How typical of the leftist Clift and her ilk to exaggerate the Obama win talking about the "Obama uprising!" Yes he won, no one can deny it but look at all the money he spent in doing so. 53% of the popular vote is not that great when you have a billion dollars to spend and two years to waste in trying to get elected! Campaign finance reform is a joke!

And the white vote was against him (55% - 43%), about the same as Clinton got. McCain & Palin got 46% of the popular vote which is not too shabby considering all the problems they had to deal with. And the leftist media with people like Clift was a cheering squad for Obama while they demonized the Reps.. They managed to get their candidate elected but now he will actually have to govern, something he has never done before. He is just a clown and he will fall on his face!

The country is in for a rough two years until the Republicans can take back the Congress in the mid-term elections. And as far as the youth vote goes, it was not decisive in his win. Now that the election is over, the youth will find another interest. The two days after the election, the stock market tanked. That shows just how much confidence this country has in Obama and the Dems!

A BILLION dollars and two years WASTED.

53% of the popular vote is more than Bush ever got. And Bush got far less electoral votes. Unless the Republicans get their act together and start practicing what they preach (after they decide what they preach), "retaking Congress" in two years will solve nothing. Republican policy is what got America into the mess it's in now in the first place.

I am so tired of hearing that Obama only won because he outspent Mc Cain. All that means is that the Republicans CHOSE not to support their candidate and THAT is why he lost.

As I read the thoughts of the other posters on this page, I probably have a similar tendency to judge DoloresScranston as a right wing religious conservative. I may then discount her/his opinion as uneducated, reactionary, hateful, cynical, and fatalistic like others do. But this goes nowhere. And how would I expect you to ever listen to my side of the story? For example, I consider myself a fundamentalist Christian, but I voted for Obama. Why? Because my values tell me that this world is no longer a one-issue world. Judge me if you like, Dolores, but I promise to respect your opinion. Respect and dignity are patriotic values. Squabbling and name calling are so grade school.

Drill here and drill now is one solution ....mine baby mine...drill baby drill...construct the TransCanada Pipeline from Alaska through Canada and to the lower 48. When Obama pulls the troops out of Iraq you can bet dollars to donuts the Middle East will destabilize and implode which will result in ...you guessed it ...high gas prices. Obama should'nt be so hasty with his plan to cut back on the military and remove forces out of Iraq until the US has secured a more abundant source of energy or else it will be absolute chaos.
Thats why the stabilization of mortgages , building up energy independence and to make sure the money used from the bailout will result in something thats value added for the taxpayer and not wasted away to reward badly managed companies and corrupt CEO's is priority number one in the interest of national security...if Obama doesn't focus on this but instead spends his time dabbling into nonproductive foreign affairs activity it will all come back to bite him in the ass.

    Anything can happen in America???

You can literally be ANYBODY and win an election, something that I bet a lot of lazy (and criminally inclined) children will be happy to learn. From now on, experience, knowledge, intelligence, character, associations, intentions, substance, and demeanor will be irrelevant, if you are fortunate enough to belong to an ethnic minority that the Media wishes to promote and that enough European Americans can feel guilty for.

In this first (and probably not last) AFFIRMATIVE ACTION election, we have discovered that if you promise enough nonsense to those who are desperate for a handout, you can be victorious. We have discovered that when you allow the spread of ignorance, entitlement, and irresponsibility throughout an entire population, you can reach very high (note to self when selling any product!).

Yesterday was the beginning of the end for the United States of America. We are only left to see what we can create from the ashes of this entire mess. WE will have to get ready for the tornado that is about to hit us, and be ready to take over from the mindless hordes that now dominate our land.

Will many of these same ???AmeriCONS???, as I will now call them, ever learn?

Yesterday, people elected a clone of Mr. 2000 and 2004. An unprepared empty suit of a man, whom we shall forever call the Affirmative Action Bush (AA Bush for short).

What will be our next step?

I'm sorry, I can't muster the outrage you seem to think is so required here, at least not until Megatron and Starscream show up to start running the country and Obama puts the Constructicons in charge of the 9/11 memorial...

Eleanor appears to have succintly captured the situation. Obama has mobilized a group of supporters that now have expectations that may or may not be met. She does omit that a well timed financial crisis that government caused and resultant recession reversed fortunes in the final stages putting him in the presidency. We must now hope that he can elevate himself to proactive leader from the reactive partusan politician he has been to date.

"We must now hope that he can elevate himself to proactive leader from the reactive partusan politician he has been to date."

Huh? A President who says "To those who did not vote for me - I hear your voices. And I will be your President too." - a "reactive partisan politician?" What about Sarah Palin inciting crowds to such a frenzy they actually say "Kill him!!!!"???

If my party gives the GOP a hand out of obscurity by going to the gun-control pit, or attampts to regulate airwaves to silence the likes of Rush or others of his ilk, then we'll lose. The best way to maintain a solid majority is to not play into their hands, and leave their paranoid trips alone. The far right has already started the rumor mill on gun control, causing sales to skyrocket.
Learn from the mistakes of the first two years of the Clinton Administration. Go for the big wins and leave the hostility buttons alone.
I think the main reason for hiring Rahm was to keep Pelosi and Reid in line, not to oppress stupid John Boehner of Ohio, who has less relevance than a trapped rat. Rahm will go for the middle of the road stuff and help build an 8 year administration that expands electoral majorities in each successive election.
End the Iraq War. Get the Domestic Energy Issues worked. Support American manufacturing and American jobs. Tax the living snot out of the top 1-2% to pay down the debt. Keep the far left as away from power as we want the far right and we'll keep it.

Chris Matthews shows his true colors. Talk about an ongoing free pass!:
Matthews: "I Want To Do Everything I Can To Make This...New Presidency Work"

matthews_11-6b.jpgChris Matthews appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe this morning to discuss Rahm Emanuel's decision to announce he has not yet accepted President-Elect Barack Obama's offer for White House Chief of Staff and other Obama-related stories.

But after some questioning by co-host Joe Scarborough, Matthews said, "I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work."

"Your job as a journalist is to make this presidency work?" asked Scarborough.

Scarborough, co-host Mika Brzezinski and guest Richard Stengel continued the conversation about a journalist's role with Matthews throughout the interview. Stengel described the "constitutional responsibility" of journalists to "hold his feet to the fire."

Matthews is a citizen. It is up to all of us citizens to support and try and make this presidency work. Otherwise is simply unamerican. You're sure not going to hear Hannity or O'Reilly say they are supporting him. They are still in "take down" mode and will be for sometime.

Hannity Limbaugh and the like have Oppositional-Defiant disorder, masking as journalism, working for the GOP.

If you want to hand me a check I will take it, like most I could use it for sure. I don't think we are taking the right approach to fixing our economy. Energy Independence needs to be included in the realm of our serious economic issues. Our dependence on foreign oil impacts every aspect of our society and economy. This past year our wallets were emptied by high prices at the pump. The cost of food and every consumer product has risen because of increased production and shipping costs. The average family had no money left over to spend, save or invest. So we tighten our belts, we spend less because we have less and sadly that results in more job losses. We have so much available in the way of FREE energy, solar and wind that can be utilized to replace oil. Hybrid and electric plug in cars would replace another huge percentage of our dependence on foreign oil. We spent 168 BILLION on a stimulus pkg that did nothing for our economy. Now there is talk of another stimulus pkg. Why not invest in initiating alternative energy sources and making hybrid and plug in car technology affordable for the average Joe. It cost the equivalent of 60 cents a gal of gas to drive an elec car. Investing in renewable sources of energy would create millions of badly needed jobs. It is a win-win situation. We have the knowledge and the technology, what we seem to lack as a nation is a PLAN. Jeff Wilson has a great new book out called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is worried about our economy and interested in seeing our country become energy independent! http://www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com

Why can't Obama sound more assertive. All he has to do is say, enough of the bailouts, look after the mortgages first that are defaulting so Americans don't have to worry about losing their homes and the rest of the homeowners that can pay their mortgage or already own their home won't have to worry about their homes being devalued. He can take a lot of the anxiety and fear right away by doing that..but he didn't.
Job number one is to restore calm and remove uncertainty so the markets are not in panic mode. The longer Obama stalls not only will he make the situation worse in America but he's not going to win any support around the globe either. Something to think about.

Comment: to sjlokinawa; Your divisive commentary is similar to the divisive campaign run by McCain. Americans are tired of this kind of rhetoric and that is one reason McCain was defeated. His service his admire by most Americans. The political affiliation of military personnel is less insightful than their socioeconomic status (lower to middle class). It is time that service to our country is shared by all .

Congratulations! Democrats enjoy your moment in "liberal bliss" bashing John McCain, Sara Palin and the Republican Party to victory! Only in America could someone who defended his country in war and tortured for five and a half years in a prison camp. And then serve his country as a US senator would he be considered an evil, disgusting and vile person. I am sure the Taliban could not agree more and is also jumping for joy as well. It would be very rood of me not to mention the wonderful letter of congratulations, Obama received from the chief sponsor of terror, Iran???s president! But don???t worry, since the last study conducted suggests ninety percent of the US Military is registered as a Republican bearing ninety percent of the burden concerning the War on Terror.?????????.Oh noooooo! Obama, you can???t have that! Only Democrats are true Patriots! Liberals! Tme to grab you???re helmets and rifles to embrace your radical Muslim friends, Oprah can lead the the battalion! Good luck!

voting for obama is like paying a contractor up front to do work on your house and you know the contractor has no experience. but its ok because his speeches make people cry.

    • Posted By: buzzboyd @ 11/08/2008 7:09:06 PM

I suppose it makes more sense to hire a contractor with experience in specific parts of the house but may be too old and worn out to finish it. So his backup is a younger contractor who thinks the housing foundation is a country. And experience can be replaced or bridged by cramming really really hard as you would for a college exam.

"Criticized for abandoning the public finance system, he upheld the spirit of reform by breaking the grip of the big donors and special interests."
    __________________________
Not quite. Lost in the attention given to Obama's Internet surge is that only a quarter of the $600 million he has raised has come from donors who made contributions of $200 or less, according to a review of his FEC reports. That is actually slightly less, as a percentage, than President Bush raised in small donations during his 2004 race...Washington Post

Bush set the stage for this sea change in America. The past eight years seem like the dark ages. President Obama will need all Americans to do their best to save our nation. We must stop this costly war and send Iraq the bill. We must rebuild America and create more jobs.
