Prosecuting Johns

In the typical case, prostitution is not a victimless crime. This case appears to be atypical, however. Ms. Dupre apparently did not come from poverty or abuse but simply wanted to earn easy money.

Spitzer was proscecuting johns under the theory that prostitution was a form of conspiracy to aovid appropriate payment of taxes. Again, this appears to be a bit of a stretch. The prostitution business was not paying taxes and Spitzer knew this. On the other hand, he was attempting just to get laid. Prostitution is for lazy, selish people who do not want to have to take the time for foreplay but can live out their narcissistic urges without worrying about someone else's pleasure. In other words, Spitzer was a jerk. As someone who believes that the government should stay out of morality when it involves high paid "workers", it was not a big deal that Spitzer did not go to jail. If on the other hand, Spi9tzer put other johns in jail, then he should have had to serve the same sentence that he forced them to serve. while I believe that the government should stay out of high priced prostitution, hypocricy is never appropriate.

I'm a little confused myself. He broke the law...correct? I don't care how much public humiliation he gets for "breaking the law". He took an oath!!! He's suppose to be an example. So as an example...he needs to show us what happens when you "break the law". Hmmm...if they don't typically prosecute "johns that buy women from pimps" then why do they have stings with undercover prostitutes looking for johns?

Sounds to me like Prostitution is a symptom of several problems, but not a problem in itself. You cant get rid of prostitution simply by outlawing it and coming down hard on its practitioners and customers. Thats a feel-good measure to satisfy your moral standing. Yes its bad, and for all the reasons stated. But the only sure way to end prostitution is to solve the problems that give rise to it.

Spitzer is an IDIOT, a DISGRACE, a MISTRUST to the public and should be THROWN IN JAIL where he belongs, however, he probably paid off his friends to stop that. Well done. Prostitution is just one of many absolutely perverted practices of today, which our society has collectively decided to call a social issue or concern. No, it is a worldwide practice that debases, destroys and debilitates women and also gives men false and damaging expectations regarding sexual relationships.

Well the fact the laws make it Illegal and some get prosecuted and some don't is the issue and he should be prosectued because he is a public servant and should be setting an example a good one, not one that as a politician I can do what I want and all the laws be damned.
