That was not very nice of you, can you agree?
There is no mention by the author of David Vitter, the "distinguished" US Senator from Louisiana, who recieved a standing ovation from his Senate colleagues after his prostitution liasons were exposed.
I was shocked to read this article by Newsweek. Eliot Spitzer was amoung many who hired a prosiitute yet no other man was idenified in public. This was clearly a set up to bring Sptizer down. Eliot was about to indict those involved in the Wall Street scam and as we see the Stock Market crashed. This was made to make him look bad, yet not one from Newsweek had a problem with George HW Bush having a mistress or Larry Craig lookin for sex in men's room or David Vitters who is still hiring prositutes. Bush had lied and committed more crimes then all the criminals in jail yet newsweek see's no problem. Eliot isn't perfect but I guess those who are paid by the White House Propaganda Dept. in Newsweek are perfect. I only wish newsweek had stepped up and given Foley as much coverage for molesting kids as spreading lies about Spitzer. No other John has ever had their name release and is just given a fine that's the law but Newsweek didn't bother to check with the legal department. Look for President Obama to hire Eliot Spitzer as he's one of the brightest Lawyers we have and he will finally bring down the corrupt people who robbed the Stock Market and the American taxpayers.
Are you kidding? And as long as you're pointing the liberal finger, it's only fair to point right back: Bill Clinton, JFK. Two sitting US presidents and two of the biggest philanderer's there ever were. One might also conjecture that the same "mysterious forces" were behind the very public flogging of the politicians you mentioned, and for the same reasons. But let's dispense with the cloak and dagger, Machiavellian bull-chit, ok? I think the only forces at work were greed, immorality, and exceedingly poor judgement. No one; not senator, governor, man, woman, nor PRESIDENT should be allowed to skate scott free on the heels of such disgraceful, criminal behavior. There has got to be a cost for insulting the intelligence, the sense of normalcy and decency of the 95% of ethical, moral, hardworking Americans. What's that saying ... "Nemo me impune lacessit;" "No one provokes me with impunity!"
No love lost for politicians in America...
The law against prostitution is wrong...
Time to change it...
Just another story in a long line of political types being above the law... www.alyciamartin.blogspot.com. Wake up America, slogans about "Change" is the mantra of the very people doing these things and in charge of the aparatus of government.
This decision is disqusting. It simply reinforces my belief that our government is morally and ethically corrupt. Will we ever find an american leader who simply has integrity. During the course of my 44 year life greed and corruption has deteriorated the very fabric of the country that I have defended as a member of the armed forces for the last 26 years and continue to do so today. We service members defend our constitutuon, bill of rights, and moral foundation on which our country was founded. We do not serve those who currently sit in positions of influence within our government and abuse their privilege and responsibility to repsresent us according to their own moral and ethical degradation.
I agree. All you can do is try to help the people when and where YOU can. The only "change" will be one person at a time by individuals, the entire system is corrupt with influence and patronage. Witness and read about Alycia Martin, a 20 year old caught up with Senator Stabenow's spouse in Troy, Michigan. www.alyciamartin.blogspot.com
As disgraceful as you might find Mr. Spitzer's actions in relation to his engaging women for sex for money, he did a heck of a lot of good for the public in going after corruption and corporate fraud while he was a prosecutor. That took some b#&!!s and backbone, and he was uniquely and broadly successful. Of course, the flip side is that as an agent of the law (prosecutor) you have a higher-than-normal obligation to uphold the law, and he obviously made a big mistake by deciding to pay for sex. Bottom line, he's not a total scumbag criminal, he's a mixed bag of mostly good with a little bad. Things are never black and white, just different shades of grey. He has paid for his sin - he has been publicly disgraced, lost his position of power and recognizes the significance of the law. Move on to something more important - like catching the real criminals who actually buy and sell people (not sexual services).
Elliott Spitzer did anything but do a good job...in going after corruptuion and public fraud. His prosecutions destroyed the research analyst industry and contributed to today's economic problems by taking away the group of individuals who could have warned on the consequences of complex derivatives and loosening loan quality to corporate valuations. Whether it was his ego, sense of entitlement or just dopeyness I can't say but the sooner he was removed from his position of governor, the less additional harm he could do to the American people. Think of Ms Dupre as the real hero, participants in the US financial system are the victims and Elliot is a pompous fool who deserves prosecution if only for revenge.
Lemme guess, you're a financial analyst. Get a grip, he did what nobody else had the guts or determination to do: take on major corporate fraud and corruption. Yes, the fall out of this is that some people are going to lose jobs because their job is somehow associated with these corporate wrongdoers and their bad acts. That's life, there's always consequences, so get over it and keep the big picture in mind.
It is ABSURD to attempt to criminalize prostitution. It has been part of human behavior since the beginning of time and always will be.
I have no doubt that most women would prefer to be Oprah instead of a hooker; however, not every woman has the job skills or self discipline to succeed in a ???normal??? job. Wouldn???t we be more humane and realistic as a society if we required sex workers to license, have regular exams, and adopt a ???working name??? so that they would be able to leave the life at some point.
Let???s put the woman???s health and safety ahead of moral indignantion.
Yes prostitution has been part of human behaviour since the beginning of time, as has theft, murder, incest, spousal abuse, child abuse, and pedophilia. They are illegal because they hurt, degrade, and are unjust and discriminatory - just like prostitution. Spousal abuse is still abuse even if the spouse comes back for more. Prostitution is still degrading and onesided even if the prostitute chose her profession for whatever reason. Charge him and set a high standard for once.
Asking someone to work in a coal mine is dangerous and exploitive but if that is what they have to do to provide for there family, then that???s what they do.
If women were honest, more than a few would admit that they have sex for money in many ways that our society finds acceptable. Women have sex with influential or popular guys because they think it will help them in their careers. MONEY. They marry rich or important men because they think it will give them an easier life. MONEY. If a woman decides to have sex with someone and wants to get paid at the end of the night instead of waiting until the end of the marriage, then that should be her choice if she takes reasonable steps to protect society.
I'm a woman and I would rather get paid at the end of the night, then I wouldn't have to put up with and bullshit from some man trying to tell me what to do and how to life my life as if I can't think for myself.
Hell, my ex-husband tried to get money from me at the end of the marriage because he was a, ***, bitter that I filed for divorce and dumped his sorry ass, and a loser that made less money than I did, so don't hand me that BS that women want a man's money following the break-up of a marriage!
What kind of exams? Like an oral exam? Surely not a written test...
I say legalize it.
Adultery is a crime in New York State. Section 255.17 of the NYS penal law states, ???A person is guilty of adultery when one engages in sexual intercourse with another person at a time when that person has a living spouse, or the other person has a living spouse. Adultery is a class B misdemeanor.??? A class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days in jail or a $500 fine.
Although New York???s matrimonial laws were last updated on September 1, 1907 (I kid you not), these are laws that all New Yorker???s must abide by and our elected officials are no exception. Spitzer should be doing time. Take him over to Supreme Court, have him testify, cuffed and sent to some 75 year old upstate jail.
Adultery is against the law, but do you know the number of men and women that will commit adultery just because they are separated from their spouse, and then will justify the nact of cheating based on the separation? Ask anyone that is separated and 9 out of 10 people will say that it is not considered adultery to have sex outside of their marraige because they are separated, even though legally they are still married.
Our society is nothing more then a bunch hypocrits, they change the rules of morality to suit their selfish needs, these kind of people do not hold integrity as a virture, are not to be trusted, and are not marriage material. If you meet someone that thinks that way and get married to them, as soon as you problems in your marriage they will repeat history, separate and cheat.
soo what if he manage to get some good sex. I do not mind. it is not my business what he do in his spare time with his money. He woork hard and if his wife is not letting him have some good sex, well that is all good. His wife should have been the one asking why he cheated and not us. She should have open up a little bit more and not hold back so much. I am a woman and if my husband want to have sex well, baby he will have it 24/7. women seem to forget when they were trying to get their men, they did all the frieky stuff and some. The problem come after they say I do. Women wake up. a man want you to be a wife, a family care taker, a friend, some one that is presentable in public, but must off all they need you to be a whore in the bedroom. To all the woman out there wake up, you are fullling yourself if you think your husband demand anything else. He may not say it but he sure is thinking it. It is your responsiility to make sure that you keep the fire burning in your bedroom, if not a prostitute will have your man during the same kind of sex twith her that you wish he could do with you. Men, wake up. if you like some thing just do it. take charge in the bedroom if your with is a cold woman. a little advice try adam and eve. com for all your sexy freicky stuff. To Eliot Spitzer, good luck next time. I doo not suggest that you try another prostitute when you already married to one. I'm sorry to all the women out there, but it is true. God create us to satisfy our husband sexally and he to us. everyone is a born whore in the bedroom, and a lady outside the bedroom, it is our responsibility to keep out partner happy. to both of you, if you do not know what to do try looking at some of the sex tape and experiment.
cglai,
You're obviosly from out of town?
Whoa! I don't know what is more shocking; what you've said or how you've said it!
I shudder to know where you'd stand on rape too.
You must be very inhibited sexually, because the comment you reference of being shocked by contains sound advice and a great deal of truth. My guess is, you, and a lot of other people will not receive it because it did not come in the form that you wanted it too.
The biggest mistake people make is people make in life is losing out on a lot because it doesn't come package like they think it should, but if you take a good look at the point the poster is making and instead of taking a good look at the content, or form it came in you will see the truth of an important point that could last you a life time.
Take a closer look and you will see what???s inside, it has everything that you want but are afraid to accept it because of the form it came in.
More feminist hypocritical drivel. According to feminists, prostitutes are victims, johns are criminals. Prostitutes that make $2,000 an hour are hardly 'victims'.
What about the majority of prostitutes, who DON'T make $2,000.00 an hour? What about the girl at the truck stop that makes maybe $30.00 for a BJ or $50 for straight sex? Are they "hardly victims"? What about the girl walking the streets in New York, Chicago, LA, making $50-$60 a trick. Are they "hardly victims"?
What about the runaway girl who gets off a bus somewhere and is met by this nice person, who offers her somewhere to stay and gets her hooked on drugs and then puts her on the street? Is SHE 'hardly a victim"? Or the young man who finds himself in the same situation? (and there are male prostitutes too!) Is HE "hardly a victim"?
I agree that there are those who choose to make money this way with clear thinking. And I agree there are some who can command such high prices by sheer factor of their looks and personality. But I really think there are way too many more who are in this position because THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE FOR THEM TO GO. These are the people that are not "hardly victims".
This article is about women that make $2,000 per hour. It is not about women that prostitute themselves because they want a cheeseburger from a fast food joint. If women claim they are so independent and 'I am woman, hear me roar', the prostitutes you speak about are a clear minority. If not, something is not adding up. Prostitution is the oldest profession for a reason. Women too often use it to play both ends against the middle. How many guys have been on dates with 'legalized prostitutes'? Wine me, dine me, buy me fancy jewels and the big reward? A roll in the hay. Pu-lease. Women make their choices and blaming men for those lousy choices has run it's course. We are NOT taking the rap for any more bad choices that women make. Male prostitutes? They make the same bad choices. End of story. Some day women that are so willing, ready, and able to endlessly preach to men about men taking responsibility for their lives, will turn that preaching on themselves and walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.
Sure.. the drug addled street hookers AND trafficked women ARE the majority. Also.. McDonald's is causing a tidal wave of heart disease and diabetes. We have to fight hard the lure that causes people to partake in the illegal underground markets like drugs and paid sex and fight the ignorance that causes people to choose to put garbage in their bodies. But Ashley Dupre is sort of like the tuna salad at Whole Foods.. a little too much mayonaisse but all in all not THAT bad for you or for society. We'll always have women who will trade their beauty and sexual skill for money and, even though it's still black market, the prices and money involved mean that everyone was getting well compensated and no one was forced so there is no harm and no foul. I wonder how much Ashley Dupre would charge to let me watch her eat Whole Foods Tuna Salad through a glass window! Oh well... more than I'd make in a year anyway!!
This quote really seems wrong:
"The DOJ policy is out of step with volumes of evidence that prostitution arises out of adverse social conditions such as being sexually abused in childhood, poverty, racism, lack of educational and economic opportunities, disability, and a culture that increasingly commodifies girls."
Those aren't problems caused by prostitution. Those are problems that will exist regardless of whether prostitution is around or not.
The authors of this opinion piece also apparently believe that the DOJ is obligated to prosecute every single crime. Prosecutors have an immense amount of discretion. This is normal and expected. Using their discretion is not considered to be subverting Congress.
Something must be wrong with the heads at DOJ. Starting last year I presumed that all FEDERAL EMPLOYEES were required to take a REQUIRED ANNUAL course about the wrongs of Human Trafficketing and that being part of this can result in termination of employment, fines etc. I'm an employee of the Department of Defense and thought that this a federal wide mandate. Is the Justice Department excluded from this?
We should legalize prostitution now since Mr. Garcia has such a light view of it. As a matter of fact, with the plummeting ecomony it might be a God-send for Wall Street. We can start investing in whore houses instead of 'financial houses'. What's the difference anyway except no one is being decieved that they are getting f*#*ed.
Just another example of "no personal responsibility" for the prostitute. These girls never choose to be prostitutes, according to the authors, they are coerced by abusive men at some point. I have known a lot of prostitutes and not one has ever made such a claim. These women are in this business for the excellent money it brings them. They are very willing parties to this so-called human trafficking and are not sorry or repentant in any way. I notice in the article that no mention is made of the girls returning the money they made while prostitutes. The writers would simply allow them to walk away from this profession when they choose, and if confronted, simply say they were forced into it.
Evil comes in many forms and have great power over the flesh we are caution not to past judgement and to depart from evil, and above all love each other.
There is not "volumes of evidence" that show prostitution arising out of adverse social conditions, poverty, etc. This article is pure fabrication..
Oh, for heaven's sake!! No one is "buying and selling" women! Women are selling their services as adults should be free to do with other adults! FYI, there are also men who sell their services! Amazing! Huh? Why can't these Americans "get a life" and keep their noses out of the activities of other adults, be they prostitutes and their clients, or any other "consenting adults"? Would someone please tell me how my activities in the bedrromprivacy of my own home somehow interferes with YOUR marriage?? (Just a rhetorical question as I'm not gay but I'm so fed up with those whose religious teachings demand that they bother others to adhere to their own beliefs!
This article is misleading and disingenuous.. the author isn't arguing for prosecuting Spitzer per si, but she's arguing that prostitution in general should be prosecuted, and Spitzer should be prosecuted to be made an example of, even though ordinarily the policy of the DOJ is *not* to prosecute johns. The title should be, "why the DOJ should prosecute johns." Way to mislead the reader..
