I think President Obama will face these challenges and do very well. If he uses common sense and knows that "A president does not a government make", he will excel. A few things need to change: Stop refering to him as "African-American". The President of the US should be first and Only American. Second, Affirmative Action can now go away. His election proves its not necessary anymore. Congratulations to the country for being colorblind.

Build up the middle class with good paying jobs and stop or slow the outsourcing and relocation of jobs overseas.
Immigration issue for undocument is a big and #1 causes for this economics problems too, undocument can???t work so they don???t spend, congress need to past some thing fast for all the people to get their right that here before 911and have family connection with us born children and have good American values.
Everyone should have full health Insurance
Education for all and have special learning place for the disabilities
Create jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. and have jobs for our young people part time work 14-18 years
    Cut out all unnecessary spending.
End the costly war and bring our troops home.
When the economy turns around slowly start to raise taxes on the ones who benefited the most from the big tax cuts that caused the national debt to balloon the way it did.
Give tax cuts only to companies that create jobs at home.
Balance the budget and pay down the national debt. No more irresponsible supply side or trickle down economics. Build from the ground up and the money will trickle up.
Put some regulations on Wall Street. Totally unregulated capitalism doesn't mean a great economy.
Have better relations with the rest of the world and restore their trust and respect in us.
Cut spending. Or better yet and in addition to, maybe follow McCain's proposal and temporarily freeze as much spending as possible (we can't exactly freeze it all)

Then do something to encourage Congress to make the US more business friendly and KEEP doing something until Congress realizes that having the second highest corporate tax rate in the world doesn't keep business and jobs HERE.

After that maybe he can get a clue and realize that true job creation is best left to the private sector.
I think the top issue should be War/Economy. You CANNOT separate the two the way the polls on T.V. want you to think. The war has cost us plenty of money we don't have. Not being in war will stabilize the world and the economy of the world a lot more then it is now. Rattling sabers only gets peoplenervous and it is reflected in the markets. Prices rise and fall dramatically on everyday needs because of speculative shortages because of this saber rattling. Money that is spent on the war can be used in other more important
areas. I didn't vote for Obama, but I have to laugh when I read on these message boards that Obama is going to raise taxes. Obama can't raise taxes high enough to equal what has already been taken by Wall Street, the federal reserve and this government.

Although HK people like me do not have right to elect its Chief (esp. the President of US), I am heavily touched by American elected Obama to let the world to see the best beauty in American (both Black & White.) Bringing hope to the world not only because US still remains the largest economy unit so that US has hope to bring confidence to its economy and eventually the world, but most importantly your elected President does bring hope in equality. We all need peace and military is supposed to exercise justice, not to aim war.

richie15kk: The point of voting is to vote for someone with whom you have similar beliefs. Anytime respect or money is more important than lives, there is a serious issues with morality. You are correct about judgement, but the sanctity of marriage was created by God between a man and a woman. I think gays should have equal rights, but not marriage. If someone doesnt want to live under God or God's rules, why would they want to enter into marriage that was created by God. I respect you and I respect your opinion, but what is holding our country back is the absence of Christ.

    • Posted By: richie15kk @ 11/08/2008 1:50:56 PM

I respectfully disagree MysticCobra. There should be civil union, not everyone is Christian and not every american has Christian beliefs. You should not be forcing your beliefs onto others. (Religion aside) It is unconstitutional to deny a group of people the right to civil union.

      • Posted By: MysticCobra @ 11/08/2008 2:30:01 PM

First, let me thank you for being respectful. Not everyone is able to discuss opposing views in a civilized manner. As for marriage, the US adopted this biblical union of a man and a woman just the same with polygamy. This union is to be between 1 man and 1 woman. I am glad that we live in a society with religious freedom, but it was founded on Christian beliefs and we all need Christ. Christ desires a relationship with each and evrey one of us. All religions other than Christianity have been found to have inconsistancies and contridictions. Not one inconsistancy or contradiction can be found in the Christian Bible. Not everyone that claims to be Christian is a Christian and not every Christian fully understands the Bible, but we have assurance of salvation through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

It amazes me that so many people complain about the war and it's cost of our wonderful brave American soldiers, but can vote for a President that supports abortions. There have been over 48,000,000 abortions since Roe v. Wade in 1973. That equals to well over 3000 abortions per day. How can this not be a concern? If you vote for someone who supports abortions, then you are a contributor to all of the lives lost to abortions. Dont get me wrong, I am not an advocate of war. Our nation has developed severe moral problems and for that we will be judged. I dont care what color our President's skin is or what his name is, I care where he/she stands on moral issues. Our nation was founded on Christian principals and until we get back to those beliefs, nothing is going to improve. Even though I dont believe that Obama was the right choice, I will support him as he is our elected President and we all should, but we need to get back to true Christian beliefs as the day of judgement is coming and we will all be held accountable for each and every action. I pray for our nation and our leaders that we can all come to know and trust in Jesus Christ, for without Christ, you are condemmed to Hell.

Turn that first comment around, Mystic...McCain was against abortion, but boy howdy, was he PRO-WAR! Why is that "killing" more horrible than a belief in abortion in cases of rape, incest, or the health of the mother? Your Right Wing Evangelicalism is lost on everyone who vote for Barack Obama...at least WE can read and understand this man's concerns and his plans for this great country.
So, you supported G. W. Bush, and his murdering wars, but you don't back Obama, who doesn't back the wars? Makes perfect sense to me....NOT!

      • Posted By: richie15kk @ 11/08/2008 2:24:38 PM

Well said amethystlady2. spot on, spot on.

      • Posted By: MysticCobra @ 11/08/2008 2:04:02 PM

In the case of abortion, the victom has no possible way to defend hisself or herself. In war-time, both sides have means to defend themselves as well as a choice to pertake in the action or war. I think all-in-all the war on terrorism is necessary to protect not only the US, but also other contries in this world. We (the US) are not the only target of terrorism.

    • Posted By: richie15kk @ 11/08/2008 1:07:39 PM

I am tired of hearing all these Christian freaks that refuse to vote for someone because they might not have the same beliefs as they do. This country is no longer respected by the rest of the world, we are no longer the powerhouse economy, we are wasting billions of dollars a month in Iraq when they have money to spend, and the terrorist group that attacked us is stronger now more than ever, and you want to talk about abortion, and gay marriage ? close minds like this is what is holding this country back...... Do not force your beliefs onto someone else, God will judge them not you. You do not have the right to take away someone else's right. It's called Love thy Neighbor, right ? Not, love thy neighbor (then in small print) under certain conditions and limitations................ Practice what you preach.

leave it to the good-ol' U. S. of A. to elect an inexperienced and scared leader that claims change, but will not deliver. the main reason the world wanted obama to become president is that they could have someone weak to try and take advantage of, and the other reason was that he wasnt a christian, because christianity is what the entire gov't was based off. but now the world expects him to fix everything from global economic depression to geocide in africa, its a lost hope, and now the u. s. is *** and its going to depend on wat its always depended on, its strong military...God help us all.

I don't think the world is expecting Obama to fix all global problems, but I will agree there are high expectations for him. There is no denying that either president McCain or Obama will go into the white house with a mop and bucket............................................

Obama . like many of us. is a multi- racial man dont forget. This is the way of the world now. We need to move forward and stop the negativity and work together to bring the change this country needs. Sure we could comlain and keep bickering and the same old narrow minded things. Whay would be the result? more of the same over and over again. Fiorget the media..we all no they are propaganda. Mc Cain has his skeletons as well as Obam but so do we all. We need to pushthe past aside and live for the future of our children and our world..

This was an ok article that has some bias of course. Everyone says he is a black man, but half of him is white. Obama is a man of color and an American. Race should never become an issue or the days that stand behind our history as a nation concerning slavery.
Being half white and half black can lean towards either race and should never be determined to be one or the other.
The man won the election in a country that is divided within. Republican and democrats alike are guilty of fueling this divide. We are Americans first. Party allegiance is not what we Americans need during these trying times. The media, politicians and the misguided have always looked into this divide and have been satisfied to remain there. Every great nation in the world has fallen because of division and corruption within its society. America is not immune to this fall, but if we continue traveling on this road of party divide, white or black, we will fall like every other great nation has. Obama is our president elect; we must support him for who he represents???.AMERICA.
Keep race, party, color, religion out of the equation. Let???s get serious and look into getting America out of the slump we are in right now. Stop blaming whoever and get to work fixing that which is broken. We all have much to loose if we don???t stop the divide.

Unbelievable...For the first time in my adult life (sound familiar) I am disappointed with my country. We (not me) elected a president with three Islamic names, who has ties to several radical people, who refers to his grandmother as a "typical white person", who believes that HIV was created by the government as Genocide against the "black people", who believes in "black liberation theology", socialism and Marxism, who does not wear the American flag on his suit, who does not place his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance, who wants to sit down and have chats with terrorist leaders, and who believes in government funded partial birth abortions. I'm sure the name will be changed to the "black house" pretty soon and he will be flying an Islamic Flag over it before long. This just goes to show that the majority of American are clueless "sheep". Un-freekin-real!!!!!! It makes me sick to my stomach! God be with us.

none of the global pressures were listed here, the rest of the world wanted obama to be president only because he isnt a christian like the rest of past presidents and that is supposedly the reason that the U. S. is hated so much, but now he's got to realize that the rest of world expects him to fix all global problems as well from the world wide econimical problems to genocide in africa, the world wants obma to fix it, and no one country can do that, especially with an inexperienced and scared leader such as obama.

Here we go with the evil undertones for having a diffrent belief. This is what is wrong with politics today.people do not even know the diffrence between the parties.Obama has been preaching change for 2 years bringing in a new type of government two days in and he goes about hiring clintons old (corrupt) staff. wow knock me over with that change.

I pray the American voters of all races MUST remember throughout Mr.President Elect Barack Obama seeked this position to help change our country for ALL AMERICANS, not a select few. As i have stated in previous comment: We the people should stop looking at our government as the sole source for changing our country. Change in any fashion starts within each of us. I believe President Obama is on a mission for God. Part of his mission is to help USA unite as a people, as a whole. Meaning, that GOD is asking each of us to look within to seek and find talents we have that can contribute to changing our country. If we plan to look for all the answers from President Obama, our country will continue as is, HURTING & LOST. Having a fresh new look in Washington is a start for our country. In order to make REAL CHANGE we all must make our contributions. We must keep praying and asking God to have mercy and help guide our country to CHANGE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALL.

On a mission from God?!!! How delusional can you possibly be! Satan is the God of this world, read your bible! Change isn't necessarily a good thing in and of itself, there are always consequences. Those who elected Obama are caught up in a fairy-tale of feel-goodness and seem completely oblvious to the consequences of what they've just done and who they've really elected simply because the reality behind their choice for president wasn't ever what really interested them. God help us all.

What a disgusting thing our nation has done: We have turned our backs on a man that has served his nation his entire life, including with his life, and have shunned him from the office he would really have excelled in. McCain is the only real choice in this election--the only choice on what's good for America. Yet, instead, we have elected a JR. senator--a man that has lied to his public; a man that has NO EXPERIENCE leading anything; a man that couldn't make up his mind over 130 times during his short tenure as senator; a man that is against gun rights and FOR murdering babies--including full-term babies; and a man that will NOT be good for America. This vote wasn't so much about which man we should elect for president, as much as it was about our own wisdom and intelligence. Obama bought his presidency with 600 million dollars and a liberal media. The Media is mostly largely responsible for his win--shame on you media. When did fair, unbiased reporting die?

    • Posted By: amethystlady2 @ 11/08/2008 1:08:50 PM

Excuse me, jckst...but you are way off base! Most of that "600 million" of Obama's money was donated by people like me...and hundreds of thousands of other supporters. We also gave our time to this dedicated man.
You need to stop listening to the Right Wing Conservative Talking Heads on the radio and cable...they are still spewing their lies and distortions. The MEDIA did not elect Barack Obama...we, the PEOPLE, the VOTERS did.

      • Posted By: jckst @ 11/08/2008 1:27:36 PM

Excuse ME: The media told you to vote for Obama, and you did. The 600 million dollars he raised was historical and mostly went to t.v. ads, ads telling lies about his competition, McCain. McCain ran negative ads too, but they mostly were right on the money. Obama DID have ties to terrorists; Obama DID vote against gun ownership; as a matter of fact, Obama made a statement to the press as a newly elected jr. senator, saying,"just because you have a constitutional right, doesn't mean that the state shouldn't have a right to abolish it," on gun ownership. Obama voted more times against your constitutional rights than any senator ever has, in our country's short history. He is NOT for gun rights, as he claims. He is for killing babies full term. HE lead and passed legislation in his home state that allows doctors to do full-term abortions as the babie is being born, as long as the babies head hasn't exited the canal yet. Obama lied about public funds too. I have not stated anything I know to be untrue. These are all things that you can easily look up and find for yourself. Actually, Obama was a cocaine addict too in his younger years, and you can find that info at wikipedia--he stated it himself. He is the wrong man for the job in the wrong times. I used to be for Obama until I had listened to him change his stance on the issues one too many times, and in my mind, that's called political pandering. It's wrong. He would say one thing to Texas, and a completely different thing to Ohio. I have recorded 17 of his speeches, and in each one, he has changed his stance on key issues. So he basically lied to each different crowd, according to what they wanted to hear, to win their vote. That is wrong. At least with McCain, you KNOW what you're getting--stability, ethics, morals, professionalism, and above all, a love and protection of our constitutional rights. McCain has the leadership skills our country desperately needs right now, not Obama. When the celebration dies down and it's time to do business, Obama will have to really step up to the plate and PROVE that he wasn't a wasted vote. Look, Russia is ALREADY testing him, and waiting for his reply after Bush replies, by saying they will place missile defense in Poland. What the heck? He's in for it, and by more than just the Russians--each nation will watch closely this new president to see his decisions, which will be controlled by the lobbyists requests for all the favors he now owes. A large part of Obama's presidency will be spent repaying favors for his donations, from places like Kenya, Russia, England, Germany, and even Venezuela sent money to his coffers.
Bottom line, forget the liberal media that swung this election and forced you to vote for Obama, the truth is that it worked--money really CAN

In theory... you can't please all of the people all of the time. That said, let's be grateful that the president elect has illustrated more competence than his fallen rival. I would encourage critics to rethink their stance, set aside the criticism and discriminative remarks and give Obama a chance; he has many obstacles in his path but so far has managed to hurdle them gracefully. In reality, it is impossible to expect that everyone will be 100% satisfied with the outcome... there will always be the "what if's... and ...but's..." from those who chose to remain narrow-minded.

Not that I want to ride the negativity train that seems to be rolling through this post, but after reading the post by angel_53 I would have to say that ignorance is certainly the fuel for that train. In my opinion you have to look at the bigger picture. This election proves two things about this country that have been clouded by recent elections and political scandals, and that is this; anyone can become the President of the United States if they work hard enough and aim high enough, second, we "The American People" are the ones who decide who gets elected and who does not. Obama might have won by a small margin in percentage points, but those percentage points amount to millions of voters. I think that both parties made mistakes, and both parties made good points, and in the end the majority was heard. Be proud that we live in a country where we can exercise this process, and if you???re not proud to live and be a part of this country, then move to a country you can be proud of. Again, this is my opinion, you have the right (which was afforded to you by the men and women who fought and died to ensure you have them) to do two things, you can either revel in negativity and be a part of the problem bringing the spirit of this country down; or you can stand up for what you believe in, even if it goes against the electoral majority, and do everything you can do to change the way things are being done. As I see it 52% did just that, I hope that the other 48% don't give up because they were defeated this time, I hope they continue to stand up and fight for what they believe in. Also if you did not vote in this election and had the opportunity to do so, it is my opinion that you really should look at your own fundamentals before questioning or complaining about the fundamentals of others.
