And Jeebus rode around on a dinosaur. Puh-LEEEEZE. That headline was intended to stir up trouble and looks like it did the job. What an irresponsible thing to do, give these nutjob fanatics a legitimate outlet for spewing their craziness.

People actually do bulieve that Obama is the anti-Christ, wrongly as Reagan it was Reagan, but anyone who appears to be able to solve the world's problems peacefully from now on will be suspect. I just hope that the outcome of this article is a follow-up article on the true light of the world.

Newweek should be ashamed for publishing this tripe.

I thank Lisa Miller for producing a very unbiased article just giving the facts about what some people believe. She is not condoning these beliefs nor is she trashing them, she is just presenting them. It doesn't matter if the beliefs are mainstream or even crazy, the fact of the matter is that some people believe this stuff. Period. There is no need for personal attacks on her, she is just doing her job.

    • Posted By: real-vermonter @ 11/18/2008 7:01:41 PM

I disagree that the article is presented as "what others believe." That would not bother me at all. This article does not come across that way....it is not good journalism, in my opinion.

In His Book "In The Light of Truth - The Grail Message" AbdRuShin has told us how to lidentify the antichrist. Let everyone who is in frenzy about the antichrist examine the book and get what he/she needs. The book is in three volumes and the Author admonishes that only serious seekers can find value in it. So if you are a serious seeker of the Truth and you want to know who is the antichrist and how to identify him, my advise is for you to look for the book and study it. Your knowledge and understanding about life will improve. Obama is not the Anti Christ.

there are people wondering and staying on the issue if Obama is really the anti-christ. we have to turn to God and there we will see the truth and the answer he wants you and myself to hear. God doesn't want me and you to worry but to pray that his will be done. Trust me Jesus is real and he is coming for the bride meaning for his people and only the people who is faithful to Jesus. Are you ready because here he comes.

Keep watching. Bring a book, you'll need something to do. Has 2,000 years of this idiocy taught you nothing. There is one thing that all of you nuts have in common is that you are very persistant and don't seem to learn from experience. How many more times are you going to go to the mountain tops waiting for you imaginary friends to come from the sky and save the earth. Come on folks, we have a large amount of gray matter between our ears and we could solve our problems using logic and reason if we would only leave the irrational ways of diety worship behind. The death and destruction that as been foisted on mankind in the name of the gods is unnecessary. Ignore the gods. Their egos seem legion and they ask their worshipers to do "unkind" deeds. Many children have their imaginary friends. Just as a young person enters adulthood without his imaginary friends, so humankind shoud mature to the level of demanding that logic and reason be the tools we use to solve the problems we face.

So "Watcher on the Wall", keep sitting if you want, but there's a lot of work to do and we could use a hand.

Religion is the best excuse for staying ignorant. I wonder what these folks would think if they knew this same genre of religion has been repeated throughout history - they all have an approximate run of 2500 years. I call it laziness, both intellectually and spiritually. Also I think it's a crutch, like a security blanket, for folks who can't face reality.

If all of you find this article so ridiculous, why didn't you find all the the support for Obama and tearing down of Mccain and Palin a crime and not true journalism through ALL of mainstream-news-media. Hmm... I see, you are all just as biased and racists as you claim other people to be. You hypocrites.

Not only that, but you show such outward hatred and anger towards Christians for believing in the Bible and yet call Christians haters. You are like the opposers to Prop 8 in California who are making death threats to Christians and churches, valdalizing, and openly beating Christians for opposing gay marriage. But, you'll never see that on main stream media, because it will reveal how full of hypocrisy these people are for claiming "hatred from Christians" but themselves showing RAGE for those who oppose them. I hope you all can see past your little television and computer screen to see what's REALLY happening in the world today...

We are to love the sinner, but hate the sin. And when it comes to morals...
If good people do nothing, evil will flourish. Yes, we are to love everyone,
but in government standards have to be set with upright values established...
Obama is too light on the moral issues regarding abortion, gay rights, etc... Read the Bible, and find out how God deals with a Nation that's too loose.

    • Posted By: hsggwk @ 11/17/2008 10:44:34 PM

What's really loose is that nut in your brain. Please screw it tightly back on.

The trouble when people stop believing in God is not that they thereafter believe in nothing. It is that they thereafter believe in anything

      • Posted By: hardcorepops @ 11/18/2008 4:45:37 PM

Hey, nutjob-- you do not have to believe in God to have morals or ethics. People-- rational, thinking, intelligent people-- believe in evolution, the importance of hard work, and helpiing your neighbor. The list goes on. Some of us would prefer not to live our lives in fear of something that has never been proven to exist. Some of us would prefer to do good in this lifetime simply because we want to do good; not because we are afraid of "God's wrath." Seems a bit more sincere that way, doesn't?

        • Posted By: maryvogt @ 11/18/2008 6:24:40 PM

I am so sick of people looking startled when I say I'm an atheist - since I do a lot of volunteer work they assume I'm religious... which is funny because most of us in the nonprofit I work for are not religious types. Just good people. I agree with everything you've said. Sincere, indeed, to be a good person because you want to create good around you.

      • Posted By: maryvogt @ 11/18/2008 3:50:40 PM

How about keeping your own beliefs to yourself, like Jesus said you should? Remember the praying in private and the like? Hmmmm?

    • Posted By: Esther8.1 @ 11/18/2008 4:20:15 PM

I really hate that for you that your concern is not your salvation but that you want stuff....so who and what is that you worship? Obama is not the anti-christ but the anti-christ's spirit is alive and well here in the US....I think the more important question isn't who is the anti-christ but how to make peace with God. While there are radicals in any and every group....it is important to recognize we all stand before God someday and answer for our faith or lack of....I never recommend that people take my word on matters dealing with God but in order to confirm or deny to yourself...you should start with God's word which is the bible. Just read it...and pray with an open mind and heart for God to tell you what is right and good.

BTW....Todd never said that Obama was the anti-christ....check out his website if you really want to see what Christians stand for.

      • Posted By: maryvogt @ 11/18/2008 6:22:37 PM

I had 12 years of Catholic school so a sound background in theology. I did a lot of study and work to get to where I am now (atheist). I don't need a god, and Christians have not cornered the market on good behavior. I'm just good because I want to be. Maybe you should read something else besides the bible so you realize how ignorant you sound.

  • Posted By: Mandalaina @ 11/15/2008 10:36:42 PM

This is dangerous. I fear the Christians far, far more than the schizophrenic next door. He knows he's ill and takes his medicine--the Christians don't. Christianity has killed and enslaved people (read South American/Caribbean history) all over the world. And THEY have the absolute NERVE to keep us in fear with that "antichrist" business? I'm not an atheist, but I know fear tactics and a con when I see it.

    • Posted By: ChristianGal @ 11/16/2008 10:58:11 AM

Better to spend your time fearing God! Fear tactics and cons are the work of evil not of Christians!

      • Posted By: jawill11 @ 11/18/2008 5:44:16 PM

If fear tactics are the work of evil, and you say that we should fear god, then does that make god evil?

    • Posted By: bethtopaz @ 11/17/2008 12:49:59 AM

Mandalaina, You say you're an athiest. If you do believe that there is a superior being or a higher power, as many people do, then simply ask your Higher Power to show you the truth. But don't let other people or past events stand between you and that truth.

The truth of God is like the Law of Gravity. You may not like the Law of Gravity and you may even say that you don't believe in it. But if you jump out of a window in a 20-story building, the Law of Gravity will take effect and you will probably die upon impact.

I recommend that you pick up an excellent book by C.S. Lewis called "Mere Christianity." C.S. Lewis was an athiest who went about to prove that there was no God and ended up becoming a Christian. He was a professor at Oxford University in England. I really think you will enjoy the book.

But, please, for your own sake, don't let the fear of Christians or Christianity now or in history, keep you from knowing the truth.

Jesus promised that if you seek the truth, you will find it, and the truth will set you free.

Mandalaina, It's your soul and your eternity we're talking about. Jesus loves you and wants you to be with Him forever.

I have a neighbor who thinks I'm the anti-Christ. Can Ms. Miller write a feature about me? This is the first time I can recall thinking that Newsweek is down there in the dirt with the National Inquirer. Maybe Lisa Miller should apply for a job there, as long as she's willing to accept a psychological evaluation.

    Can anyone say "Satan"?

As a Christian American, it scares me to think people might believe these views to be anything like as mine. Nothing you speak in any way represents the beliefs or values that I was taught, either as a Christian nor as an American. Of all the fear-pandering, paranoia-propagating nonsense I've ever seen spewn by cretins, this is sickening!

I am disgusted that a publication I respect is even discussing something so completely assinine. Should we also debate whether or not the earth is flat? I'm sure I could find a 2,000 year-old book that says it's flat. Should we believe the book just because it's old?

    • Posted By: bcch99 @ 11/15/2008 11:46:32 PM

God's word is true and the bible is the inerrant word of God. He loves you so much that he sent his son to die for you. If you were the only person to have ever lived, he would have still come and died just for you! That is so amazing!

      • Posted By: epryor @ 11/16/2008 12:17:00 AM

You think the Bible is inerrant? Just read the first 2 chapters and you will find 2 different versions of the Creation. One in which G-d creates the world in 7 days and on the 7th day he creates man and woman together with no names given. Then right behind this version there is another version in which the man and woman are named (Adam and Eve). In this version Adam is created, gets bored, so G-d puts him to sleep and creates Eve from his rib. All the things created in both versions conflict with each other, so either one has to be right or the other. The Jews used to believe that the woman in the first story where the woman who wasn't named refused to submit to Adam and was turned into a demon named Lillith. This Lillith creature would kill male babies when they were sleep (sudden infant death syndrome). They would put an amulet with the names of 3 angels on their babies to protect them from Lillith. Interestingly, Lillith also would force men to copulate with her in their sleep (nocturnal emissions). to There are other errors like this one throughout the Bible and they are called "Doublets". The flood story also has 2 conflicting versions. Also consider that the Old and New Testaments are in direct conflict with one another. G-d had an everlasting covenant with the Isrealites-- No human sacrifice needed as long as they obeyed G-d's law. Why shoud this covenant be broken because of the birth of Jesus?

        • Posted By: 1virtuouswoman @ 11/18/2008 4:05:27 PM

          Hi, Mr or Ms. Pryor,
I'm suprised no one replied to your comment but I felt compelled to do so. Those are two different versions in Genesis. All throughout the Bible the writers used a style of writing whereby they would start off telling about something in general terms and then go on to repeat the same telling of events, this time being more specific. That's what you see happening in Genesis when it talks about man and woman being created. The other reference you made was to animal sacrifice vs. human sacrifice (Old Testament vs New Testament) The Old Testament is full of examples of how the animal sacrifice they were required to do to erase (or cover) their sins, was "symbolic" of what God was going to do eventually through His Son, Jesus Christ. Once He sent His Son to die for our sins, there was no longer any need to do animal sacrifice. The whole point of this was to show us that there really is NOTHING we can do, in and of ourselves to rid ourselves of this sin nature. Only Christ, who was spotless, can cover our sins, with His blood. So, now, rather than repeatedly sacrifice animals, we only need to believe that Christ died for our sins, and through that belief we are (or should be) empowered to strive to live as He lived (the emphasis being on the word "strive).

          • Posted By: epryor @ 11/18/2008 4:46:02 PM

This is not a good explanation. The doublets have to do with who wrote the Bible. When the doublets occur, one of the writers is from Judah south of Isreal. The other is from Isreal in the North. The tribe of Judah and Isreal each had their own versions of Biblical stories. After the Isrealites tried to re-gain their religion the writers tried to blend both stories together seamlessly. The things created, though in the 2 versions are simply not a re-telling and are in conflict with each other. On the other subject, why would
G-d send his son (who is really G-d, so he is sending himself) down to Earth to die when he could just forgive everyone. The Holy Trinity is a man made construct. Any Jewish scholar will tell you that Jesus did not meet the criteria for the Messiah. The Messiah was supposed to be a man, not a demi-god. The very idea that G-d would be in 3 persons is offensive to them and sounds more like somethings Gentiles would do. Why would G-d turn his back on his chosen people? Jewswill all go to Hell (according to christianity) because they would rather die than accept Jesus, G-d's own chosen people.

Everybody have been called the Anti-Christ. I remember conservative Christians and the Millennialist calling Clinton the Anti-Christ. Any president that can speak and not use fear to get his own way is always called the Anti-Christ. Not the Right-Wing preident, they are just called idiots.

  • Posted By: aketzle @ 11/18/2008 4:32:30 PM

I can't believe this is being covered in a way that validates it. It's complete nonsense, and is the stuff of fantasies. How can Newsweek pretend it is something worth giving serious consideration to? You're just fueling the fires of radicalism and hysteria among people on the edge who might not be educated or stable enough to see right through this the way more rational people are. Call this what it is - outright insanity, or an unforgiveable example of people using the fears and anxieties of the less educated against them, since those are the very people Obama will fight for in office.

  • Posted By: epryor @ 11/18/2008 3:48:13 PM

666 as a number in the Illinois lottery sounds like wichcraft to me. Lets just put him on trial in Salem, along with Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne and Tituba. If his body floats, then he's the antichrist, if not, he's human.

  • Posted By: Moish @ 11/18/2008 3:57:25 PM

    Ms Miller and Newsweek:

What are you doing? What kind of 6th century nonsense are you spouting?

And why are you doing this? Do you seek to stir up religious insanity, or do you actually believe this drivel?

I am outraged that a periodical as respected at Newsweek would print this article. My subscription is now cancelled.
