    It is wrong,
    absolutely wrong to say that,
pakistan is doing little not enough,
the reality is that Pakistan is doing more than before,
vide the ground millitary oprations in the pointed area,
    we are serving ,sacrificing,
but delivering mere statement made it useless,

Vide the record of U.S.A. forces,
in regard to rooting out the insurgency,
    within seven years,
you will come to the conclusion that,
not only American but also North Atlantic Treaty Orgnisation's millitary
has been failed in completing its true mission,
    so time is not enough,
resources for this purposes are also not enough
    the ground reality is that,
Pakistan already facing worst ecnomic crisis.

    In recent days,
    what the super power done,
    carrying out the secret order,
strike by oredator dron air craft started
on the territory in side its front line ally Pakistan,
what they were doing by committing such acts,
    undermining newly elected government,
which has committment to finishe insurgency.

    When civillans dies,
    in such attacks,
    a tremendous reaction creats,
and the common people began to support millitants,
understanding that the millitants were on right side,
    so should avoide such attacks.

    Pakistan is right,
    when raising objection ,
    against such attacks,
    in its territory,
if great partner want Pakistan remained in allience,
he will have respect and honoure of the people's life,
    its territorial integrity.

    Sultan Ahmed, fsd.Pakistan.

The only terrorists one can find are in the rank and file of US forces and its intelligence agencies. These are the real bad guys that need to be brought to justice, and they sure will be.

bottom line. You come home from work to find your wife and kids have been blown to pieces in an airstrike by a foreign power and they say sorry, it's just collatoral damge. I would want to kill people of that foreign pwer for what they did and I think many Americans would think the same. How can we fight an enemy, when we are his best recruiting tool ?

    • Posted By: true politic @ 11/10/2008 1:44:13 AM

Why don't you move to there to share your view with them?

      • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 11/10/2008 12:11:37 PM

i think they understand the view already...as weve seen...

im with trencher 100%...we could have come into the middle east as liberators, now we are just occupiers. a super power with no regard to innocent life...how many innocents must die before we feel the rush of "victory"? we lost a few thousand on 9/11, but is it right to go back and do the same? i find it funny how the deaths caused by out military are never mentioned, how many villiges we destroyed because we "had good intelligence" that a senior alqeada operative was in the "area"...

it was said before but wars in the modern world cant be won by bombs and bullets anymore, we need delegation, REAL delegation, not a few of our top officials saying "if you dont do this, we will strong arm you until you get the idea". wars are won through the hearts of people, many more would be on our side if we were providing real answers to other cultures, not just democracy. they need hospitals, schools, jobs, security, roads, medical supples, food water. if we step up and start providing more of what they really need as opposed to promised "protection" by said extremists, then there would be a different story unfolding.

we have become the best recruiting tool of jihadists...

More Predators Please! The advent of American direct attacks on the terrorists holed up in Pakistani territory is the only real evidence of progress after the early days of the Afghan Invasion. The Taliban and their guests the Al Quaeda, are created and nurtured by Durrani and the Pakistani Army. US attacks only undermine the Pakistani Armies protection of Al Quaeda and the Taliban - hence this protest by Durrani

    • Posted By: kitten4 @ 11/08/2008 5:36:32 PM

unfortunately, guys like you are destroying the cooperation between the US and Pakistani Military. Reading stuff like this shows high levels of ignorance of the real problems. May be you should go and visit the area to talk to some of these leaders, on both sides. THEY DO WANT TO SEE AN END TO THIS, but hatred has never served anyone, and fingerpointing is just another way of saying I don't understand.

      • Posted By: svengali @ 11/10/2008 11:19:32 AM

If you think the Pakistani Army cooperates with anyone other than the Taliban and the Al Quaeda, you have to be so gullible that another ten attacks like 9/11 will not wake you up.
Please come to Pakistan and talk to the long suffering people to understand how the Pakistan i Army has functioned since the formation of this failed state.

      • Posted By: true politic @ 11/10/2008 1:47:56 AM

Yes, you are right. Do not just sit here and talk about forgiveness. Go to Pakistan border and talk about forgiveness to them. Let's see how long you can keep your head on your neck with the taliban??

Kitten4.Your kind of talk belongs in a sunday school. Please Get real. Haven't you seen videos of the Taliban,Al Quaida and other Muslim Jehadis slitting the throats of innocent civilians.Your ' turning the other cheek' attitude will not lead the destruction of the evil in Pakistan.

Don't thust the pakistanis as a matter of fact don't trust any muslim they eat and sh*t on the same plate. They fcuk their MOTHERS & SISTERS AND SALUTE THEIR FATHERS. This is a true fact can be proved. Americans helped Afghanistan drive Rushians out which was very much in Pakistans instrest. What did they Americans get in return a 9/11 attack. This how the Muslim World appreciates American help.

The Russians lost 50,000 soldiers to war deaths, suicides, and illness while using our current military tactics during their 11-year war ion Afghanistan, against ragtag forces . But we are in a dead-end trajectory in a country named Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Afghanestan or ???The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan??? (herein referred to as the ???I.R.A.???), fighting new generations and more to follow.

Who are we fighting, for what reason? What will we gain and what???s the consequences of what we started? Do we really think we can build a ???democracy???, a word that we throw out and around the world, which means absolutely nothing to many nations? How long will it take? How much will it cost and how will we pay for it? What are the milestones? What is victory? Does continuing the war make us more regionally undesirables? Are we strengthening the regional radical fundamentalist in Pakistan and elsewhere leading to nuclear- armed hatred towards us? Will our military and their families continue to be abused with no cause and no end? Hopefully, we will not simply continue the same senseless dead-end trajectory because we think we have to win some undefined victory or become ???un-American.???

By giving Bin Laden a 7-year reprieve, we are now fighting an even more empowered and unified Taliban militant religious movement, Islamic extremists, patriotic nationalists and drug lords that make the Mexican or Colombian cartels seem like boy scouts. They don???t wear uniforms, and they don???t need Al-Qaeda. They are surrounded by nations who despise infidel troops, who support them with weapons, manpower, logistics, and bases, and they don???t need our money since they grow and supply illegal drugs. We have allowed them become stronger by our obsessive focus on the oil in Iraq.

If we somehow reasoned, after punishing the Taliban for hosting Bin Laden, that we could now bring ???democracy??? to I.R.A., our political leaders, intelligence and military failed to tell our brave soldiers or the American people that I.R.A. could never be unified. I.R.A. has over 50 political parties, independent tribal and religious leaders and warlords, over 60 Pashtun tribes and 400 sub-clans. One may become the corrupted and anointed president of the capital Kabala, as is president Karzai, but that is provided one receives 50% of the vote. But who votes? The President of IRA only governs our new ???Green Zone???, Kabul, anyway. If we had a President that only governed Washington D.C., how effective would his/her policies be? It is obvious that true democracy is not possible in the I.R.A.

It???s not intelligent to theorize winning conflicts rooted in liberation, integration, religion. Remember Vietnam? What we face now is worse, because it is religious extremism with no borders, and our worst nightmare since our closest ally and friend, the cruel dictatorship of neighboring Pakistan is now gone. The united opposition is supported by religious radicalism with nuclear w

I love this country but the governments foreign policy is haphazard and if you really look at it from another view point it would almost seem evil. If some other country made troop incursions into our country it would be war. The Pakistan Government is trying to keep Washington pleased and is doing its best to take care of extremist groups. But at the same time they are not on a stable base. The Pakistani people feel they are fighting Washington's war. Washington does not need to rush action and undermine the government but support it, pherhaps gain "The hearts and mind" by offering economic and humanitarian help, set up infastructure, education, etc. Thats what wins a modern day war, not bullets as the US believes.

How can the world stop the American aggression? 4 countries in the middle east are now being bombed by US. Hopefully the financial crisis will take some of the air out of the American Empire and stop the expansion. We can only hope that EU or Russia will take over some of the influence in the middle east before America starts world war 3

    • Posted By: true politic @ 11/10/2008 1:40:56 AM

Well you should be able to got to Pakistan border and work with Taliban or terrorism. Just show them how to live humanly in the 21st century

  • Posted By: Aditya Mookerjee @ 11/09/2008 7:21:20 PM

The news of American drone aggression on the borders of Pakistan is disturbing. I am, I consider myself, as an Indian, but the shared history of Pakistan, and India, when the two nations were one, does make me feel unhappy at the situation in which Pakistan finds itself.

    • Posted By: true politic @ 11/10/2008 1:37:51 AM

you should go back to Pakistan and ask them stop practicing or harbor the terrorism before you post your comment.

  • Posted By: true politic @ 11/10/2008 1:35:45 AM

You have two choices with a peaceful solution:
    - you should lay down your arm and negotiate with terrorist until they sit on your bed and point their gun on your forehead.
    - You should convert all Americans to islam and practice sharia law. There will be no need for judges, government offices or congress. The mullas can take care of everything

  • Posted By: MegaDeath @ 11/09/2008 7:47:32 PM

I think that the Pakistani's should stop their crying and get use to it. War is hell and there are no rules of who should live or die. Until all of those that planned 9/11 are killed, then the bombings should stop.

  • Posted By: Aditya Mookerjee @ 11/09/2008 7:28:03 PM

Perhaps, it is not a good Idea to bomb the tribal areas and then to go and administer remedies. Why should the lives of those be lost who are innocent?

  • Posted By: ANALYSIS @ 11/09/2008 4:04:09 PM

Pakistanis claim this is not their war. It's a problem that US created a while back. So let the US fight it too.
Wait. Didn't the Pakistanis heartily accept the billions that came their way at the time? They want billions more but, don't fight the islamic militants (with unfortunate civilian casualties) because Pakistan military gave birth to the Taliban and many in the military sympathize with some of these radicals. Pakistani double-speak

  • Posted By: nawawimohamad @ 11/09/2008 4:22:34 AM

The tribal region of Pakistan have long been autonomous and had never been a problem to Pakistan. It was after the US involvement in Afghanistan that the whole region seems to be the enemy. Pakistan is more in need of economic development, not military supremacy! Pakistan should stop being the shoe-polish boy of the US and instead with whatever little bargaining power it has, must persuade the US from meddling with the sanctity of the region. The US does not diffrentiate between the local tribes and the refugees from Afghanistan. The US will just continue its indiscreminate bombing, thus killing everybody.

    • Posted By: MadHax @ 11/09/2008 11:04:59 AM

If only Pakistan effectively hunts down OBL, the Predator strikes and other incursions will be automatically reduced. But no, the terrible Pakistani ISI will never allow for this to happen. So the US must march on and do their job for them.

  • Posted By: raj gupta @ 11/08/2008 4:58:45 AM

USA needs to dismantle the entire Pakistani Army & kill them first then automatically the manpower & armour of Taliban / AL Queda will be destroyed. Also giving Musharraf a bout of interrogation in Gitmo will help catch Osama .

I don;t think the purpose of this article was to instigate an Indian attack on Pakistan on the Newsweek website. The issue at hand isn't the Indian hatred for Pakistani's., or the prejudice both sides have for each other.

Intelligence agencies of a country are not representative of its people. Whether we talk about the ISI, the CIA, or in fact, RAW. Let's not show off our personal hatred towards each other, not the best way to achieve any solution.

      VERY WELL SAID

  • Posted By: Trooper101st @ 11/08/2008 9:45:55 AM

We gave them BILLIONS since this began, and really, where is the progress? Last May there close to 40 camps inside the FATA. In October the count was 160! Wat happened? Well, the US taxpayers got ripped off, the P-stani's appeased these DOGS, and now Pandoras Box is open. Thier ISI, thier military and FC ALL help the T-ban/AQ. I can recall a half dozen incidents where we were engaing the hadji's, the FC, or thier Army opened fire on US. You recall the 500lb PGM's that killed some of thier FC? IT happened coz they decided to become hostile to US forces. After 8 years, P-stan has become home for islamic fundamentalists, intent on destroying the West. WAKE UP!! They are running game on us it makes us look foolish. No, the strikes continue, and if they don't start closing the terror camps, WE WIL:L.

    • Posted By: Tirah @ 11/09/2008 4:34:48 AM

Trooper10ist, I suggest you read "Ghost Wars" by Stephen Coll. It may clear your vision a little bit.
You have hate because someone opened fire on you, they have hate because they have seen blood and war instigated by the Americans.. Two sides to every story, and it's too technical and tricky for puppets (both you and the locals) to judge each other because what is happening is not in your control. .. however, your words and actions can influence development of peace..

    • Posted By: Straight Speak @ 11/09/2008 4:09:14 AM

Trooper101st.Thanks for speaking from experience.Unfortunately some of your country men are plain dumb they just cant see the end game the Pakis are playing. With your $s they are gioing to screw you...how more dumb can you be.

  • Posted By: kitten4 @ 11/08/2008 5:29:27 PM

I am very glad these "incidents" are coming to the surface with the seriousness they deserve. General Durrani is a most knowledgeable and involved person. Pakistan is very lucky to have people like him sho understand both sides of the coin, meaning American Government attitudes and problem solving methods as well as he knows his own culture and its administrative stand. Unfortunately, we do not have people with this talent. This is what creates these bloddy messes, and wrong outcomes of our activities. Hopefully, a new leader in the White House will bring more thoughtfulness and cooperation rather than willful agression.

    • Posted By: Straight Speak @ 11/09/2008 4:19:14 AM

Kitten4.It is he for the like of General Durranis that Pakistan is a basket case and a failed state. Please see them for what they are.....their Government , Military and the Jehadi muslims are no friends of the civilized world.Certainly not of America

  • Posted By: fluffy II @ 11/08/2008 8:47:43 AM

This interview by Ron Moreau is a thoughtful and probing one. The bottom line is the U.S. and Pakistan must harmonize their strategies in order for Al Qaeda and the Taliban to be extinguished. Unilateral drone attacks in an allied country is wrong and counter-productive. As an American, I'm looking forward to better coordination between the new U.S. administration and the relatively new administration in Pakistan and believe that they can work in tandem.

By the way, it is scandalous that there are commenters in this column that promote such base feelings of bigotry and hatred. They do nothing to contribute to this discourse which affects the security of all of us and I'm going to report it as abuse.

  • Posted By: Ritesh @ 11/08/2008 3:07:15 AM

What United States needs to do is stop giving Pakis billions of dollars in aid for fighting terrorism and those military equipments, the reason being is that, the pakis did not even confront those talibansa nd al qaida in Northern frontier region, where the terrorist heaven is. But when United States does something in that region it pisses them off. Everybody knows that ISA supports Al Qaida and Taliban.

    • Posted By: HOMIRUSTOM @ 11/08/2008 7:40:02 AM

VERY WELL SAID I 100% AGREE WITH YOU U.S. SHOULD STOP GIVING PAKIATANI BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. THE BILLONS OF DOLLARS GIVEN TO THEM WAS A WASTE.

  • Posted By: raj gupta @ 11/08/2008 5:06:30 AM

Hope Obama will get after Osama as committed . Razing the Paki Garrisons will not take much time & will certainly get OSAMA an immediate death sentence.

Talking to Pakistan has paid no one in history of man kind.
