This type of trash should be printed in a tract and handed out door-to-door by fresh-faced closeted homesexuals wearing ties or loud-mouthed drooling-types with bad hygiene on street corners.

Either way, John Meacham and the rest of his team, liberal, conservative, stupid or ignorant should all be ashamed of themselves for regarding this as resposible, thoughtful or necessary "journalism". I will see to it that Newsweak never makes it into my home again.

    too right for you huh!

  • Posted By: leftypower @ 11/17/2008 5:57:08 PM

I will never read Newsweek again after publishing this trash. Why isn't this printed in a tract and handed out on a street corner by some freak with poor hygiene?

Is this article really going to be published "as is" in Newsweek? I find that really hard to believe, since I thought that Newsweek was a reputable source of information. I cannot even figure out if this is an opinion piece or it is supposed to be an actual article? If the latter, where is the critical journalism?

Well, "people like you" (tothetruth) was in charge of the country for the last 8 years. God fearing people, that is.

2 wars later, with 4500 dead, 26.000 wounded, 3 trillion debt and the economy in ruins, I'd say that was a pretty evil result, perhaps part of an evil plan.

I propose you read the Bible, the portions related to stupid-incompetents who "believe" in God.

When you are an imbecile, you of course think as an imbecile. Stupid is...is what stupid does!

  • Posted By: triplethreat23 @ 11/17/2008 5:33:43 PM

Even the National Enquirer wouldn't publish this crap. Let's all say a big goodbye to Newsweek as is reduces itself to a featureless gray speck on the ash heap of journalistic history.

Wow, it's a good thing people like you (AguilarJ) arn't in charge of our country today. You are full of hatred and discriminatory towards "religious" people. You claim people like this should be terminated from their jobs, wow arn't you a level headed and unbiased and respecting person. Geez.

Only God really knows Obama's heart, but soon we will find out what he's really made of, as his
actions and deeds will show what he's made of. Satan is a deceiver, and he's been at it for a long time... he's also referred to as an angel of light..

Lisa Miller, this is the most disgusting form of journalism that I have ever seen--and have come to expect from religious freaks today. You need to be fired, and everyone around you needs to be terminated permanently. You know, in Biblical times, they used to stone people for idiocy like this.

The Rapture is the concept Jesus spoke of when He said that when He came two would be working in a field one would be taken..the other left behind. There have been two distinct events of God's wrath that He used to point out as examples of the rapture ....the first being the Flood and the 2nd is Sodom an Gomorah...both times God warned then removed the one's who listened

Your all a bunch of Racists!!! LOL!! I'm white but I figure if since everyone is using it as an excuse for everything I might as well join in!!

My first thought on hearing about this article was that it had to be a hoax. There's no way, I thought to myself, that a respectable publication would print such a scurrilous piece of trash. It had to be a joke, perhaps an Onion article that some gullible soul had taken seriously.

I'm horrified to find that I was wrong. How on earth could something like this make it past the editor's desk? Has newsweek.com been hacked? Has Ms. Miller gone insane? This is evil, stupidly evil, and quite possibly treasonous.

For the love of God, I hope that a retraction and apology soon appear.

I am not a fan of the President elect but I have read the Bible and I think that if we are to level with one another here the idea of labeling Mr. Obama the Anti-Christ is a bit irrational when one looks at the premise from which such an assertion is made. You mean to argue that advocating for liberal views like abortion and gay rights makes him more evil than those before him who have killed in the name of prosperity and advocated, or at least left unopposed, some of the most evil of history's realities such as slavery and racism? As for the sweet talk; Mr Obama is not the only best orator in the history of the US presidency. And I am sure there probably were some more wierd coincidences that would have matched some of the more potent signals in the Anti-Christ furor during the previous presidents' times as well - we probably just weren't looking.

Mr Obama so far has not demonstrated anything akin to working towards making a case for "enslavement of mankind". If anything, he might be among the few American presidents whose outlook on things works the converse of that assertion. I think those even contemplating that absurd claim are very misguided indeed. Take a history book and read a page or two. Even the very bible that is being used to back that up should offer you some enlightenment on issues. This is surely no era for bigotry ; learn to reason - correctly!

Historically...Noah preached a hundred years that there would come a catastrophic event that would destroy the whole world and people mocked UNTIL it started to rain! The bible and specifically Jesus warned there would come an END of this age and gave specific events to look for as heralding His Coming for First His Believers and 2ndly in His Wrath.

I'm entirely appalled by the way this article is written. Ms. Miller, your uncritical linking of Obama with the anti-Christ is irresponsible at best. One could, with very little effort, see an agenda of fostering anti-Obama sentiment amongst the mouth-frothing, racist, un-Biblically superstitious segment of the religious right.

It isn't news that there are people who are eagerly awaiting the return of Christ; there have been people expecting the second coming of Christ since shortly after he came back (allegedly, at least) the first time. Do I really need to point out that it hasn't happened yet, despite the fervent beliefs of long generations of people who lived hundreds of years ago that Christ was going to return within their lifetimes? Do I need to point out that they, too, saw all the "signs" of Christ's imminent return in the events of their times? Christ is always on the verge of returning, and has always been on the verge of returning, at least according to some segments of the Christian population for the last 2,000 years (more or less).

But it isn't your uncritical reporting of the beliefs of certain current Christians that appalls me. What appalls me is your apparent lack of understanding that, in this generation of rapture-believers (and the Rapture is a very non-Biblical concept, by the way) more than a few of these people are entirely willing to give G*d a hand with weeding out evil as they perceive it. Perhaps you remember Sarah Palin's campaign rallies, where people were recorded as shouting that Obama ought to be killed? Perhaps you are aware that the Secret Sevice linked the increase of death threats to Senator Obama with Governor Palin's race-baiting demogoguery? I would think that, as a rational person, assassination threats to the President-elect would lead you to take a bit more care in how you presented an incident that is liable to feed an already frenzied portion of the population.

Please, 1/3rd of conservative christians who are delusional: move to Alaska, and get the movement to succeed from the Union going, full steam ahead! Sarah and Todd will lead you. You can have a theocracy there and prepare for end times, while the rest of us recover from eight years of anti-intellectualism and progress into the 21st century. Hah, I can't believe I read this article at Newsweek.

Lisa Miller's article deals with a real phenomenon, but it does so irresponsibly. The story is not that Barak Obama may be the Antichrist -- that's an implausible story that is laughable and horribly irresponsible to suggest. The story is the backlack to Obama's election by the intolerant (the surge of post-election racial hate incidents) and the religiously misguided. It is a shame that Miller's article was written so poorly, so unevenly, and with little regard to civic responsibility. Threatening the life of the U.S. President is a Federal crime, by the way.

To those who practice your religious faith of choice -- please STOP using the Bible as a weapon of hate! The Bible, the Koran, the Torah -- these are not weapons. If we all are children of God, then we should not be killing or hating our brothers and sisters. This type of hatred is fear and insecurity turned outwards to spare oneself of your self-doubt. Enlightenment is found by exploring the divinity within; it is produced through your good works and compassion. Religious faith can be a beautiful source for this divinity. It is ruined by those who seek to use it as the point of a spear in which to control people's lives. That is not enlightenment, and it is not divine; it is foul motivation using the divine as a shield, and it is shameful.

Yes he is. And Newsweek is the National Enquirer.
