    Its Just Stupid !
For one The Prostitute Should Be Jailed For a Long Time.
Okay Lets Look at it this way. The Guy Who Buys $20 Worth of Crack Should Get Far Mor Jail time than the Person Who Sells $500,000 Worth of Drugs Every Year.
Maybe We Should Let a Hitman Go Free, and ONLY Punish The One Who Hired Him.

The Fact is ..Just Like Drugs, Prostitution is ILLEGAL and the Prostiute Is the One Who Offers Her Body For sale.So why Shouldnt She Get The Worst Penalty Under the Law ?

Yes, allowing then=m to get awya with is an injustice, so is letting the media get away with not doing a proper backgroung=d chaeck on Obama. After all, as the media likes to claim, the Public Has a Right to Know. Or, is it Right to Know What We The Media Choose to Let Them Know to Serve Our Own Purposes!

    • Posted By: prettyfeet70 @ 11/12/2008 5:59:08 PM

Are you high? If the maedia could have found something out about Obama, they would have. There is nothing to find! They did go the extra mile to make up some lies about Obama - so it is not being a liberal that gets you off. The Gov did break the law and deserves to be punished, no one should be above the law. I agree with those that say prostitution should be legal. Any crime that requires consent should not be a crime. I'm sick of the murderers and rapists getting out of jail because they are too full of potheads and other drug sealers. I can say no to crack, but I can't say "no thanks - I don't feel like being raped today. Lots of stuff needs to be decriminalized and taxed. We are adults and deserve to be treated as such. Oh yeah - those of you that are ragging on Obama just need to deal with the fact that he won adn the majority of the US is happy with the outcome. Give the guy a chance - we put up with the LIAR GWB for 8 years, so it is our turn now.

Storm of comments show how popular the subject of the thread is...

I am sorry to read many acidic phrases.

It is only about 2 consenting adults having sex with money involved

Morally questionable, inappropriate, unbecoming to an AG,perhaps yes.

But no crime was done here.

Let's end that hypocricy & do euro-style legalisation of prostitution...

    • Posted By: TalkSoup @ 11/12/2008 5:59:01 PM

What do you mean "no crime was done here"
As the law reads, prostitution is a crime.

      End of story.

Go figure. A Democrat gets cvaught, and let off. In a Democratically run State of course.

Hollywood types get caught, and go figure, they get off.

You or I do this, and we get fried. Why bother to arrest people if you are going to let them off. A sham and a disgrace to the honorable oublic.

    • Posted By: clane @ 11/12/2008 5:58:44 PM

What honorable public. What cave do you live in?

Thank you mr garcia, for exhonorating a criminal like elliot spitzer and those who follow in his footsteps, and for setting a case law precedent that will be cited for years to come. really, you shouldn't have. i mean really, you should not have done such a heinous thing as this, but I am sure that Spitzer, who goes on without a criminal record, thanks you from the bottom of his hypocritical wallet.

  • Posted By: babyfeli @ 11/12/2008 5:58:07 PM

I DON'T THINK ITS FAIR TO LET HIM GO BECAUSE IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST ANY OTHER PERSON THEY WOULDN'T LET THEM GO THAT EASY. SO IF I GETCAUGHT DOING THE SAME ALL I HAVE TO DO IS GO PUBLIC AND I'M SET FREE? I DON'T THINK SO..................MAKE HIM PAY

Get a life, they elected a terrorist into the the white house, and your worried about this crap. No wonder newspapers and reporters have such little respect.

It is a disgrace. The Government is just wanting tax-payers' money when it refuses to prosecute johns. The prostitutes will continue to sell their body with or without a deterrant but by prosecuting johns that will decrease the demand for prostitution because the buyers of flesh have more to lose than a prostitute.

We could have a "War on Ho's" just think of the cable news music and graphics they will come up with, how exciting!!!

Isn't this the same state that sent Martha Stewart to jail. Wonder if there was any gender bias there? High profile woman breaks the law, throw the book at her, but boys will be boys.

    • Posted By: Susanlynne367 @ 11/12/2008 5:56:36 PM

So true, and aptly put. Martha Stewart was a target because she was a woman in control of a media empire who didn't play by the rules of the good ol'e boy's club.

I like Spitzer. People forget about his tireless efforts as AG of NY and his papers in 2005 where he openly cited the pharmaceutical, banking, financial service, and insurance industries as being "rife with fraud and abuse" and having a "common thread of fiduciary irresponsibility" between them. He has been the only figure head doing ANYTHING about ethics in corporate America, even while receiving daily threats at his office. People criticized him for being such do-gooder when he was only doing his job...a job no one else WOULD do. If others had taken his lead and put a stop to the overt fraud and abuse in the mortgage market, we may have averted the credit crunch, the economic slump, and possibly a different President-elect. He was very clear on how fraud in the above industries drag down the economy. So he has sex with a hooker. Big deal. Half the people reading this work with someone unfaithful or probably have been themselves. I hope Spitzer makes a comeback.

Spoken like a true Republican. Someone could threaten you with great bodily harm and you would still refuse to renounce your Re-Pube-lican ways. Don't forget the trained monkey who bears the bloody hands of all our soldiers killed in vain. His name is George Bush and his evil buddy is not someone you want to take hunting -especially after a few "cold ones." So keeping on blaming people and we'll keep laughing at your pathetic ideology.

Let us closely watch Mr. Garcia's career path from this point forward. He has granted a monumental favor at the request/demand of powerful people and he will expect repayment. Power driven and without a concience, yet still in a position of public service and trust. Tragic.

  • Posted By: TalkSoup @ 11/12/2008 5:55:55 PM

Does this mean I can go to New York and hire a lady to service my needs, then get caught and the law will just let me walk away?

  • Posted By: x-ray111 @ 11/12/2008 5:55:26 PM

Why isn't his party affiliation mentioned "he is a Democrat" i gaurantee that if he was a Republican the headline would be "Republican govenor Eliot Spitzer won't be tried" but wait a minute, the main stream media doesn't go after dems with the same vitriol as they do repubs.

  • Posted By: Madatgov @ 11/12/2008 5:55:18 PM

Letting Spitzer off the hook is despicable - but no more than letting Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd and their ilk get away with actually helping the lending institutions destroy our economy and the retirement accounts of millions of Americans! Those of you on the Newsweek staff may take satisfaction in writing about Eliot Spitzer but it's incredible watching you let Frank and Dodd get away with their incredibly arrogant and damaging behavior. Sex sells. Apparently ruining people's lives doesn't meet the same standard!

  • Posted By: mizz31 @ 11/12/2008 5:54:58 PM

HHAHAHAHA i knew he woulndt be charged with anything. common he is a man in power, when is the last time you have seen someone in power behind bars for doing something wrong?????? The police shoot and kill innocent people and physically assault then i.e. Rodney king. When Rodney got his ass whopped the incident was captured on video tape and the officers were still acquitted. This doesn't surprise me one bit people ion these power positions have been getting off for years. The only time the government will put their foot down is if you get caught for tax evasion. Its all about the all mighty dollar at the end of the day.

  • Posted By: oliverotterpop @ 11/12/2008 5:54:23 PM

BMOR you have alot of common sense i agree with that i never saw it from that view...

  • Posted By: katye421 @ 11/12/2008 5:25:36 PM

What hypocrisy at the outrage I'm seeing here! Hey, it was two consenting adults, right? What difference does it make if money changed hands, or power, or promises? It was still TWO CONSENTING ADULTS. Anyone who says otherwise is only lying to themselves.

    • Posted By: TalkSoup @ 11/12/2008 5:30:17 PM

Yeah but the outrage is all in the fact that anyone else doing this would have been punished under the law. The law doesn't seem to apply to the Senator. That is the hypocrisy.

      • Posted By: clane @ 11/12/2008 5:54:05 PM

Amen, that Mark Foley should have his nuts cut off. That idiot Larry Craig, the guy with the wide stance as well. Not to mention that reprehensible Ted Stevens. The worst is that douche Tom Delay............OOPS, sorry I didn't realize that mostly morons were posting here. Idiots who actually believe that there is any difference between a repuglican and a dummocrat. You all make me sick. This country dies while ass-wipes like all of you still breathe.

  • Posted By: oliverotterpop @ 11/12/2008 5:52:13 PM

once again... no need to get all defensive by other peoples comments...

common sense girl really knows whats going on though. good statement.

  • Posted By: Ladyethyme @ 11/12/2008 5:50:52 PM

Perhaps I could find your reasoning more convincing if you capitalized proper names and used punctuation. Obviously a well-educated person....with no common sense.

  • Posted By: BMor @ 11/12/2008 5:50:39 PM

Spitzer gets a free pass because if you sent the johns to jail you'd have to lock up a large number of our politicians (& probably the prosecutor.) so much for morals in washington. answer me this....how can a convicted criminal be elected to the senate? (ala Stevens of Alaska). you want to bet he'll get a free pass also. what is going to come out of the ruling on Palin that she abused her power as governor when she canned the guy that wouldn't fire her sister's ex? isn't the challenge to find a moral & honest politician........they're extinct.
