Come on thousands of ruined lives! Perhaps hundreds; more likely a few hundred if that matter. The Johns whop have been prosecuted - have received misdemeanor convictions just like the prostitutes. I don't have any thing in favor of this clown - but to get all high and mighty about some guy who went to see a whore regularly - that kind of judgment is reserved for his maker. I am certain what he has already lost - the trust of his family, his position of Governor, his status in the political party of his interests - has been a thoroughly devastating experience. As for his judging the evils of something he himself was involved in - Frankly I am certain that description could well describe many of us - or are those of us entering a comment that lily clean - I'm not I know that.

WHY ARE YOU WORRING ABOUT SUCH FOOLISHNESS?????????????

    • Posted By: mjborland07 @ 11/12/2008 8:09:04 PM

Why are you reading this if you think it's foolish? Why don't you go to
MySpace? That might perhaps be more on your level.

If a woman has the "right" to choose killing her unborn child, why can't that same woman choose to use her own body in a sexual situation for money? I must be missing something. I think a woman's "right" to choose SHOULD include HER body, not that of her child.

    • Posted By: PvillePi @ 11/12/2008 8:08:47 PM

the unborn child is her body

Wether or not it should be legalized is a different argument.

In this case there was a law on the books and he decided to ignore the law.

At the level Mr Spitzer was involved I can only comment that the women involved have voluntarily chosen their profession and make big money for their effort. While I agree that at other levels, such as the street walkers turning tricks to enrich pimps or feed their own addiction, there is exploitation. Whatever the reason the women at the upper extremes may have for participating it sure isn't because they are being exploited. Bleed for the one's who fit the profile you seem to want to cover. Your article alleges that every level involves a pimp/prostitute relationship and nothing you say backs this up.

This opinion article was written by two women who feel strongly that prostitutes are victims and johns are as much to blame. As with prohibition that failed, you aren't going to stop this folks, no matter how many laws are passed. Legalize and regulate. Sex is good and natural, despite our Puritan ways. Nevada does it just fine, as do several European countries. No exploitation there, just a satisfying transaction for all involved.

This is nothing short of gross abuse of power. Spitzer was the one ARRESTING and PROSECUTING men for doing exactly the same thing, Prostitution. I agree, he should be held more accountable for this debacle because he was the one in charge of prosecutions, etc. I say run all these freaks out of Government and start over with a clean slate. This is repulsive. And egla, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. You don't know if his wife wasn't "putting out" or not. It's too bad you're to stupid to see the sick irony of this slap in the face to the people Spitzer has prosecuted and to the American Public as well. But I hear it said that ignorance is bliss. After your comment? You must be very blissful.

Americans have lots of virtues but also a few strange vices...

We claim to be the land of the free, yet so many people are prohibitionists.

Those on the left, want to prohibit guns, big cars, justice ( death penalty for capital murder )

Those on the right want to prohibit women's rights.same sex marriages.

Both sides already prohibit legal prostitution, marijuana, gambling (in some states),betting.

The principal of liberty is do not prohibit anything harmless to u which u don't like.

Liking should not make the law, freedom of choice should be the law...

Ridiculous foolishness. You're like adolescents in the junior high bathroom unable to fathom or articulate yet eager to have something to say and jump on whatever bus is racing by. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again a man in a position of power is let off the hook. Let your average joe be arrested for the same crimes and he'd be lucky to see the outside of the prison walls for a few years. What do we pay the department of justice for? For discretionary use of power obviously. It's time we hold our and I use the term loosley "leaders" accountable for their actions.

I totally agree with S K Green from Missouri. The man is sorrier than slime. His wife, as Sharon from Missouri said, is either nonchalant about the matter or she is just plain stupid. He should be slapped in the face in public. Posted by: mjborland07

This is a national disgrace. The most vulnerable persons involved in the industry, and that is what it is by terms of volume, an industry, are prosecuted and subject to forfieture. Meanwhile the fat cats that keep the business, and pimps afloat in cash are immune from prosecution. In the Alycia Martin case the officers are heard to laugh and joke with Stabenow's spouse about how long it took him to copulate. In an Orwellian - Kafkesque twist Athans is portrayed as a victim of an "evil" woman. Martin is a 20 year old girl who, like most prostituted young persons, needed help. Unfortunately, the police actions speak for themselves. The Spitzer story is just another page in the long chapter of US history. Alycia Martin's blogspot has many links and articles about the proper approach to these issues. It makes many very, very angry to say the least.

As with the crazy drug laws in this country, we criminalize sex. What a foolish policy. You cannot deprive people of sex and drugs (if they really want them). Legalize prostitution and drugs, watch our crime rates fall into the basement. We are sexual beings, we are so busy denying that, it is crazy. What do I care (or why should you care) if someone wants to pay another for sex. Legalize and regulate! MUCH better solution. See

Spitzer should be prosecuted for apparently breaking the law. Let Judge and/or Jury decide. The worst of the two, Garcia should be fired for utterly failing to do his job in a high profile situation. If his boss does not fire him, then his boss should be fired to. It was their job as the DOJ to uphold the integrity of the law in this case. They failed miserably and showed yet again, money and politics is above the law.

What ridiculous anachronistic logic is that guy using? Spitzer's "payment" was loss of a job & status but he was his state's top cop & he doesn't get convicted? Nonsense? Why- because johns are not typically jailed! HELLLOOOOO? Is there a light on ANYWHERE in NYC?????

  • Posted By: opsman @ 11/12/2008 7:58:28 PM

Once again we have seperated men by the amount of money they earn and by political office. Let your average joe on the street be arrested for the same crimes as Mr. Spitzer and the DOJ would hammer his ass to the wall and make an example. Disgusting abuse of power by both Mr. Spitzer and our DOJ. Shame on our Feds, shame shame shame.

  • Posted By: hjfmtex @ 11/12/2008 7:58:14 PM

Spitzer should be prosecuted for apparently breaking the law, as required by law. Garcia, the worst of the two should be fired for complete failure to do his job in a high profile situation. You know he would fire any staff for complete failure to do their job. If Garcia's boss does not fire him, then his boss should be fired to. The Dept. of Justice look like idiots right now.

Spitzer was not prosecuted so that he can run for office down the road. Watch, in a few years he will be running for elected office. The system has failed us. All you need is lots of money and connections and you get special treatment. I wonder if he has been tested for std's. Anyone else would be doing time.

no, most people wouldn't be prosecuted for doing what he did. wow, must feel good commenting on articles without reading them!

Spitzer got off so that he can run for office again down the road. This guy should be in jail for a few months. I wonder if he has been tested for STDs. The system has failed us. A more common person would be doing time.
