i like the way the democrats are already getting ready for the downfall of all they have been pumping up the public to expect from their messiah. of course, newsweek, with its stock at or near junk bond status like the mother ship the new york times, it needs to not lose anymore subscriptions and adversitsing dollars because of its careless abdication of duty. newsweek is the king of the hill in reverse. being the weakest of the left's trinity - new york times, time and newsweek, it will be the easiest to fall and go without being missed

High expectations? LOL Lets get over ourselves already, will we? I actually can't wait to see everyones "hopes" get let down. Then maybe they'll start realizing that watching the crap that fox/newscorp is shoveling is all lies and BS. Theres a reason the independants don't get put in the spotlight. Its because theres always one that actually knows what the problems are and how to solve them but since that would require exposing hundreds of thousands of liars and thieves, then that means that they need to be silenced and so there for everyone is only exposed to the two candidates that want to take on the task of being a puppet for the next 4-8 years. When the American public starts thinking for itself and stops denying the writing on the wall then they won't be as let down when the very people who are to protect us just leave us out in the cold again.

By the way, Newsweek, is it really neccessary to shovel us politics in every category? This is health for christs sake, give it a rest.

Errata:James Leach for ''William'' the remainder as read.

Just so. Already, diminishment in the rise of the Expected One,is becoming a factor in several areas. Minorities are loudly demanding that Obama fill his cabinet with more black and latino rather than Old White Guys, which is becoming a solid Obamaite staple in the new WH,as even more former Clintonistas are being brought on board.[www.politico.com for more on this trend].
Israelis [the Middle East Peace Question] are scratching their heads on Obamas senior middle east advisory pick,Robert Malley, who Obama downplayed in the campaign period to settle Jewish nerves in battleground states, then immediately reneged on his promise that Malley would not serve in any capacity upon naming him yesterday to become chief Middle East adviser. [Malley, already having problems as being a stooge of HAMAS and the then-Arafat PLO. So much so that Malley even brought the wrath of his boss Bill Clinton down on him].
Todays leftwinged MOTHER JONES and liberal writer David Corn are asking themselves why, when bringing on anti-GLASS-STEAGALL Bob Rubin was bad enough,Obama decided to add to his economic team William Leach,a moderate GOPer who was a portion of the ''Republicans For Obama'' movement during the campaign. You will also find Leachs name here.

The GRAMM -LEACH-BILLEY Act of 1999.[The repeal of GLASS-STEAGALL]. Obamaites now get to explain the irony of actually having one of these guys serving in an Obama administration capacity.

Obama immediately reneged on another campaign promise.[he's moving fast,I will give him this]. That the 700 billion would be more directly aimed at the American people suffering from the threat of foreclosure. If you look to the immediate right of this post, you will find a news box that NEWSWEAK devotes to the Washington Post. In its first story link it says:

''Credit Card,Loan Firms,Eyed For Bailout Program''.

So. Add to Detroit, banks, more banks, and the banks that wish to buy these banks,[as admitted today by Rep. Barney Frank [D-Mass] and these others, let alone the pork, what has our ''700 billion''purchased that is even remotely similar to what Obama promised?

I think that "we" have a clear understanding of what "we" expect to happen. "We" know there is no magic wand to wave and healing this country will take time, the greatest journey starts with just one step, and "we" have taken that step, side by side, hand in hand, together. That scares the reigs, they thrive on division and fear, but "we" are no longer afraid (I never was), we are now a nation led by HOPE for our country and Faith in our President (elect), imagine that, a President you can have faith in...You know what I noticed about him in his first press conference....HE COULD SPEAK...intelligently, coherently, and to a point...FINALLY an intelligent President, what a breath of fresh air...If that is all the change we get...lol...I'd be happy becuase it will lead to geat things for all of us and the world,..for a CHANGE.

  • Posted By: HarleyisHere @ 11/11/2008 2:08:50 PM

For a being calling their self "sunshine" you sure are full of gloom and doom and a sh!t load of FOX Limbaugh TALKING POINTS, So, relax, stop being so desperately fearful, and either put your head back in the FOXNEWS sand or pull it out and join an optimistic population who believes in the "reality" of what has happened ;)
Blacks only make of 12% of our entire population...and not ALL of them can vote DUH!, too young, or felony records whatever...so what then is your point...lol, Obama won by 7.5million votes and over 2 to 1 in electoral votes...let go your fear, try to breathe, it will take about 2 yrs for you to deprogram ;) then you'll be ok.

As for that f@#king MORON Palin, there you're a complete tool also, check out Joe Vogler and the AIP (alaskan al qaeda), very interesting stuff in the "closet" of Sarah beside the 400K she bought at NM.
She is an idiot, and an affront to ALL women rights and everything women have accomplished to prove that you can be more than just a piece of a$$, which Palin is NOT, from the neck up, she is a wreck, relying only on her looks and a LOUD mouth, some reading and speaking skills and a FAKE pair of glasses.

Palin was a member of a domestic terrorist group called the AIP before she became mayor, a non-partisan position (she had to quit the group, but not in her heart), she also had a laying on of hands by a WITCH HUNTER (self proclaimed) and believes in speaking in tongues (?) so don't act like she is above anything, she is the old school bush like republican, she even says NUCULAR, she has NO future, unless she has herself appointed to congress by default, even then she'll be voted out ASAP.

    and THAT IS A FACT!!!

Call President Obama (elect) all the names you like but as of Jan 20th 2009, you'll call him President....you lil-b!tch ;)

      • Posted By: HarleyisHere @ 11/11/2008 5:00:24 PM

Awe we have an Orallyite here...asks if I'm a "Pin Head" well to answer in terns you can understand, NO! I am a PATRIOT! it is you "my friend" who is the pin head ;) And FYI: Why would I be mad...lol my guy won, I am just pointing out your gloom and doom outlook and some FACTS about Sarah "the hooker mom" Palin. hey keep up the good hate though it only makes us stronger, and exposes you for the FEARFUL SHEEP you are.

        • Posted By: arabeguiled @ 11/13/2008 5:45:04 AM

one comment, you can't be a patriot and a supporter of obama. secondly, the reason you should be mad even though your man won is beause he will be roasted on the same spick you guys used to roast george bush. he will get the same fair and warm hearted reception you gave when our man was in office. so yes, you have reason to be mad.

Comment: It is bizarre to me to see how Obama brainwashed so many people. Stop hitting on Sarah, at least she doesn???t have the radical back ground that idiot Obama has. I would not allow him or his radical family in my home. HE IS A LIAR, and people like yourself, who seem to have limited education, can be brainwashed easily. The media, like CBS, ABC, NBC ??? all ganged up on McCain and Palin. Had the Media not done that and if Obama had not accepted all that money from who knows where (middle eastern???), and had the homeless not voted for him, thanks to Acorn and if Acron had not gotten all those fake voters???. Oh, one more??? if the % of blacks (99.9%) who voted for him because ???he???s a black man??? ??? ODUMA WOULD HAVE LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

      Sunshine: So you're saying:
IF the Media not brainwashed everyone, and
IF Obama had not accepted all that money from the middle east, and
IF the homeless not voted for him, and
IF Acorn had not gotten all those fake voters, and
IF all the blacks had not voted for him
      Obama would have lost.

It is unrealistic, just take a look at the global problems, from Iran, and all the dictators from North Korea to China, to Israel. America now ends up with an untested inexperience Commander-in-Chief.

    1) People are wired to believe they can achieve in life or not. Those who believe they can create and recreate at-will will experience little letdown after such an election high as they are wired always to create. They are oftentimes realists and know when something fails or succeeds you keep on creating. On the other hand, those who do not believe they can create at-will will experience the low. Oftentimes their upbringing has reinforced the principle that they are powerless to produce anything that will be of importance in the world, so they are trained to lose hope and succumb to helplessness. They don???t know you simply keep creating. What unites people of both mindsets is charismatic leadership, clear and principled, that parents us all into the new vision. 2) The scientific approach to predicting cognitive behavior with a study of how people relate associatively more positively to chocolate than chips/salt are missing the salt/sugar marriage. When I have too much salt, I crave sugar to balance me out and vice versa. So their results may have had more to do with the salt/sugar balance in the body already present at the time of the experiment. 3) Visioning for the future is not new but it has been overlooked for its powerful therapeutic or life-changing effects. Let's face it, we become more comfortable with change when we can see what the new aspects of life will look like and have some semblance of how we will fit into that scenario. 4) The only application I can find for this kind of study is for scientist to provide marketing data to those who would manipulate us, which could include the government, commerce, and quite possibly our well-meaning parents.

"You must surely be B!" What does that mean?!?! Is it a bad thing to be "B"?

Just deal with it sweetie...YOUR PRESIDENT is a black man.....hahahahahahahahahaha. So funny you have a hard time dealing with that? Oh my God what if this means the USA is going to have greater expectations for all races and ethnic groups?? Or even worse, what if you'll actually have a BLACK NEIGHBOR now. Oh my!!

It's amazing how many Americans fail to understand how our government truly works. I sit in awe of how many people think one man "the President" can influence and change the direction of the country over night. The truth is its not going to happen! Congress has has the truest form of power when it comes to the government. Congress has the Power of Purse having to decide where the tax money goes and what foreign policy is worth pursuing. If you follow politics you can actually feel the mood of the country change when the power between the Republicans and Democrats change. Nope! There will be no change just high expectations because when you break it down to the facts...A politician is a politician....When you elect them back into office their only job afterwards is to make promises to make sure they get re-elected.

  • Posted By: amituttam82 @ 11/10/2008 9:27:28 PM

It's odd but I have had the opposite problem. I really wanted him to be president while he was a long shot but as it became clear that he would pull ahead and win against Sen. McCain, I got more and more apprehensive. I found myself switching channels in order to avoid watching him because I knew that all that empty rehetroic that he uses would make me like him less. I felt good on election day, really good, but the whole time I kept thinking, "Wow! He Won! Oh ***, there is now way he can fix all these complicated problems, people are going to hate him so much for getting their expectations up" I totally understand why he did it and I actually respect him for taking the chance of getting ridiculed off the stage to try and use the empty words. But, I always knew that winning this election will be his greatest triumph and that is so profoundly sad! He deserves better, he deserves to be remembered as the greatest president since FDR or Lincoln. But he won't be. I think that his approval ratings will go lower than 30% within the first six months and he doesn't deserve what history will remember him for. An inspiring figure that brought up such great expectations from people but who ultimately failed miserably to change anything. He just doesn't deserve it because he would actually be a lot more qualified than FDR or Regan or even Lincoln and has a better heart than any of the three. Life is just a frickin long greek tragedy.

This was such an historic election that Congress should consider passing legislation to make Jan. 20th a NATIONAL HOLIDAY! After all, Jan. 19th is MLK day and they would tie in perfectly. ALL AMERICA CAN CELEBRATE OBAMA's RULE during this four day HOLIDAY. We'll be on an emotional high for four years.

"marley07" and "Ivory88": This article is about emotional forecasting. There's nothing in it that seeks to make excuses for anyone. Perhaps you're just doing a little emotional forecasting?

    • Posted By: marley07 @ 11/10/2008 10:39:17 PM

I don't think it is emotional forcasting, i think it is common sense. All these things he promised from health care to energy independence,to the economy cannot be done in 1 term if even 2 and that goes for anybody who would become president. I think the point is that everyone who supported him felt that when he won everything would be all better the next day, or being more realistic as soon as he takes office. This economy is not going to be able to be fixed anytime soon no matter what you throw at it, healthcare has been jerked around for decades, so doubtful it will change in a few years to where it works smoothly and energy independence? That will take decades if not 1/2 a century.

  • Posted By: notsoquietmajority @ 11/10/2008 3:32:12 PM

    Hey Newsweek,

Great job of mis-informing your readers for the last 22 months. Not once did you mention any of the above BEFORE Obama was elected as president. Exactly what is the difference between what John McCain has been saying all along and what you are NOW stating Obama will and will not be able to do? Not one hint of questioning how Obama will fulfill a single promise while campaigning until now. I expect nothing less then President Obama to achieve his obligated promises he has made while campaigning. Anything less, will be a total and complete failure on his promises.

CHANGE MY AZZ.......NOTHING BUT MORE OF THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: Ivory88 @ 11/10/2008 3:02:37 PM

Seems all the news media are already offering up excuses and trying to lower expectations for President Obama. He made promises....and he should be held to them. That's why people voted for him. If he can't deliver as promised then he should be voted out next time around. And people should hold him to his promises, period.

    • Posted By: tmitch10 @ 11/12/2008 4:16:05 PM

And Bush's PROMISE of (So-Called) Compassionate Conservatism?

      Ended up being Neo-Con ideology!

I know I will be dissapointed by some parts of Obama's presidency, but he will FAR exceed the standards of the last 8 years.

One last note. Why don't we give the guy a chance to screw something up before bashing OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!

  • Posted By: Ivory88 @ 11/10/2008 3:01:02 PM

Seems the major media are already offering excuses for president - elect Obama. Instead of holding him to his campaign promises. Why?

    • Posted By: marley07 @ 11/10/2008 3:03:05 PM

because they will do anything they can to make him look good. They know they need to ease people's expectations becuase he has over-promised and will under-deliver.

      • Posted By: notsoquietmajority @ 11/10/2008 3:33:15 PM

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves, at will, money from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority votes for candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, usually followed by a dictatorship. The average ago of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through certain definite sequences. From courage by revolution to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency, from complancency to apathy, and back to dependency." Ben Franklin

I'm not so sure we're the only animals that look forward to the future. We should all be hopeful that Obama will change things for the better and have the patience to allow this fine man to get situated so that he can work on the change we all need.

Wait just a second there buddy. I dont remember a single time Obama has stated he hopes to change the course this country is heading. Does anyone else remember Obama hoping to change anything?

I believe he said he will, and spoke as if it was a certainty. McCain has apparently missed the bus on the lie lie lie train. He went with the str8 talk express. Now Obama will have to give it to you str8 now that he has been elected. Bet it sounds alot like what McCain has been saying all along.

Why no ranting of more of the same? Thats exactly what you will get. Pay attention.

He is not/does not waste a an hour or minute. What you are about to witness is even more historical than the fact that he got elected. I realize a great deal of what Obama proposes may not come to fruition, or will become so watered-down and compromised it'll almost be unrecognizable. But right now, that's of secondary importance. What's important to me, right now, in the interim, is that there's finally hope. We've finally taken a step in the right direction, and away from where we've been stuck for the last 8 years.

    Wray Herbert :

I celebrate your article and thank you for it. All sciences should contribute, so that we can understand the past, present and future possibilities.

MSNBC did an analysis. If you suppress all Black Votes then Obama loses. That does not happen with Youth or with Latinos. However most of the Obama Votes were White votes.

But racism still exists and the Racist States and Counties are easily detected examining the election data.
Examine all those States and Towns where Obama lost by a bigger margin than Kerry in 2004.

I think that we have to study very hard to understand what happened and to examine the statistical "what if" possibilities. There is racial progress, and many Whites that were very racist in the past have changed their behaviour, and voted for Obama in big numbers, making his victory possible.

Self Interest defeated Racism. Economic Salvation in times of crisis defeated Racism. Of course !!!

I am trying to understand the evolution of Racism and of positive feelings about other Races and Ethnics.
And I am also studying the behaviour of Youth in this election. And the future possibilities, State by State.

the biggest problem with obama winning is that for every promise he doesn't deliver on will only make the case for kkk recruiters.this is a group that was at least marginalized to this point with as few as 30k members but , every failed promise and every questionable decision he makes will bring back a rise in the group's numbers . america is not ready to get passed it's racial bias ...imho...

My hopes are that we survive and recover from what's been done to us over the last 8 years, and that this administration will continue to give open-minded people reasons to continue evolution away from the hate and racism that are still so rampant. Oh, and one more thing: that a pragmatic centrist administration will free more moderates from the hysteria and demands for more power of the right wing.

It is the citizens not just of the US but of the world's job to do their part to make this work. Obama has a great vision for our country, and we all have to take ownership in our role in this world. I urge everyone to think of ways that they could make a difference. Help a neighbor, walk to work, recycle, be a good role model and most importantly never forget that EVERYONE in one way or other leaves a lasting impression on this world-make it a good one.

Isn't the point of living in the U.S. to be able to choose your own path within the rules of human law?

      • Posted By: notsoquietmajority @ 11/10/2008 3:48:25 PM

Yes but the Dems would like to change the laws to where if you choose your own path, you will be breaking the laws. Why do you really think Obama reads books titled The post America?

That is what is sad about what is coming. I have always enjoyed being able to wake up each morning and make decisions for myself and be held accountable for my own actions. Boy is tha going to change.

Or how do you expect a president to perform boasting a congress with a 9% approval rating. All in the last 2 yrs. Do the math liar.
