Here we go! Whats the difference with gov't funded workers working in parks, with head start etc. or calling it "volunteering" and funding tuitions etc.? Folks might get a nice "feel good" but either jobs will need to be cut so the "volunteers" can get their tuition assistance or the "volunteers" will be an extra cost. Hmm....maybe nothing really is free. Hold on to your seat ( better sit on your wallet) the Dems. are in charge!

Couldn't be any worse than the way the REPUBLICANS robbed millions of people BLIND! You need to wake up and see what is in front of you the past 8 years have been full of LIES! 911, what ever happened to catching Bin Laden for what he did? But Baby Bush got things squared away good and even with Sadam and Iraq for BIG DADDY BUSH! too bad it had nothing to do with WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. The American people got rid of those Bush & Chaney. Amazing how they are going out of office with a surplus in their pocket! How's your retirement plan doing???????

I am appauled at the ignorance of some of the adults that have left comments. This is not about race nor did the blacks vote just because they are black. (which by the way I am white) This country needs help and the last few Republican presidents have not done this. So why not give Obama the credit and respect and let him try to clean up this mess. Our country is so up on blaming each other that our children of the future are going to suffer. As adults we can not see passed the color of the skin. Our kids do however. Until they have to constantly sit and listen to their parents, teachers, ministers, etc...... bash the other color or what the world is coming to. DO NOT blame Obama for wanting to help his country. His grandmother was White so what is your reason now. GROW UP!!!!!

Obama is just like G.W. Bush, he has no business being president. He has no experience at anything and the only thing that he can claim is that he can raise and spend millions of dollars on a campaign without any regret. Anyone who is that frivolous with taxpayer monies cannot be trusted to lower the national debt. I predict that he will do for the democratic party, what Bush has done for the republican party. When are we going to get a qualified candidate from either party to run for president?

  • Posted By: bulldogs6 @ 11/06/2008 1:43:15 PM

So many of you people sound seriously rediculous. OBama was born in Hawaii (The United States). His mother is white and his father is black. His father was not African American, just African...from Kenya. He was never a slave or a member of this country. He left his wife and son when Obama was young. Obama was raised here in the U.S. by his mother only. He is not black, he is mixed, half black and half white. His color and heritage have nothing to do with whether he is capable of running this country. Get it together people. Most of you are the reason why our country is in turmoil. Educate yourselves and respect your country and your leaders. The most important thing is that we all stop focusing on the past and work TOGETHER toward a better future.

  • Posted By: EmmDee @ 11/06/2008 1:15:37 PM

I just think it is interesting that everyone is focusing on Obama being the first "black" president. He isn't. He is the first biracial president. Obama is equally 50% white and 50% black. Just referring to him as black is something of an insult to half of his background, namely the white mother and grandparents who raised him (it would have been so nice if his grandmother could have lived an extra couple days to see him win). In a way, electing a biracial individual to office is even more historic given that there are still a lot of people in the world today who still have a problem with inter-racial couples or bi-racial children. Now if we can just get to the next step of equality for the rest of Americans and let anyone who loves each other be able to get married without the ignorant, bible-thumping, conservative Christian right trampling on the rights of 10% of this country's population.

    • Posted By: ChangeIsHere08 @ 11/06/2008 1:27:55 PM

We only refer to him being black because according to white people, if you have 1% black in you then you are black.

      • Posted By: EmmDee @ 11/06/2008 1:42:49 PM

According to some people, black or white. There are plenty of black people who also contend that if a person has a drop of black blood in them it makes them "black". But the bottom line is that he is biracial, not black.

RUCKUS, WELL said, a great friend of mine was there for so long, what he told me would make us all sick.. we dont belong there, i hope obama gets our troops out as soon as possible. george bush did not know what he was getting us into and mistakes have been made. you are so right go after the country that attacked us, not irag... god so many young men and women have lossed their lives and if anyone knows of anyone like i do, a great kid ,,,two great kids, came home and killed them selfs. it was so sad at their wakes and for what... something has to give in this country, god i pray obama does good for all americans...

I am an educated middle aged white woman, and I for one think that there is always more to learn. Just because Michelle Obama is African American does not mean she doesn't have something to offer. I am personally thrilled with the chance to get to know this amazing woman and her family. Fortunately, not everyone sees her as just 'black.' Some of us have the audacity to see her as a person and not prejudge her, or her husband, by the color of her skin.

Cheers to the Obama Family!!!! All those that are not happy with the new President of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA; stop being a LOSER: The key word is UNITED regardless of who becomes a PRESIDENT we should all try to work together; and don't judge the book by its cover!!!! visit other countries website news, there you will find out how happy they are to know that America is not all about WHITE president. They now know America is not racist nor discriminating as to how a person looks!!!! Another thing, people should think first where their ancestors are really from!!!!! So what if Obama's father was from another country! He (Obama) is an American born!!!

  • Posted By: Melchi1979 @ 11/06/2008 1:07:40 PM

Michelle Obama might be educated...just not in our country. For her to say that she is finally of our country is a slap in the face to all the Patriots that spilled their blood on this land for our freedoms. And Barack Hussein Obama...I don't even understand how a man born in Kenya could be elected as our Leader. Oh well...
I guess history repeats itself...Israel wanted a king and kept asking over and over so God gave them Saul when David was the appointed one.
Lets pray that Barack doesn't hand over our Country to the opposition by claiming this supposed peace by joining the ones that wants to wipe Israel off the face of this planet.
    God help us all.

This entire discussion is truly disturbing???as a Navy veteran and Spanish / Apache American???I find this type of racisms very sad...but mostly the ignorance that perpetuates this kind of thought is most disheartening???America had come so far???yet, has not changed in many ways.

    Dear President Elect,

I thank God for your victory and I know that all of our work was necessary and it was not in vain. We look forward to hearing from you concerning future events. Most importantly, we would like to offer your girls a puppy. Our two dogs gave birth to 4 female puppies on October 21, 2008. They were 2 weeks old on Nov. 4th. They are beautiful! The mother is thoroughbred American Eskimo (Sugar, is medium size, all white, fluffy, tailed curled up) she is beautiful. The father is a thoroughbred Pomeranian, (Spice, is a little smaller than Sugar, he is gorgeous Cinnamon colored with white, brown, and black streaks but he is predominantly Cinnamon colored, he looks like a show dog) They are both super smart. There are two white puppies, one black-white-brown, and one black puppy. However they change everyday. I believe one of the whites ones will change to Cinnamon or Champagne and the black puppy's undercoat has already changed to white and she has white ribbons around her legs and a white border under her neck and stomach. I researched their breeds. The Spitz and and Poms are both descendents of the German Spitz. Queen Victoria and Princess Charlotte of Pomerania region began breeding the German Spitzs that possessed the pronounced Pom attributes. The German Spitz lost it appeal during the war causing the American Eskimo (Eskis) and the Pomeranian (Poms) to become separately bred entities. After delving deeply into their heritage I uncovered German Spitz original breeds that have the exact attributes and traits of the puppies and discovered the original breed is rare. Spicy was only 11 months when he sired the puppies and Sugar was 2 years old, her first litter. Mr. President Elect if you are interest we will send pictures and we will have any one of the puppies that the girls chooses shipped to them. Sugar and Spice would be so honored to have their puppy daughter serve your daughters at the White House.

One last thing, there is sweet potato pie in Ohio, and I make the best sweet potato pie in the region. Every year our family has a big Thanksgiving Day dinner, usually at a club house or party center and most of the family attends the gala event. Every year Alexis is asked to bring her sweet potato pie and every year it is a huge hit! We had our family reunion in August and she baked her famous sweet potato pies and people were looking for her because they wanted to meet the person who made the sweet potato pie. So to make a long story short, we???ll ship a couple of pies with the puppies (separately of course) so that you will know that there is good sweet potato pie in Ohio.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll send the pictures of the puppies for the girls.

Love Alvin and Alexis Jones Cleveland, Ohio

Negative comments only show how low and ignorant you are. Sour grapes and bound for destruction. Our country voted and Obama was OUR choice. For years many political powerhouses tried to control the vote but their time was finally up, THANK GOD. So,get over it. They will make a wonderful First Family!

I'm older...way older....and Barack Obama voter. But I just watched a Newweek interview with UPenn young Republicans and all (save the cutsey girl who believes Sarah Palin is the new Republicans!) were so resonable and excited to take the party where they see conservatisim going. BRAVO!! I hope they do....I hope also there is a relization that not wanting the government telling them what to do (taking all there money) will involve some regulation on financial institutions and also applies to the goverment telling women what they can and can't do with their own bodies (our right to choice). There is, as Obama said, ONE United States of America....we need to get back to ideals and not Red States vs Blue States and try to preserve OUR country.

Here is the bottom line for the next four years. When the Republicans disagree with the Liberal Left we are going to be deemed as obstructionists. Get used to it folks. The Liberal Agenda is coming right into your living rooms. This election was NOT about Color or making History, it is about the Liberalizaition of American. I only hope I am wrong.

As a retired militay man, I am shocked that no one was briefing MS Obama on the existing support network the Air Force provided me, even after a loss of a son. I retired in 2002 and was extremely satisfied with my Commanders and enlisted personnel support during my deployments. For pete sake, they even mowed my yard, and baby sat for my wife when she had appointments. I fear that Ms. Obama has little concept in how the military takes care of his own. When i retired I was a bit lost without my Air Force family (support), who assisted me while serving the United States of America.

President Elect Obama is the president of the United States of America. He represents all people. His very biological makeup demonstrates that. He is African American and white. Both bloodline runs through him. I think that it would have been easier if his skin reflected more white than it does black. Why can't people see that this country doesn't belong to just one group of people. Although for the hundreds of years it has appeared that way. I can say for the first time as a hard-working educated African American woman born in the USA, I feel like I am American with EVERY right as any other citizens. One poster said that many African Americans depend on welfare ( not wellfare). If the facts are checked you will find that actually other races depend on welfare much more than African Americans. Not sure who the many are. I know far more African Americans that are hard working intelligent contributor of society than not. Also I don't think there was much complaint about welfare when my people was building this country with the sweat of their brow and GIVEN very little but beatings in return for hundreds of years. That's welfare. Also buy out and tax breaks for these major corporation that's welfare. I feel so sorry for the ignorance of many of these comments. The reason why many people black and white didn't vote until now is because they didn't feel like it made any difference. They didn't feel like they were apart of this America the Beautiful. I have always voted, but honestly didn't really care. This was the FIRST time I truly got involved in the political process and plan to continue. Fort those who are really devastated by the outcomes of the election and are saying vicious and vile things, I pray for your peace because it has be hard living that way. This will be a long four years , but know you can survive because you just survived the last 8 years. I know you can handle this.
