Newsweek: Ex-NY Governor Spitzer has been shamed by his actions and will go down in infamy disgraced. However, I have yet to read any article by Newsweek denegrating the dispicable acts currently occurring in California and Conn. as they relate to homosexuality and same-sex marriage. TELL ALL THE TRUTHS OR NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what if it was your wife or daughter that was sleeping with him for the money that ok for you, but what if it was your sun and Spritzer geting maried you would have a problem with that. humm?

Perhaps Mr. Garcia would see things differently if his own daughter was the one victimized by Spitzer and those like him, who are the reason why human trafficing and prostitution exists. Without consumers, there is no market. Garcia thinks he has suffered enough? I say he hasn't suffered until he has walked in the shoes of his victims. If the moral and ethical issue are meaningless to him, perhaps society would best be served by leveling hefty monetary fines upon Spitzer and those of his kind. He is no better than the men who molest young children in my opinion. This is political favoritism. It is a miscarraige of justice. It's as simple as that.

Damn! I'm moving back to New York toot sweet!

When I get caught for prostitution I'm going to claim the Spitzer Clause!

They had better let me go because if not, I'm going to raise hell and then I'm going to sue the government for millions of dollars for emotional trauma.

Then I'm going to get a book deal and be on Jerry Springer or Maury and run the gamut of talk shows and live beyond my 15 minutes of fame.

When that's done I'm going to continue to milk the system even more by making appearances on reality television shows.

When the public has forgotten about me I'm going to purposely get into trouble and once again propel myself into the minds of people.

I'll make sure to call the papanazis so they will take my picture and throw it onto the front page of the tabloids where I'll lie and say that Spitzer's and old friend of mine and that we used to smack prostitutes around and give each other high fives.

Yeah, that's the ticket.....the American Way.

I do not think that prostitution should be prosecuted at all. Considering that in most of the past elections for commander and Cheif or Presiden that the vote is the subject of prostitution by the bidding war thru the offering of tax cuts, why is this so bad

If we can accept the President as being a prostitute and elect him who are we the people to condem any one else who buys a prostitute. To quote an old saying, " He who lives in a glass house should never throw stones"

No do not Prosecute himfor we all are John's

This makes me sick!!! This is why citizens have very little respect for the law these days. I know I have absolutely none at this point. Why should the average citizen have to pay for his/her crimes when people such as this Spitzer character don't have too? The next time I get a ticket I will be sure to tell the prosecutor and judge that I'm really sorry and should not have to pay for my "crime"...We'll see how far that flies, my guess is I will be thrown in the can for being a smart a$$...
This favoritism of the rich and famous has got to stop if this country has a hope of it's citizens paying any respect to the justice system...
And people wonder why crime doesn't stop...
    Give me a break!!

This witchunt is ridiculous. Spitzer was targeted because he was prosecuting the felons on Wall Street who ripped us all off. Leave the man alone!

This is ridiculous. Spitzer was targeted because he was prosecuting the felons on Wall Street--the bankers and the investment companies that ripped us all off.

Oh, get a life!!! Sex is a normal thing; people go to prostititues for all sorts of reasons. Prostitiutes go into it for all sorts of reasons. The only reason Spitzer was gone after is his dishonesty. His whole career was geared toward public service, which is now done; he's been punished...let's let the rest of us worry about the impending depression and other (way) more important things.

The typical policy is to go after the prostitutes and their pimps, not those who buy sex from them. This is a strategic decision. It it too costly and too much effort to have trials for the many, many people who buy sex from a prostitute. Jailing the pimps, however, guarantees the operations will not have any more future customers. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this policy, but it is the current policy. Spitzer should be treated the same way as anyone would be treated for the given crime.

This is but another travesty of justice foisted upon the public by our sterling elected officials and government appointees. What a shame. Perhaps the U.S. Attorney and Mr. Spitzer need to refresh their reading with "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire," in which moral decay and its acceptance had a large part in the demise of the largest-to-date political power in World History.

  • Posted By: mycoffeeporch @ 11/12/2008 4:55:02 PM

Man made the law; the law was broken by Mr. Spitzer; he should be punished, according to the law, for breaking it. End of story. Is that so hard to digest?

Oh - how about if YOUR spouse's face was on Mr. Spitzer's body - - - how do you think you'd like that?!

  • Posted By: lawmf @ 11/12/2008 4:54:57 PM

elliott spitzer is just one of hundreds of thousands of men who seek out prostitutes. Do you really want our taxpayer dollars going towards the proecution of these individuals? Give me a break!! As i tell my children (whom are adults now) almost everyday - "pick your battles". i truly believe that both of you could have come up with a better "opinion". we have so much more important problems in this world, elliott spitzer is the least of it. meliss & norma .....GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't the U.S. Attorney prosecute a few of the johns in the Canal Street Madam case in New Orleans a few years ago? I think they did...and with felony charges. Why the turnaround?

  • Posted By: SISinNJ @ 11/12/2008 4:53:48 PM

I'm ok with him not being prosecuted. I never heard of anyone going to jail for paying for a hooker. The folks that should be prosecuted are the ones that are running these operations. Spitzer paid the price already and will continue to do so for the rest of his life, not so much with his wife, but with his 3 beautiful girls. That is the biggest punishment he will endure while he is on earth!!

  • Posted By: stephcap @ 11/12/2008 4:52:49 PM

This is just another case that shows people in high power are above the law, so really whats the point in having the laws if only a select number of people have to follow them? in the past few years the wind has been taken out of my sails when it comes to political figures and celebrities getting off with a slap on the hand. crazy thing is if the roles were flipped and it was elliot spitzer's daughter that was involved there would be a huge uproar and heads would spin but since its a political man well then lets just look the other way. the whole system is terrible and makes me ashamed and scared that people like the DOJ are suppose to keep us safe, they can't even keep us safe from political officials so good luck with that one!

  • Posted By: formillers @ 11/12/2008 4:52:26 PM

It's about holding our top law enforcement officials to the same standard of accountability - legal not just "moral" wherein Eliot Spitzer to date has managed only to drag his innocent wife before national cameras and require her to be his victim in all of this - in order to satisfy to the highest degree his arrogance as to what he did - over and over - multiple times over - which is money launder, which is transport criminal activity over state lines, which is engage in prostitution as a law breaking "john". You sure as heck bet it sets for political parties - a stinky low standard. The dems get one big one here in Eliot Spitzer walking away scot free on this one. When he sure as heck should be appearing in court on multiple criminal charges for what he chose to do - leaving his wife at home this time around. After all this lowest of men prosecuted other men - vehemently so - for the very same offenses. Hypocrites - all the way around.

Comment: He never showed any mercy for any of his victims and was always so quick to prosecute. He is a sad and pitiful human being. MR SELF RIGHTOUS OF OUR DECADE.

  • Posted By: franciem53 @ 11/12/2008 4:51:31 PM

So basically, what the DOJ is saying is that it's ok to arrest, charge, photograph and print Joe Blow for using a prostitute, but Mr. Spitzer is special so we'll give him a pass. Sounds about right. Mr. Average Man must abide by the rules or suffer the consequences, but Mr. Rich Man is above such rules. Why doesn't this surprise me?

  • Posted By: Mr Alveezy @ 11/12/2008 4:51:15 PM

Correct me if Im wrong but did the Feds not choose to get involved in the Mike Vick case in part because once it crossed state lines it was "now a Federal matter?" Oh my bad I guess they had to put away that menace to animals since that's in the publics best interest. I forgot those were dogs, certainly not as valuable as a actual human woman who's body is being sold. Oh but wait they said they don't "typically" prosecute johns huh? I wonder how typically they federally prosecute dog killers? Hmmmm......
