A practical solution to this continued senseless killing of women and childrens caught in the intended crossfire-of-rebles vs government soldiers, lie in what may seem far-featched; however, the truth is, is that, send an impartial "private military security firm" with men of war, recent released ex-con's (prisoner's), ex-vets who are homeless throughout the street of america, gang members and lead by well skilled leaders. This would solve the homeless problem on our street, give ex-cons a real chance to redeem themselves and offer ex-vets a chance to utilize the former training for a worthy cause. Most important, this private security group could serve as a "protection force" at refugee camps'. Just thinking out loud...

What happen in Congo it's a shame. 38 years ago 1 zaire was equivalent of 2 dollars. First bomb was made with congolese uranium, first productor of colbat , gold etc.. Rwanda genocide was an excuse to invade Congo for its ressource. Most the multinationation companies are located now in Rwanda. They (US, UK, Canada, France, China etc.)use Rwanda to destabilize Congo in order to use freely all minerals.

Congo is also hell on earth for majestic endangered species including gorillas, bonobos, chimps and hippos that are being ruthlessly massacred..

And this is not the only one of Obamas worries. In a brilliant article in todays BELMONT CLUB by Richard Fernandez, he likens not merely American special interests from the liberal-left,but those of other nations, especially Africa, who are holding these ''checks of hope'',that they are going to demand Obama cash on Inauguration Day and soon thereafter.
The economic crisis will be the first 800 pd.gorilla. The Congress is utterly helpless to get its hands around the problem as is both Bush and Obama and his team. The second will be the fury evidenced by these ''hopeful'' nations that will feel that they were left holding an emotional bag that will descend into open and expanding warfare upon not garnering that which was promised by the Expected One,providing the entrance of yet another of these gorillas. Djibouti,Congo,Sudan,Eritria,Somalia,Chad,Ethiopia, the Gold Coast,Rwanda[again],Mozambique, even Kenya, and other Saharan and sub-Saharan nations are going to descend into chaos, based upon hoping for too much. Expecting miracles that will go unprovided. There will simply be no money for the diplomacy, humanitarian effort and yes, even as Fernandez put it,out and out ''bribery'' that will be required to forstall the coming and already existing carnage. Africa will return to its place as the orphan of the world.

The world is watching this conflict unfold into another genocide--gut feelings say it will happen. Congolese people are very peaceful people but there's a time when that won't stand given the suffering of people we see from reporters on the ground. Somebody has to tell Nkunda that he'll be held responsible for what might happen to the community he's claiming to be protecting. We've lived with tutsi for so long without any major incidence like what happened inn Rwanda.

I also agree with one of the previous posts, UN is useless and has no place to be in Congo. How in the world can they be burning 1 billion dollars to not have their presence felt?

Congo government is also to blame here. These guys have been running the country carelessly. Even an amateur politician knows that the army is the fondamental pillar of any government that wants to stay in power. In fact, there's a say "he who wants peace prepares for war". It has not done that! The whole crew looks for what they can grab. How can a government whose country is at war lets army officers embezzle war funds and not prosecute them? Seriously! That's supposed to be a treason offence. Because everyone knows that that's what everyone does. It was painful to read that the president of the national assembly, when questioned about a luxurious hotel he allegedly owns, responded by pointing out that he can name a general who's been cashing in salaries of soldiers for the last 10 years!! What this all tells about the kind of people who run the country? No wonder the international community has turned its back to Congo. But it's a mistake because it's the innocent people who are suffering.

Re: Congo and Africa in general....Isn't it nice to see how worthless a body the UN is? What a waste of time, money and space...kick them out of the USA!

Unfortunately the continuing global (economic) meltdown trumps the problems of the Congo. We will pay for this oversight for years to come.
