Get a life, they elected a terrorist into the the white house, and your worried about this crap. No wonder newspapers and reporters have such little respect.

Terrorist?!?! and who is they? Looking forward to forever in your case.
Comment: A terrorist???????
You're just plain stupid
This is a disgusting miscarriage of justice - in addition to violating the laws of the State of New York, the Mann Act has also been violated. Spitzer has not "paid for his sin" - it has only become public knowledge.
Nothingno one in this country is held accountable. I'll buy hookers, buy a house that I can't pay for, buy cars that I can afford, buy big screens with credit cards that I've run up to the max and I don't have to pay for anything because no body goes to jail for nothing in the US of A. We have given this election to Obama and the Democrats now RULE. It's going to get better, right? Hey even Clinton wasn't turned out of the White House, now the Black House, fo his philandering. This is a country is morally bankrupt!
For those that don't know there was a prop in San Francisco to stop prostitution arrest because of the expense of it all and it didn't pass. The reason its opposers gave is that they thought such a law would "embolden pimps."
Also keep in mind for those saying legalize this "service" then of course you'd have to legalize marijuana by the same token right? Or what about cocaine? Where does it stop?
Drugs and prostitution are not the same. Sex is natural and a good thing, drugs, at least most illegal ones, are bad for you.
Why was there not one mention of the fact that Mr. Spitzer is a democrat? If he were a republican who got caught doing what he did, you would have had the word republican in every sentence. Do you not realize that this biased journalism is doing a disservice to the entire nation? It doesn't matter if the bias comes from the left or the right. Your job is to hold each and every politician accountable, not just the ones whose political philosophies you disagree with.
Wasn't senator Craig a Rep ??
I don't recall teh press making a big deal of his party affiliation....
Spitzer is nothing more than a pawn in a much larger game. He was cracking down on the con men who are so abundant on Wall St. and it began to ruffle the wrong feathers so he was "Assassinated" so to speak. There is a much larger and important story here underneath this prostitution cover story.
Fact is, whatever anyone wants or wishes the law to be with regard to prostitution, Mr. Spitzer committed a felony and he is walking because he is a liberal democrat. Now go stick your heads back in the sand.
A felony? In what state is prostitution a felony?
I believe violation of the Mann Act is a felony. Mr. Spitzer violated the Mann Act, and he is not being prosecuted because of his status as a liberal democrat.
The Mann Act would only apply if Spitzer had transported Dupre across state lines. He met her out of state; he didn't transport her. Therefore, he only committed misdemeanor prostitution. Give him a $100 fine and let's move on.
I believe Mr. Spitzer did pay for Ms. Dupre to travel outside of New York (to Washington, I believe), so that she would perform sexual acts on him - ahem. So I think he did violate the Mann Act.
If he had an (R) after his name, he'd be prosecuted. Believe it.
The Mann Act was passed in 1910 to address concerns about white slavery. It has to be interpreted in that context. In modern times, it is almost never used. Federal case law makes clear that paying for a person to voluntarily travel across state lines to have sex is insufficient for prosecution under the Mann Act. That's why Spitzer is not being prosecuted under that statute; not because he's a democrat.
He only "met her" out of state. What he bumped into her at the hotel bar? I guess we just disagree....
Why is the fact that he is a democrat never mentioned in this article? If it was a republican who got caught doing that, the word republican would have been in every sentence. Do you not realize that this type of bias reporting is doing a disservice to the nation. Your job is to hold all politicians accountable, not just those who hold different political philosophies as you.
Oh please. The question was whether he used public or campaign funds for his activities. The DOJ evidently had a long standing policy of not pursing these types of crimes. Where was Newsweek when the William Ayers story broke?
Yea, really. The w riters don't have a clue as to what goes on in the profession. The ones who suffer do so because of all those who make it "illegal". If it was legal, than prostitutes would have the law to protect them. You are not fooling anyone, this is a morality issue and some morals change with the times. Its the high and mighty moralists who cause the harm to some of these girls.
So why not legalize prostitution along the lines in Europe. Many women actually choose the profession, and have no problem with it. The issue is it is illegal and it will always be around. You cannot eliminate it. But you can make it safer, and more transparent, and less of a drag on our justice system. The only other alternative is to make sure every couple is happily having sex and won't need anything on the side. Riiiight.
I can't believe that some of you have taken this to the political side of things. Do you really think the girl or women really cares who the sleeze bag is voted for? Prostution has been and will always be there and if you are a man that can say you have never payed for it .... i.e. Strip Club, Call Girl or Off the Street good for you and those that have next time you do, close your eyes and think that's someones daughter... I bet willy will go home quick after that...
Are you kidding me? These women are not innocent victims enslaved in an Eastern European sex slave ring, nor are they homeless dregs trying to survive on the street. This article is pure feminist propaganda that seeks to focus all the blame on men and not place an equal share on the women who have made a career of providing a commodity. This is a crime of morality, nothing more.
you go Bluto. Spitzer's "girlfriend" was lured to the profession by big bucks. She was from a middle class Jersey family, not a street kid with a drug habit. I suppose the moralists wouldn't be so noisy if she was putting out on campus for free.
this is how it is...the people who make these laws are the first to break them, and never enforce them on their own...for example in my town which is in california, a fireman has a randesvous(sp) with a prostitute at the park in the middle of the day at a small park across the street from our neighbors house...mind you which is also across the street from an elementary school that has an after schoo; program. the hooker proceeds to lift her dress above her waist and jump on the firemans lap and go to town...well to get my kids down the street to our house i have to call our local police dept. to get rid of these two outstanding citizens...not one but two patrol cars come, a total of four officers...their laughing with the hooker and the fireman and we're waiting to go home....no citation. no nothing...their the biggest pervs around...theres no service, and the only protecting is the own a$$es
At the least, Mr. Spitzer should be required to perform community service. He should be ordered to work for one of the numerous agencies that try to rebuild the lives of the women involved in prostitution. Maybe some firsthand experience with women whose lives were destroyed by prostitution would rehabilitate Mr. Spitzer. Maybe he would still think of himself as above the law and as the victim of political persecution. Letting him go because he has suffered enough for his immoral behavior is a 'soft on crime' sentence that disturbs most law abiding citizens. He got off; now it is wrong to let him off without some punishment.
Gov. Spitzer has ALREADY performed a community service by putting the fear of God into Wall Street and that bum Joe Bruno before he left office. Sure.. by being an idiot and letting his sicknesses triumph over him.. Spitzer also gave Bruno a last chuckle while going out the door.. but F it.. that is life and you gotta roll with 'em. The Wall Streeters got Spitzers head and we got the TRILLION dollar bill! Now leave Elliott and his lovely wife alone!
Yet another example of the wealthy being able to evade the laws the rest of us have to live by. But, what do we expect when the laws are made by lawmakers (also wealthy) who don't ahve to abide by them.
People are going after Spritzer because he went after people for breaking the Law. Spritzer would not haved rented a Prostitution if the Emperor's club had not existed. Ms Dupre is making all sorts of bogus defenses like being abused during Childhood. She joined the Emperor's club because she wanted to become frich. People go after womeen In Spritzer's case he merely showed a lack of Juudgement. He did not have tr=to hire a prostitute to have sex. He'd a high position. The girls would have gone after him if hed merely had signaled hs availability. In his case he merely looked in to a log of available prostitutes rather than inot a log of available girls, who are interested in men, from the society who are interested in mken. For that lack of juugement he paid a heavy price. He gave up his job of Governor to another man wsho might never have won the governorship in a free election. Look in this years presidential election and in the presidential election eight years ago. McCain lost. He'll never again get another chance. By his lack of judgement Governor Spritzerr handed over the Governorship of NYS to a man without contesting an election. You can't just hang Governor Spritzer for lack of judgement.
It is not April so this can not be a joke, but it does make the USA legal system very laughable. it is funny how some people can live above the law and they get away with it... He should not get away with this.. the law is the law.... or may be just for some..???
Yes , what he did was wrong. He, however, took responsibility for his actions and gave up his office. That's something Barney Frank,Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy and many other abusers did not do. Kudos to Eliot Spitzer and shame on the others. Leave him alone or prosecute every other john and malfeasant -equality for all.
you confuse prostitution and sexual trafficing. They are not one and the same. Women like Ashley Dupree are willing participants in the sex for money trade. Any woman making thousands of dollars an hour is not a victim. Spitzer didn't buy a woman. He bought sex that she was more than willing to provide. Had he met her at a party and she provided sex for free there would be absolutely no difference. The only crime is that he was stupid enough to pay thousands of dollars to her.
we have mnore importint things to worry about nnnnnnnnow He is a fool for doing that when in his a governor. you NEW yokeersw arer better off without him
Things are ok for us New Yorkers.. but we're not better off without Spitzer. That guy was upending a system that has been fossilized for 150 years or more and was kicking butt that needed kicking on Wall Street and was being damned effective too! He was all ready to go after the banks too just like a lot of the good attorney generals nationwide.. but the banks got their "hit" in on him and Spitzer had to fold. Too bad.. the guy was bright and could have been great. Unquestionably some sickness there and people like to beat him up about being a rich man's son.. as if half the jagoffs they worship on the national stage AREN'T rich men's sons. But this rich man's son had some real teeth to him.. he really was what Giuliani only pretends to be. Rudy is an expert office infighter but he wasn't the gutpuncher that Spitzer was and that's what we need in New York State... only encased in a velvet glove..
we have mnore importint things to worry about nnnnnnnnow He is a fool for doing that when in his a governor. you NEW yokeersw arer better off without him
It's never been right that women are prosecuted for prostitution and the johns are not. Two sides of the same coin. The only difference is that men make the rules and prosecute who they choose in this double standard society, and women will always take second place until they have more power in the legislative, judicial, and executive levels of the government.
If prostitution is no big deal, and selling one's body to whatever jerk has the cash is acceptable, then why aren't the "johns" on this board out pimping their a-holes for money ?? Same thing. For some reason, men think it would be more psychologically damaging for their body orifices to be used by creepy, stinky,
ugly old men than it is for women.
The law tends to pursue the baiters of the hook and not the fish. It saves time and money. Otherwise cops would spend all their time doing those prostitution stings and female police officers would spend as much time pretending to walk the streets as real streetwalkers do. It's not fair but it's effective. Prostitution SHOULD be decriminalized. The exploitation of desperate women should be openly attacked. But cute lil' Jersey girls who make good money from deploying their considerable skill to a select and privileged clientele are NEITHER prostitutes nor are they desperate and little wonder that the participants are not held to the letter of the law. This was a political hit... target destroyed... Giuliani gets his chance at the governorship... voila.. no need to bother Elliot anymore. I'm happy to see him and his wife moving on and enjoying each other's company. Any bitter women who want to punish all those men in their past through Elliot can go kick a dog or something.
Prostitution, the worlds' oldest profession, is under attack by the elitest do-gooders, like Norma Ramos and friends. To ban a consenting act between two adults, one of which gets paid well and one of which is willing to pay makes as much sense as banning booze (we all know how well that worked) makes no sense to me. I certainly don't favor "white-slavery" or any other illigal act, but what about those women who willing to make a good living and use that income to move on into other (more accepted) professions. I say legalize it, regulate it, i.e.Health checks, exit opportuities, eliminate the drug users etc. Consenting adults, proforming a natural act is not Criminal and shouldn't be treated as such.
