It is unbeleivable that Spitzer, who utilized his office as a personal star chamber to wreck havoc on Wall Street and with prominent citizens, would be able to get a walk when he intentionally secreted funds to promote illegal interstate activities. The prosecutor needs to find a new occupation more suitable for his social work, Finally, where is the N.Y. bar on this one. Even Clinton as I recall was admonished by the Arkansas bar.

Eliot Spitzer was not the only person on Wall Street to use the services of a high priced prostitute.
He was the pitbull of Wall Street and the U.S. Stock Market.
In order for the thieves to be able to run rampant, they had to eliminate him first.
Eliot Spitzer knows who all the crooks are, and how they operate.
If he had been in place they never would have been able to get away with the damage they've done.

agdfgdfgadfga ...it is a shame that people like you even exist in this wonderful country!! Racism is the epitome of ignorance. Obam/Biden (obiviously) '08-'16!

I agree with the fact that writting about this "personal" matters is so ridicule and outdated that makes us all, as a society, hypocrits (like coolroses says).
    American people... GROW UP!!!!

I hope his wife ransacks him. He'll never "afford" it again.

America is currently being screwed to the tune of $700 BILLION, with more to come, by VERY SMART pimps, and you all are worried about Spitzer's dick?
    God Almighty....!!!

Imagine if we had a President that did something like this?? And then lied to a grand jury about it!

  • Posted By: ThinkaboutitOpenMinded @ 11/12/2008 9:10:18 PM

Unless the prostitute is a "sex slave", prostituting against her own will, then this is a victim-less crime. Women sleep with men sometimes dozens a day, and that is very legal! When you get paid for the oldest profession, then people want people imprisoned. He has already been publicly humiliated and he has given up his office. Time served.

Gee.. Imagine if we had a President that did anything like this! WOW!!

When you 'work for the people' you should behave how you expect them to. Funny that he was talking the talk about going after johns & got caught with his hand in the candy jar. Pay the price. As far as the job goes, he gave it up when he was so sure he wouldn't get caught & did. That's the only thing he was sorry about - getting caught.

By your own definition then, justice was served. There is no need to persue this further.

sashi - 2 different matters. It's a crime & he was in a position of trust & denouncing 'these acts' publicly. He's the hypocrite!

So what else is new the Dems get away with just about anything. Does anyone remember Barney Frank's lover running a male prostitution ring out of his basement unbeknownst to him. No wonder he didn't know what was going on at Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae. Worst part of Spitzer is that he sold himself as this holier than thou persona. We should throw all our politicians out and start from scratch before it is to late.

So what about Republican Larry Craig???

  • Posted By: juggernaut77 @ 11/12/2008 9:05:21 PM

This is a worthless, inane, and ignorant article. WHy the editor or publisher would allow such uninformed and rather stupid portrayal of the fedearl statutes is beyond comprehension. I fthese writers have a problem with the decision by the US Attorney, Mr. Garcia, then write a letter directly to HIM-not to the readers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ms. Farley and Ms. Ramos your lack of knowledge regarding legislation, congressional intent, and the policy of the DOJ vis-a-vis the US Attormey's office is so prominent, I would sugges tthat both of you return to high school and re-educate yourselves on government, the US Constitution, the "separation of powers" doctrine.
Please no more inartful or unitelligent articles.

Surely it couldn't be that he caught by the Feds who were using illegal wiretaps??

  • Posted By: Dyingbreed @ 11/12/2008 9:03:24 PM

Not unlike the days of Roman, our upper class has drawn a line of distinction between the ruling party and the ruled. Laws apply to all the same or not at all. So now that prostitution is legal according to the DOJ, we should all invite a lady of the evening over for cocktails.

  • Posted By: SweetLily @ 11/12/2008 9:03:24 PM

Get over it... he paid to uck someone who wanted to be ucked for money. In our state a Senetor's husband got off without ever being charged for hiring a prostitute. However they did charge and find guilty the prostitute. It all depends on who you are.

Why have we turned into such a "string him up by his thumbs society when the norm in the society is supporting shacked up couples, bastard children and allienation of affection mom's? Spitzer is no danger to society and we don't need him cluttering up our prisons.

This countries mentality and morality is stuck in the 15th century. People like sex! People will pay other people for sex! If it is your money, your body why can't you buy or sell it at your pleasure? If I want to sell my car, my clothes, my hat my pet or anything else that is mine I can sell it in this country, unless it is an illegal controlled substance. However, if I want to sell my sexual services to a person willing to purchase them it is a crime. No the ironic part of this is that I can "give" those same sexual services away and commit no crime. In other cases a person can steal those services (rape) and I am questioned and berated to make sure not that I didn't want to give my services away but that I didn't ask for money. What a stupid group of people.

You need to live in Thailand.

Other than the fact Mr. Spitzer is a high-profile defendent, his use of prostitutes is typical of the crime. As the majority of "Johns" are historically not prosecuted for their crimes, neither should Mr. Spitzer.

Spitzer has already been "outed"; the taxpayer does not need to pay for a public spectacle. The woman he was involved criminally with was the age of consent.

Change the age of consent law, Ms. Ramos, or prosecute all who engage in this crime, men and women, to the fullest extent of the law, Ms. Farley, and you will have me on your side of this argument.

Otherwise, Spitzer is just another "John".

  • Posted By: Sashi48 @ 11/12/2008 9:01:10 PM

So...... Eliot Spitzer paid his OWN money to screw one willing person, while the rest of the politicians screw hundreds of thousands of protesting taxpayers every day out of their hard earned money and HE"S the MONSTER? Since when is prostitution a high crime in comparison to robbery and rape?
What a bunch of hypocrites!! The sky is falling and you're worried about ONE piece of *ss???
