Uh excuse me onwisconsis66 hoity-toity finger waggin lecturer: I can't afford to take my pets to the Vets b/c the prices so amazingly inflated - not b/c of the cost for vets to pay for their needs, but to pay back their grad school cost. Additionally Vets have so ridiculously guilted their customers into unnecessary and over-expensive tests and examinations (I never had my dogs tested for heart worms or put them on heart worms, 25 year and 6 dogs later, all have lived 10 years or more and NONE have died from heartworm) that they have only themselves to blame for people not taking their pets to the vets. Would I neglect my pups health? No way! When I am in a crunch they eat before I do. if they have infections, or REAL medical needs I will work out a payment plan with the vets. So before you get so sanctimonious and continue to misdirect your anger (sorry you dog died), put things into perspective.

Pet guardians who love their companion animals do their best to keep their pets healthy.

If you have a pet, you have taken on a responsibility. If you can't handle that responsibility, you don't need to get a pet. It's just that simple. I'm really sorry to sound harsh but these animals deserve to be taken care of and they can't tell us what they need as easily as a child can (provided the child can talk). You don't just stop taking the dog to the vet. You find a way to pay the vet bills. Maybe you give up something in your life that you don't absolutely need. My dog died of cancer that couldn't be treated but I did everything I could to make him more comfortable in the end. That was my responsibility to him. I didn't have a lot of money (I was in grad school) but he didn't die because he wasn't taken care of; he died because of the nature of the cancer. I gave up extras instead of him going without pain meds. You would do so for your children, wouldn't you? A dog/cat is the same level of responsibility.

When you can barely take care of yourself living on SSD and only see the doctor if your sick it's hard to take your pet in for a check-up.Medicare don't pay Vet bills.

Animals that are taken into homes as pets deserve to be treated as a family member and with some priority though surely Kolibri, it isnt their fault the economy is failing.

Pets are fun, but people are more important. If you're having trouble paying bills, Fido might need to step down from table food and Beneful. It's not going to hurt.
