I'm glad we'll have a President with a brain this time going around. I don't know what it is about the GOP that makes anti-intellectualism a plank in their platform. I watched Sarah Palin from the start and she is just not a thinker. She is a great attack dog throwing out platitudes and gee whizzes and oh gollies, but when it comes to really having a grasp about the important issues of our time, she is totally clueless. What scares me is that I know so much more about foreign policy, issues, and have a zest for learning more, more than she does -- and I'm just a little ole Office Manager (and no, I would not vote for myself as President). Let's get rid of these hayseeds and dimwits and start sending intelligent, thoughtful people to government positions -- Barack is a great start!
I want more.!!!
i LIKE YOU, WANT MORE, BEHIND THE SCENES ARE SOME VERY GOOD STUFF
Most even tempered Democrats are near the center on most issues. For a Republican to sacastically demonize all Dems as the same person and then say all Republicans are not "right wing nuts" is the epitome of hypocrisy.
I found this article very neutral but cannot say McCain did anything honorably at all. He did not distinguish himself as at all likeable or tolerant. I found him to be a rather typical brand of Karl Rove Republican who divides fosters anger and sprinkles hints of racism and intolerance. I hope he fades away or maybe just flip-flop and say that he wants to work with Obama all of a sudden.
If there's any change, it's just going to be partisan, just like every election before. This election is historic because of the skin color of the president elect only. With a Devocratic Administration and Democratic Congress, you bet there will be change, and that's the only change we can believe in.
I think Sean Hannity needs to leave Faux News. He is soooo biased. Never a good word to say about the Democrats. Even if he does not agree with them, he needs to be respectful. I am sure his mother taught him to respect others. Sad to see what he ahs become.
JAMAAL IS AN IDIOT.
Jamaal is an idiot and reason enough why we should all be very frightened of Democats.
Totalling enlightening and enjoyable. Well done to everyone that contributed to this. However, I do think Chapter 7 lacks the depth of previous chapters. Could you rewrite this to make it as brilliant and insightful as the other chapters?
Robert Jordan is the protagonist of Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls", not "A Farewell to Arms", as the article states.
Beat you to it. See my comment earlier. McCain probably never read the book. He just had an aide summarize it for him.
I could not stop reading this - incredible writing. I was happy to hear both sides.
Outstanding piece of reporting...an in-depth look at not just one, but several campaigns over a long period of time! -Neill Fatkin, Florida
great article.
Tod Palin making calls in Alaska to hold 'the powder' for 2012 is so telling of Palin's real motive.
I want more! No seriously, great work Newsweek. I plan on buying the magazine so that I can keep it.
I really enjoyed this article it was well written and insigtful. It really made me view Mc Cain in a brighter light. But onthe other habd Palin as her consituent's would says is Un-Alaskan. But the up hill battle Obama faced and conquered was a historic triupmh for him, his family , the american people and the world over. He has conveyed a message that no matter where you come from that through hard-work detemination, community that all dreams are obtainable. Good Job!!!
This was a wonderful and insightful article. It really made me realize that Mc Cain wasn't so bad after all, but Palin she's as some of her on constituent's would say " Un-Alaskan".I really feel that change has come and will continue to come not only for American's but also for the world alike.
I didn't like Palin to begin with and after reading this I like her even less. Perhaps the good people of Alaska will see her for what she is and vote her out of office. Perhaps if she does give any post-election interviews people will realize just how stupid she is and let her fade away. For someone who considers herself a Christian, she behaves in a terribly un-Christian-like manner.
This read like a great American novel. Fantastic work guys.
This really humanizedMcCain for me. Chin up guy.
Again, you outdid yourselves with this one.
Seriously, outstanding story. You guys really outdid yourselves here.
You reallyhumanized McCain for me. I don't hate him anymroe. Poor dude. Chin up guy.
But seriously, this reads like a great American novel.
I could read this all day, it is intriguing to read about all the behind the scenes stuff. I can only imagine the personal toll it takes on so many people! I am looking forward to an Obama run America. I was and still am inspired by his ability to motivate many and stay so poised through the whole election. He has made me take a long, hard look at what I can do locally to make this country a better place and I try to tell others the same. I hope every else gets that message, that it is going to take ALL of us to come together and help each other out to make this country what it once was.
