iT HAS BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN, THE GOVERNMENT AND THE PROSECUTING FORCE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO OBEY THE RULES, TELL THE TRUTH, OR PAY THE CONSEQUENCES FOR THEIR ACTIONS. IT IS NO WONDER AMERICANS DO NOT TRUST THE ONES WE PUT IN OFFICE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR US. OUR GOVERNMENT IS A JOKE.

He's shamed his image and family, his career is over, he destroyed himself. I'd rather see taxpayers money to investigate the larger picture. The Bush administration.

Who are you kidding! The whole thing was a political set-up, He was (prior to the arrest) trying to call
attention to the corruption of loose financial regulations (hence the mess we're in right now. Unfortunate
timing--he might have been able to save us a lot of sorrow if he could have been heard. Make up your mind,
pay-for-sex or rape (we apparently chose the latter).

    What is this a politician?
Born of graft and stolen riches,
from we men who dig the ditches,
So we call them Sons of (expletive deleted)!
Life is hard, so we can laugh,
cause we know their taken graft,
they the lift and we the shaft,
they're over paid and over staffed!
While we get less and they get more,
they sell themselves like a whore,
to those grafters at the door,
    those bloodsuckers of the poor!
Those the likes of Mother Bell,
she has a direct connect to Satan's Hell,
and there are those Oil Barons,
those Gaslight Kings who keep us barren,
with the kings of the electric lights who conspire our lives!
While Nancy feeds the Salmon fleets,
my poor sister's roof still leaks,
    Katrina's victims go without,
so corruption is the power in that house,
    Nancy is their reigning Queen,
so this waht politics is all about,
    corruption in our Nation's House!
Let us not forget our Bush,
President and leader of all those crooks,
that Oil Baron and his Texas Queen,
    Now see those gas pumps,
    those prices gone wild,
    our gas tanks empty,
    lost our cars,
    lost our jobs,
now our families they will starve,
owns our banks and owns our jobs,
    now the Bushes and their
    Saudi cousins wear big smiles,
while Ole Bush gave us the shaft,
then he gave the Arabs all our cash,
support my Arabs, support my ass,
kepp giving the Arabs all that cash,
now our congress support his ass,
and gives those Arabs all that cash!
    "SHAFT THE PUBLIC,
    ROB THE POOR,
SUCK THEIR BLOOD, AND STEAL SOMEMORE!"

I feel that Spitzer should be crimminally charged for his actions. Stings are set up by local police, using female officers to solicit potential johns, and are prosocuted villigently. Acknoledgement of these other persons did not sway the judicial system in N.Y. to look the other way. This is a clear example of double standards in our judicial system. This ruling should be overturned.

This country is morally bankrupt. No one is proscecuted for any thing. Bill Clinton is the founding father of setting the bar so low. Can't help but wonder whether Obama will keep his in his pants. But seriously doubt it. What a time to be an American - who would have thought we would see two Depressions in less than 100 years. Car loans, student loans, mortgages all given to folks who couldn't press two nickles together. No common sense; just spend, spend, spend and Spritzer's spending was on hookers and no prosecution. Hells bells, even that Mayor Berry in Washington DC caught on tape was prosecuted. Let's call the race card. Ooops can't do that anymore. The White House is now The Black House. God Bless America!

Mandatory castration for men found guilty. I'm pretty sure that's what Mrs. Spitzer would find fair.

Excellent article!! Couldn't agree more. It's about time someone said it as it is. Here in Phoenix they busted a big prostitute ring (not the first but the biggest, apparently) and the police have a list of johns it'll takes "weeks" to go through. I suspect that list will remain secret, as they usually do. Obviously, something has gone horribly wrong in a woman/girl's life to turn to prostitution. It sickens me that so few people see that and that they let the johns get away with this. I never believed prostitution was a victimless crime for the very reasons stated here. Good for Sweden to do the right thing! The U.S. should follow suit. Crack down on the scumbag pimps big time is essential, too.

What happened to ???No man is above the law, and no man is below it???? Mark my words: moral bankruptcy precedes financial bankruptcy and the ruin of America. It???s time for change, not just in demanding competent leadership, but in demanding justice. Once again, the Bush administration and its appointees flaunt the law and further weaken democracy in favor of an aristocracy where the crimes of the rich go unpunished. I say on January 20th, when Mr. Bush and Mr. Garcia are divested of their offices, we the people show them the power of the American legal system.

Elliott Spitzer needs to go to jail. I worked as a county jail nurse and when someone was caught
doing what Spitzer was doing with prostitutes they were arrested. What makes him any different?

Prostitutes aren't blameless victims, these women need to exercise some judgment and start making better choices for themselves. They know they're breaking the law. Just because someone has been abused as a child doesn't mean they are absolved from the responsibility to make reasonable (law abiding) choices in their lives. The millions of econoimically-challenged and disadvantaged women out there who wisely choose not to turn to prostitution are ample evidence that there are alternatives....that don't include a criminal way of life. This is the same defense that nazi war criminals took after WWII - "I had do it, I had no choice." Start taking responsibility for your actions.

This is a disgusting miscarriage of justice - a violation of the laws of the State of New York and a violation of the Mann Act which is a federal law. Spitzer has NOT "paid for his sin" - it has only become public knowledge. He got caught so he "admitted" it. Not a big deal for him.....

Thank you Newsweek for publishing this quality article. Prostitution is not a victimless crime. Failing to hold Elliot Spitzer accountable for his criminal activity perpetuates a cycle that culminates in escalating horrific abuse against women and children. A wealthy and powerful man is being protected while the rights of the most vulnerable members of our society are ignored.

    • Posted By: david001 @ 11/12/2008 7:09:38 PM

Oh please ... this is someone's biased opinion and not some "quality article". The dark side of prostitution exists solely because it is deemed immoral and illegal. If it was not illegal, these "victims" would have the law on their side to avoid any abuse. But as it stands, "moral" people like you would rather impose their "morals" on others than actually care to protect those who choose to do what is a natural act. The bible made it bad, not mother nature.

Missy, Norma, You're surprised by this ?! How is it that the only point never acknowledged in your rant got by you; Spitzer is a Dem - 'nough said.

With all the quoting of President-elect Obama, let's just hope that unlike his democratic predecessor he doesn't mistake human trafficking like black slavery for the secretarial office perks that are bound to become a part of his daily temptation. Men in power can rarely help themselves and will later justify their previous public quotes of sanctimonious behavior with "it depends on the definition of it"!!

  • Posted By: Kri8 @ 11/12/2008 7:08:51 PM

I am embarassed by this complacent enabling of those who perpetuate human trafficking and prostitution in the USA. Sweden is bright, Spitzer is not. The DOJ must have something to hide......

    Spitzer???

For that kind of money she should swallow.
