I wouldn"t bail Those greedy self serving pigs out, I worked or (slaved) for years for them and got a lousy.50cent raise while they lived in their mansions had numerous vacations yearly and never gave a damn about THE WORKERS so why should the big fat greedy pigs be bailed out, come again , I bet all the workers who wer laid off and making 160.00 a week off of unemployment should happen to them ,what happened they did to theirselves through their GREED GREED GREED!! And now the little piggy cries once again all the way to the bank, I'll never ever buy Dodge Jeep or Chrysler because I've seen how sneaky and greedy they are I wish the IRS would go in and audit all their sneaking, greedy fat wallets!! Ive seen more corruptio their than in POLITICS!!Plus Ive seen how they glue their cars together so the onsumer keeps on coming back again and again and again if only all the recalls were really out ther we wouldnt have so many broke ppeople from over repairing a car that will NEVER be completely fixed!!

The unions have made things progressively worse over the years. The managers of these car companies are overpaid and clearly incompetent. Detroit???s business model has been lacking for many years now, their products are inferior, but yet as a tax payer I have to shell out my hard earned money to bail these jerks out. I think college business students could create a better business model than these overpaid auto managers. They all need to be fired, with no golden parachute packages! Why are the American people going to bail out three companies that make a crappy product? Does anyone see Honda or Toyota looking for bail outs? No. BMW or Porsche? No. Hell even KIA doesn???t need one. The american car makers are over extended and have terrible contracts with the unions which have only assisted in making things worse.

I support the Dems idea of taking it over. Throw out current management. Make a total commitment to nextgen cars for the next 15 years.

Government created the Internet!!!! Government created Brazil's sugar cane ethanol success. It is a lie to say gov't can't help.

    A free market circle jerk.

Keep mileage standards low so that companies will have the wrong product. Horrible government shouldn't be involved!!!

Then, when the company has the wrong product for the market, let it die. Horrible government shouldn't be involved.

Ideology, beloved ideology. Onward friends! Let us ride it to the death!!!

Love the ad for the lexus on my web page article of the problems with Detroit. Reminds me of the small food market in my home town that everybody insisted should stay in business as they went to the big boxes to buy their food. Maybe comments on the big three/gm spectacle should be limited to those who own a gm/chrysler/ford vehicle. Why isn't the discussion about a loan similar to Chrysler's loan in the 80's? I would support government assistance (loan) to GM if they would bring a business plan to the table that shows how they will fix what's wrong.

It makes much more sense to spend 300 billion a year on manufacturing help than on agriculture subsidies

Fire the the top management and the entire board of directors and i might support this. Maybe if these companies spent less money on advertising and lobbying D.C., and more on planning for the future they wouldn't be in this mess. Jeez, i failed Econ 101 and even I saw the enviromental movement coming 10 years ago. Where has the State government been? Oh I forgot, they're getting drunk at the Detroit Athletic Club(DAC) with the auto executives.

NO LOANS ??? BUT DON???T KILL THE HEARTLAND

It depends on HOW a bailout is structured, but one should be attempted.

BAILOUTS ARE COMPLEX BEASTS, but Try something outside the box like this to save the U.S. Auto Industry - - -

    http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/11/solution-for-detroit-gm-friends.html

Toyota and Honda also depend on the same suppliers who feed GM and FORD. No need to let ???Detroit??? disappear.

There is also much creative talent hidden inside the U.S. Big 3 that has been smothered by mismanagement and the UAW.

This is the end of a system that can no longer sustain itself. Having 10% of the world's population consume 75% of the world's resources will only work so long.....and then it's over. The US automakers are so far out of touch (as is this author) that they don't appear to know that off-shore automakers are preparing to sell econo-box cars for less than $10 grand in the global market. Just the battery packs for US "hybrids" are projected to cost $9 grand. Get it? The US automakers are not, and will never be,
competitive. 35-40 years ago the average car cost a small fraction of the average yearly salary and the average home cost about one-two years salary. Now the average car costs almost a year's salary and a home costs 10-20 times the average yearly salary. This is just one example of why things will never be the same in this country. Until leaders (and the media) actually start to name and discuss the reality (it's over) the real solutions (scrap wall-street and that whole system of grifter paraciticism) it will only get worse.

How about letting them go bankrupt, then having the government invest in them? I realize the country cannot withstand having all three of the fail completely at the same time, but just giving them more opportunities to screw up isn't fixing anything, either. Perhaps the bankrupted companies could then be trimmed way back, starting with all the idiot execs. As far as them not being able to recover from bankruptcy, foreign producers can't make enough cars. In the ultimate irony, US makers would have to start at the bottom of the heap and work their way up. I remember a mid-70's Toyota Corolla a friend had, and it was nothing like what is offered today.

Let us listen to the hedge fund masterminds and their media worshipers and allow the auto industry to collapse. After all, the Wall Street genius Ackman probably has already shorted millions of shares of GM and Ford so he will make billions on the collapse. He only has to convince a few Wall Street media suck ups of his belief in the free market to convince them that the end of the auto industry as we know it is a good thing. Just a steak dinner and a few drinks and the reporters from Wall Street will be spouting the hedge fund line tomorrow. Detroit deserves to fail for their own incompetence. Of Course Wall Street was bailed out by one of its own and nobody complained about their incompetence not to mention criminal behavior. Nobody said the market should determine the survival of Wall Street. Let the freedom of the market ring. Let another Wall Street scumbag make a fortune by destroying jobs, families and communities. After all we know how brilliantly they have operated a massive con game which destroyed the world financial system. Listen to them because they know best. Trust their judgement. The jobs , families and communities that will suffer because of this Wall Street brand of capitalism are nothing compared to the contributions of a real hero like Mr. Ackman. After the country is plunged into a severe depression I hope somebody has the good sense to look him up and ask for his opinion. I hope they also have the good sense to exercise their second amendment rights when they meet with him.

Well, We're all screwed, and we're being screwed, by the greedy rich idiots, that have stuffed they're pockets and proclaimed, it's not they're fault. They are the ones that have to now step up to the plate and put in what they've taken = (billions), so our nation can recover. They are the ones that have sold us out, and will continue to, until we're completely broke and no longer know as the world leader. We will be known as a has been third world country. What the hell is wrong with these idiots anyway, how low will they continue to go, all the way to hell, I hope not.! They have all the money to buy the buckets to bail out the boat, but they better hurry up before we all drown. Please, Re-invest in our country, now, before our time runs out.
