Labrador breeder Diane Ammerman of Mahwah, N.J., has given up manicures and other luxuries and drives only one vehicle, a big van in which to haul her dogs.

"The dogs are better cared for than I am," she says. "If a dog gets sick, I'll rush it to the vet. Me, I get sick, it's no big deal."

Uh excuse me onwisconsis66 hoity-toity finger waggin lecturer: I can't afford to take my pets to the Vets b/c the prices so amazingly inflated - not b/c of the cost for vets to pay for their needs, but to pay back their grad school cost. Additionally Vets have so ridiculously guilted their customers into unnecessary and over-expensive tests and examinations (I never had my dogs tested for heart worms or put them on heart worms, 25 year and 6 dogs later, all have lived 10 years or more and NONE have died from heartworm) that they have only themselves to blame for people not taking their pets to the vets. Would I neglect my pups health? No way! When I am in a crunch they eat before I do. if they have infections, or REAL medical needs I will work out a payment plan with the vets. So before you get so sanctimonious and continue to misdirect your anger (sorry you dog died), put things into perspective.
