Please delete this article. Please? This is awful!

Really?? Seriously?!? Is this a bad joke?

I would probably have just dismissed this article with a roll of my eyes if it weren't for the fact you are also running an article discussing the rash of race-related hate crimes that followed President-Elect Obama's victory on 11/4. Where do you think the bigots and racists get the justification for their actions??

It's a shame that a news magazine that I used to respect (until I read this article) chose to run with this. Shame on you!

Again, it is very true. As some commenters already wrote, this slander by Lisa Miller is offensive and insulting to the average reader.

Jon Meacham owes the public an explanation. Lisa Miller should be suspended.

There is a lot of garbage "out there." I certainly expect to find any at Newsweek. What a sad surprise.

I am appalled and deeply offended by this article. This is not in keeping with the Newsweek I grew up reading, and this damages its credibility. I expect from Newsweek balanced, thought provoking, factual articles on topics that are relevant. This article is not balanced, thought provoking, or relevant. Worse, for those Americans who are gullible enough to be swayed by this article, it could damage their ability to get behind our new President elect.

Based on the Rapture Index, Lisa Miller is soon to be transported directly to heaven, and journalism here on Earth will be significantly better for it.

Is this supposed to be some sort of joke? It seems the height of irresponsibility to fire up the loonies with such an article.

I wish I subscribed to Newsweek so I could cancel my subscription over this article. This is an embarrassment to Newsweek and should be to any thinking person. Total loss of credibility.

For a humorous article, this one falls short. You should at least have brought up some of the craziness about people thinking Ronald Reagan was an antichrist of sorts (there were many more parallels with him). I understand that Newsweek should occasionally post a humorous article, one can't trust a news organization without a sense of humor. But those articles should be well written.

  • Posted By: Kryss10 @ 11/17/2008 7:01:39 PM

This is the most deplorable "article", and I use that word loosely, that I've ever seen a so-called respectable publication support. How dare you. I will be cancelling my subscription unless Ms. Miller, the irresponsible idiot, is let go. May God protect our president-elect. He'll certainly need it with morons such as Ms. Miller spewing her garbage and publications like Newsweek supporting it. Shame on you!

This is Newsweek? You people are kidding, right? What's next, a discussion on the merits of phrenology?

I guess Newsweek has given up on being a serious news organization.

    Dear Lisa Miller,

I do hereby nominate you to be arrested and tried for treason. At a minimum, you should be fired from this formerly respectable news organization. Might I suggest a gig at the National Enquirer, where you could do a follow-up article on whether or not Obama is a space alien sent to Earth from the planet DarkWanToo.

You really should be fired for this deplorable garbage, and so should your editor.

For a minute I thought I was reading the Onion.
This is beyond ridiculous for Newsweek to report this as if it's a story.
The people who believe this are nuts.

Is Obama the Messiah? No. Is he the AntiChrist? No. He is a man, and only a man. By the way, for all of the religious doomsayers out there, Jesus Himself said that only God knows the appointed time when the end will come. So be watchful, but drop the paranoia. Besides, it was the religious conservatives of Jesus' time (i.e. the Pharisees) that had Him falsely accused and then crucified.

    • Posted By: ChristianGal @ 11/17/2008 6:16:29 PM

I agree with you on everything except one thing. It was always God's intention that Christ be crucified. No man or organization would have had the power to crucify Jesus (who is God) without God's approval.

We are told to watch for Jesus' return. Who the AC is does not matter to Christians at all!

  • Posted By: A sane Texan @ 11/17/2008 6:15:36 PM

This is risible. Perhaps we should follow comparisons of Obama to prophecies of Nostradamus. This is another example of Newsweek's bizarre deference to crazy people as long as they are crazy for Jesus.

    Why is this even newsworthy?

  • Posted By: Young Hickory @ 11/17/2008 6:07:19 PM

Jesus Christ said that no one knows when he will return. Therefore, if anyone claims to know about the end times then they are against the teachings of Jesus, i.e. anti-Christ. These people who claim Obama is the antichrist are in fact damning themselves.

  • Posted By: northcarolinawentblue @ 11/17/2008 6:05:27 PM

Um, seriously? It's one thing to address concerns that conservatives have about Obama, about his tax policy, positions on gun control, his health care plan, etc. It's another thing to engage in gossipy hysterical fearmongering. This is not journalism, and I will not be renewing my subscription to Newsweek, which expires next month.

  • Posted By: bantam @ 11/17/2008 6:04:48 PM

I certainly expect a retraction and apology from Lisa Miller.

I also expect Jon Meacham's opinion and apology too (yeah, right).

  • Posted By: Chapalody @ 11/17/2008 6:02:46 PM

For those who believe that Obama is the Antichrist, then you need to reexamine you state of mind and strengthen you will against those who easily influence you way of thinking. It's easy to be misled. A well spoken person can make you follow them anywhere and do everything they ask of you. If you are so quick to believe because you want to see Bible events come during your lifetime, then it's you who are more dangerous then Obama is being President. Everyone wants to be a Prophet. Even a false one

  • Posted By: monkeybug @ 11/17/2008 6:02:11 PM

If Obama is assassinated, Lisa Miller and Newsweek will be among those I blame. What she has done is take an extremist opinion and validate it--by putting it forth as a question. Here's some fun for all of us: Who can even guess Lisa Miller's next topic? My guess: "Does the Bible say blacks are inferior to whites and would be happier as slaves?"
