A news update regarding FAA, ???Bobby??? Sturgell, and the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign, follows:

    1. Bobby Sturgell Ejected. While Team Obama deliberates on the choice of new USDOT and FAA heads:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/05/AR2008120503320.html
failed FAA Acting Administrator Robert Allan (???Bobby???) Sturgell is thankfully already reported to have given a ???Farewell Speech???, according to resources like ABC News, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, and Flightglobal. As the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign was ???Bobby??? Sturgell???s pet-elver project, and as ???Bobby??? Sturgell is accountable for 3,500-and-climbing aviation fatalities occurring on his abominable FAA watch - see, e.g.,:
    http://indictsturgell.blogspot.com/2008/10/failed-faa-pilot-bobby-sturgell-racks.html

at Quiet Rockland, we say to ???Bobby??? Sturgell:

    Auf Wiedersehen, Aal!

    2. Quiet Rockland Petitions Obama. Quiet Rockland recently wrote and posted President-Elect Barack Obama a letter:
    http://removesturgell.blogspot.com/2008/11/quiet-rocklands-appeal-to-president.html
In this letter, we have asked our next President to please scrap the NY/NJ/PHL Airspace Redesign, treat Air Traffic Controllers properly, infuse an Oberstar-ian ???Culture of Safety??? in American aviation, repopulate FAA with responsible ingenuous officials, and select a new FAA Administrator who delivers those objectives.

    Stop the Vampire Policies

Cheney's back room policies with housing, banking, corp & big pharma
have allowed those in power to suck every last drop out of their customers.

The top got so heavy with their insatiable greed that it has crushed all the
    rest of us beneath it.

We have to tax those who've been feasting to regain some sort of balance.
Redistribution - you bet. They created this by their total lack of humanity and
now have to pay for what they've done to the entire world !

If the politicians were smart, rather than throwing around our tax-payer dollars for bailing out failed companies, they should let free market forces take the natural law approach, AND they should promote the foundation of ALL global economies: barter... more specifically they should promote MBE-barter, that is a huge improvement on traditional one-on-one trading. Merchants Barter Exchange allegedly can solve the World's economic woes...! Maybe they can, maybe they can't, but it sure would be cheaper than wasting TRILLIONS of money the tax-payer will be indebted for for decades to come...!

Energy Independence needs to be included in the realm of our economic issues. Our dependence on foreign oil impacts every aspect of our society and economy. This past year is a testimony to that fact. Jeff Wilson has a great new book out called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is worried about our economy and interested in seeing our country become more energy independent.

Ask not what you can do for your country... but your country can do for you.

The problem with the economy is the government keeps looking at the "Big Picture" ignoring the nuts and bolts, as a result we have an economic system that has no nuts and bolts and has fallen apart.
The nuts and bolts are of course the small business's that have until recent times fueled the economy, just look at the thousands of small business's Wal-Mart has pushed into oblivion.
But the Governments part in this stems from the attitudes and practices of the IRS.
The fact of the matter is if you start a small business, the first thing you do is by equipment do some advertising, purchase materials to produce what ever it is you intend to manufacture and sell. These expenditures are tax deductable, the tax laws are written to encourage people to start businesses.
The first thing the IRS does is to audit you, when you are audited regardless of how careful you might be in documenting your expenditures, in the end you will write a check, one way or the other.
The audits will go on until you give up any thought of continuing your business.
The IRS takes great pride in the fact 7 out of 10 business's fail in the first three years what they don't say is many fail since the IRS itself has taken an inordinate amount of your time and attention not to mention cash.
While the Government bails out the banks they are simultaneously stopping any small business from succeeding

The problem may be urgent but any sustained recovery is not going to be fast.

The US has operated with a negative cash flow, more cash going to China and the Middle East than has been coming in.
You cannot run a country with a negative cash flow anymore than you can run a business with a negative cash flow and that negative cash flow is now reaching the wealthy and larger corporations in the US.
The simple solution is to sell more products but since Nixon declared the US a "service economy" a policy refined by Reagan and taken to its limits by Bush, it suddenly dawns on us we have no products to sell.

The economy has been fueled by real estate for the past 8 years or more until it was sucked dry; buying selling, to create the cash that fueled the consumers with cash.

People see real estate as the problem but the reality is it was only a stop gap to the ultimate failure of tinkle down economics and the ???service economy??? created by a paranoid drunk who happened to be the President of the US and furthered by a B actor and a burning bush who thought God was guiding him.

If Nixon???s service economy can work than the solution is for the 10s of thousands of lawyers we now have to provide services to the Chinese and the oil producing counties, to bolster the income Disney Land brings in from foreign visitors, just don???t hold your breath for that to work.

We can cut back, that???s happening now and China is feeling the crunch, if we finally get electric cars the oil producing counties will as well see a decline in income.
Going to be an interesting world when the income these people have learned to expect stops, just what we need is more unemployed Arabs in the world.

The Republicans proudly announced ???there is no turning back??? as though they intended the demise of this country.
I hope it is not true that we cannot go back, because there is not going to be a sustainable recovery until this country can once again produce products that can be sold and create a positive cash flow.
That of course means reestablishing a manufacturing base and products that can be sold on the world market, a project that is going to take years.

Every journey begins with the first step, economic recovery is going to be a very long journey.
But i have no doubt Obama and the Congress is indeed taking that first step as we speak.

    • Posted By: cobalt6 @ 11/06/2008 7:26:47 PM

Ro In Reno: You are right now congress will do something to help the economy finally because the election is over. They are done trying to make Bush look bad!! But can they now reverse the damage they have caused by waiting until the election was over since they so badly wanted to get Obama elected!

      • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 11/08/2008 1:37:42 PM

The economic problems we face started the day Bush took office, we now are seeing the end result of tinkle down economics.
The Chinese quit lending Bush money so he could not keep the economy looking pretty as he did for the first 6 years.
It doesn't take a genius to know you can go just so far on borrowed money and that is what this administration has done.
Bush ran the country just as he did with his business's on borrowed money, problem is the United States of America can't just declare bankruptcy and run as he did. Every single one of us will have to pay the Chinese back with our tax dollars.
And besides no one tried to make Bush look bad he didn't need any help at all to accomplish that.

  • Posted By: bighappy @ 11/07/2008 9:44:18 PM

Is it obvious what he has to do.
    1. Bail-out GM and Ford, give them $200 biks of those bailout funds, to help unions keep their chocking contracts. Spend the rest of bailout money for bad mortgages, help those failed real-estate speculants.
2.Punish reaches with higer taxes, therefore excile them to Europe, Canada, China, Japan, India (with their money and jobs), let those countries suffer, and we will be better of without reach people.
    3. Be green. Forbid oil drilling (in particular by withdrawing offshore licences, how he suggested), Bancrupt cole mine owners. Spend hundred of billions on ethanol,, wind and solar energy. As a result, we will have the cleanest air in the world (several people will switch to horses, which also makes air cleaner) for small price of sky-high corn and gas cost and 15% unemployment.
    4. There is more to do, like unionizing the rest of the business, granting illegal immigrants (if they will keep coming, which is doubtful) free medication, wellfare and education, etc., but it can be done later, after achieving great first 3 goals.

Well, of course - newsweak will back osama on everything. That is a given. Yes, osama is the messiah!

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 11/07/2008 1:36:44 PM

"ariziowa", To suggest that all, most or even many of us who voted for Obama because of a liberal press is insulting to us, and is more a reflection of you than of reality. I'm not an airy-fairy hoper, but Obama reflects more intellect and pragmatism than I've ever seen in a political candidate. While I prefer cautious optimism, the last 8 years have made all of us more alert to the difference between hype and reality, and there are good reasons for that.

To predict or presume disaster is only self-defeating.

  • Posted By: lightnin @ 11/06/2008 1:12:42 PM

To all of the Obama supporters, whatever your reason for supporting him: We who opposed Obama will extend him and your chosen party EXACTLY the same sort of courtesy, support, cooperation, and assistance that you have so generously and enthusiastically given President Bush for the past 8 years, and we will ENJOY doing so, just as YOU have all this time. In fact, we'll try to be even MORE generous! Elephants have LONG memories, you know.

    • Posted By: Headface @ 11/06/2008 3:25:25 PM

Bush didn't need our "support" as you put it. He did a perfectly good job of screwing himself...and an entire country with him

      • Posted By: spuddude @ 11/06/2008 6:01:41 PM

The national divisiveness that has been so often spoken of in the media throughout this campaign is not a product of Bush's bungling (of which there has been plenty) but rather the bitchiness, whining, and generally childish behaviour of liberals that couldn't get over losing two elections in a row, albeit by the slimmest of margins. His own ineptitude aside, Bush never was afforded the opportunity to succeed or to enjoy accollades for those instances (however few) in which his administration managed to accomplish something positive. It is proper (and easy) to criticize; it is proper (and a mark of maturity) to give credit where due, even if the recipient is one's opponent.

        • Posted By: Headface @ 11/07/2008 9:48:55 AM

Oh yeah, my liberal whining also directly resulted in Katrina victims not getting federal aid for days. Almost forgot that one. Sorry.

        • Posted By: Headface @ 11/07/2008 9:43:54 AM

Yes, my "whining" is why 4200+ American soldiers died Iraq. Thank you for the clarification.

    • Posted By: nanfan @ 11/06/2008 4:27:59 PM

I am a Republican but more than that I am an American - we should support the President - even if he was not our choice He is the choice of the majority. I understand why you feel that way - but acting that way maybe is what brought us to this point - let us all take this opportunity to change and become a stronger more unified group!

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 11/06/2008 3:57:00 PM

You brought a smile to my face!

  • Posted By: Catbuns1978 @ 11/07/2008 8:57:39 AM

I have heard enough whining. So what your saying is Obama should take 5 months off like McCain did in the primary's? We have problems now, there is no reason why the president elect should know about them, and be a deciding factor. Hit the ground running anyone? As far as Dems waiting for the hand out, bite me. I pay my taxes... oh wait am I not supposed to do do that since the rep say so? Get off your soap box.

  • Posted By: polysci_student @ 11/07/2008 1:18:09 AM

wow you guys are racist bigots.. do you even know what a messiah is? jerks.. grow a backbone. get over it. Obama is president. you can either cry about it or get over it. Just because you have free speech doesnt mean you should abuse it by saying ridiculously stupid and ignorant stuff.

  • Posted By: MegaDeath @ 11/06/2008 4:10:41 PM

As long as Obama KEEPS his campaign promise to Spread the Wealth, that's all the people need. Obama promised to give free money from the people with millions and the rich politicions and give it to us. Obama promised to buy our homes that were being foreclosed and he promised free medical, prescriptions and dental coverage. There is no need for us to work and pay taxes when Obama will pay for what we need.

    • Posted By: just 1 of 300 million @ 11/06/2008 4:20:13 PM

      Megadeath,

Mccain was the candidate who propsed paying $300 billion plus for mortgages that were delinquent with tax dollars. Please educate yourself, it will benefit you greatly.

      • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 11/07/2008 12:29:26 AM

No, I think MegaDeath got it right. In fact, now that I think of it, the weather has been really nice since Obama was elected...he must have done that for us, too. The clouds are puffier and the sky is bluer, and soon, money will be raining down on us from Washington. Thank you, oh great Messiah...

  • Posted By: AzanaTigri @ 11/06/2008 5:04:14 PM

How does the article's writer propose Obama take over economic policymaking -- today? Obama is not the president yet.

    • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 11/07/2008 12:27:02 AM

Don't look for anything in Newsweak to make any sense. It is just liberal nonsense, based on liberal fantasies.

  • Posted By: marley07 @ 11/06/2008 10:48:45 PM

Make no mistake about it, the economy and business is very very ugly out there. If Obama puts in place all he said he would through his campaign things are going to get much much worse. Unemployment will probably reach 10%. Many many small businesses will fail. Taxes will go up in every possible way they can for everyone, besides maybe those on welfare who dems seem to love to hand money to for some reason. You will probably see another stimulus packages so you may see $500 or a couple grand or something, but you won't get tax cuts. Our deficit will most likely double from where it is now by the end of 2009. I hope and pray he will change his ways and do the opposite of what he said and come at least to the middle, but he has already started hriing the same old politicians with the same old tricks we have been seeing for decades. Some change. Enjoy!!

    • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 11/07/2008 12:23:42 AM

You are right on the money. If he does what he says he will do, an absolute disaster will result. The writers at Newsweak are nuts to think that Obama can or should attempt to 'take over' any part of economic policy prior to his inaugeration. In any event, policy changes in Washington will have no impact in 11weeks. The leftist zealots that run Newsweak have run amok....again!

  • Posted By: news8111 @ 11/06/2008 8:12:18 PM

    Typical Newsweek nonsense.

The poor man has only been able to enjoy his victory for 24 plus hours and the "experts" have started telling him what he must or must not do.

I had the misfortune of listening to one right wing bigot on talk show radio yesterday.

The same stale talk about links to the wrong people ad nauseum.

And then this real chuckler....the election was close. The popular vote won by McCain was not much less than Obama's total. We are 50 plus million who don't support Obama. Obama will shut down all talk radio to prevent "us" from speaking out. Newspaper sales are falling. We don't know the man. Obama will destroy America, our children and grandchildren, and the world.

What must be really galling to these bigots is that the crowds enjoying the Obama win were majority "white" folks and amongst them thousands of "brave" young men and women who finally had a say in their own futures. Though they did not say it in words they were very clear about one thing "racism is dead, the KKK is dead, time for America to repent for its unsavory past".

Hey McCain alluded to this past himself in his final speech.

  • Posted By: luvcomments @ 11/06/2008 7:04:03 PM

Exactly how is Obama supposed to "take over economic policy-making - tdday" ? I was under the impression that the Divider In Chief was still in the Oval Office.

  • Posted By: Nymkosis @ 11/06/2008 6:42:47 PM

    Spudude-
Get a life loser!!!!! By the way president-elect Obam sounds so much better than "Not President-Elect Mcbush"

hope Obama follows through on his promises to lead America into Energy Independence. This past year the high cost of gas has strained our economy and damaged our society.OPEC just cut production and gas will be rising again soon. WE have spent trillions on bail outs and stimulus checks. Our nation needs to invest in renewable energy and strive to become energy independent. Wind, solar and electric cars could replace a huge percentage of imported oil. We could produce cheap electricity and at the same time create millions of badly needed jobs. Renewable energy would be a win-win situation for our nation. Jeff Wilson just wrote a book called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. I highly recommend this book for anyone concerned about our economy and our dependence on foreign oil. http://www.themanhattanprojcetof2009.com
