The is blatantly irresponsible, incendiary and inappropriate journalism. In fact, it's a wide stretch to even call it journalism.

Raised as a Christian, it is EXACTLY this type of fear-based, wild-eyed dogmatic crap that turned me into an agnostic. This article is actually a perfect example of what's wrong with the modern church: instead of representing the positive messages of the Bible and Christ, you instead focus on the most-divisive, evil, literal interpretations of a book that's been translated too many times to be taken seriously.

You purport to represent love, when all you do is offer fear and hate, ESPECIALLY of anyone considered "different" (Obama, homosexuals, Muslims, etc.).

If you were aiming to make Christianity look foolish, and to make the willfully ignorant even more scared, then bravo, Lisa. Mission accomplished!

Wow you sound like the media of today reports nothing but positive things going on in the world. You don't have to be Christian to know that the end is coming. Luckily for me, I do believe in Christ and that is something positive for me to look forward to. I just feel sorry for you and other nonbelievers that will not get to know him and meet your creator! I will pray for your lost soul!

Don't feel sorry for us bd. The reality is we feel sorry for all the mouth breathing morons such as yourself that adhere to a book of poorly written fairy tales created by people (yup that's people, no higher being involved at all) who had no clue how reality worked. The fact that twits like you and your ilk continue to spew your trash in this day and age only speaks to your lack of intelligence. Those of you who can't understand that none of what you believe in has any factual basis are just as bad as the muslim fundamentalists that rant about their beliefs. With any luck you're ignorance will be edited from the human race in a few more generations.

So much hate in your statements. It almost reminds me of that dictator in Iran that wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth! Are you related to him?

  • Posted By: josebach @ 11/17/2008 12:58:45 PM

    What's wrong with saying "I don't know"?

Is it not the only honest answer? Why do humans of every culture feel the need to adopt ancient beliefs to answer unanswerable question?

There's a reason why people struggle with their beliefs. If something was really true, you wouldn't have to be told 400+ times to have faith. (Which is how many times the bible mentions the word faith)

    What happens when we die?

The only honest answer anybody can answer is "I don't know". If there is a God, I think he would appreciate honesty.

    Dear Ms. Miller:

The fact that white reactionaries think that a black president is the end of the world is right up there with "dog nites man" in newsworthiness. Cedrtainly when you found yourself quoting Victoria Miller in your lede graph, it really should have occurred to you that this story was a waste of the time you took to write it and we took to read it. Why not an article on those who think that Obama is a hologram or a robot or the reincarnation of Betty Grable? There might have been a justification for this item if Newsweek had a Mental Illness section and had chosen to run it there. Putting it in the Belief Watch section is an insult to serious religiosity as opposed to bigotry in the fancy dress of belief.

So well put Richter. I'm with you fully on this one.

My apologies for the double accidental posting of this comment -- I'm new to this forum.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken us? We are plagued with fools and Pharisees who speak Your words, but with the tongue of Satan.

Does anyone have Keith Olberman's e-mail address?
This qualifies Lisa Miller, and Newsweek for the 'Worst Persons' segment for sure.

    Dear Newsweek:

Thanks for the entertainment. This article and the comments are the funniest thing I've read in a while. The Onion has nothing on this one. I suppose I could be concerned about the general level of intelligence in a large segment of the population that is implied by this column, but I prefer instead to enjoy the entertainment value.

  • Posted By: josebach @ 11/17/2008 12:42:27 PM

Do you know why it's so hard for people to break free of the mental bondage of religion?

Because they want it to be true. It's pretty much that simple.

Study the origin of the Bible from the secular perspective... study all of the savior figures that predate Jesus... like Horus and Krishna... why do only two of the four gospels have Jesus being born of a virgin? Why are there other gospels not chosen by the church to be in the Bible that show Christ bearing children? Anybody that is a sholar of history and truly looks at the history of Christianity objectively will not be a Christian for long... which is exactly why so many religion majors are agnostic or atheist.

The question I have is the damage religion is causing to the world offset by the benefits that faith offers people? That is the moral question I face when deciding whether or not to talk to people about religion.

If you read the bible he doesn't fit the profile. Besides, not all of the signs of his coming have been fulfilled yet.

I have a question for all you Obama supporters...what do you think of a person who would sit under the teaching and preaching of Jeremiah Wright for 20 years. Do you think the statments he (Wright) made that caused Obama to leave his Church were the first he had made / preached like that...You have elected a man who thinks just like Wright reguardless of what he (Obama) says...A Lepoard does not / can not change its spots...

    • Posted By: Freethinker1944 @ 11/17/2008 12:24:32 PM

Please Rocket2525, don't confuse yourself with any facts. They'll only confuse you. Critical thinking invovles studying the facts as given and then arriving at a conclusion which incorporates all the facts. Since your mind is already made up concerning Obama's character, please don't listen to anything that comes out of his mouth.

    • Posted By: tsunamiwave7 @ 11/17/2008 11:42:13 AM

So are you saying that you share the same beliefs as every single person with whom you associate yourself? It is possible, and I know this is a crazy huge stretch of the imagination, for Obama to have listened to the reverend's speeches without ascribing to every single view he holds. Oh, and if a "Lepoard" does not change its spots, then why would one vote for Bush (a well-known former alcoholic and womanizer) or McCain (cheated on his first wife, crashed five planes, one while intoxicated, etc.)? They clearly do not show the moral fiber needed for the presidency.

Which of Wright's comments have you so upset?

We are already having an impact
We're proud to report that the respected world magazine Newsweek has picked up our concerns and written the article "Is Obama the Antichrist?" for their latest issue.
They have already learned an important lesson: when accusing someone of being the instigator of the Apocalypse, use questions instead of statements. All you need do is put the thought in discerning people's minds--they're smart enough to begin worrying about it all on their own without the potentially litigious use of statements like "________ is the Antichrist."

Bravo to Newsweek for taking the difficult but correct stance of using their magazine to raise such important questions about our world leaders. We appreciate their supportive effort to our cause and we will continue on with our goal of exposing potential Antichrists right here, on www.r-u-antichrist.blogspot.com.

    Tell your friends.

Is Lisa Miller a complete ignoramus? Or is she the spawn of Satan?

You know what? This country just elected the smartest and most talented person available to lead it after many years of Government-By-Idiocy that has nearly bankrupted us and has led us into so much violence that I won't even begin here.

How is it that Lisa Miller even has a job? This is one of the most irresponsible pieces of s*** "journalism" that I have ever read. Shame on you, Newsweek. And shame on you, Lisa Miller.

You want to know who Barack Obama is? He is a good and decent family man, a dedicated public servant, and a person who has, just been elected President of the United States of America. Hopefully, he can help us to recover from the disaster that "journalists" such as yourself have helped to create. Eff you, Lisa Miller. You are a disgrace to your profession. I cannot believe you even have a career. I cannot believe that anyone even gives you a platform to speak your BS. Shame on you, and shame on Newsweek.

I can't believe you printed this crap. Dominionists have been trying to prove that one world leader or another (including the Pope) is the Antichrist for four generations now. It isn't worth the waste of pixels or ink to repeat these canards.

First, Clinton was the antichrist: http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=8270

Then, Bush was the antichrist: http://www.covenantnews.com/baldwin020412.htm

Odd, that only with Obama entering the office does this sort of insanity get the "some say" treatment from the traditional media. Everyone who works at Newsweek should be ashamed of this article.

To all you people out there who think Obama is the antichrist, I happen to know he is not. He is actually a space alien from the planet Ork, sent here to lower Earth's defenses. I know some of you thing i am crazy, but I am not, as lots of people believe in space aliens. This may be my last transmission, as "they" are after me. Oh my God!, they've found me! ahhhhhhhhhhh
