This is the most outrageous piece of garbage I have ever read!! RACIST IDIOTS!! Let me ask you one question. Would all these discussions be taking place if he were white? I definitely don't think so. Just because he is black, it doesn't give you the right to desecrate him. He is so smart. intelligent and wants to bring good and this is all these racist b******s have to say. It is your hell, you burn in it, you spineless nuts!!!!

Are these people serious? To quote Mohandas Gandhi, "I like your Christ, but I don't like your christians, they are not like Christ at all". These people cannot possibly believe that because a Black man takes office that he is the antichrist. I guess they can demonize him by saying that he's the antichrist because they can't say the real reason they hate him. It's OK to say "assinate him" if he is the antichrist. This is an example of the Bible being used to justify hatred. The Antichrist came and died a long time ago, and his name was NERO CAESAR. No one even knows who wrote the Gospels, much less if they really happened. Evengelical Christianity is fast becoming a dangerous, bigoted cult.

Since coming to this great country I have met rednecks, hicks, jews and heathens. I have met more rednecks and hicks at the republican convention and gatherings and speeches than anywhere. They all profess to be christians, own guns, ready to shoot, ready to kill, full of hatred towards blacks and hispanics, and openly resentful of anything foreign. They fill up the pews of the evangelical mega churches to be indoctrinated by hateful exploitative ministers who want to maintain their opulent lifestyle by exploiting the fears of the so called faithful.

I am sorry that you have met people who claim to be christian, but certainly if they are full of hate they are not. You will know a true christian when you meet them, because we are full of Gods love. That does not make us perfect, if we were we would not need Jesus. Jesus proclaimed that to fulfill the commandments we should love God with all our heart , mind and soul, and similarly to love our neighbors as ourselves. You will know a true christian when you meet one, they are kind, loving and trustworthy (We answer to a higher authority on everythng we do and if we are going astray we are convicted by the Holy Spirit). I have concerns as well about the president elect, because of how he misrepresented scripture from the bible and his associations. I have also never heard any nominee ever say "A light will shine upon you, and you will have an epiphany, any you will say that I have to vote for Barack Obama", Barack Obama said this on the campaign trail. I am concerned that people will be fooled and lost as they worry about their pocketbooks and trust in man instead of God to save them. I love people no matter their skin color, religious belif, or culture. I don't know why people beat up true christianity or say they fear christians, the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only one that teaches love, forgiveness, and honesty. I am saddenned by the comments I see here and I guess it is, because the people that feel they are more intelligent than christians have not felt the need to educate themselves by reading the Bible to understand what they are judging. There will always be people that proclaim to be something that they are not, but if you understand the Gospel of Jesus you would not fear a true christian. I did not see anything that represented hatred or an incitation of violence in this article only another perspective of what you should concern yourself to research. True christians are praying for President elect Obama, because that is what our Lord taught us to do(To pray for our leaders and those that govern us) even if they do not hold the same beleifs as us. By the way Christians pray for their enemies as well, because we love everyone as it is commanded.

          Well said.

Well said. I also pray for our leaders--regardless of party. There is a difference between being watchful as we are encouraged to do by our Lord and being judgemental. President -elect Obama deserves our respect and prayers as much as any other President. Time will tell what type of leader he will become.

Conservative christians really are the epitomy of stupidity....but I am not surprised considering these are the same people who believe the world is less than 7000 years old and that the fossil record was put here by Satan to cause confusion and doubt.

"Strandberg says Obama probably isn't the Antichrist, but he's watching the president-elect carefully." Probably? As in, possibly, maybe, perhaps, let's watch? Dear Newsweek, once again your New York sensability does not play well beyond your borders. Sure all this Anti-Christ looks silly to you, and you think that a site called Raptureready would look silly to the rest of the world as well. It does not. This is bad writing, worse editing, and extremely poor decision making on the part of the editors. Now my son and I (who is going to major in Journalism in college) are going to have a long talk on all the reasons why an article like this is wrong. One of which is: interview a real religious scholar, not an internet nut case looking to make tons of money on his ad spaces. Lot's more money this week thanks to Newsweek.

And,to those Christians who really are rapture ready and fearful of the Anti-Christ:: Shouldn't you be thrilled? Shoudn't you be sewing up your white ascension robes? Isn't this what you have always wanted and prayed for, the return of Christ? Shouldn't you be welcoming an Anti-Christ with open arms? Or, hmm, perhaps you are worried that you are not really that rapture ready.

Why give these religious wackos and right-wing hate-mongers credibility by discussing the merits of their argument?
How would you feel if TIME published an article titled, "Is John McCain a Nazi wannabe?" or "Is Sarah Palin a Steaming Pile of Sh*t?".

Is this a joke? Why is this even being published?

Holding a different opinion on abortion from religious conservatives (and Obama holds almost the same position as conservatives on "traditional" marriage, he's for it and against the gays) does NOT mean someone is the Anti-Christ. This article is innappropriate and engages in baseless, ridiculous speculation. It is not suitalbe for serious journalism.

Is this a joke? Why is this ridiculousness being published on the internet?

Believing different things about abortion (and Obama believes almost exactly the same things as religious conservatives on "traditional" marriage) does not make someone the anti-christ. In any case, this is really innappropriate rampant speculation that has no place in serious jounalism.

Well may we say God Save THE QUEEN for nothing will save AMERICA from OBAMA, if he is not the ANTI-CHRIST then why does he have an elaborate 666 in his phone number which is published on his FACEBOOK information page, OH BOY! or should I say Oh! OBAMA,, he claims to be a Christian, then he would have known the signifigance of the 666 numbers,, it is too obvious to be an oversight to display such a number for the world to see especially if you are running for President of the United States of AMERICA...

Please have someone from your news team ask him directly to explain!!!!! before he is officially sworn in, there may be enough time to disqualify this sweet talking and crooked walking man... just remember when he initially introduced Joe Bidden as his running mate, he clearly said with a loud voice.. I INTRODUCE TO YOU THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA, then he went on to say with out "flinching" I introduce to you the next VICE PR... etc.. what a self fulfilling prophecy that may turn out to be!! well we shall SEE!!!...
God protect America!! and the World from the BEAST!! who ever he may be!!!......

In "24" all disasters start with black liberal President. Here we have Obama. Do we have Jack?

  • Posted By: Randinho @ 11/17/2008 9:27:30 PM

Ronald (6 letters) Wilson (6 letters) Reagan (6 letters). Reagan=666. Wingnuts in glass houses shouldn't throw stones . . .

Hi everyone....This is Lucifer. I would just like to set the record straight. Barry is not my son. First of all he lacks the physical attributes, lets face it he is sort of spindely and whimpy. Secondly while I'll admit he talks a good game, he really hasn't done anything to merit such high regard. So quit insulting me, and remember I'll be watching!!

    Very nice Newsweek parody site.

  • Posted By: neverpostingagain @ 11/17/2008 8:56:31 PM

How pathetically ignorant. Is this really the best you can do for a religion writer? Shouldn't a Newsweek columnist have read at least something on a topic before writing a column? It wasn't "666", it was "616" and it probably referred to Nero , maybe to Domitian. But it wasn't talking about the future. Read _a_ book, please. At least one.

  • Posted By: CapeIsland @ 11/17/2008 8:56:05 PM

Perhaps Newsweek should write an article to counteract the Nov. 15th, 08 article by Lisa Miller.....Barack Obama is a "Man Of Spirit". His mission is to bring this nation to a new level of Consciousness, to assist mankind to evolve from a place of Fear to a place of Peace and Love!!!....Time for mankind to realize that only "Love Can Heal the World"!!

This article is appallingly irresponsible, a disgrace for Newsweek and an insult to its readers.

  • Posted By: LouiseManila @ 11/17/2008 8:14:51 PM

Hey Newsweek, didn't you just publish an article saying that Obama's election has spurred a rash of hate, uh "misdeeds" and even hate crimes? This is a potentially dangerous piece of trash that should not have been printed in the first place. Please choose sensiblity over sensationalism next time.

  • Posted By: ajennings @ 11/17/2008 8:07:06 PM

Let's just hope some "wacko" doesn't read your article and feel he is doing us all a favor by "taking care" of the Anti-Christ. Limbaugh, Dobson and the KKK are enough. This article simply fuels hate and ignorance. surely that wasn't your point?????

  • Posted By: kimoco88 @ 11/17/2008 7:56:27 PM

You have got to be kidding....the threats to our next president are already bad enough, why rile up the right wingers who are actually HOPING for the end of the world?

This is a disgrace to Newsweek.
