama's win. Although there were some who really impressed me - they were willing to say that they would support the new President, even though they didn't vote for him, there were many who made so many disgusting comments that I spent most of the time thinking up (what I thought were) witty retorts that exposed their ignorance.

As the day wore on, however, I thought that what I really should have written was what I'm writing now...this new day in America (and I truly believe it is a new day), is an opportunity for EACH of us, and each of us will decide to grasp that opportunity, or let it pass us by. Even those of us who voted for, and supported President-elect Obama, will need to focus, so that this optimism, this new zest for our democracy and what it means, won't slip away. President-elect Obama has been very specific in telling us that the government can't solve our problems for us...we have to re-calibrate our perspectives on our lives; those of our family and friends; our duty to our country; our chance to show our patriotism in our actions; and all the other opportunities that this particular moment in history is offering us. Our actions will speak for us going forward from November 4. Those who are so ignorant that they can't see the opportunity will miss out on it. Even if they look back on it years from now, and see that they were wrong, they will have missed the chance to start now.

We owe it to President-elect Obama to not let these feelings we temporary. He has done so much to make us enthusiastic about our democracy, our country and our willingness to really get involved and solve the problems that we fact as a Nation. We owe him, and our country our concentration, our commitment and promise that we won't let this achievement go to waste.

People often speak of a Renaissance Man. How fortunate we are, as a Nation, to now also have a RENAISSANCE WOMAN IN MICHELLE OBAMA! There have been countless comparisons to ???Jackie O???. I mean no disrespect to Mrs. Kennedy however her focus in the White House was more on the cultural aspects of the W.H. itself and the things in it. How wonderful it is that MRS. OBAMA???s FOCUS will be on PEOPLE OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS working & LEARNING, TOGETHER, to make our Nation and our youth better through COMMUNITY action based initiatives! But what is additionally impressive is her primary focus being on her children and her FAMILY. BRAVO! I wish the Obamas well.
