Right on, Freethinker! Alas, so many conservative evangelicals are clueless at practicing critical and analytical thought processes. I'm 59 years old and can't believe what is happening with this country and how people are so caught up into back-age ways of thinking. Sounds like the Spanish Inquisition and Salem, Mass. are about to sprout all over again. You'd think that in 2008, people would be a little more spiritually matured. Sounds to me that there's a bunch of sore losers out there because their party did not win. and they are going to do everything possible to make the Obama presidency more difficult than it's already going to be.
I choose for my Christian faith to portray hope instead of fear.

I can't believe even a magazine like Newsweek will give credence to this kind of nonsense. All you believers in the Anti-Christ, knock your empty heads ten times people!

When John finished writing the book of revelation he said at the end of his book, "So be it. Come Lord Jesus!". But for those who believe that Obama is the Antichrist, well the burden of proof lies on them. They should present to the world thier whole interpretation of Revelation 13 of the Bible with conviction in order not to mislead many people. But beware. Wrong interpretation of the Bible is as distructive as Antichrist himself.

I am not a religious person but was raised an Episcopal and was told that the apocalypse was dangerous territory on theological grounds. I gather at some point there was this huge apocalyptic movement in Britain that almost brought the country down. All these preachers who preach the apocalypse are irresponsible if not downright evil. The apocalypse is theological crack.

Those of you who think in these terms are using a literature of a prescientific, basically illiterate band of nomads who believed that the earth was flat, snakes could talk, and that the dieties romed the earth and impregnated our daughters. One third of all the evangelicals believe that the "annointed one" will return in their lifetime shows how unthinking these people are. If you read the literature, you'll find that Peter and Paul--two of the icons who are most responsible for this insanity--also believed that "He" would return before most of those first century believers died. There is one truth that stands out above all the rest and that is the fact that every single person who has ever predicted the date of "the end"--including Peter and Paul--have been wrong! It would all be quite humorous except I'm quite worried about the actions that these people can take. I'm hoping rational thought might prevail. Critical thinking is what is needed in these tough times, not a reliance on the old superstitions that have caused so much suffering in this world.

Just what "product" was Obama selling-- and how was what McCain was selling any better? The whole campaign was all about Obama talking about what he wanted to do on the issues as president, and republicans saying how evil democrats are. At least Obama took a stance on the issues, while McCain just scoffed at Obama.. Obama sold substance, while McCain just (badly) tried to sell hot air.

Regardless, the whole antichrist argument is a moot point. It's a device that's been used by the religious right so much that it's finally lost all impact and meaning. And personally, I am not going to read the Bible again. I've read it, and seen the words twisted over and over by fundamentalists who seem to think the tome is a tool to bludgeon others into submission with. After decades of seeing this happen, I've lost my belief in organised religion completely, and, in fact, see it as more of a danger to society than a boon.

Of course, I don't know why I am responding to you, considering your whole argument against me is based on a typo. But that's typical of people who know their argument is substantially thin.

Those who know nothing about Bible prophecy, Christianity, Christians, Jesus Christ, the End Times, the Rapture, Life or Reality really shouldn't be talking about them in public! I find it tragically funny that those who discus things they know nothing about are laughing outloud at all! It is very sad that people not only laugh at their own ignorance and stupidity, but wallow in it as well! To those of you who "think" there will be such an event as the Rapture need to go back and re-read history - starting with Francisco Ribera, the Council of Trent (1563), Ignatius Loyola, Jesuit Futurism, the Roman Catholic's Counter-Reformation, John Nelson Darby, Protestant Historicism, Martin Luther, the Protestant Reformation, Cyrus Scofield, Tim LaHaye and several others I could name! So, people who really don't know what they're talking about really shouldn't be talking - about anything! Grow up and get a life - and look past the end of your own nose! Enough said!

How hypocritical some of you fear mongering Christians are! I'm a very spiritual person and know the Bible well, and I know if Jesus were to walk among us in these present times, he'd denounce you all as modern-day scribes and Pharisees like he did those in his time. Read your Bible again, for supposedly when he returns, he will say "I know you not!" He also pointed out that the "first shall be last" to enter the kingdom....

My God, you just had a president in office for 8 years who is responsible for lying us into a needless war that has not only brought death to thousands of our soldiers, but to tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children! You've sold your souls accepting the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war as being the thing to do whenever we feel a country may be a threat to us somewhere down the road. Give me one verse in your version of the Bible where Jesus condones war over peace! Just one!!! You've turned "do unto others as you would want them to do unto you" into "do to them first before they get the chance to do it unto me!" Hypocrites! You want to know what the anti-Christ is? It isn't just one individual, but a massive fearful, ignorant, erroneus and dangerous philosophy that people fall for, which takes them from their spiritual sensibility. Congrats people who have fallen into this category! What idiots and hypocrites you are for spreading such hatred and fear. Don't think for a moment that Christ is proud of you now. All through history, mankind has always managed to kill anyone who was good and could do mankind any good. Insane and rampant fear always destroys the good -hearted. So keep up your rants of suspicion, fear, hate, and if should Obama be assasinated, you will have his blood on your hands! And if he is assassinated, then it will dawn on you that he wasn't the Christ afterall, and you will be responsible for bringing that mass delusion into reality because of your present day ranting. For God's sake, the man hasn't even been inaugurated yet, and you aren't willing to even give him a chance to prove you had nothing to fear. Where is your acceptance of Jesus' teaching of having faith in God, and loving each other instead of "bearing false witness against your neighbor?" You should be praying that God will give the new president wisdom and a spiritual insight to lead this country out of the mess we are presently in, as well as pray for peace in the world instead of all this insane hatred. And if you truly believe yourself such good Christians, you should have more faith and not fear of the so-called end times if you are so sure you will be "raptured up" and taken into heaven. I'm afraid there will be many of you hearing, "I know you not" and will find yourselves left behind!

While I believe that Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress will bankrupt this country and our children's future with their proposed policies, this is way over the top. The far right is just outright scary. Yes, I believe that both parties are corrupt but both extremes scare the heck out of me. I could care less what the ideology is, the color of skin, the sex or the sexual orientation of our president is, I do care that they understand that a Liberal or Conservative approach won't work and President-elect Obama and his cronies in Congress, like the previous Administration, just doesn't understand the complexities and are too willing to reward their special interest groups of their party.

Given the Global integrated economy, we need people that don???t bring an ideological agenda to office and I didn???t support either candidate but the country has spoken and, at the end of the day, no matter whether the person is left or right, our country is headed towards revolution not because of ideology but because both parties have failed us and future generations but there is no call for this type of hatred be it left or right.

People are to accepting of fear inciting literature. I encourage for every person who reads this article and has any objection or dismissal of this ???injected thought??? read the Bible for yourself and draw your own interpretation. For me, I have an open mind and at least take the thought provoking points as a sign as to how easy Americans can be miss lead. Are we any freer then when the declaration of independence was written; no. Actually you can argue that because of interpretation of laws; we have loss our freedoms since that time. It is my understanding from Obama's lectures and campaign slogans he is going to ???spread the wealth??? And I ask at who's expense? Freedom is not free; everything comes at a some sort of cost. History does repeat itself; maybe America has come to end of the road? Most great empires expire at around 200-400 year mark. Just ask the Greek's,the Roman's and the Mohr's. But where America has a chance to succeed where other civilizations failed is in its belief of basic freedoms. When these basic freedoms are stripped that's when the lines blur; between that of good and evil.

Everything has been going one direction for a while so it is easy for someone to suggest another direction and gain support. Right now the American people are as weak minded as we ever been because of lack of "faith." believe what you want, its your decision. But so many people have so many questions unanswered that Obama apparently has the answer for? The reason for this article and the responses(comments) only validate my belief that America has a lack of direction. Its sad it took a puppet (insert anyone promising change) to magically make things all better. I don't believe the Antichrist will reveal himself outwardly; but behind the mask of deception. The bible at one time was the most dangerous books in the world; back in the days if you possessed a bible you were jailed or killed. What do people think of the Illuminati? Does Obama fit that mold? I encourage people to gather information on December 26, 2012. Many of the "pole shifts" and other predications already happened and will not create the end of the world scenario publicized. Any view can be contorted to fit a prediction or mold of the Apocalypse; because most of the predications are open to interpretation which feed into insecurities. American insecurities are at an all time high which is only making Obama look that more appealing or vile; how ever you want to look at him. To ignore the fact the most Americans no longer stand up for their beliefs because of the fear of persecution and ridicule is sad and can be seen in most angles in American culture. I encourage people to gather the facts and make educated decisions based on the facts', not the babel of journalists and others trying to miss lead. But the sad point is that most people would rather google their belief versus figure it out on their own through research. People are too busy to find the truth now a days; which makes people turn into cattle.
