To all of the Obama supporters, whatever your reason for supporting him: We who opposed Obama will extend him and your chosen party EXACTLY the same sort of courtesy, respect, decency, support, cooperation, and assistance that you have so generously and enthusiastically given President Bush for the past 8 years, and we will ENJOY doing so, just as YOU have all this time. In fact, we'll try to be even MORE generous! Elephants have LONG memories, you know.

    • Posted By: whatisreal? @ 11/06/2008 4:54:50 PM

While you are paying people back in your infantile way, everybody else will be walking by you saying, " i didn't know the circus was in town".

Your payback will be nothing more than a fly that gets smacked with a fly swatter. Who has time for a roach... It is your problem you supported Bush and are at the place you are. You looked up to an insecure incompetent puppet who took 6 years to finally cut the strings from Dick Cheney.

While I have some sympathy for Bush, and feel he thought he was doing the right thing, I thought he was very narrow sighted and arrogant, and really tried to be something that he had not the capacity or intellect or integrity to pull off. It is a sad chapter in American history, but is a chapter that left us in terrible shape, and was forced down our throats toaccept...

Sorry, not acceptable. I do not set the bar that low and we have to have leaders and they have to be smart and posesss good judgement and thoughfullness.

If Bush wanted respect, and courtesy, he should have had respect for the constitution and respect for jsutice.

So, do what you want, you are no bigger than a roach and the rest of the people with yoru level of immaturity will be marginalized, already are...

The sad part is that Bush thought that we [the American people] were the dumb ones. He actually spoke down to us and treated us as children. Doesn't that make anyone feel a little embarrassed? Perhaps that is acceptable for the republicans after all those years of being manipulated by Rove and Cheny.

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 11/14/2008 6:02:51 PM

What some of you republican haters seem to have forgotten is that people did give Bush a chance, until we found out it was Bush's way or the highway.

So yes, all we are asking for is people give Obama the same chance we gave Bush. If a year from now, it is Obama's way or the highway, then by all means, pee and moan just like we did. And you know what? I'll be right there peeing and moaning with you, because it will mean that Obama did not govern the way he said he was going to govern.

I think the majority of people who did not vote for Obama are doing to do just that - give him a chance. And for the few of you who want to wallow in your anger and bitterness - go right ahead - just do it quietly, as the rest of us are busy making a positive contribution to this country.

I feel unpatriotic for even thinking of posting and being part of a fight that needs to end, but here it goes: lightnin, the very base of logic which supports reason says quite simply that Obama won because McCain lost, or if you don't like that, McCain lost because Obama won. No matter what the question is, we are stuck with the results right here and now. Right here and now, we also have insurmountable problems with our economy. How it got that way is your opinion and you're entitled to it, but don't continue, as elephants do, to rely on your memory to dictate your actions; that will happen all on it's own. Why not try what humans do and forget your differences from others in your species, and work harmoniously with others to make things better for everyone, which also by reason, should include yourself.

Now if I remember correctly, most people of your ilk (for lack of a better word) rely on the condescendingly dismissive comment to forget what somebody else says and remember again how to proceed with your own thoughts, feelings, agendas, etc. instead of working on a new understanding of the ever-changing world around you.

Did you know lightnin, that there are increased reports of wild elephant attacks on human villages? Maybe you could work your courtesy, decency, support, cooperation, and assistance on them. Elephants seem to be fearful of humans!

How bitter you are! Don't you have anyone to share your joy with?

Newsweek: "...The vast flow of information unleashed by the revolution in media technology defined issues and character at warp speed. For months, the worst rumors and conspiracy theories had been aimed at Obama: ..., he was close friends with a former Weatherman bomber from the '60s...."
Obama and Ayers, the Ultra left wing left -wing Weatherman terrorist, weren't exactly stangers.
The reference to Sarah Palin reading John Birch Society magazines is attributed to a photo of her with a JBS reprint on her desk. The reprint was an a JBS article on the Conference of The States proposal . The New American Magazine called reader's attnetion to this fact. It mentioned that a constitutional convention was being peddled by former Utah Governor Mike Leavett. She and other members of the City Council of that small Alaska town were also given the same article ,the gist of which was an Article V call for a Constitutional Convention by Governor Leavett. The Governor was using a "conference of The States" as the pretext to call another constitutional convention . The John Birch Society as well as other groups, as People For The American Way, some labor Unions and organizations one normally associates with liberalism, were opposed to the Conference of The States Con -Con also!

lightning, your comments are so sad and pathetic. And they pretty much prove how there is a large segment of our country who care more about their wounded pride and egos than they do about rising above it all and putting country first. You're upset? Fine, I get it, I was upset for the past 8 years. But I love my country more than I hate Bush. I guess some of us have different ideas on patriotism.

    • Posted By: oldgrouch @ 11/12/2008 5:57:47 PM

Why should we rise above it? The Dems haven't gotten over losing in 2000 yet! Bush tried for years to get cooperation, and was skewered every time. The ONLY cooperation he got was when he used a Dem idea, like the education bill (wrote by Teddy) or the war, when the public would have crucified them. We elected a Chicago thug (Clinton's term). Let's see what he proposes. I predict buyer's remorse, big time.

      • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 11/14/2008 5:55:38 PM

Are you serious? Bush tried for years? What planet are you living on? Bush's entire presidency can be characterized by the term "my way or the high way". His definition of cooperation is that everyone needs to understand that his way is the right way. Good-bye and good riddence!

  • Posted By: debby509 @ 11/06/2008 4:20:47 PM

To all of you Bush supporteres, who so conveniently forget about the 8 years we endured with Clinton, I think you also must remember that Bush won the White House in a court of law. He took the office in a very different situation. We didn't like it, but we dealt with it. After 9/11 he had our support and the whole world's!!!

Look what he managed to do with it. I think you need to understand the country has changed!!!! Look at the areas that went blue. You can say things all you want, but the only people who want to hear it are other people just like you. You continue to talk to your base...which is getting smaller. We want you to keep it up. There will be more Democrats. You need to be more inclusive. You were told something on Tuesday, but it looks like you guys are not good learners. I know you keep saying his win was not as big as Reagan's, but he's black. I'm for GA and I am a white 57 year old woman. I know many people who would not consider him because he was black. You could probably add another few points so we really know it was a sweep.

Rush is already on the airways doing his thing. Many wives later, the lonely old man who laughs his way to the bank at all of his ditto heads jsut keeps on trucking. He thinks what he does is entertainment and sarcasm. He just keeps making the party smaller. People are sick of the politics of fear. We are a great country that will overcome what is thrown at us because we are great and moral...not because we went shopping.

Have fun with all of your visceral talk. Maybe you will realize there are fewer of you listening.

    • Posted By: oldgrouch @ 11/12/2008 5:52:47 PM

All this demonstrates is that you can sell ANYTHING to the American People as long as it has a pretty package. Explain how you will be better off when we turn into France or Germany, who both have significantly higher unemployment than we do. Biden has waved a red flag at the terrorist types and our enemies. How likely is Georgia to be invaded again, permanently, with Obama in charge?

      • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 11/14/2008 5:53:34 PM

Yep, definitely need to change your name to Old Fool.

      Wow Debby, Nicely said!

        Totally. Good job, debby!

It is incredulous to believe that this country has been better economically, socially and politically in the past 8 years. Republicans call themselves Americans. They're not. What kind of people ruin other's? Someone in this post said earlier that you still haven't learned. That you and right wing conservatives like Rush keep playing the same old tune. By 2012 it will not be shock to find the base of your support is smaller. Actually, while I come to think of it I think it was sheer genius on the part of Rush Limbaugh to constantly pound away at the Democrat Party. Look what happened. Thanks Rush!

    • Posted By: oldgrouch @ 11/12/2008 5:46:24 PM

I'm really confused. Which people did Republicans ruin? For most of the last two terms we had job growth, and revenues to the Treasury grew very well, even with two wars going. The problems with the mortgage industry date from as far back as Carter, and Frank and Dodd fought regulations all through the recent past. How is George responsible for this?

      • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 11/14/2008 5:52:45 PM

I think maybe you shoukld change your name from Old Grouch to Old Fool.

  • Posted By: oldgrouch @ 11/12/2008 5:40:03 PM

Sarah Palin was one of the few things McCain did right. All that reaching across did not get McCain the center vote, and lost a significant amount of the conservative vote. The things the pundits said were needed to win did not work. Look at the exit polls. We elected a Chicago Pol with no record to the highest office on earth because McCain could not decide how to run a campaign consistently.

  • Posted By: spotthedog @ 11/12/2008 12:57:03 PM

When the heck is the press going to get it right? McCain was not a fighter pilot, he was a bomber pilot. So there go all your metaphors.

  • Posted By: lwta @ 11/10/2008 5:33:27 PM

Correction: For the record, Todd Palin is not 1/2 Native Alaskan. He is only 1/8 Yup'ik, although i believe he is accepted as Yup'ik. Not sure how this would work out, but all the sources I've seen say his mom is 1/4 Yup'ik, and his maternal grandmother is a member of Curyang (although that doesn't indicate what her blood quantum given); not sure why nothing is said about his mother's blood quantum in that sense.

  • Posted By: femaleFL63 @ 11/09/2008 4:20:27 PM

This is the most interesting reporting about people running for office have read in years. The time has come to really try to fix our government. No more pat you on the back and I'll do the same even if I don't agree. I am proud to be a white, Florida female, 63 years of age and see the hard lessons finally being understood. Thank You All

  • Posted By: siegead @ 11/07/2008 6:52:41 AM

Seems that the "traditional media" were (and remain) well behind the blogs and web publications in terms of really digging into Sarah Palin's history and beliefs. With the exception of the weird frenzy questioning who was the mother (suggesting Palin was covering up for a teen-age pregnancy), it certainly seemed as if blogs were far more on top of and interested in getting to the bottom of Sarah Palin's reality. And, the flood of revelations about Sarah reach biblical proportions, but as with the latest news that it was more than $150 for clothing, the flood has lasted more than 40 days and 40 nights ... and I, for one, do not see any indication that we've run out of material.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 11/08/2008 2:39:08 PM

Dear Bleeding Heart Conservative "siegead": Please explain why it is republicans who purportedly revealing that over $150k was spent on her clothes?

Please also explain why Palin continues to whine that she only "asked for a diet Dr. Pepper", while she doesn't explain how those nasty republicans forced on her $150k of clothes, she a professed maverick, says she didn't want.

Is that anything like her telling the electorate she told the electorate that she told Congress "no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere when in fact she took the federal tax earmark funds for it?

      • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/08/2008 11:46:32 PM

It's the new maverick, doing everything the good ol' boys have always done but pretending you are too good for it.

And let's not be sexist and say Sarah Palin got $150K worth of clothing... The McCain campaign also reported that Todd Palin spent $40K in his clothes : ) ... Ironically, that's what I owe in student loans...

The delicious part of all this? It is not the "liberal media" tearing Palin, it is the McCain campaign and Fox News releasing these news. Apparently, Palin overestimated the "liberal media" and underestimated "community organizers".

  • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/08/2008 11:40:21 PM

There's a lot of holes in this reporting. Little is said of Biden or what Obama's feeling towards him were and to boot, there is nothing about the touch and go on the floor of the convention where Hillary Clinton called for his nomination by exclamation when it was obvious he wasn't going to make it. Whether staged or not, it was scary and then exciting. Then there was no mention of Bill Clinton's five minute standing ovation and his great speech for uniting behind Obama. Lots of holes here.

Agreed clare, other sloppy reporting was calling Wright States Arena a "high school gym". I don't know of many high school gyms that are set on a University, and has nearly 10,000 seats and box suites. Makes me wonder how many other errors are embedded in this story.

  • Posted By: clarequilty @ 11/06/2008 5:17:17 PM

Someone at Newsweek should have bothered to fact check this article. Merrill Lynch was not sold to Morgan Stanley but to Bank of America. This was an inexcusably sloppy error.

  • Posted By: MrsDi @ 11/06/2008 4:32:10 PM

Eight years we enjoyed under the Clinton Administration. From the small business point of view those were the golden years... past eight years have been very dark. Hurrah for change and a sensible thinking president again !

I feel so sorry for someone who is so bitter and hateful that they cannot share in this joyous occasion. Nearly the entire world is all but dancing in the streets, while you spew revenge and hate. Were you aware that hating like that and wanting it to hurt others, is the same as YOU taking poison and hoping THEY will die!
