They will be a very BEAUTIFUL 1ST FAMILY. MICHELLE will be a GREAT 1st LADY.

Reading these posts, I'm very disappointed if this is any representation of our country. On election night, I saw people crying and full of emotion to see this man elected. When I looked on that stage as four brown faces stood on upon it, I saw a reflection of myself, and it felt good. It felt good to finally feel like I had a foothold in American history instead of feeling like a side note to it. For once, I felt like I could call myself an American. Not just a black American, but an all-inclusive American. I don't know what he's going to do to change the state of the nation. He even said himself that he doesn't think all the problems can be fixed in 4 years. But this is too positive a time to be allowing such negativity to shine through.

I thought in egalitarian America, we had men, women and children. Is this "Lady" stuff a British or PBS import ?

Paul Paulos - you know what? They spent the last 22 months being vetted. Sooner or later you have to let it go. The fact is you have a whole new paradigm to deal with. We are used to the old whiteboy fraternity that has these guys hooked up with Haliburton, Enron, and Big Oil. We are not accustomed to the people in power having roots within the black community and that general environment. It doesn;t scare me - and it shouldn't scare you. The last 8 years have been truly scary - this is relative nonesense compared to the corruption we've experiences for the last 8 years.

Just on looks alone she is not very attractive. In the body or face. But her warmness and intelligence makes her inter beauty shine through which inturn makes her beautiful.

For those who judge others they too will be judged! AMEN!!

I think this is A VERY BEAUTIFUL FIRST FAMILY. I think it they would very fine in the house. President Obama will do A GREAT JOB in his 1st and 2nd term. He have alot to do. The world is watching very closely.

I am a woman of Native American decent. You as a black man still have advantages over me as a woman. So discrimination is alive and well and those of you who lable yourselves as ____ American instead of just an AMERICAN are helping to keep discrimination alive and well in this 21st Century.

It's amazing what you see day in and day out, what's more captivating is the fact of how many ignorant, naive, or just plain out stupid people exist amongst us!!! So many negative comments on the new president and first lady yet, it's only been a day since they've been elected! You would think after the caos Bush caused since he's been in office that anyone with potential and motivation that beams through to get a nation to come out to the polls and be heard would be enough to give us all hope but, damn, always a bad apple in a batch!!! Don't sit there and hand out verdicts like you're someone special and yet you don't like being judged! Seriously, for everyone's sake, either join the movement or stay the *** out of our way!!! Get it together people, we're all adults and when you speak, know that your words can either make or break a nation and so it is when you type! Clearly your education level is identified as to the words you chose to murmur!!!!!

Great article. I respect Michelle for her apparent openness and wisdom in talking with those who have gone through this before her. I think she has done a fantastic job supporting Barack theses long months of campaigning and yet keeping her two daughters in as normal of situation as possible. That's quite an accomplishment! After reading some of these comments, I wasn't sure if I was posting about this article or not. Some people writing on this blog really have a lot of hate inside of them. That is hard for me to relate to and my life wasn't all that easy. Having always voted for the Republican ticket until this election, I feel like I can honestly say that if McCain would have won, as much as those of us who voted for Obama couldn't stand Palin, we would not be near as hateful as the sore losers commenting on this blog. Please go for therapy or find a good church. You're very scary!!
