Gitmo should not be closed. I agree that the prisoners should be released but not to its closure. Its a perfect place to hold the members of the Bush team as they awiat their trials for war crimes.

Good idea...but no, that would be as wrong as they are. Just keep them in a nice privatized "for profit" state prison where they serve gorp at every meal.
what a load of phony "blue ribbon" nonsense. BUT, at least if they're in power, the democrats will not be able to treat the country as the enemy and try to destroy us from within, like they've been doing for the last eight years
The outrageous behavior of the bush presidency has to be rejected publicly. As an example of the dangerous men is a 17 year-old boy who threw a grenade at a couple of soldiers guarding a translator. This level of danger is reached in every city in the USA. Barak has to show sanity has returned to the American leadership, or world opinion will continue to be bad and justified.
That 17 year old could have been shot and killed by those soldiers as they have the right to defend themselves. I don't know of any US city that deals with 17 years old throwing grenades at police officers or that every US city deals with this level of danger daily. What size "city" are you talking about? What is their population? So this 17 year old should just had been released? Is that what your city does to dangerous people? Just live and let live? Grow up.
This is a country of laws. We have a constitution. Follow our constitution and follow our laws. This whole episode has fallen to the depths of a lynching, orchestrated by an administration that should have known better. But, they didn't, much to the disgrace of a country that previously argued for democracies governed by constitutions and the laws emanating therefrom.
If the Guantanamo episode represents democracy, then we should not be trying to spread it around the globe like a deadly flu virus.
You may be older but you aren't wiser and you surely don't know what a lynching is.
Re: "The hardest decision will be whether to release the scores of apparently dangerous detainees who cannot be convicted of crimes???or to continue holding them without charges in American lockups. "
What happened to Prisoner of War status? It is an internationally recognized status with defined rights. If G.W. Bush can be a "War President" these folks can darn well be "Prisoners of War."
According to Devvy Kidd, "Why A Bankrupt America?" The Federal Reserve pays the Bureau of Engraving & Printing approximately $23 for each 1,000 notes printed. 10,000 $100 notes (one million dollars) would thus cost the Federal Reserve $230. They then secure a pledge of collateral equal to the face value from the U.S. government. The collateral is our land, labor, and assets... collected by their agents, the IRS. By authorizing the Fed to regulate and create money (and thus inflation), Congress gave private banks power to create profits at will. End the FED
The tough choice is: is Barack Obama in favor of human rights or is he against them?
Henry Paulson is not going to be the new treasury secretary as of Jan 20 according to his interview on MSNBC. So he takes 700 billion from the public and gives it to the banks and leaves the public holding a huge debt in addition to there already huge debt to the banks in the first place brought on by housing inflation generated by there failed interest rate and lending practices. Win win for the banks and big buisness loose loose for the average person.
Your ignorance is breathtaking. The "failed lending practices" that you mention were enforced on the banks by an out of control federal government in the guise of the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 (Jimmy Carter and the Democrats, of course).
Jimmy Carter, George Bush are buddies at the grove in San Fransico. Clinton was so embarrassed when some one brought it up in front of a crowd he about lost his composure. The elite are a fine group of gentelmen who like to get together and do unholy acts of conduct males with males worshiping an Idol of an owl they call Molech making fake human sacrifices. Wink wink it's nice to know they have the launch codes for the nuclear weapons.
So what are you smoking, and where can I get some?
it really is a tough call but them again gitmo itself was a tough call and some people made it. Now we need new action to remove it and do something more transparent, and I trust that Obama and his team can do it.. they are competent people in that cabinet! www.spinwhip.com/obama
I completely agree with Doc. This is total crap. Closing Guantanamo is not a tough notion to anyone with a brain.
But what do we do with all those terrorists?
Easy. Send them home! And hold their governments accountable for their actions. Have you ever seen the inside of an Egyptian prison? Send these terrorists back to their own countries, and tell the heads of their governments either put them in prison or we will hold them accountable for any further actions these people take.
Case closed. It's that simple.
find out where they're from, put them on a military plane back to that country and have their governments throw them in their own jails.
Now will people please stop complaining about how tough this is. Next problem?
Your so-called simple solution is anything but. The US cannot force another country to detain someone in their prison system just because we said to do so "or else". Well, what is the "what else", Einstein?
"whether to release or continue detaining those who do appear to be dangerous but cannot be tried"
Oh, that's awesome. But why stop with terrorists? Why not detain anyone who looks "dangerous", and then hold them because "they cannot be tried".
