My goodness, Jackieboy - I will bet you I know alot more about Africa than you! Care to bet, Jackiegirl?
Are you from South Africa? I have friends from South Africa and they are really good people. I was just wondering why you don't seem to get American politics or anything so far. That would explain it.
Did they move Iran to Africa?
The press are disgusting hypocrits, Obama campaign of the "failed" policies of Bush's Foreign Policy, now he's in no hurry to keep his campaign promises. Any of them for that matter.
kalamere, Maybe he's got some sort of strange notion that he ought to wait 'til he's President?...
I recently retired after spending a lifetime teaching school in south Los Angeles. I've sort of adopted Obama as one of my honorary former students because he embodies many of the ideals that I attempted to teach my students. One of my former students, a candidate for graduate school, sent me an email calling Obama Barack O'BALLA.
Actually that's not a bad nickname. Let's examine our Arch-Enemy, Iran as an example Obama is in control of the ball. He's got a leading score (Among the young in Iran, he's probably more popular than the mullahs) , time clock is running out (Iran's elections are slated for June 2009), and he's got control of the ball. What would any serious "balla" do?
Obama has proven to be wise, prudent, and cautious. He has refused to take any foreign policiy initiative now because he firmly believes there's only one president at a time. He seeks consensus rather than division. This will serve him well in the field of foreign policy. Obama may well follow many of the recommendations listed here.
I was watching the remake of Hair Spray last night on HBO and one of the characters delivered a line that so appropriately describes a bottom feeding , mouth-breathing member of the Republican party of Hate.
When you talk with a Republican..."You can expect a Whole Lot of UGLY coming from a Whole Lot of STUPID!"
I don't think it is the GOP as a whole, there are good people there too. it is these fringe freaks from both sides that stir the pot and say really ignorant things.
The GOP needs to decide if it is going to be a puppet of the 'values voters' with their 2 issues, or move into this century. While they are controlled by the money given by the churce goers to the church leaders who use it for the politics of division, they will continue to be on their own. That will not win elections any more. Hypocrasy does not sell so much, they have been exposed big time.
The sad thing for the GOP is that many in the center want to move to the future, but the base to the right has the money, money from doners that believe they are given to a Godly cause. Those people are not only being used they are losing touch with reality.
When you say Good people, do you mean good and ignorant.? If a person knowingly follows party leaders who preach hate how could they be good? If you're saying they know not what they do, maybe you could suggest they're good. How would you like that hung on you? He's a good guy but he doesn't know anything. She's a good peron but she's an imbecile.
The "values" voter is nothing more than a term made up by the mouth-breathin GOP to belittle those that vote for a Democrat. If you don't vote Republican, you lack values and therefore are devoid of morals or ethics.
No I mean fiscal conservatives that are good people with a different view.
I make absolutley no excuse for ignorance. The GOP party as a whole has sold out to the base which is out of touch and full of hypocrasy
Ya, that is why I put values voters in quotes.
If a person is a fiscal conservative and good, then he or she is a good person. The fact that they are or aren't fiscally conservative doesn't reflect on one's character.
Most of us, I think, are fiscally conservatives to some degree. We don't think it's ok to spend more than we make and we know now, with Social Security and 401Ks in peril, that we should be cautous.
Unfortunately, fiscal conservatism has come to mean that helping the needy is a waste of money. The same fiscal conservatives seeming have no problem with the rich becoming rich while the rest of us are on our own.
I'm willing to share and I admire those like Bill Gates, his father and Warren Buffet who are super-rich but believe they owe the country something.
Most of the people I know who pride themselves on being fiscal conservatives are really just cheap and self centered. Isn't it always this person that doesn't chip in for a retirement gift or doesn't bring anything in for the food drive?
How about this? When we're going to use fiscal conservative in a comment, we use fiscon instead. It's a lot less to type.
Fiscon sounds good...
I guess i am saying i hope to God that the GOP takes control and sends their base looking for some other party to hijack. They should have their own party of politics and religion. Then they can stand on thier own, bet you the base would nto survive wiithout a host. Kind of like a parasite...
Let???s look at the reality we all know and just use some common sense. We are currently hearing, without any apology or acceptance of guilt, many Republicans saying that the Republican Party simply got away from the basics and they now need to get back to the basic principals of: low taxes; small government; and freedom without government interference. Well we have seen much of that pushed through over the last eight years, with the total stubborn support and backing of the Republican Party by the way, and we now have seen the drastic results and the harm done especially to the middle-class, which then really impacts the total economy. Also I don???t really think many people actually want an excessively large government, with a lot of interference and implementing an aggressive tax and spend mentality. To keep things in perspective, no previous administration has ever spent as much, including more on pork-barrel spending, then the Bush admin and McCain???s proposals were literally expected to cost more than what Obama has proposed. And relating to the Republican basic principals, there really can???t be many left who don???t understand that we really do desperately need some government regulation, enforcement and control (interference) and some necessary government spending to avoid total deterioration of infrastructure and on programs aimed at progress (energy independence, Global Warming, jobs retention and development, education,,,) demanding a government of a size at least adequate to accomplish all of that.
(continued below:)
(continued from above:)
Where there might be some debate is on government sponsored programs to benefit the poor, where some may consider that to be give-away aid just making people dependent; well some programs are necessary there also and should be aimed at bringing people up and into the productive community, which has then literally proven to benefit the total economy. The last item was Tax Cuts and they are fine as long as they are effective and responsible and not, as we have recently seen, just aimed at the wealthy with the rationalization that benefits simply will ???trickle down???. The ???trickle down??? theory is a fraud as giving more money to those who already spend all they want on whatever they want, actually has little benefit to the economy, just makes the wealthy wealthier and likely just stimulates campaign contributions. We actually have more of a ???bubble up??? economy were when more money is given to the poor and middle-class it gets spent on needs like a new refrigerator, paying the bills, fixing the car, going out to dinner,,, and gets right back into the economy creating growth, profits for businesses and even benefits for the wealthy. The common sense of it all tells us that what we really need is a fiscally responsible (balanced budget), honest and conscientious, more moderate government focused on benefiting all of the people. Neither extreme is the answer and those who try to rationalize the value of either extreme should be seen as trying to manipulate public opinion for their own purposes. An effective more centrist government is what the voters should logically demand and totally reject any biased subterfuge aimed at selling something different that only benefits a few.
What's Obama needs to Help out are those poor American Famiilies like working as Janitor,Single mum with few kids, daily low-wage workers who wakes up 5 am ieveryday n morning for work and some did 2/3 Job juggling just to survive end meet. They dont ask Government for Sitmulus Package help..They're asking Government to consider their plight to survive. like government asistance, like high subsidies Child's Care, low school fees,Government asistance on Job retraining for them to achieve higher skill.
A confuscius said,"When someone are poverty asking for help, its best you give him a fishing rod and teachs him how to fish then you provides them the Fish itself".
Confucius said it well indeed. Those that you describe however already work and help themselve as best they can. They already know how to fish, so to speak. The stimulus will go to help exactly those people you describe. When the last stimulous package was enacted and the checks recieved, I didn't hear anyone including myself say it was wasteful spending. 60% of the American people place the stimulous package for the lower and middle classas their top priority. I think they're right and I'll try to use mine wisely. Bush should promote this package asap because certainly there's a better chance of this money going toward Christmas spending if it gets out in the next 3 months. .
It's a defining difference between Democrats and Republicans. Almost every Republican has condemned the idea. Why? It's because they have little regard for labor. If this was a bailout of Haliburton or some other defense contractor , the checks would be in the mail.
The GOP didn't lose because they lost their way. They lost because we, for the first time since Bill Clinton, had a candidate that could fend off an attack and return fire tenfold! Gore and Kerry didn't do that and were victims. When the McCain campaign of hate released their feeble attacks of lies and distortion, President Obama countered with his own version of campaign carpet bombing. The Republican, not suprisingly, couldn't cope with it. President used a weapon that was unfamilar to the GOP party of hate. The truth. It almost seemed unfair at times.
When McCain said he had Obama right where he wanted him, it was like Sony liston looking up at ALI and telling him to watch his step!
Globalization and war are two sides of the same coin. Throughout many parts of the world, including Central America, there has been little ???hidden??? about the links between corporate interests, globalization, and militarization. Under the guise of the war on drugs, the war on terror, Plan Colombia, and lesser-known programs like the ???humanitarian??? NewHorizons, U.S. military forces are backing U.S. corporate and geopolitical interests from Iraq to Colombia, from Honduras to the Philippines. We can see it in the war on Iraq and how USAID awarded ???reconstruction??? contracts to corporate backers of the Bush Administration and we see it in plans for a U.S. free trade agreement with the Middle East by 2013, based on a network of bilateral FTAs with individual Middle Eastern governments. We can also see it in the Mexican government???s continued war against Indigenous Peoples in resource-rich areas like the Lacandon jungle, home to the Zapatista Army of National Liberation and their supporters. We can see it in the renewed U.S. military presence in South East Asia, especially in their joint exercises with the Philippine military. Their mission is to make the world safe for capitalism and the U.S. empire and to crush communities and economies organized around different values and principles.
Meanwhile, the US has "rewarded" its allies in the "war on terror" (e.g. Australia and Thailand) by negotiating FTAs with them. And it has demanded that the governments of Gulf countries scrap their boycotts of Israeli goods as part of FTA negotiations.
Besides the obvious ways in which US geopolitical concerns are embedded in Washington???s pursuit of bilateral trade and investment deals, other countries are also pursuing bilateral free trade and investment agreements to further geopolitical goals. Increasingly, we can see access to energy resources (eg. oil, gas, uranium and water) as a factor in determining the priorities of signing bilateral FTAs for countries such as China and Japan.
Dont Blame others ,This the Price America has to Pay dearly when adopted Neo -policy . The End Average Americans cannot compete and have to Suffers deeply.
OBAMA'S FIRST MOVE,CLOSING GITMO, SHOW'S WEAKNESS,THE ARABS WILL EAT HIM ALIVE WHEN THEY SMELL "YELLOW" COMING OFF OF HIM! JIMMY CATER IN BLACK FACE WE DON'T NEED!
Go FatJoey! Okay, here's a cracker. Can you do another trick FatJoey?
Maybe next time you sit around and finaly share your wisdom, you should get a little help from Rush or one of those baffoons. That was kind of weak FatJoey. I think they could help you formulate something beyond the mentality of a 1st grade scared little girl.
Not defending anyone but I just have to ask you. Did you ever serve in the military? Have you ever been outside the United States in the last 5 years? Once again I am not defending anyone on this page. I just want to know.
My grandfather, father and brother all served. I chose not to, yet respect those that do. I have been outside the US many times in the last 5 years. My brother-in-law is still an active Colonel. Not sure what any of that has to do with being strong and smart. I have an advanced degree (wooptie) and find that talking to yoru enemies is the wisest thing one can do, it is imperative. At the same time if you attack me you are in for a world of hurt. i will defend myself and my country. I just won't defend a mentality that has no promise for results and fights the fire while it feeds the flames.
Sorry, I am smart and strong, and it is not black and white. I value intelligent people who work smart, and take out their defense skills when needed.
Sounds like you only value yourself. Let me tell you why you don't negotiate with terrorist countries. First of all they don't care for you. They want to see you die. I know cause I was there. Second, if you give them just a little they will exploit it and then our whole economy is comprimised. The best way to stay on top is not to negotiate. It is to call the shots.
Having been there does not really make you any more intellegent. In the weeds you will see weeds. While I value our country's service folk. There are some who went into service because they could not get a job, or many barely squeeked out of high school.
So, because yu were in the service, or even on the ground it does not say anything for how you process that information, and definetly does not mean that your opinion about foriegn policy is even close. Bush took your advice and he failed spectacularly. Finally when he was pressured he canned Rumsfeld and started a dialect which was primarily driven by the Public and Condi Rice.
Because McCain was a prisoner of war, it does not give him great foreign policy credentials. Though I respected him immensly on his torture stance until Bush leveraged him through pulling the base on him and McCain changed his tune.
I love McCain, but am really disappointed he sold out to the base.
So again, why is Bush negotiating with N Korea? Why is he talking to a murderer, a communist, and a terrorist? Can you tell me, you lost me with your "call the shots".
I guess that means you must admire George Bush and Dick Cheney because they opened Gitmo.
Was it their military records that impressed you? Dick Cheney used a phony reason to escape the draft ala ole rushbo and where was Georgie? Oh yeah, he was hiding under his mothers skirt. He didn't even bother to show up for state side duty. his dad schemed up for him. Some courage. I think that's why they hated McCain. He reminded them of something they would sooner forget.
What were we suppose to do with Prisoners of war. I mean, what would you do with a prisoner of war. I want your expert opinion.
We don't have any POWs. We have detainees. At least that's what Bush says.
That is the question of the year! How many are innocent? We know that many were innocent and tortured and killed. Many aren't innocent. The question is, how do you deal with that mess we are in. We created a monster, and it is the likes of the worst in American history.
Don't have an answer, wish I did. There is no good answer. Need to stop the bleeeding, and do the best with in a tragic situaion, which will end up being something that haunts us for decades.
What I can't believe is this guy jumps into a helicopter and fly's over Iraq and that given him foreign policy experience? The biggest joke in this entire stage show is the American people, because they opt for a person based on looks and revenge rather then someone who can get the job done. The American voters opt for what the media fed them for months and they choice a boy over a man. I love this country but it just kills me the listen to the media for advice instead of our hearts and souls. So my thoughts about the president-elect, he will always be a senator to me and nothing more... because he cheated to get where he is, he had the entire media of a nation behind him at his door step and that ain't winning to me that's plain down being a puppet to me. For his soul, for his personality, everything about him I hope the chickens come home to roost like they did once before.......

Who's the End LOSER and SUFFERS here? The AMERICANS AT LARGE
This the Price of Neo Policy.
You don't love this country, you are brainwashed, and are really a relic. Funny how you talk down to other people of faith as if you are so wise, as if they just blindly voted to ruin this country.
You are not a partiot, don't care if you wear a flag pin or have a flag bumber sticker on your car. Your mentality is the exact reason why this country has so diminished in the world. So we didn't just vote for a man, we voted you and your mentality back to the depths of Hades, back where it was spawned as a distraction from the real world and it's challenges.
What is real is that your candidate was the weakest ever to run. He thought of a clever way to rig the election and it work, I will give him credit for that. But honor and respect he will never get from me because he doesn't deserve it...You dont know the half of it as to what I have done for this country. So if I was you I would keep my mouth shut be worthy of my freedoms to do whatever you are doing. Barry is dirty always has been and always will be and he will be a puppet president for sure. I got more respect for McCain losing then Barry winning any day of the week, at least he lost with honor. So do me a favor, go back to that (home on wheels) park where you were probable born and find a soul.....
How can you say you love this country and then wish her president to fail? That is as UnAmerican as you can get! The President of this great nation deserves our support and respect! Don't say he hasn't earned it yet..he earned it when he won the electoral college, more states, and the popular vote! Any way you look at it --he won! Get over yourself and get on board with America!
They say whatever they want, no matter how ludicrous. Good thing we voted them down the toilet!!!
It cracks me up when people like yourself get their A$$ handed to them and they are still to ignorant to know it. You are truly a baffoon adn extremely laughable!
Say somore more! Polly wanna cracker??? Say some more???
Bush was a tragedy and yu are a thing of the past.... BYe BYe!!!
Dear Newsweek please stop making excuses for a man who hasn't screwed up yet. If you start covering for him now it's going to be a long four years. When history remembers George Bush thay will remember a man who freed Iraq, and Afganistan as well as disarmed Lybia and North Korea. Ronald reagan is remembered as the man who collapsed the Soviet Union. Bill Clinton is the man who cheated on his wife. Jimmy Carter built houses for the poor and history will remember Obama as the man who got elected for being black, thanks to a uneducated sheepish population and a faciost liberal media.
I had GWB's back on Afganistan until he fukd up and didn't finish the job. There is just som much unfinished business that guy left and what a mess we have. What a tragidy of a persident. When he finally found the balls to stand up to Cheny it was 6 years too late. After all of that he finally sees why we should take diplomacy seriously. Took Rice to help him along with that one. Unfortunatly he alienated everybody else that mattered. He even fukd up the Justice department.
MAn brydges, you must be so proud living on your island of misfit Bush supporters
Blame NATO, not Bush.
Ya, Bush was great for the country, except not this country that we call the USA. What a disaster!
"When history remembers George Bush thay will remember a man who freed Iraq, and Afganistan as well as disarmed Lybia and North Korea."
1. The British disarmed Lybia. North Korea is not disarmed.
2. Bush will be remembered as a dumbass.
A criminal dumbass
Wow, you must really be hurting after this election. You are one of the dumbasses leftovers that didn't get the memo. George W Bush is one of the biggest failures in World history, on historic proportunes, and you are a fool of collassal proportioons!
George Bush will be rembered for cooking up phony evidence to fool the world into supporting the invasion of Iraq. He will be remembered for sending more than 4000 of our best and bravest young women and men to their deaths in that war. He will be rembered being distracted by that phony war and allowing a terrorist attack that killed more than 3000 more on 9/11 that might have been avoided if he followed up on the warnings he recieved. He will be remembered for allowing Bin Laden to remain free as a bird for 7 years and counting.
While I'm on the subject of Bin Laden, do you think McCain will pass along his location that he bragged openly about knowing?
Comment: This just in: GOP does not own GOD!
Many who voted for Obama prayed he would win, including myself. I guess the GOP does not own God afterall!
Palin prays and God says 'no'! So who exactly is she praying to???
All of the GOP supporters that came forward and said, 'we lost fair and square', I applaud, and respect their integrity. All of you others that are trashing the new president with lies and fear smears, well, you suck and deserve to be losers.
It was a hard fought campain from all sides and it just blows me away how small minded some are. t is sad, but true that we live in a divided country and many want to keep it that way.
I love basking in the GOP's loss. They have been so oot of touch, and the Bush supporters are just lost in the pile of dung they created for themselves. It is funny how they still hang on to that turd. They are as bad losers as they are winners.
They never deal with issues, they can't. They use lies and distortion like little children. That is what they have been taught, that is how many of the hypocrates operate.
They get smashed at thier own game on the playing field on the world stage. Instead of being constructive they attack with Drudge level comments that remind us of what we teach our children not to do. Very immature, very out of touch and very much a thing of the past.
By the way, Mr. 40 - how many drinks, or pills did you have tonight! Interesting you know anything about "orange sunshine". Never heard of it. Please explain.
No dependancies. Sorry to disappoint you. Were you just projecting?
Again, you are only here to call posters names. The Report Abuse list is piling up.
Hey there "40year" - really don't know who you are talking go - should be "little snot-nosed, rich little bitch" who calls herself "skeetchamp". Have you ever "shot skeet"?
I see you are only the blogs to call other posters names. I just reported you for this and I replied all of your offensive comments to me on the other article. Yes, everyone can see that you are a mental health specialist.
After all the screaming about Bush's foreign policy, now Newsweek says "relax", there's actually nothing to do????? lol. Hindsight bias. No surprise.
Obama has a huge mandate from the American people to do everything he promised to do. He's no Tricky Dick Nixon with a "Secret Plan". His initiatives have been in bold print on his website for at least two years now. Republicans -- and Hillary -- have ridiculed Obama and his plans for two years, YET we elected him in a landslide. Anything less and in four years Republicans will claim he was all talk and no action.
awaway. Much of it I did
This article completely misses one of the most critical issues tied to the economy: CHINA. This country has stolen billions of dollars worth of technology through corporate espionage and counterfeiting goods. The seem unable or unwilling to deal with the problem as long as it benefits their economy. Furthermore they're continuation of a devalued currency is still hitting our trade deficit hard. We're also seeing dangerous and toxic items coming out of China ending up in our food supply and children's room. Now we learn the Chinese may have been hiring hackers to attack the white house and Obama/McCain's campaigns. All the while the Chinese side is completely protectionist; it's incredible difficult for foreign companies to operate with sales in China. Something's got to give, I suspect Obama will need to seriously review our current trade policies with China. Free trade is largely a good thing but in this case something needs to be done and fast.
We should use the WW2 POW policy for the Japanese on the current detainees. We didn't take any!
Sure we did.
And plenty of German's as well.
It would be a grave mistake to executel POWs. We used Japanese POWS to rebuild bridges and other forced labor to help us. I'm sure i don't have to remind you if POWs were killed, Senator McCain would not be here today. i once worked with a man who was a Japanese POW. He went throug hell but was still alive to talk about it. I doubt you'd be so heartless to kill a POW.
The USA has never had a policy like that.
I detect confusion on the portion of NEWSWEAKS latest Obama scribbler. He forgets that the ''long ''months''required in order to build Iranian rapproachment will allow Medvedev, and Putin,to further cement ties to Tehran [as they have already accomplished],that will not require a standdown on the Russian deployment of SS-26 missles within the range of these American anti-missle platforms in Poland. Barry is unable to discern how ''American training'' of Pakistani officers and men in their army will not eventually,as with the Muhadjideen, turn out more effective jihadists. [The Pak Army is rife with pro-al Qaeda factions]. Using US troops as a ''last ditch'' source of protection conjures up Bataan,Khartoum,Roarkes Drift, and Saigon does it not?
Africa is again ignored. Rwanda is now in the Congo fray, where tens of thousands are dying again, and China moves forward with its partnership with the government in Sudan. Obviously,Columbia,in both GOP and Democrat administrations, was never left to the devices of South Americas regional powers alone. Nor will Venezeula if or when it acts in a unstable or reckless manner aimed at its neighbors,or seeks greater ties with Russia, whom Chavez allowed to port at his country only last month with naval ships bearing nuclear weapons.
''Relax''........?
