The most organized hate groups in American - the religions (Catholics, Mormons, Evangelicals) work constantly to take away rights of those who don't agree. It's their way or the highway. For some reason, this "G-dly" just can't live and let live. Thankfully, they and their ilk have lost the White House. They have done enough harm to our country. Unfortunately, they still trot on.

The world is moving forward worrying about real problems - economy, war, etc. which by the way was caused by this crowd having the ear of a president who speaks to Jesus. These trivial issues will be overturned so that everyone has the same rights eventually and the immoral minority will be put in their place - which is in their church and not at the ballot box.

I sure feel sorry for all the black men who want to marry their black man (or white or hispanic or another other race) and for the black women who want to marry their black woman (or white or hispanic or another other race), as the black race is not behind you. What a shame to all that are of the black race and not supporting the civil rights movement of today, that you are being the same bigots, segregationists, and civil rights supressionists that the white man was to you. Don't join our churches, don't marry who you would like, don't come in our schools to teach and learn, be beaten by those that hate you, don't speak about yourself, sure sounds allot like what you fought for some years ago, freedom to be who you are.....

Comparing gay people to the struggles of the African-Americans throughout America's early history is an abomination and show how narcissistic people are. After all, it was californiaright's descendants that forcefully captured and enslaved many of the Africans and brought them here to America. White America should be the last people to diminish the struggles of African-Americans. Shame on you.

I'm not completely sure how making a valid and rational comparison (the deprivation of the civil rights of two groups of human beings) is an abomination? Sounds like logic to me.

Same-sex marriage is very different than inter-racial marriage and trying to conflate the two only serves to trivialize what many minorities, but especially blacks, have endured over the long history of our nation.

oh dear. i am reading these comments and i am just so sad. why do humans have to be like this to each other? tell me what, exactly, is so infuriating about 2 consenting adults who want to get married? and why is being gay considered just a footstep away from other things like polygamy or having sex with animals? i don't get the connection. what if you were gay--wouldn't you want to be able to get married? look at history. look at social anthropology. try and realize when culture takes over and free thinking gets squashed. people say, how would letting gay people marry improve society? how would it hurt it? it's a win-win--no hurt, and happiness for the people who get to be married.

    cont.
The thing that perplexes me the most is why is it so important for people to regulate other people???s feelings, and the expression thereof. It seems as though people have forgotten the original intention of marriage, to love and honor each other. To support one another, care for one another. Shouldn???t a responsible society provide freedoms for all of its people? To allow people to be happy and loved, and celebrate that love in their own right, regardless of their sexuality. It???s a shame that these misguided bigots believe that everyone should have to abide by how they want other people to live. And it???s a shame that such hatred and bigotry is so popularized by politicians and clergy men for their own personal gain. It is easy to motivate people by fear and hatred. When people are angry or scared, they often ask few questions, and take even less time to think.
Homosexuals as well as heterosexuals pay taxes. These taxes go towards a number of things, as well as providing the salaries of state and federal officials. My wife and I were married by the Justice of the Peace. His salary is paid by my tax dollars, and one of the services he provides for the citizens is to marry people. I do not believe that the Justice of the Peace should be allowed to deny a couple this paid service based solely on the discrimination of their sexuality. I am surprised that I have not heard any court cases arguing this point.
I think it is fantastic that there are protests across the nation. The people of this country deserve to have their rights, and their being, respected. I truly hope someday we will be able to look on this time period as a period of awakening. That love triumphed over hatred, acceptance and respect over bigotry. I hope the people that march for their civil rights know that I support them, as well as my family and their values.

I live in Texas where this is a very hot issue. I am in favor of gay rights, as well as gay marriage, but listen to opposing opinions on this subject. The argument made against gay marriage is the ???sanctity of marriage??? statement. The irony is that people making this argument have often been married and divorced several times in heterosexual relationships. I do not understand how this doesn???t destroy the sanctity of marriage as well. If I press this question or issue, then the people I am speaking with often become uncomfortable, an early sign of the level of Bigotry that the posses in their heats. They legitimize this with the ???God???s Will??? argument, which is unfortunate at best. I do not believe that God would posses such bigotry or hatred of his children. So long as no harm is done to any of his children, I find it absurd that He would be so strongly against the expression of love. Regardless if it is between a man and woman, man and man, or woman and woman.
Another issue people seem to have with gay marriage is that it would legitimize the relationship. People seem to think that homosexuality is a choice, which is bizarre in my opinion. I have always been heterosexual, and cannot remember a time in my life when I made that choice. I have always been that way. I did not choose to be heterosexual; nor did I choose not to be homosexual. I just am the way I am. I most certainly would not want some simpleminded bigot to tell me I was wrong for who I was.
Some people also seem to view homosexuality as a communicable disease. If homosexuals were allowed to marry, then they would be out in the streets celebrating their love freely. Then our children might walk past and ???catch the gay???. This is ridiculous. I am no more straight because of who I was raised by than someone is gay because of who they were. Someone who is gay is no more likely to be influenced and driven into a life of heterosexual abandon by being around heterosexual friends than the likely hood of the opposite is to happen.

why do people care about something 2 other people do that only involves those 2 people, especially when it is love? i really really don't understand why, when something is out of love, another person would want to prohibit that. i can only assume that people against gay marriage are not bright, not very well educated, and unable to think enough for themselves that they need a god to tell them how to think. *sadly shakes head*

The people have spoken. Like a wildfire out of control. The subject of same sex marriage is a subject of religion and the marriage of church and state is illegal. The first amendment prohibits it. Thefore you cannot vote on the subject of religion.
The Bible says a lot of things. It has been adapted over the years. It forbids divorce. It abhors murder. It preaches that revenge is the lord's, and it preaches forgiveness. It might have originally said "two people" or something like that. Perhaps it should.
The California Bar association is behind the ballot measure. They are uncomfortable whith the prospect of a gay man marrying his cell mate. After all, the straight prisoner cannot actually live with his spouse but he can marry. Hell, a straight murderer can marry. But not a gay person. Or a church and a state.
The subject of bob and mary be coming man and wife is a matter of the church. Is the question of bob and bob? Before you answer that, consider that if it is not but has been made an issue by the prohibition of an act that remains a religious and legal right for bob and mary. Therefore it should legally be prohibited to be acted upon by a vote to the people by the Bar association or the judge who allowed the actions, by virtue of the first amendment.

Everyone is entitled to equal rights by VIRTUE of the fact they are HUMAN BEINGS -- CREATED BY GOD (NOT by CHANCE or CHOICE) -- Male and Female HE CREATED THEM. Rights should not be granted or denied based on any other quality, such as sexual orientation. Gay right activists would be wise to pursue this avenue of logic vs. trying to define themselves deserving the same rights and privleges of heterosexual married couples - the two types of relationships are not and will never be the same. ALL the Christians out there who are familar with the Bible (and I mean by actual and factual study) should be able to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was incarnated to show us how to LOVE ONE ANOTHER (agape) and did so by breaking through the social, ethnic and gender structures, associating with and validating ALL peoples. He did NOT, however, validate sin - INCLUDING ALL TYPES OF SEXUAL SIN - but rather implored us to acknowledge our sin and weaknesses, take up our cross, and follow Him (Mt.11:30) Amen

    • Posted By: Wild Clover @ 11/16/2008 4:06:42 AM

I agree, rights should not be conveyed due to sexual orientation. Therefore I submit that the government should grant no special rights to heterosexuals, such as the recognition of a sacred religious term like marrige. Instead, grant rights to couples or groups raising children to ensure the stability and safety of the kids. You get married in your church, I'll get married in mine, and the government need notrecognize either. If there are kids, a "family contract" should be registered, granting those rights and priveledges now reserved to marrige that directly relate to the children's well being before the age of 18.

Simple solution, throwing millions of divorce lawyers out of work.

Please stop equating being Black, which is a pigment/etc. thing with being sexually active in a homoerotic which is a behaviour thing. It is an insult to humanity to equate these two things as equal.
If a person feel homosexual urges they can control them; perhaps it is nature's way of letting them know that there is a different calling for them to do in this world. Call a group called Courage for one, and I'm sure there are others who can help in this regard.
NOW----if I'm understanding correctly, no less than nearly 50 million dollars was spent trying to force something in to being that can never really be. In the name of TRUE LOVE wouldn't that money have been far better spent sending it to Haiti or another poverty struck place to put in wells, give food and gardening implements, etc.??? Love. It has a real meaning. It is always a sacrificial thing. Always!! Don't settle for less.

    • Posted By: Wild Clover @ 11/16/2008 3:34:49 AM

Just as heteroerotic behavior is a behavior thing which can be controlled. Now, as to what you find attractive, that is not behavior but rather mind and emotion. I would no more ask you to not love someone you felt worthy of love and desire than ask you to remain celebate for your lifetime. Why do you think you can tell a gay man or woman that their choice is to not love or to be celibate? Oh yes, they can marry an opposite sex person, but with no desire, there is no more marrige than someone has with their best friend. Why spend so much money to fight prop 8? Ask the Mormons and Catholics and Knights of Columbus why THEY spent nearly twice as much to pass it. Wouldn't the money have been better spent sending it to Haiti? Love. It is always a sacrificial thing. True love is mutually sacrificial, with both parties sacrificing for the other's happiness. True love of your neighbors would have had you spend the money to ensure they had all the rights and protections for their families that heterosexuals get for free through marrige. True love would have meant sacrificing your petty sensibilities and not caring if gays called it marrige and ignoring it from the start. If prop 8 had never been, just think, countless hours of canvassers that could have done good works in the community, and 130 million for Haiti. Your folks decided to fight a court decision with money and an army of Mormon foot soldiers-the perfect soldier, trained going door to door, follows orders blindly. All the gays did was try and fight back to keep protections for their families. Sounds like taking the No folks to task for wasing money is a rather dishonest arguement to me. I'm sure everyone who donated time or money to No on 8 had better uses for both. They sacrificed to fight for what they loved. The Yes folks sacrificed to do what they wanted, which isn't a sacrifice. Who has love now?

People are born black. People are born gay. By your ridiculous logic, being born black would have been a calling to do something different, something that didn't involve civil rights. There was a nation of slave owners that would have agreed with you on that one. Luckily, the nation was smarter than people like them (and you).

Actually science will make this issue moot. As soon as genetic engineering advances to the point where parents have the choice to make certain in utero whether their child will be homosexual or heterosexual, homosexuals will for all intents and purposes cease to exist in those societies where advanced medicine is practiced. No heterosexual couple would choose to have a homosexual child.

    • Posted By: sfdukester @ 11/16/2008 3:06:09 AM

And how will advanced science "correct" this? Some genetic modification or are we talking terminating the pregnancy? Think this through. My guess (and only a guess) is that you consider yourself a Christian with strong values. hmmmmm.....wouldn't that eliminate the possibility of genetically altering because God doesn't make mistakes......and as a devote Christian - doesn't life begin at conception - so terminating the pregnancy (abortion) would be a sin as well.......

    • Posted By: Cohen03 @ 11/16/2008 2:13:51 AM

Wow, you are a horrible person. Also, homosexuality isn't fully genetic so you fail. And just to spite you, if it were, I would genetically engineer my children to be homosexual.

California did not ban ???gay marriage???, it banned ???same sex marriage???. The CaSupCt far exceeded the scope of litigation before it in ordering SSM. Lesbians and gays demanded marriage, but the SupCt made an overly expansive order for SSM regardless of sexuality, because N.O.W. litigated for SSM using gays as props.

SSM drastically impacts and harms heterosexual marriage because any two women can, by choice, take over the entire institution of marriage, childrearing, and family, and have at least six sources of income to do it with (their incomes, at least two sets of child support orders, and two sets of welfare entitlements).

    This is

    why N.O.W. argued for it.

Gay marriage and SSM are two entirely different issues, with two entirely different scopes of legal meaning. The issue does not revolve around gays and lesbians ??? it is whether or not America will hand the entire institution of marriage over to radical feminists regardless of sexual orientation.

SSM cannot be constitutional for the following reason:

    ???Heterosexual marriage is the only institution that fully erases all physical, economic, social, and culturally-imposed differences between women and men. It is the only institution that harnesses the entire human race to work hard together and raise children in prosocial manner. It is the only institution that naturally assures everyone equal rights of every description regardless of race, sex, or creed. Same-sex marriage is the polar antithesis of equality because it maximizes every tangible disparity that exists between women and men.??? (cite: David R. Usher;

Is it just me or did that not make a lick of sense at all?

      • Posted By: Wild Clover @ 11/16/2008 2:51:01 AM

It made little sense to me. However, I would like him to let me in on the scam that would allow me and the wife to collect double welfare and child support on an individual child. ^ incomes sound a lot better than the two we have, with the assist from the little one's SSI--he has Down Syndrome. Being Bi, and having had a husband, I will also state that marrige did nothing to erase our physical differences, nor in many marriges(the one's the proponents of "traditional" marrige like) the woman is completely subjugated to the will of her husband, so I don't see heterosexual marrige ensuring equal rights on the basis of sex. I'm going to stop dissecting now because the ignorance is hurting my head.

      • Posted By: Wild Clover @ 11/16/2008 2:42:24 AM

Not just you. I think someone is skeered of the baaad lesbian feminist mafia. I dunno, I'd love 6 incomes myself for the wife and I to raise our two sons, but we make do with our two, and the youngest gets SSI for DS. No LEGAL couple gets double child support or double welfare payments. Actually, we made out better for income based services precisely because we were not married legally, and so my income did not count.

Cohen03, What do you consider the driving force for gay marriage, i.e. what significant impact does it have on the individual? How does our society improve as a result? Is it just the easiest way for all partners to get the same benefits or is there something more profound to the movement?

  • Posted By: Lleah @ 11/15/2008 10:32:35 PM

This is not about interracial marriage. Also, please keep in mind the Loving case was about a man and a woman, not two people of the same gender.

It is very unwise to try to make this a civil rights issue because it only serves to alienate the people who have truly been discriminated against in this country. Those who have suffered unmentionable atrocities because of the color of their skin, something that they cannot change or keep a private matter. Being gay is a lifestyle, not a matter of birth, as such they are not a minority group. Furthermore, they currently have all the rights of married people, they just want to be called "married", which has been defined by God as between a man and a woman, not between two human beings. It doesn't matter if you don't believe in God because he established what marriage is, who can be married, and the purposes for which marriage was established. Anyone that wants to exercise their own will to change that is not being respectful to God, and that is never a good idea.

GET AWAY FROM 'THE GOD THING'. WE DO NOT LOOK TO THE BIBLE TO DETERMINE OUR RIGHTS. WE LOOK TO THE CONSTITUTION. AGAIN, FOR YOU POOR, ILLITERATE, CHRISTIAN BIGOTS: IT'S THE CONSTITUTION THAT RULES, NOT THE OLD BIBLE; NOT THE NEW BIBLE. YOUR BRAIN IS LOP-SIDED.PROP IT UP WITH YOUR BIBLE.

What the author of this article fails to mention is that although a lot of money was donated to the Yes on 8 campaign, there was even more money donated to the No on 8 campaign. And it was donated by high profile individuals such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas and just about every other Hollywood mover and shaker. But not just the entertainment powers were involved, but Larry Page and Sergey Brin (the co-founders of Google) donated money, as did AT&T, PG&E and several other large corporations. To say that Yes on 8 prevailed because Mormons and the Knights of Colombus donated money to the cause is really just ignorant. The Yes on 8 campaign succeeded because the people of the State of California wanted to define marriage as it always has been defined, between a man and a woman.

    1 of 2:

The societies of America have drastically changed over the years. When I was a child, America was considered a "great nation" that most other countries truly respected because for its democracy, freedoms, and its firm and just stance on various aspects of life....one being the right to it. Another was America's concern and willingness to help those less fortunate than we. In addition to these, America was highly regarded due to its firm and strong stance against injustice, immorality, and various rebellious and wicked behaviors that ought not to be done. Our founding fathers took great issue with these evils, so much so, that they entailed the abstention from them in our founding documents.

The article above describes a situation from 1967 involving Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, an interracial couple, who was charged with a felony for being married to each other. Now I want to firmly state that I think this is completely wrong and without justification, as they were two humans created in the image of Almighty God, who chose to come together and become "one flesh" as the Lord Himself had planned from the beginning for all mankind.

What needs to be understood is this VERY important factual difference that we must not overlook........Richard is male and Mildred is female. This is of the utmost importance because of one undeniable fact:

The reproductive organs of a male are only compatible with those of a female. To clarify??????the reproductive organs of a male ARE NOT compatible with those of another male, nor are those of a female compatible with another female. This is against the natural order of humankind and consequently "unnatural" and there is absolutely no room for justification in this matter.

A white man and a black woman can reproduce and bring forth children, because God designed us that way. A black man and a chinese woman can reproduce and bring forth children also. To be correct, ALL nationalities and races of people can procreate with one another, and bring forth children. This however, IS NOT THE CASE with homosexuals because they are not compatible with each other as is undoubtedly obvious.

I want to make it perfectly clear that God???s Word in the Bible states that homosexuality is SIN. It should be know that this sin and all other sins including lying, stealing, blaspheming God???s Holy Name, adultery, fornication, hatred, murder, etc. will all bring the Lord???s judgment against you when you stand before Him on judgment day.

But there is one message that puts the entire SIN problem to rest and that is the message of the gospel of God???s only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. It must be understood that the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has to bring forth His judgment against our sins, His holiness demands it! However, He loves you and me and all of His creation so very much, that He decided to make a way for us to return to him and find forgivenes

  • Posted By: WatchmansWarning @ 11/16/2008 2:08:56 AM

    2 of 2:

Instead of placing all the judgment for our sins upon us (which we rightfully deserve), He gave His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be the perfect sacrifice in our place. Three days later following Jesus??? crucifixion, He rose from the dead and defeated death, and subsequently paid the price for the sins of all those who would come to him in sincere repentance and humility.

Because of His death and resurrection, those who REPENT of (turn from) sin, and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, are given a new heart and a new spirit that seeks to please the Lord, and are granted eternal life. Those who reject this most precious gift of forgiveness will be left with all of their life???s sins still unpaid for, and still hanging over them. That will eventually lead to eternity in the Lake of Fire. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would reject this most gracious gift of forgiveness, and choose to be found GUILTY.

I must repeat the fact that God???s Holiness DEMANDS judgment against sin, and the only way of forgiveness is through the ONE and only substitute that God provided, and that is His own Son, JESUS!

Apart from Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, there is NO HOPE whatsoever.

The Lord has called me as a watchman to give people warning. I truly hope that you will take heed to what I have said, but you should know that if you still continue to reject the Lord???s forgiveness, when you stand before Him at your judgment, you will never be able to say that you didn???t know because I???ve just told you.

The title for the Newsweek article is ???The Loving Decision???.

It should be noted however, that The Loving Decision was truly made by the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross, when He gave up His life for sinners like you and me.
